Steampunk Vikings

It's been brought to my attention that the world (and particularly Veeky Forums) is lacking in steampunk vikings.
This injustice will not stand.

Lacking them implies they are something I would want

This shit is worse than the most egregious wolfwankery that Games Workshop perpetrates with the Space Wolves and you should feel bad and come to realize after sober reflection that you are not the person that Mr. Rogers knew you could be.

dude thats going too far man are you trying to kill op with shame?

Nah, man, here's how Steampunk Vikings would work:

>The world is Steampunk
>Vikings are not
>They still raid shit with the same stuff they've been using for nearly a thousand years by that point
>Somehow it still works.

So you somehow get this advanced, steampunk society with war robots armed with lightning guns on standby to protect a town.

And somehow, they still get bested by a bunch of screaming berserkers who then rip the robots apart, torch the town, plunder the women and rape the buildings.

Just like how Space-Opera Vikings should just ride around in regular longships with rockets strapped to them and their space suits being nothing more than fishbowls on their heads.

That does sound a little more reasonable.

I read a book once where the characters end up in an alternate history with space romans. The space romans discovered how to make these devices that seemed infinite energy sources. You point them where you want, put a little current through them, and they can rocket you into the sky. A strong enough one and they can take you to other planets.

So their ships were just giant concrete and stone blobs filled with only enough air to last the journey. They barely developed any more technologically and still relied on slaves. They conquered the world and then went out to conquer other planets.

The characters eventually escaped only to run into a universe of space aztecs who were kind of the same but much better in other ways.

Eh, that’s just sticking standard Vikings next to standard steampunk. It lacks the élan of Industrial Revolution techno-vikings with steam longboats and weird coil helmets and stuff like that.

Yes user, industrial complex is something that befitts a tribalistic warrior culture.
And then steamfags wonder why nobody like their shitty style.

I never liked Mr. Rogers.

Honestly this. It's like sticking native Americans in samurai armor. It just doesn't work.

The Vikings were a feudalistic, seafaring, agricultural society, not a band of tribal warriors.

Still none of that particularly marries well with mechanized industrialization and empire-building.

By that point they're so far removed from what you consider Vikings it's basically still just pointless cogfoppery but with horned helmets instead of top hats.

The Norse of the Viking age were several kingdoms doing international trade and exploration with well developed shipbuilding and fishing industries and fighting several wars of expansion and conquest across large sections of Europe.

depends on the setting.

What the fuck does unironically liking shitty geek-chic aesthetics have to do with Mr. Rogers you fucking meme child?
