When will we get something like HBS Battletech or MegaMek for 40k?
By which I mean a turn-based game that closely emulates tabletop. I know about Armageddon/Sanctus Reach but those only cover certain campaigns and don't follow the main 40k system, they ironically are closer to battletech, much different from 40k gameplay.

Where were we? Ah yes, Tau are the righteous protagonists of the 40K universe who seek to bring everyone into a peaceful collective ordered through mind control to purge the influence of Chaos and giving everyone purpose and meaning through a caste system. Truly the best faction.

Just got the BRB this week. Waiting for my shitty game shop to get the codex for IG and start making a list for figures to get.
This is the first army I'm building. Any advice? besides not being surprised at the horrifying fucking prices for inch-high plastic figures

Seeing as I posted this near the end of the last thread, I'll post it again in this one.
After seeing the completely shit status of the Vanquisher Cannon currently, I decided to try and work out some better stats for it.
>Vanquisher Cannon 72'' / Heavy 1d3 / S 8 / AP -5 / D 1d3+2 / This weapon always wounds VEHICLES on 2+
>Battle Cannon 72'' / Heavy 1d3+1 / S 9 / AP -2 / D 1d3+1
>Demolisher Cannon 24'' / Heavy 1d3+2 / S10 / AP -1 / D 1d3 / This weapon fires an additional 1d3 shots if the target unit numbers 5+ models.
So basically, for every 2 wounds a Demolisher does on average to a Russ, the Battle Cannon will do 3 and the Vanquisher will do 5. Meanwhile, for every 2 wounds the Vanquisher does to GEQs, the Battle Cannon will do 3 and the Demolisher will do 5.
Is this balanced, anons?
Levi Hall
>pay2win I'm not sure you understand what that means.
Logan Collins
nth for models I can't use without gimping my lists.

I've been getting shit on by Mechanicus lately. Dune Onagers erasing my tonks, Infantry getting wittled away by turn 3, and Artillery rolling super poorly, Scions getting counter deepstriked, and forced into CC, and my own retardation.
Haven't played the Codex yet though.
Alexander Hernandez
So whirlwinds, should one go with Castellen Launchers to drown folks in 2d6 shots or go with the 2d3 Vengance shots for higher armor pen?
Blake Taylor
The Tau are a good litmus test for philosophy 101 students and high schoolers. If they make you angry because you think they're morally superior to the imperium, your retarded.
Sebastian Cruz
No, fucking AP-5? its a shell not a fucking gigawatt laser. the Demolisher should do good against vehicles, its a giant shell made for anti-bunker, meaning it finds use as anti-tank as well.
Caleb Rogers

We had this discussion in another thread. The other thread came to the conclusion that the Demolisher is like a WW2 Infantry Support gun, it shouldn't be good against vehicles.
And Vanquisher can be >Vanquisher Cannon 72'' / Heavy 1d3 / S 8 / AP -4 / D 1d3+2 / This weapon always wounds non-TITANIC VEHICLES on 2+
Better?

The demolisher should have better AP than the battlecannon, its got more HE filler, a lot more.

The demolisher is a fucking siege canon.

I try, but can only measure for Inferno pistol
Colton Johnson
That's sad user, but go ahead if it makes you feel better.
Aiden Baker
Inferno pistol Seraphim and Repressor Melta Dominions are their own tear of Broken OP tier.
Hell even Immolators with humble Battle Sisters squads with either Storm Bolter spam or melta and heavy flame combo is stupidly good.
Let's not even mentions DCA and Arco-Flagellants. IG Crusaders with AoF inside Chimeras/Valks is another level of fuck you SoB can pull

It's not my fault, The only one who plays 40k near me does Ghilly and stormtalon spam They're actually counts as vostroyans Slaanesh pls go
Ethan Rogers
The thread was 2 days ago. Basically, the Demolisher is a siege cannon. Fortifications are really High Toughness, not much armour.
Basically, the Russes are like WW2 tanks, which use the following sorts of cannons.
>Large Width, Low Calibre Lobs high explosives at Infantry and Fortifications. Horrible against armour, because HE makes really bad armour penetration unless its a shaped charge.
>Small Width, High Calibre Shoots solid or shaped charges. Great against armour, shit against infantry.
So given that the Russ is based on a WW1/WW2 style tank, then the Demolisher Cannon can be equated to Cannon Number 1, whereas the Vanquisher Cannon can be equated to Cannon Number 2.
Thus the stats.

Vanq should just be higher S maybe -1 more ap
Hunter Adams
This. I'm kind of confused, as this has been mandatory in every GW shop I have played in. Is it different in a FLGS?
John Long
yes, we fucking know how shells work user, literally all but 2 of the fortifications in Index 2 have a 3+ armour save, the 2 that don't can't shoot back.
So they would need high AP to get through that, they also have a shitload of wounds, so you need like D6 damage to do good damage to them.
for these reasons the demolisher has to be good against vehicles to be good against fortifications, as they share the same general stats.
Matthew Gonzalez
Why are artillery carriages $100 a fucking pop, what the fuck forgeworld
Isaac Davis
I just realized something small that was missing from the GK codex that would've made them a bit better...Master Crafting and Digital Weapons.
Also the Daemonic Adversaries table.
Ayden Bennett
That looks so sad. Not that I can actually judge but damn
Adrian Garcia
Because FW is fucking cruel. Vulture is the cost of two Valkyries.
Luke Robinson
Maybe 3+ BS against VEHICLE and MONSTER
William Young
NuGW thinks FW are to cheap. Have you seen the price for some of the new stuff? FW almost seem fair by comparison
Wyatt Phillips
Vanq doesn't need higher strength when it wounds on 2+. And AP -5 is too high.
I see your point. I'll work out something different.
BS increase against VEHICLES and MONSTERS doesn't make sense. Increased chance to wound does.
Also, it would be able to take Beast Hunter Shells again, with the following profile. >Vanquisher Cannon 72'' / Heavy 1d3 / S 8 / AP -4 / D 1d3+2 / This weapon always wounds non-TITANIC MONSTERS on 2+
Eli Howard
Just take the heavy mortar/earthshaker bits and kitbash carriages with some wheels and tow trailer thingies?
Gabriel Gutierrez
Or reroll 1 But realistically all that can be done to fix it by gw is cut the point cost in chapter approved
Noah Wilson
I meant to improve the current vanq stat line not homebrew that will never be used
Jeremiah Roberts
>72'' range >better AP than melta god some of you people are terrible at balance
Parker Thomas
My store just posted some new rules on its not page. I play guard. Help.
>If your army has 1 or more guard detachments, you go second. If both armies do, the person with the least amount of guard detachments guess first. If there is a tie, roll off as normal. >For purposes of determining a spot more than nine inches away from enemy units to deploy via special rule, conscripts don't count as enemy units. >Commisars can only shoot one friendly model per morale phase. If they use the ability, it stops functioning until the beginning of the next turn >All units in your army with the regiment keyword must have the same regiment. >brigade detachments are banned for everybody
This feels like it came out of left field. There's been a lot of resentment towards guard players at our store because they've won a lot of games, but nothing that I thought would provoke this kind of response. What do I do?
Grayson Diaz
>its got more HE filler, a lot more
Bigger hammer doesn't go through a plate of steel any better, it just makes a bigger dent.

End of nid turn one Nothing really has happened so far except for termies killing the warriors and holding against ~10 genestealers in cc I'm being ridiculed by neckbeards this must be a new low for me. It is a lot quicker though
Jackson Sullivan
Any chances of Chapter Approved actually changing rules?
Dominic Jackson
Maybe play a less OP army faggot. Dust off your scat bikes or something you WAACfag
Ian Torres
That sounds like Faction Racism (tm). Is this going to be the newest social justice fad people will riot over?
Luke Baker
does if there is more force behind it. plus that bigger dent causes a lot of spalling, which fucks up the crew inside.
Jordan Mitchell
I agree that Commissar's should only get to use their ability for one friendly squad per morale phase. But, the rest is a bit nuts. Though, rest smells like bait. Hilariously, my army would do just fine, Mech Guard ftw, fluffy and somewhat effective while not spooking everyone away.
Michael Flores
I'm hoping this is just a troll. Not even during Tau and Eldar broken tier times during 7th did people got so angry about an army.
It is Guard for fuck sake. If you can't table them by turn 3, you need to get good.
Aiden Robinson
A commisar not giving 120 conscripts all fearless and uniform regiments doesn't seem outlandish to me. Conscripts being massive space fillers was another legitimate issue. Don't see the point of the brigade bit though
Leo Harris
Mind posting a list? I want to do Guard with a few infantry squads and some scions, love to see what you have
Easton Richardson
it only seems sad because theres a TV there. Once I finish my 2nd army im going to be doing this to learn the quirks of the units im going to be fielding before i get curbstomped and come here crying about WAAC
James Adams
>My store just posted some new rules
time to find a new store.
Cameron Sanchez
>guard always goes second This should almost always happen anyway. >only 1 regiment per army mixing regiments is dumb anyway >conscripts don't block deepstrike that's retarded >brigades are banned ...why? Guard can fill brigades easily, sure, but that comes at the expense of going first.
This is either bait or you need to pee on your store.
Evan Morales
It's easy to write Tau lore, you simply emphasize their superior tactics, adaptability, resistance to Chaos, and weaponry. In all honesty, as written, the Tau are untouchable gods who can only be challenged by the other plebian factions due to being so small in size. We just need a lore writer to bring a few more Septs into existence from a thousand year warp storm so the Age Of Tau can begin.
Jordan Sanchez
Let's deconstruct what makes this so sad, shall we? 1) College Dorm room. user is too poor, or doesn't have any friends to split the cost with, so has to stay on campus. 2) Waste basket. Full of used tissues... no girls for user (or guys. Whatever) 3) Two (2) tubes of AXE products. Used exclusively by tools, or virgins trying to emulate tools, in a vain attempt to get snatch 4) Desk Right next to bed (pillow in the shot). Even though Anons Chad roommate is almost never in the room, because he is out slaying puss, user still feels pressured to take as little space as possible (Continued)
Jayden Lee
no, because IG are basically the FUCKING WYTE MALE of the hobby now
Grayson Hughes
>mixing regiments is dumb anyway Even though that always happens in the fluff?
Joseph Reyes
What are these people going to do when Eldar and Nids release and they turn out to be even stronger?
Jack Watson
>the virgin warhammer
Daniel Gonzalez
Yet doesn't penetrate.
It's like people who insist that power mauls should have the lowest AP, because "muh historical use against armoured opponents".
Zachary Morris
>If you can't table an army that can field more models than is possible to kill in 6 turns, you suck.
Jordan Long
Eldar no, Nids yes.
Henry Cox
harsh man, I think its more he should have some cool background 40k related on the TV for some depth to the field instead of blankscreen
Carson Nelson
Fair point, but kind of, yes. Given the game's smaller scale compared to the formations in the fluff it kind of dilutes your army's theme and idiom to mix lots of regiments together.
Adrian Rodriguez
>Anyone who unironically thinks the big e wasn't Hitler is a fool That's why I always liked the Imperium. It's pretty much a futuristic Hitler doing the best for his people.
Leo Moore
>Eldar no proofs?
Justin Moore
Get fucked. Now you too will feel the wrath of all the bitches who can't handle your favorite army being good, as they scream about anyone using them being WAACfags despite the fact you've played the army for years. Taste the suffering of all the Tau and Eldar who you laughed at through the years. The Greater Good has prevailed.
