>That sounds cool, how can I get into it? Read the 3e core book (link below). For mechanics of the old edition, play this tutorial: mengtzu.github.io/exalted/sakuya.html . It’ll get you familiar with most of the mechanics.

Lunar edition? What is your Lunar's spirit shape and what does it tell about her?

Olga is a Zenith, right? On topic, been thinking of creating a stubborn old goat of a Lunar.
Christopher Hernandez
>What is your Lunar's spirit shape and what does it tell about her? A snow lion. She's a real cool cat.
Nathan Jenkins
>What is your Lunar's spirit shape?
I try to avoid stuff thats too common when making a Lunar. So, no common cats (tigers, lions, house cat shit), no wolves, no hawks or owls. That kinda thing. If only because it's done way too often, and not only that, by the worst people too (ie: fucking furries).
And since the thread theme is Lunars apparently, I'll dump all of my Lunar art. Get ready for some waifu's and cheesecake though, because I'm a forever GM so NPC's will tend towards what I would use in a game, not what I'd personally play myself, more often than not. Which are two very different things.
Eli Nguyen
I like that goat pic. Saved.
Grayson Hernandez
Incoming tittymonster. Never actually used this pic, hrm. Oh well.
Aiden Collins
Have used this one though. Mostly to piss off my players. Goddamn they hate the NPC I attached to this pic.

Nice. What's the story behind that tetsubo?
Parker Turner
I always thought of that image as being one of a Solar Icewalker. What are some animals that you've used for Lunars?
Kayden White
I want more wood horned dragons in Exalted. I always loved that aesthetic. Also, tittymonster.

Did they hate her for the image? What was the character like?
No story. Can't remember where I got the image, either.

So fucking much you can do there, it's great. Have you seen the art of White Mantis?
Elijah Howard
I find scantily-clad far hotter than straight up nudity. That's why g-strings and micro bikinis are the best.

Armor in Exalted functions on rule of cool. Or anime armor rules, essentially, where you're counting damn near anything as armor.
They hated her as a character. Scheming sorceress type. Not even actively detrimental to them, she's just a rabble rouser in general. And old enough to get away with it. Her thing was basically prodding societies until they overcame or collapsed. Lots of spy networks, that sort of thing. She'd be a good info broker if she ever actually bothered to share any info. No Moon.
And no I don't even know what White Mantis is.
Matthew Kelly
It's more along the lines of several factors that which make me enjoy Veeky Forums over some other places.
1) Anonymous
In Veeky Forums only the content of your message matters. If you're an idiot you will be called out as such. If you have a good idea then you will also be called out as such. Often when I go to message boards I actively ignore who the author is and just look at the content itself. A lot of places have a lot of blind respect for people just because of their names, which leads people thinking this is a good idea merely because X said it was, even though in reality it probably isn't.
Likewise if its also welcoming if I make a dumb post or act like a retard in the moment it won't be held over my head (provided you don't get banned). I can wash my hands, walk off, and not worry about anything.
2) Relative free speech
There is very little I can't talk about on Veeky Forums that I could on other sites. Even with some of the things in the past (Which I know some people could immediately call me out on) but I'm free to discuss what I want. There are very few, if any, banned topics.
But yes you summarized that in a single sentence.
I feel that it's kind of an artifact. You can go there to discuss tabletop games yes, but with Tabletop Rollplaying Open [AKA: Anything that isn't d20 DnD/Paizo] it is too diluted. Even SV has a stronger sense of flavor and community in their megathreads while RPG.net just drifts. Furthermore it is not a good place for Exalted, much of the board has written off exalted dead for years and are basically full of those 1e gronards who pine for the 'pure' days of 1e... without realizing that 1e had massive flaws in itself.
Pine for mechanically in addition to fluff by the way. Usually when I heard 1e purists talk about "dice adders" being a problem in 3e I can only just stare in disbelief.

Also if people notice a lot of the pics end up very pale. This is due to the older fluff where Lunars tended to get pale with age, same as how Solars used to get tanned with age.

I also tend towards the more monstrous types for Lunars. Honestly wish it was more monstrous in general.

White Mantis is a furry artist that does great work with insects.
Brandon Long
Yeah, I like all types of weapons. It's magic man, don't gotta explain how it works, it just does. Rule of cool etc.
Oh lawdy. Probably why I didn't know them then. I'm sure some of my Lunar art probably is furry art, but if it is, I don't know.

Mothgirls, whee.

The most common of all Lunars: The catigrl.
Julian Scott
When I recruit for Exalted games I ask people what splat they want to play and if they say Lunars I tell them the game is full. Lunar players are to RPGs what anime watchers are to real life. I'm sure there are well-adjusted ones out there, but I haven't met them yet.
Jace Fisher
...
Lucas Allen
Will that ever get translated?
Zachary Young
If you're playing Exalted in the first place you're probably not well adjusted. One look at any Exalt chat room will tell you as much.
Also heres some hard gay Lunar.

That would imply a group out there would actually have good taste, so probably not.

My problem with Chung is his whole thing was self-reaffirming, too many people came away from his rants deciding that trying to make the Storyteller cry was the correct way to play.
Josiah Miller
More of an armor, but eh, something used for Lunars.
Jaxon Lee
10/10, would commit heresy for some of that tail.
Julian Ortiz
you realise with that recruitment strategy you might never meet them?
Logan Stewart
Thats the problem with pointing out the faults in things at times. When they're fully realized to such a degree, people want to try it, or are convinced it's the only way to do things and not outright get wrecked.
I try to keep a healthy mix of cheesecake and beefcake around. I don't run porn games, but I also know some eye candy is appreciated by both sexes.

We can do both.

More people than not thought he was advocating the stuff he was talking about. It's a shame the old WW forums are gone because I remember it being a common perception that Jon Chung hated Exalted.
Carson Reed
The old WW forums were sometimes not so bad. Sometimes a mess. Neph was pretty good for a while though, got a lot of author intent about Abyssals from him back in the day...

My problem with Chung was his attempts to prove Ex3 was broken while also categorically refusing to read Ex3. He has put more effort into screaming about the game based on hearsay than *actually* figuring out what does and does not work about the mechanics, because as far as he's concerned, he's a fucking genius and can totally half-ass this even when people are trying to shake him by the shoulders and point out where the book contradicts his arguments.
Caleb Gonzalez
...
Christopher Williams
Yeah, arguing mechanics doesn't work if you don't fucking read them. Then again, a lot of people do that, or do it off half remembered mechanics. I think that was a time his ego got the better of him.

It was a good dump.
On a related topic, what are people's thoughts on beastmen? In theory they're cool, but I've never been able to see them be integrated in a non-magical-realm way, given that you need to either hand-make them, so to speak, or use sorcery to give mutations to people.
Xavier Stewart
I like the idea of them, don't like the magical realm shit surrounding them. I'd probably like it better if it were just a thing that happened from Lunars sexin' normally instead of outright beastiality or DBT shenanigans.
Angel Long
So, I'm looking through the core book and I can't tell if you're allowed to activate an excellency after you've rolled the dice for the thing you try to do. Can somebody point me to a page?
Jonathan Myers
I don't have a page, but you cannot enhance a roll after the fact. You must always declare what charms you want to use before rolling, and that includes excellencies.
David Wright
>you cannot enhance a roll after the fact
Unless the charm in question specifically says that you can (e.g. Rising Sun Slash)
Aiden Long
Actually, due to natural language horseshit, you're left to figure out when you can use a charm by its context. Excellencies, having no real context fall into a grey area.
Asher Stewart
Page 251. >Players (including the Storyteller) must openly declare which Charms their characters are using, and all Charms (unless their text indicates otherwise) must be declared, and their costs spent, /before/ any dice are rolled. Attackers declare their Charms before defenders.
