"Hey user! Wanna see this homebrew I made?"

>"Hey user! Wanna see this homebrew I made?"
>"Sure? What is it?"
>"It's a game about running a kingdom!"
>"Oh so it's like REIGN?"
>"Never heard of it. Take a look at what I made!"
>It's just D&D but with two new abilities, Sense and Appearance
>The actual kingdom building rules are a clusterfuck?
>"Health" is the amount of Gold a kingdom has
>It loses GP when attacked but makes no clear distinction on what being 'attacked' means, like is it storehouses being raided or nobles being extorted or what?
>Calculating the bonus to attacking is some kind of insane arrythmatic logic where every 500 soldiers nets you +1 to your attack or something like that.
>There's only a few situational modifiers that just describe shit like attacking from high ground or a forest and nothing like Guerrilla warfare or city battles.
>If your PC fighter participates in a fight it's a +2 bonus with no distinction on level meaning a level 1 fighter helping in a battle is the same as a level 20 fighter.
>For some insane reason when Wizards participate in mass combat all of their spells are maximized and extended??? No elaboration on what certain spells do just that they're maximized and extended

I'm ok with D&D existing as a game and people playing it but if there's one thing that continues to trigger me it's "game designers" who've only played ONE GAME and think they're gloriously innovative for putting a round block on the ground and callling it "the wheel".

Soo, just to be clear Op did you make this up or encounter it or what?

Considering REIGN isn’t very good either there isn’t a lot of room to bitch in your fake story.

This happens enough that I'm inclined to believe OP even if this is a waste of a thread

Nice blog post

And then everyone on the bus applauded!

Yeah this has been happening since the mid-1970s. Deal with it.

Me too.

God I wish I could find someone to play REIGN with.
It looks like a blast.

Come on user, you can't just mention a system without posting the PDF.

>Reign
>not Birthright
You really have no right to talk shit about the other guy's work when you haven't even done any research.

Is Birthright really better than Reign?

I don't know, how about you post PDFs of both so I can find out?

To my recollection Birthright worked well enough, but it was ages ago since played it so I may have my nostalgia-glasses on.

They are still there.

They are still around.

>They are still there

A lot of the really fun ones died due to lack of audience after being split from the player base.

>waste of a thread
You say that as if there's anything relevant being posted at all. We're effectively /v/-tier as far as board quality is concerned.

It's really hard to find birthright.net (I have no idea if it's still the only D&D setting with its own website, but I suspect that's the case).

birthright.net/forums/downloads.php

I don't have the original (AD&D) rules scanned, but that's probably not really important unless you're hankering for some THAC0.

Just point him to ACKS

>Hey look at this game I built!
>It's just DnD with different classes

I've played a lot of homebrrews and they were all bad, but your point is well taken, as the absolute worst of them were always just a fucked up port of the d20 system.

I see it as a litmus test. If someone is designing a game and basing it on d20, that's like someone telling me they made spagetti sauce, and they have bought sauce in a jar and added stuff to it. This is proff you have no idea what you're doing, and no real sense of how to cook, because if you did, you would have just made your own sauce and known that would taste better almost by default.

Trust me when I say these people NEVER get better. They'll play ten games, and all that means is that their shitty, mechanically dubious ideas now take from multiple sources instead of one.

It gets even better if you help them once, and they decide you are now part of their team or whatever and try to include you in any future projects without asking you.

Pretty sure the last part is only me,
but FUCK that.
