Valve fantasy

so /v/alve apparently had a fantasy game in the works, before co-opting the work to make DOTA2: eurogamer.net/articles/2017-09-25-was-valve-making-a-co-operative-fantasy-adventure-game

The artist has dumped some of the work onto the internet: drewwolf.com/#/rndchar/

yet another reason I have to hate those pricks. yay.

This

You know I hate people who scream that stuff becoming main stream is bad but things like this make me believe it, guess it's a good thing I already hate myself.

sounds less like DnD and more like Heroquest desu.

You say that like its a bad thing.

honestly it never would've been released even if valve didn't scrap it into DOTA2. i don't even think we'll get artifact.

valve time exists largely because there is no real development teams & staff works on what they wanna work on with little to no oversight or direction from higher ups.

if valve didn't have steam they would've closed down years ago. because they can't sustain a business with their current corporate culture.

without Steam they probably would've been a more traditional dev.

With Source engine, they'd probably be like Crytek or ID... I don't think it'd be as popular as Epic's Unreal Engine, so just a second-best like Crysis or Frostbyte

>Valve making a fantasy game
Does it feature a number 3 in its title? Because that's where the actual fantasy is for Valve.

That also means that you count on them to be passionate about what they're developing, instead of just endlessly milking the same IPs with shit games that have absolutely no soul.

heretic for hire?

How does that work?

I assume basic merc, who dabbles in occult stuff

>new game
>from valve
Forgive me if I don't hold my breath.

This desu
Valve is fucking hundreds of millions of no-risk money ( it's not like the market can switch off of steam over night ) and they use that money to...create dumb clones of popular games and mods to minimize risk. That's when they even feel like making anything.
What a bunch of jews.

It means "escort".

This is a game that definitely won't appear, otherwise the artist wouldn't have shown this art.

You defile other Gods, because your God is THE INVISIBLE HAND.
But you aren't top dog enough to active corporate warfare.

Shit user, you're off by one for a full deck

Anymore info on the game? It seems the game would have multiple heroes, but what kind of gameplay would it have?

If I had to guess I would say isometric or maybe 2D, the artstyle doesn't really look like something that could work with other perspective

Isometric seems likely if they ripped assets for Dota.

fornication outside wedlock

heresy is betraying your religion, not just any sinful thing

maybe it was really good fornication

probably but i don't think source is all that impressive when compared to IDtech, frostbyte or the cryengine

>That also means that you count on them to be passionate about what they're developing
not entirely true.

alot of big name devs usually prove AAA publishers right and expose themselves as hacks when they go indie. schafer & inafune are proof of that.

...

I think as a more traditional dev, you'd see more resources focused on Source, so it would have progressed along with the current stuff. It pretty much stalled along with their game development

>instead of just endlessly milking the same IPs
What's the last game they put out that wasn't a sequel or expansion pack?

I mean, shit, what's the last full game they put out period? Was it dota?

...

yea, DOTA2

can't wait for
>Gabe Newell's Team Fortress Royale

A very certain Heretic.

thanks, yeah I see it now.

Wonder how the artist felt, losing all that work to Dota2. Maybe he didn't care, maybe he did.

>i don't even think we'll get artifact.
I dunno, card games are like 99% art budget and everyone working at Valve now is a hat design expert so it seems possible at least.

I fucking love Heretic and Hexen, they were so good. Every once in while I was give em a go again.

> people shitting on valve because muh no hl3
why you gotta be so petty
they're like literally any other corporation, why is this suddenly surprising to you

Because at one point in the past, they were more innovative than the rest of the gaming industry.

Zero pre-rendered cutscenes, Intuitive controls, thought-out level design.

Money from Dota2 and CS:GO made them lazy and entitled fucks who think that their customers owe them the world for creating Steam and the games being sold on it.

See the Bethesda paid-modding example as Exhibit A on how fked up Valve is now.

>they're like literally any other corporation, why is this suddenly surprising to you
They aren't though. Their corporate culture invites stagnation and lack of innovation.
