If you wanna do Japanese Zone you'll need bigger disaster than Fukushima leakage.

Like a fictional version of Fukushima?

Hiroshima and Nagasaki, but with more buildings.

We just need to hand wave paranormal stuff effecting the amount of radiation effecting the Fukushima Zone. Like say, a rift opened up between Fukushima and Cyrnobyle that made the radiation level skyrocket.

But enough about that, what would a Nippon STALKER be like?

the Stalker RPG has a section about the Japanese Zone.

IS it developed at all or just throwaway fluff?

>inorganisms

Huh?

Seems like it would be fun, more of an emphasis on melee weapons since guns would rarer. Maybe some of the phenomena would be regarded as spirits.

Pretty much japan stuck in 2011.
The S.T.A.L.K.E.R.S. would be mostly Japanese.
There would be radioactive wild boars
Probably have to handwave some supernatural crazy shit a la S.T.A.L.K.E.R. to make it more intersting

S.T.A.L.K.E.R.S. mostly searching for gold jewelry or other such modern valuables.

Shorts and gas masks the most common attire
Very few guns as Japan has pretty strict gun control. Perhaps some melee weapons or the odd pistol or shotgun.

Essentially Chernobyl without decayed 80s aesthetic, automatic weapons or slavs. 3 of the main things that make S.T.A.L.K.E.R. so cool.

>or other such modern valuables.
Porn mags?

Would gun smuggling be a good to arm your party?

rare tentacle porn mags

So some kind of tentacle monster lives at the center?

radiation causes some giant sea-thing to start causing havoc.

S.T.A.L.K.E.R. meets godzilla?

>S.T.A.L.K.E.R. meets godzilla?

Yes. In fact I can picture pic related fitting right in with the STALKER vers

>that dog dong

Was it really necessary to include that?

>S.T.A.L.K.E.R. meets godzilla?

Fucking sexy, dude.

Yes

So would we go full sky scraper Kaiju here or a more moderate house sized kaiju like the Host?

Get out of here Serval.

>Pretty much japan stuck in 2011.
>2011
Holy shit, it was already six years?

Scary small psychic girls in white rags with long hair that float. They are not cute beneath the hair that obscures their face, they are grotesque mutants, do not waifu them.

I will and you can't stop me

Shitposting aside that sounds neat.

So what would the factions be? Militarized hikikomori?

The Zone, at first, sounds like a great place to escape from society, even if incredibly life-threatening. You'll be free from the sixteen hour work shifts, the social obligations of kissing upper management's ass if you want to climb the corporate ladder at all, the overly polite and fake nature of communication where people can't ever outright say what they mean, the pressure of the collective to conform.

Except, when people travel to new territory, they bring their culture with them. I imagine that factions in the Fukushima Zone would be much worse than society at large outside of it. The nail that sticks out isn't hammered back in place, it's pulled out and used to detect anomalies. There will be an expectation to put in as many hours of labor as they would have outside the zone, except now the work always has a very real, tangible threat to your life. You're expected to bring back more artifacts than you're told, kill more mutants than required, and simply meeting the quota has you shunned as being a selfish person who only does "just enough to get by." As these people are not held accountable to any higher authority, they can replicate the society of the outside, except they put themselves and their friends at the top. It would be hell.

Save for the Yakuzas. They would already have the organization, leadership, and hierarchy in place necessary to not go full Lord of the Flies in the Zone. They also have ready access to guns, drugs, prostitues, and everything. They could very well wind up running significant portions of the Zone, if not the whole thing, with various groups carving up any territory the JGSDF wasn't sharing.

So, my idea of what the Zone would look like is:
>JGSDF securing borders, possibly some research locations within the Zone
>Yakuza directly control significant areas, indriectly control through useful puppet factions
>A few batshit crazy factions made up of nationalists, otaku/hikkis, and what have you.

Who knows, maybe in Japan there exist creatures that were made up of discarded electronics and/or machines. Or maybe a hybrid of organic/inorganic life.
Like a mutant dog covered in circuit boards and CPU chips, feeding off it like plastic and metal ticks. Maybe warped mockery of human form made of motorcycle parts run around looking for more parts to make their brethren. Or snakes made of electrical cables that come alive and strangle someone that passes by to eat their ambient electric energy.

9 pages specifically. Not counting fluff.

Things that act alive, but can't possibly be so.

Shit man. Link/PDF?

start small with some bloodscuker sized beasts. Use the bigger boys for bosses or final bosses

You heard about that Freedom guy who made a sex tape with a bloodsucker, right? You really think you'll stop them?

right. Let's start out small. Would Tanooki mutants be interesting? Japanese themed bloodsuckers?

Don't forget cultists. Gotta have cultists from Happy Science, proclaiming it as sacred ground and that the Buddha that will lead Humanity's salvation will be born from the core of the Zone.

Tanuki or kitsune. Some mutate amalgam that is able to change its skin pigmentation to perfectly mimc its surrounding and is flexible enough to bend into a myriad shapes.

It's essentially an ambush predator

The Nuclear disaster didn't really do anything in S.T.A.L.K.E.R, it was the psychic fuckery that came after it.

For the tanooki I was more envisioning a horrible raccoon mutant with balls bigger then its body. Mabye we could do a mixture of the two

Mutants / beasts the create cults of followers.

Kind of like genestealer cults.

Choose something cool from this list:
en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_legendary_creatures_from_Japan

Then give it a cult of followers and perhaps hybrids.

I imagine a Fukushima S.T.A.L.K.E.R. to be less about bandits and guns, and more about cults and supernatural beasts. Almost like a miyazaki film gone wrong - beautiful rural setting but with a feeling or unease - the cult is always watching you...

Well we could go the way of Pom Poko and have them use their balls as the means of camouflage. They just wrap themselves up in hit to hide, then come out when they think it's time to strike.

Well actually I was basing the cult in the Zone to be more like cults that Japan has and still has to deal wit: The batshit craziness of Happy Science(an amalgam of Christianity and Buddhism wrapped up in an easy to sell Scinetology-esque wrapper with the murderous intent of Aum Shinrikyo(Buddhists that dropped sarin gas in crowded Tokyo subway during rush hour).

So basically this cult would see the monsters of the Zone as holy creatures, and the Zone itself a land touched by God, hence why they dedicate themselves to eradicating any nonbelievers in the Zone while at the same time trying to push to the center.

What was that one Japanese cult that gas bombed a subway? I feel like we could probably take some ques from those guys

Aum Shinrikyo is yes. Happy Science just believes that Jesus, Allah, Buddha, and Confusious all exist in a divine pantheon under a supreme creator called El Cantare and something something something Chinese Empire something something Buddha savior.

What if their balls have the texture and hardness of a rock? So you could just walk around in this debris-strewn place and all of a sudden that roundish rock you passed by turns out to be a tanuki, and now it's throwing off its disguise to kill you!

I like it. What about kitsun? Psychic mutants?

How about making that a variant? Like the Nosalis from Metro, you have different kinds that are adapted to different ways to catching their prey. You have the soft balled tanuki that hide and wait to catch prey unaware, and then there's the hard-balled Tanuk that use their sack as protection and as weight when they pounce on their prey to bring them town.

Maybe even flying Tanuk that use extra thin, big ball sacks to glide in the air, hitting their target from above, or flying over obstacles.

That seems fitting. Mabye they would be the psudo dog of the region

The Kitsune kind of fill the same category as Tanuki though, they're tricksters.

It could be a mutant that uses subterfuge to catch a stalker unaware but I'm not sure how that'd work. Maybe lure them in with illusions, like imitating human speech, or projecting illusions that look like humans if you only see it for a split second. Just enough to pique an unwitting stalker's curiosity before they get a mouthful of teeth to the face.

have you seen pics? its not that far off...all it really needs is roving bands with guns

Who says they have to be psychic. They could be the regional equivalent to the blood sucker.

Or perhaps they have nine tails that are like a cross between peacock brilliance and cuttlefish hypnosis. So they will cause your brain to BSOD like Controllers, but instead of using purely psychic stuff they overload your visual cortex?
And like Tanukis, Kitsunes hunt in packs. So you'll be sure that there's 3 hiding somewhere nearby when you see one strutting that brilliant orange hue fan of a tail, which somehow reminds you of this other place and time, and that relaxes your trigger finger juuust enough for the hidden ones to rip your throat.

Not that user but here's the legit buy link rpgnow.com/product/100243/STALKER--The-SciFi-Roleplaying-Game

Diceless shit system but all the advice and lore is great. I'm sure somebody in the pdf trove thread or something has a copy if you got no neetbux.

Cults and the supernatural would make it distinctive enough from the STALKER games. A few:

>Pana-Wave Laboratory: Electromagnetics will kill us and Communists are to blame. Moves to remove countryside locations, wears white clothing and surgical masks and travels in white vans, the world is destroyed if leader dies. Kidnapped a seal once.
>Life Space Movement: Noteworthy because the leader claimed to be a supernatural healer and thought that, along with his cultists, the four months decayed corpse of a comatose patient he put in a hotel was evidence that the healing was working.
>Aum Shinrikyo: Leader takes upon the sins of the world, takes away follower's sins and bad deeds and grants them spiritual power. US will start WWIII, and only Aum Shinrikyo followers will be saved. Did two sarin gas attacks.
>Happy Science: Aside from what was already mentioned, leader claims he can commune with dead world leaders and has enough followers to form the Happiness Realization Party in Japan.
>Yamato No Miya: Woman receives revelation that water is damaging people's minds so she sets out to find pyramid-powered water.

A special mention can go to online suicide clubs. I'm sure the Zone would be the new hotness to go and off yourself, or some sort of ritual suicide to "ascend."

Yeesh this died pretty fast. Where'd everyone go?

Tidal Surge soon, fellow Wader.

Just play Demon City Shinjuku. It's the zone, in supernatural and set it the middle of Tokyo.

Ill throw out some basic lore, Japan being inovative little shits they are. Decieded to do Psychic research to explain the miracles of new technology. No-Sphere already being as unstable as it is in Real Stalker, it splits open causing Fukushima to go Hay Wire. After the massive evacuations the zone slowly formed from psychic remants of peoples fear. Mutants formed from psychic emboditments of fear taking the form of demented Yokai. Anomalys taking cue in the same regard become horrid things for the people who stayed. Now more than ever more people flock to Fukushima zone in searh of riches. Some even say there may be a cash of ancient prototypes located near the research center

>Mutants formed from psychic emboditments of fear taking the form of demented Yokai.

Just fucking add a splinter group made of /jp/ fanatics thinking they have found a way to Gensokyo. Just FUCKING.DO.IT.

Next Idea relating to Monsters: No Youkai is the same none are permanent. Much like the zones anomalys. Some fight and kill humans while other work with. That doesn't mean there friendly, they act only for the good of themselves.

>Notable Yokai
1: >Nine Bite foxes, a humanoid figure clad in old farming clothing, from his body lays nine bites from a fox, it is highly immune to gun fire taking a considereable amount to put them down
2: "Soldiers": Hunched over soldiers verying in orgin. Gear as old as Waring states have been encounter, they are out right hostile and attack with out warning. When killed it is known the suits are hollowed shells with nothing of remain except for fragments of long forgotten bones
3: "Tengu" Bird like monsters formed from the mutant crows found in Fuushima. They are not out right hostile if treated correctly. But if one is to disturb them, god help them.
Jorōgumo: Known to be the rarest and one of the most dangerous mutants in the zone. They are a humanoid tower above the humans, they seem to mounted to a archanid like body. They have been known to capture humans and keep them wraped in Steel threads, it is not known if they eat there capture or if they just torture them.

Remant orgin:
1: The foxes seem to orginate from a unknown farmer whos "pet" lashed out agaisnt the owner when plant went hay wire. His suffering orginates from how his prized pet betrayed him.
2: Soldiers, the embodiment of warriors who died protecting Fuukshima. Any valient warrior who dies in Fuukshima is said to be ressurect as one. Many a stalker has claimed to see dead STALKERs they knew.
4: It is said Jorōgumo is the psychic remains of a infamous interrogator who was known to wrap his "subjects" in steel cable and leave him to suffer till he confesses.

There is way to many Yokai to list. Buts thats just examples.
"The Fanatics of Gensokyo" or better known by Local STALKER's as cult games. cont

The cult is known to try to allie and support the monsters of the zone. Almost always to mixed results. It is said the promise land they speak of is very same research center the Fuukshima zone started from. When one reaches the "paradise" they are tortured and contiously forced to suffer, so they may create more Monsters. Once they are fully broken and unable to make any more. They are consumed by there own creations. The orgins of the group seem to come a group of fanatics on /JP/, the orginal thread which they started from is lost some where among the archives.

They known to be enemys with JDF and a band of former /K/ members known as Anti Weeabo Operators or shortly known as AWO.

AWO: The group orginally started as a joke but slowly developed into a full power house whos only goal is to stop cult games from bring more Yokai into the zone.

You forgot to add the part where being consummed is the only way they consider sure to be reincarnated themselves as a Yokai in the "real" promised land. (Let's leave the "as a cute little girl with a funny hat" part if you prefer)

Sounds like a good religious idea to me. Some of the older followers are die hard and will kid nap and do what ever it takes to bring others to monsters.
AWO currently attempts to stop them each time they do it. Usually to mixed results.

>Notable Yokai

How could you forget the Kitsune user ? How could you ?!

Fuck it heres the next part of the list
>"Kitsunes": Better known to be one of the few Yokai who are actively allied with humanity. They eathier can be you most loyal allies or a devlish trickster that never trys to go to far. Described to be the "most" human of yokai, and almost always female. They are able use transformation psychic abilitys and other gifts. There capabiltys are not fully known but are said to be much stronger than most "yokai".
Inari: Or better known as White foxes by some stalkers, are local fuukshima's equivlant of a Anti zone, they work alongside humanity in attempts to stop the zone at any cost. They are normaly female but for all we know there a male ones. Inari are known to support STALKER towns and are generally treated as a object of respect. At current there are eight STALKER towns with inari protecting them. Each are ironically near some form of shrine, could these monsters be the psychic remants of priests and shrine maidens blessing to protect humanity or could they be a gift from the gods.
"Murasmasa Wielders": Better known as swordsmith, they take the form of a faceless man, clad in ancient robes. They each bear a sacred pair of swords similiar to Muramasa. Each of the swordsmith varie in personality, for example some hate humanity and others support it. But one things remain, they are extremely violent and clearly insane. The ones that bear a liking to humantity act as Top notch technicians, no matter the era of the weapon a Muramasa wielder can fix it and or modify it.

Orgins:
Muramasa: It is unknown if Muramasa are the psychic remants of the ancient black smith, Masamune. But if the Inari are to be trusted, they most defintly are.

Woops shit grammer. The last sentance I meant, "If the inari are to be trusted then wielder most definitely are" Yeah just wanted to clear that up before hand

>"Kitsunes": Better known to be one of the few Yokai who are actively allied with humanity.

Like the fuckers don't have an endgame where they fuck us all balls deep with their 9 tails.

Who knows they could be allies with us or could be agaisnt us. But thats also brings up the point are all psychic remants bad memorys or other?
I say it can be postive ones such as some monsters are the embodyiment of a happy event that changes a mans life. This also brings up the point, are all Yokai allied together or are they split into factions

>the point are all psychic remants

Pray that shit doesn't syphoon the Yasukuni Shrine or the imperial Tama or it is over.

Lets hope user it never spreads.
The zone does not seem to spread unlike Ukraine Zone. It grows and contracts but it never passes the orginal consumed area

I would think the Yokai are just mutated wildlife/psychic phenomena that are named based on the Yokai they closest represent. Like the Tanukis being mutated raccoon-dogs that take on the aspects of their mythological counterpart.

Or Gashadokuros being giant golems made of bones, weapons, and clothes that seek to devour anything it can catch, yet if it takes neough blows to the head, it falls apart, revealing a strange artifact that attracts inanimate objects to itself, and the more that attatch itself to the artifact, it starts to get more 'intelligent' about what it integrates into its new body until a new Gashadokuro is formed

You could also have yamabiko dogs, grossly mutated dogs with loose articulations all over the place mimicquing both movements and sounds from the stalkers. Once a stalker gets its attention drawn to it he'll be perplexed for a moment, just enough for the yamabiko he didn't see to kill him. After that his equipment is stolen and the barely humanoidly shaped beast wears it to hide its grotesque form and trap another stalker. Since they use to wear other stalkers clothes they can actually be a good source of loot but be careful some are said to look exactly human, rumors even speak of them wearing the torn off face of their victims and being able to imitate their voice.

After posting that I realize that an eldritchian abomination with a shiba face yelling at you ANUUU CHEEEEKI BREEEKIII must indeed be very perplexing.

Okay that's a lot of good material for what stalks the stalkers. Now what about the stuff stalkers want. What sort of things exist exclusively in the Zone that make huge amounts of Yen for hunters that find them?

Did you know there are naturally radioactive inhabitet places with as much or even more radiation than Fukushima?

>S.T.A.L.K.E.R
Fixed that for you.

Artifacts of course. But for some reason none of them are the same as in that other Zone...

Sake

jewelry.
Its just lying around in shops, you can go around and pick it up, thousands of dollars worth.

perhaps the most dangerous and highly prized object might be enriched uranium that shady characters want to buy for their respective governments (say North Korea?), so their governments can make some nuclear weapons.

game is called stalker not looter, make with the scifi shit

Maybe you have to capture the weird creatures and those are the artifacts? Like a live-capture monster hunter shtick.

Nah, you can get better firearms from your yakuza contact. Those fuggers jizz Uzis.

Well of course, but what I mean is what do these artifacts do.

What is so special about them that puts such huge bounties on acquiring them.

I imagine highly grotesque effects but with high monetary values like:

Tanuki talisman: cure impotence and infertility. Some even rarer supposedly baldness and make you grow 10 cm.

Lunar rabbit paw: you become incredibly lucky (may be a scam actually)

Silly frilly hat: people and creatures alike can't help but find everything you do goofy and cute and will go easy on you.

And so on.

Welp thanks for the idea. Time to mark down the next Yokai List
Gashadokuros: Or known as Jap Golems by some stalkers. They are malformed heaps of diffrent trash and general random objects. They normally stand around 7 Feet to 8 tall but other have been encountered standing at 20-30 feet tall. Each of them at the very core have one inanimate object that seems to grant them sentiance and intelligence. There intelligence is that of a older adult and have been known to capture humans and form some undead soldiers of the captured humans. They are great for loot but at the costs they fight in comonly large groups and are almost always in hard to fight locations.

Varients:
"Titan": These are the largest and one of the dumbest golems, they seem to be combined effort of many golems fused together. This seems to have turned it very docile. But if one is to every anger the creature, god knows what will happen. (3 have been found but it theorised there are many more below the streets)
"Dreadnought": Or simply known as Dreads, these creatures are one of the most common types, they tank amazing amounts of damage but move extremely slowly and can be easily destroyed if you have the ammo and patience.
"Trapper": These bastards are known to only be found in city areas and second most common of the creatures. Trappers are known to set piano wire traps among the city, these creatures do not take hosts, only seemingly killing for the fun and the hunt
"Engineers": Or known as Spawn yards, these things have only been encountered once. There special ability seems to be able to make smaller class golems, they are also notable for being the only golem type to use ranged attacks. These attacks involve firing off a rapid amount of random garbage. Ranging from nails to bone. To what has been encountered they are assumed to stand above 3 times the height of the average human.
"Soldiers": The Most common and the most understood. cont

Continue: Soldiers are known to be remants of former humans who have died or been unluckily captured by the Gashadokuros. They have not lost anything from death and again more than they were in life. They seem to retain there personality and intelligence but instead of there usual personality, they are out right hostile to stalkers. The only way to truely kill one is to destroy there golem controller.

Unarmed.
There arent many guns in japan; even the military is technically disarmed. Melee weapons dont scream 'stalker' to me either (id say its popularity on /k/ corroborates this as well).
It'd either be very urban or mountainous which does sound quite cool. Mutants could easily take inspiration from youkai to give it a japanese flavour.

Overall though i dont think stalker is a good for for anywhere besides eastern europe really. Its depressing and bleak atmosphere (whether were talking about the book, film or games) just doesnt translate as well anywhere else imo.

It'd make a lot more sense to make a new ip even if it borrowed a lot from stalker if only because mutants being friendly (or even sapient) seems ill fitting whereas it makes a lot of sense if the 'mutants' were youkai (as in it would be more appropriate for japanese lore).

>even the military is technically disarmed

The technically is important because in practice it is easily the 4th biggest and best equipped army in the world.

>because mutants being friendly (or even sapient) seems ill fitting

Aren't the blacks (the mind power enriched ones, not the melanin enriched ones) of Metro 2033 the next step of human evolution while the setting is in the same universe as stalker ?

> What would the Fukushima Zone and S.T.A.L.K.E.R.S be like?
Booooring and lame.

You should do something more interesting, like, I dunno, Indonesian archipelago Zone.
>the ocean water is irradiated
>Bermuda Triangle-like anomalies
>people living in small isolated communities on islands, who have to travel from island to island through the irradiated ocean in order to trade/scavenge/survive
>mutant terrors from the depths of the ocean, I dunno, shit like mutated sharks and whales and deep-water fish that tries to suck out your eyeballs through a tentacle straw or something
>nuclear clouds obscuring skies fucking up everything, seeing as Indonesian #1 source of energy is solar panels

Or, hell, you can do South America Zone, that shit would also be dope as fuck, or the Saudi Arabia Zone, in the middle of Dubai.

Japan is pretty boring as far "nuclear disaster" shit goes. There is no aesthetic or special thing to exploit. Like, can you imagine a cargo cult forming in Japan? What it would be about, a bunch of salarymen pretending that everything is fine, carving shit on wooden boards to emulate computers and going around their daily routine, because they want to pretend the disaster never happened, because of their fucked up social culture?
Or a bunch of kids pretending to be superheroes and going around performing vigilantism and emulating sentai heroes?
Like I said, that's lame.

>setting is in the same universe as stalker
according to what? The writers (or roadside picnic and metro) are different and, to my knowledge, they havent collaborated at all. Certainly, the film has no affiliation. There are claims that 4A has a lot of ex-GSC devs but Grigorovich doesnt and, iirc, even dismissed the idea that there was any connection.

The games themselves bare very little resemblance in terms of lore beyond 'post apocalypse russia' but even here on is far more extreme than the other (that being metro) and the origins are totally different.

If were talking strictly stalker then i cant think of any mutants which expressed sapience. Even controllers, which would be assumed to be the most intelligent mutant, simply acted like animals in the game and mutants make no appearance in either the book or film (both of which are essentially connected only to the game in name and location).

Im really not sure i buy that. China, the USA, NK and Russia all have larger armies. I guess we could discount NK for being an army from 1960 but in terms of size Id be surprised if SK was smaller (considering they have conscription) or any of the major population countries like India, Brazil, Pakistan etc. That said, best equipped i'd fully believe.

I guess the Yakuza have guns and they'd fit well into a zone imo so that'd solve the gun issue. Still, japan is very on the ball with law and order so i cant see their being guns and ammo everywhere like there are in stalker.

>Or, hell, you can do South America Zone
south america irl is worse than the zone.

That's exactly my point.
The divide between the rich and the poor is so severe that in event of the nuclear apocalypse, most of the poor people might actually benefit from it (because they can now scavenge the rich territories, instead of being shot on sight by the private security). It would make for an interesting dissonance, and the cargo cult mentality (which is essential to a proper nuclear apocalypse scenario, in my opinion) is especially strong among the less literate part of populace, which coincides with the poor part of the populace.

>according to what?

If I recall correctly some survivor in the metros are former stalker. But I haven't read the book and when I played the (first) game I was so fucking sick I was hallucinating so much I thought that the distortion I saw in reality were just the game being so freakin' immersive so I don't remember much.

>Im really not sure i buy that. China, the USA, NK and Russia all have larger armies.

NK has a joke of a navy that would make narcos in hand crafted submarines from columbia laugh and its aviation is litterally made of wooden biplan and 2 or 3 Migs who surely aren't even in the state to fly. The last time they bombarded that south korean island more than a quarter of the shells didn't even explode and their land based army is a complete joke. Even their missile capabilities beside that copy of the russian SAM S-300 are a joke beside a few ballistic missiles that probably wouldn't get far. In its current state it is a joke of an army but they could become completely unmoveable if they develop proper ICBM and even MIRV in a few years.

As for south korea it is first of all a conscript army with a mainly terrestrial war with some local amphibious assaults against NK in mind so don't expect miracle if facing japan. South Korea also has no proper command structure and are completely under control of the US command should a conflict erupt. In total number they have indeed the superiority but conscript armies come at a cost.

As for France and the UK one has an aircraft carrier only 6 months a year and the other has 2 aircrafts but no planes at the moment for more than 2 years so they don't count.

Sorry it was my autisti/k/ moment from a guy with a master in the field of asian security.

>stalker
"Scavengers, Trespassers, Adventurers, Loners, Killers, Explorers, Robbers"
Scavenging is one of the core elements of S.T.A.L.K.E.R. my friend

Fukushima in particular is boring, because Fukushima is... boring. It's not like it's abandoned now because it's hazardous, it's abandoned now because there's literally no reason to move back in; there are decent swaths of Izu in the other direction that are identically abandoned once you get away from the main lines. And the terrain itself and development level is best described as Area 11 South Jersey.

Bombed-out Tokyo is a lot more cliched because it's a lot more appealing. It doesn't need a full-scale war if your setting doesn't have one, it could come from an NK tantrum after both the US and China are distracted by domestic problems. It doesn't even need a nuclear exchange at all, there are plenty of research universities to fuck up a fusion experiment. Hot and cold zones based on proximity to those universities, dozens of premade dungeons as close as a list of subway stations or major department stores, and you can both add familiar touchstones for American players and add a little uniqueness by moving the focus down toward Yokosuka.

There's also the option of rewriting Gunkanjima as a uranium mine that's "abandoned" rather than a coal mine that's abandoned, or going full folklore copypaste in Kawaguchiko/Aokigahara for an area that's very spooky and suitable to high-rads life with its natural cave network even if getting that way is unlikely.

Or maybe you actually DO want heavily-irradiated Japanese Jersey Shore. There's always gearheads vs. nerd cargo cult vs. the old men who would just welcome subsistence agriculture as a return to form after 70 years of American occupation.

I can write a few dozen pages on any of these if there's interest.

Not this user, but also noting: the SDF's rank structure is extremely top-heavy and overtrained in a way which could be justified as the Japanese bureaucracy's tendency to consume everything it touches, but is also noted by outside observers as low-key preparedness for "just add warm bodies" full national mobilization.

>If I recall correctly some survivor in the metros are former stalker.
Nah, Metro just uses the term "stalker" for people who go out onto the surface to scavenge stuff.

Here's Japanese homebrew survival TRPG.
っttp://asuwa.mistysky.net/s/Survival.htm

Were you high on some shit when you wrote that shit ?

>low-key preparedness for "just add warm bodies" full national mobilization.

Japan needs a good ol' war to have a new baby boom.

the flesh is weak. they need better robots.

>they need better robots.
>better
I'm fairly sure their salarymen are fine just as they are.
