For all things Admech.
Talk about your lists or just the fluff you have for your army.
Post your models.
Anticipate the new codex.
Lament that Kastelans are sold out.
Kill Guilliman with two turns of firing.

Hi everyone again
How are your augmentations going?

>being a cutfag

>Not replacing fleshy bits with holy steel

Whirring excitedly as I anticipate my game this afternoon, I'm going to try out Stygies VIII with a ton of electropriests and Dragoons against my brother's IG.

I just wish I could paint well enough to do the skitarii and tech priest models justice.

Good luck! Which kind of IG does he have?

Same here. Although I have improved, I'm not a great painter. I'm finishing my Dunecrawler, will post when finished

Gimme some good mechanicus novels bois

Why does this need a thread again? What next? A MTG thread about the colour blue?

Because the Admech is the best faction, and we cogboiis need a place to speak.binary and plan stratagies.

...

i'm putting together a lucian force of admech, here my (index) 1000pts list :
1 magos
2x5 rangers with two transuranic arquebuse, and omnispex
3x10 vanguards with one plasma, one electrorifle
2 dragoons with taser lance and phospho serpenta
one onager with neutron ray of doom

i'm wondering what i should buy next to reach 1500pts, i was thinking about plasma kataphron, any adices ?

I'd sugest giving the Vanguards 2 Plasmas. They sinergize better with them, and maybe take a squad of Rangers with the Arc Rifle. For the 1500 points buy a box of Kastelans, and maybe Katas with plasma, yeah

With the codex out now and stealable, Rangers dropped 2ppm, which means you can swap those two arc rifles out for the superior Plasma Calivers. Should probably buy the stubber on the Dunecrawler too, since it's 5pts for some cheap cleanup dakka.

To get to 1.5k I'd probably buy an Enginseer to make a proper battalion, another Neutronager and probably a Kastelan Maniple w/ Datasmith, which should fit in with a little shuffling.

so the beep boop are unavoidable i see
thanks for the advice, may the omnissiah bless you

Beep Boops are god-like. Take 4 full Phosphor, Protector mode, and Martian mortal wounds thing. Bang

i've pledge allegiance to Lucius, sorry

Now the codex is out, trying to put together a list out of what I own for admech (apart from the enginseer I'd need to buy). Local store usually just plays 1000 points. Playing Stygies VIII, because that's how I painted my dudes in 7th, innit.

Battalion

HQ:
>Techprist dominus (volkite blaster, phosphoenix relic, axe) - 139

>Techpriest enginseer (servo-arm, axe) - 52

Troops:
>10 skitarii vanguard (1 plasma caliver, 2 arc rifles, omnispex) - 119

>10 skitarii rangers (2 arquebus, onmispex) - 137

>3 kataphron breachers (3 heavy arc rifle, 3 arc claw) - 141

Elites:
>5 sicaran ruststalkers (5 transonic blades) - 110

Fast attack:
>2 ironstrider ballestarii (2 twin cognis autocannon) - 150

Heavy support:
>Onager dunecrawler (neutron laser, 2 cognis heavy stubber) - 145

Total: 993/1000

Ruststalkers infiltrate using the stratagem, obviously. I realise I should theoretically find the points for a 3rd arquebus on the rangers, but I'd need to buy a whole new box of skitarii to get the weapon, so to hell with it.

So, yeah. Is this workable? Or should I give up on the idea of using ruststalkers (such lovely models...) and splash out on some dragoons?

Holy shit user, I just realized how you did the gun barrel fists.

Have a rare mechy

Ranking the Forge Worlds I've come up with the following:

The Good:

Mars
Stygies VIII
Lucius

The Decent:
Graia
Metalica

The Bad:
Ryza

The Ugly:
Agrippina

So my challenge is how do we make Agrippina worth taking? Their Dogma is almost entirely useless to the point that they might as well not even have one, their stratagem is expensive and cumbersome, their Relic is useful, but in a narrow set of situations, their Warlord trait is mediocre.

Presumably we take a lot of Kataphron servitors? It looks like Breachers gained the extra attack that Infiltrators lost for some reason, and the heavy arc rifle dropped from a significantly overcosted 18 points to a more reasonable 10.

Are these changes enough to save this unit? Is 47 points for a Breacher with the Arc Claw and Heavy Arc Rifle worth it? Do people even think Heavy Arc Rifle and Arc Claw is the best gear combination for Breachers? It seems to me like they are- their mediocre BS and WS means you want as many shots as you can get out of them- a single shot weapon, as awesome as the strength, damage, and pen are, is unreliable at best with BS 4+. Their Hydraulic Claw also seems like a mediocre choice, by virtue of dropping their WS to a measly 5+.

Aside from taking an enormous amount of servitors, what does Agrippinaa do in order to not just die immediately to a faction that actually has rules that benefit them?

That arm looks super necrony.
Traitor in our midst!

Praise to the Omnissiah for this gift, and blessings upon you for delivering it to us, oh ye worthy servant of the cog.

If Agrippina is taking loads of Kataphrons, they'd want to take some Kastelans as well. The stratagem that gives them both +1 to hit kind of fixes their 'can't hit the broad side of a barn' problem somewhat.

The 'hit with overwatch on a 5+' dogma seems super bad if you're taking kataphrons- they never really have a lot of shots unless you're talking about the Destroyers, and even then, they have Cognis Flamers which have non-synergy. The best overwatch weapon we have is unaffected by the dogma. Talk about a letdown.

I think if you want the dogma to be useful, you'd want maybe one big unit of destroyers equipped with Heavy Grav Cannons and Cognis Flamers. This gear loadout comes to a whopping 75 points per model, so that's a LOT of eggs in one basket. A 6-person unit comes to 450 points, which is a significant investment.

I think one would want a Tech-priest Dominus with the Necromechanic warlord trait. That way, each time they try to heal one of the servitors, they always go up to full health. The Agrippina relic would actually be very helpful when you have grav-cannons firing at vehicles, since they struggle to wound high-toughness models. VS t6 or higher, it actually puts them on par with a weapon of equal strength to the toughness of the model they are firing at.

A unit of 6 puts out 30 shots with the Grav cannons, and in the aura of a Dominus they should hit with 17 or 18 shots. If you can park a unit of Kastelans near them so that you get to use the Elimination Volley Stratagem, that goes up to about 23 hits. Against a t6 or higher vehicle you would with a third of those hits, but with the Agrippina relic they would with slightly more than half.

If this unit fires at a land raider, they are going to wound 11 times after re-rolls from the Agrippina relic, and the land raider will fail 7 of those. This means one can expect about 14 wounds. With the Elimination Volley stratagem, we can expect close to 18 wounds.

jesus christ how horrifying

I think Agrippina might actually be a legitimate reason to run regular servitors. Give them two multi-meltas and you have a unit that puts out the equivalent firepower of two breachers with torsion cannons for 5 points more than one of those would actually cost, and you can recycle them for just one CP. The problem with that strategy is that it's still just a 4 wound unit with T3 and a 4+ save, so if your opponent throws any serious firepower their way, the whole unit just dies and you can't recycle it.

So after everything is said and done, Agrippina brings the ability to take a Deathstar type unit of destroyers and support them rather well. They don't fix any of the mobility problems AdMech have, they try to do what mars does-double down on firepower. The Relic covers up the weakness that Grav-Cannons have- firing at vehcles, and actually makes them, in certain circumstances, able to take out a land raider in one round of shooting.

On overwatch fire, this unit is pretty damn scary. 30 shots with the grav cannons, leading to 10 hits. The Cognis Flamers are what really shine here, though. 6 flamers with 2d6 drop the lowest means 24 flamer hits (I rounded down and took 2d6 drop the lowest as an average of 4).

Looking at these guys being charged by a unit of Khorne Berzerkers- about 6 kills with the grav cannons, and 4 with the flamers. Before any attacks are landed, you're looking at 10 models lost to overwatch fire alone. And that's Khorne Berzerkers, those assholes are T4 and have a 3+ save. Orks or Genestealers have a significantly worse time. They are set to lose as high as 17 models before blows are struck.

The downside of course is that all of this is an astronomically large points investment. Admittedly, if you keep your Dominus safe in this nest of servitors, they can keep repairing them, and should you need to hit the emergency button and blow the Agrippina stratagem to reset a badly damaged unit of servitors to full strength, you can do that. If you put all your eggs in one basket, it is a very hard basket Your opponent needs to chew through 18 t5 4+/6++ wounds in one go in order to remove the unit for good.

It seems like Agrippina is like Mars, just with a much more narrow focus. Both of them specialize in setting up a gunline, and throwing out an absurd amount of firepower. The difference is that while Mars amps up the damage to primarch-killing potential, Agrippina amps up the durability.

Well, I suppose the most optimal way to play them is quite literally flood the field with as many of the bots as possible; from my list building, you can fit in about 9 Breachers, 9 Destroyers, 3 Engiseers, a Dominus and than you can give your Destroyers Grav or add in a Neutron Onager for just under 1500 points. Running them in two seperate Battalions gives us 6 CP, than adding the 3 for Battleforged army. That puts us at 9 CP total, letting us revive up to 4 squads of kataphrons, and having a left over CP.for what ever we need.

Warlord and relic wise, I imagine that the you'll either pick the CP refund if your running him in the back woth destroyers, or the reroll 1's to hit for your breachers. For the relic, Raiments of Technomatyr helps us out the most.

Basically, the plan is to throw wave after wave of T5 units down the field at your opponent with Breachers leading the charge, and Destroyers mopping up the rest. Funny enough, this list can really chew up SM's from the look of it. Plus, if we're lucky with our WL trait, we'll be bringing back up to 5 Units od Kataphrons, which isn't so bad.

What's the best way to do kastelan spam?

I think heavy bolters is where you want to look for regular servitors. Their accuracy is garbage, so they need as many shots as they can get. Heavy bolters are also a pretty cheap option. Each model with a bolter is only 12 points.

Their gear configuration is pretty trash, though. You are forced to take servo arms on half of them, which are an expensive and cumbersome close combat weapon that isn't really worth it in the end.

I would rather have those points go somewhere more useful, maybe a unit of vanguard or rangers?

Right, I forgot you actually had to pay for the servo-arms on the 2 guys that didn't get shooting weapons. Scratch that, servitors still suck.

I would actually say that you don't want to flood the field with servitors. Agrippina can't support that many with their stratagem, and I'm seeing a trend of AdMech units sucking up stratagems to do the heavy lifting.

I would run a single unit of servitors, but I would make it big- at least 6. You want a unit of Kastelans, because that sets up the Elimination Volley stratagem. 18 wounds in one shooting phase to a t8 model with a 2+ save is scary as hell.

I'd also want smaller units to take the pressure off. I've maligned infiltrators in the previous thread, but this seems like a good use for them. Also cheaper infantry like vanguard or rangers seem pretty solid here. You'll need bodies because you're obligated to take two expensive units in addition to your expensive HQ.

3 shooty 3 smacky w/ deep strike so you can suplex girlyman

Eh, I still think that your probably better off just flooding the field with the bastards, and relying on the weight of fire, rather than the actual accuracy. Going with my strategy, you'll get 54 T5 wounds, on either 3+ or 4+ saves, and than an additonal 45 wounds from the Recylcling. Thats an absurd amount of units wounds chew through, all the while they are flinging crap tons of decent Str shots at the enemy.

Kataphrons, from what I can tell, really don't get anything from stratagems, aside from the Kastellan one. But than, by bringing Kastellans, your loosing the second Detachment, making the whole list moot, and than taking away the extra CP you get from the battalion.

So while your list might have better damage output against vehicles, mine will simply just keep fighting and rolling on.

Also, Infiltrators are still very good for their points, even if its just for pistols or carbines. They are, in my opinion, the second best unit to use when coupled with the Mars stratagem, considering how much they have to gain when its activated.

So continuing from the last thread anyone got any ideas on named characters?

From actual cannon...the Mechanicus doesn't have that many named characters in its fluff

I would kill for an Omnid Torquora and Stroika model.

Same here

Or just a skitarus alpha. HQ choice for skitarii

An Alpha Primus...yeah.

BS3+ WS3+ W3 T4 S4 Ld8/9 for...40/50 pts + wargear

I'd give him pistols and melee wargear with the option to take relics and such. Maybe new special special weapons

He's running a mostly catachan detachment with some scions joining in for all that cheap plasma goodness. Time to see how many guardsmen 20 Corpuscarii can put down.

I'd like characters that epitomise the various aspects of the admech (fabricator, genator, malagra, etc.). The slightly annoying thing is that Cawl already covers a load of these, being good at artificering, gene-tech, battle coordination, and probably other stuff as well. So I'm going to ask for a malagra tech-assassin character, as that's possibly the only thing fucking Cawl doesn't already have covered.

Does the admech have missionaries?

I don't think so. Just Tech-Priests who go to missions. Although I would like to convert some Crusaders to fit the AdMech look and say that they are random followers of the Machine Cult

So say a Forge World was to come across an intact but inactive Necron tomb world, and started dissecting the technologies within to augment their own, gradually escalating to tech heresy when they use the Necron tech to augment their cybernetics, how would you make and theme an army around this? What kitbashes could make it look cool, and what would you think of as the lore behind it all?

Cyrrik Scayl and Nomen Ryne.

so, the knights thermal cannon being d6 shots now makes it statistically better than 4 lascannons (with the exception of range) without the penalty for moving and firing a heavy weapon, which means for the first time in its entire existence it isn't complete garbage.

How do they determine who gets to be a tech priest?

If you are skilled with machines or very faithful you may join them.

I'd say mostly subtle stuff, like using a few necron torsos or arms instead of the skitarii ones. They look similar enough already that at first glance you wouldn't necessarily notice it, which could provide for a nice "Oh snap" moment when you finally do. Also, both the skitarii and the necron kit have individual torsos and arms, so it shouldn't be too hard to kitbash them together.
Other possible things could be kataphrons on destroyer platforms (or mounting a destroyer torso on kataphron treads), kastelans with canoptek spyder heads, sicarians with the arms of flayed ones or wraiths or a cross between a dunecrawler and a triarch stalker (they both have 4 legs and a hueg gun already, but that would be a pretty hard kitbash. Still epic if it works.)
Lorewise the main problem behind this is that the Mechanicus can't figure out how Necron tech actually works, since the physics behind it are so advanced and beyond their capabilities it's near impossible to actually replicate

cant they be gifted necrodermic bodies by lords? i swear I heard that somewhere.

As far as I know the necrons don't really use the soul transference anymore. The closest I can think of off the top of my head is the bionic arm that absorbed some of the Nightbringer's necrodermis that one of the ultramarines uses (without knowing what it is) in the uriel ventris series, but that was accidental.

Guys I think I've figured out why Mars has a 41 after it. Because if the answer to life, the universe, and everything is 42, Mars got the closest to finding it.

So is there a way to run Breachers? I have the stuff to convert mine to destroyers but I don't want to go crazy if someone has seen something I haven't.

Right now I'm looking at them being strictly meh-okay on paper, with not a lot of firepower at not very good accuracy. They were a little left behind this update. The Torsion cannon seems well overcosted, especially on the "4+ only ever" platform.

My thought is Heavy Arc Rifle and Arc Claw. You have the cheapest gear loadout and the most shots. Torsion cannon has great stats, but it's on a platform that makes it a literal coin-toss as to whether or not it does anything.

I wouldn't say they were left behind- quite the opposite. They dropped 10 points from the heavy arc rifle and gained an attack.

Definitely going AdMech for my first army since uh...

Uh. When did the Dark Eldar come out again?

Although the idea of a AdMech Genestealer Cult just hit me. Hm. ..Maybe a Stygies VIII Xenarite sect that got in over their heads.

I might start with a small SWA Skitarii force - does anyone play SWA?

Does anyone have The Enigma of Flesh in epub format?

We haven't been shown dedicated AdMech missionaries yet, but they still do engage in missionary work (albeit to a much lesser degree than the Ecclesiarchy, simply because they aren't as interested).

In one of the FFG RPGs (which ARE canon, and don't let any memers tell you otherwise), it mentions how a feudal world was transferred to the AdMech, and within a few decades, the population was worshipping the Omnissiah, had servitor "foot men," and cyborg draught animals.

5+ on overwatch would make my day against my main opponent who constantly runs a huge mob of genestealers at me on turn 1/2. That and the shoot into melee would be nice too.

Is there a box for them? Could you post link or something?

I don't play it tho. I haven't played 40k yet

So i just got the forges of mars book, how is it?

Purple Admech, because I thought it'd look cool, what forge world should I try to pass for?

best way to fluff more 'sympathetic' admech?
Sort of wanting to find a good angle for making becoming a member of the skitarii/cult mechanicus is a noble sacrifice. Giving up humanity etc.

I know it runs quite counter to most/all admech fluff but the homebrew system my game group run in was isolated from the imperium since the HH so everything's a bit more noblebright than usual anyway.

The dudes hail from a Knight World and its Skitarii march in the shadow of those mighty engines. They are venerated as gods and require maximum sacrifice to them, giving up your humanity to serve them

Go the Vostroyan firstborn route. All families of a Forgeworld aligned planet surrender their firstborn to become Kataphrons or Vanguard as penance or as a gift to the machine god.

any. say they are mad colonists that settled a new land, and are originally from

Not bad, but possibly more sympathetic? My Magos is modelled in what I can best describe as the 'Mercy' pose from Overwatch, except with a creepy metallic claw and stun baton instead of a gentle outstretched hand. He's gonna be reaching down towards a recoiling Guardsman/civvie

Base idea is they only take people who have already sired a child/replacement to ensure the healthiest genepool/diversity. These unfortunates lose all connection with their empathy and oved ones but go to defend their planet and system from invaders

The main theme of the Imperium is giving up on your humanity in order to save mankind. ie becoming mutant super warriors, by becoming nameless canonfodder by the trillions, the absurd amounts of suppression and ruthlessness of the inquisition, the inane bureaucracy, etc.

Willingly giving up your humanity to become members of the skitarii to save and protect your home planet isn't much of a stretch.

Just make the people joining the Skitarii not into mindless drones. Maybe the Magi let them keep their memories and stuff and instead use those tho foster a fanatical need to repay the mercy the Omnissiah showed them and their loved ones by keeping them alive and sorta well.

How noblebright are we talking here?

not a huge amount more. The warp storms recently dissipated meaning it's of a decidedly more liberal and less emperor-fearing system on average. Normally this'd be crusade/hereys worthy in its own right but given the Imperium's current ragged state and the high-possibility of archeotech and relics of the heresy the imperium thus far have decided to take a light touch.

We have a few players and armies, the Tau are approaching the outskirts as part of their 4th sphere, another ad mech player's forces are essentially doing covert ops/guerilla warfare with the resident guard regiment trying to steal secrets and there are two seperate battle sister orders, one trying to peacefully integrate the system while another is on the verge of holy frothing ragecrusades. Also DE are a pain in the ass and will always remain so.

tl;dr it's kinda like the tau. A relatively hopeful microsom of the imperium past meeting the grim reality of the modern IoM

For those who want to try out a custom paint scheme, I found this handy template!

I've been trying to base my Skitarii colors off of green, since it's something I didn't really see. I am thinking about painting their robes the same green that you see on WW2 era soviet tanks. Their armor probably a pewter/lead metallic color. Any advice for other colors that might look good in this green-grey scheme?

So what's the consensus on Vanguard and Rangers now? With Stygies I finally feel comfortable to run 10 man squads again outfitted with an omnispex and with either 3x plasma Calivers or 3x dirt cheap Arc rifles.

I'm still not sold on rangers.

rangers are finally the cheaper option so they're good for filling out troop slots. they're also the better option for a unit with 3x arquebus since they have decent range on their own and you won't be moving them much.

Would a ten man squad be preferable to a 5 man squad though, if you're running Arquebus squads?

I feel that as awesome as an Omnispex is, you want the data tether now. Being able to give +2 to hit is a crucial bonus. It means that with rangers you can move and fire your arquebuses with +2 to hit, and with vanguard you can advance and fire your plasma calivers at +2 to hit. .

bronze and copper go well with green

>you can move and fire your arquebuses with +2 to hit
Unfortunately not, as the arquebus itself states that you can't fire it if you moved in the movement phase. On Vanguard I agree though, and the morale reroll on the data tether also makes 10man squads somewhat more viable.

Here's a rough estimate of what I want to do open to ideas this is not final.

What's the use of +2 to hit when Vanguard have BS3? A roll of a 1 always fails regardless of modifyers.

I run my dudes in a similar color. Brass on the metallics looks great.

That was my thought process, I was going for a brassy look because I thought it looked better than the standard grey metal.
