Code of Conduct

My character has to have a code of conduct but I'm hard pressed to come up with ideas honestly, most of them are just dont murder.

so far I've got
- Never kill another human being
- Never harm a woman unless in self defense
- Share my fortune with the less fortunate

but those all seem pretty meh.

I'm going to be playing a cop in a modern day game with magic, think "Death Valley" but more serious.

Maybe the code could involve service to others? It's your duty to help and not neglect those in need, to a fault even. Where others would leave your enemy to die you may tend to their wounds. Duty.

>cop
>code of conduct
>don't murder

o i am laffin

Protect even those you hate, as long as it is right.

Get out of here Jamal

i know, i too like to play unrealistic characters

youngs of all races must be protected and nurtured(even animals)

You character is shit
>don't kill
>don't harm woman unless in self defense
So harming men in not-self defense is A-OK?

Not practical: Sometimes you have to kill the villain to preserve "innocent" lives, and sometimes the villain(s) identify as female/women.

Just be the by the book cop.

copypast current official definition of human rights

oh alright tumblr, sorry about that

Do you also play Kangz?

bump

Maybe focus on stuff that you /should/ do, rather than shouldn't.

Like, do you have any religious rules? Any rules about cleanliness and purity? Any times when you HAVE to help others or enact justice?

Dunno if it helps, but I played a LE assassin in not one but 2 campaigns. He had a very strict code of conduct, and he was easily my favorite character:

>Do not lie
This was built into his backstory where he was a slave and branded by his owner for lying. He may deceive or not tell the whole truth at times, but I made sure that every word he spoke was true to the best of my abilities. This was fun because half the time people didn't believe me anyway, but at the same time the rest of the party would freak out because I told someone something they thought was important, which was usually his name. We were wanted for quite some time, so they would all give false names. Meanwhile, I'd brazenly give my real one and not make a big deal out of it.

>Slavery is bad
As a former slave, he obviously is not a fan. Someone in the party argued that me fighting against slavery was good thing, not an evil thing, but the DM had to remind them that my way of "fighting slavery" usually involved deliberately slow and painful murder. He would give the slaves the chance at freedom, but he wouldn't hand them their lives. This also extended to souls. He refused to trade in souls after his own experience, which he worked through most of a campaign to earn back.

>Always finish a contract
Rather simple, but he believed in keeping his word.

Look up a police code of conduct and read it as the commandments handed down by a cult a hundred years later, follow those and make up your own reasons you think you have to.

>your hands and their contents are tools of creation, not destruction. let them only give, not take away. (don't kill/steal)
>happiness is key to a healthy existence, and helping others always creates more happiness than helping yourself. (help people obviously)
>one should never give with the sole expectation of receiving in kind (be reasonable with givings, also don't be a money lender)

Idfk make something up

thats why op is here dipshit

Hi Kaladin

I created a weirdly complex nice guy on the outside, greedy asshole on the inside character long time ago.

1. Wants money and always go for the bigger amount within reach, promises can be good but are ultimately meaningless if they don't keep it, go for the more trustworthy/honorable client if the other is too much of a risk.
2. While you can do a lot with money it isn't as valuable as time, your own health and the health of others that you can use can be worth more in the long run.
3. Speaking of others you have a very limited time to be alive and even if you were immortal you have better things to do than to learn which herbs grow in a place you will realistically never go to or such. People who shown knowledge/skill/abilities/etc that you can not recreate yourself should be kept alive and is worth a ton. Life can't be taken back and knowledge is power. Age, health and how much gold is being offered though are all factors. All about that risk/reward.
4. People who lack skills may end up learning some on their own time so for the sake of risk/reward of how valuable they may become if given the choice at no real cost then sparing/helping should always be the goal as they may see it as owing you due to it. Even if gold can't be pay on the spot helping others can still get you to their good side and having others owing you can always cause a domino effect that might end up giving huge payouts. Giving an old apple to a slum kid while unlikely may turn into a pile of riches with the only cost being a fruit that was going bad anyway. Being nice can also help your reputation for when you end up doing not so nice things and are caught red handed.
6. Exception to being nice is when speaking the truth. Saying what you know is much easier then remembering all of the lies. Best case people will see you as a "true friend" because of it, worst case they will hate you but otherwise treat you naturally and leave you alone.

I wanted someone who was greedy but not to the point of killing everyone he sees over it. The character turn out extremely real because of it though. At the end of the day people only have friends for the sake of themselves. May it be as simple as having someone to talk to or going as far as having connections later down the road.

Also sorry about the numbering, there was a number 5 but for the sake of summing it all up for a Veeky Forums post I combined it with number 4. Overall that was the character in a nutshell and every choice I made in the game follow those rules with as little bias I could possibly do. At the end of the day I'm just roleplaying a character and while he may be cold and logical I as the player may choose to pick favorites even if subconsciously. Nevertheless I felt I did a pretty good job and most people saw him as an extremely nice guy and never caught on.

Never violate a woman, or harm a child. Do not lie, cheat or steal. These things are for lesser men. Protect the weak from the evil strong and never allow thoughts of gain to lead you into the pursuit of evil. Either fight or surrender. It is not enough to say I will not be evil, evil must be fought wherever it is found.
