Obviously Norse.

Slavic, make them devotees of Chernobog

A while back someone linked a custom Russian arms manufacturer corp. Anyone still have the PDF?

yee

Is playing a luddite viable? I'm considering a character, probably and elf, who thinks that Matrix was the worst invention ever and refuses to interact with it any more than is necessary (I agree with him). He'd have a good commlink for communication and light browsing, but other than that he'd want to rid matrix connectivity from all of his gear.

The thing I'm wondering about is exactly how legal and how feasible such a plan would be. For example, removing wireless from one's vehicle or firearms might be illegal or expensive, and combustion engine cars are likely pretty damn rare and gas prices are probably through the roof. And how big of an endeavour would removing wireless from clothing, devices at home, the home itself, etc etc

Proteus AG. The entire conceit behind Proteus is that they have spies in every major corporation and organization. They spend their time stealing the research and prototypes of others, then combining them in ways that no one has ever considered. They are thus considered to potentially have the best technology in the world. Canonically they have departments that have made advancements in antimatter reactors, human bio-drones, consciousness transference, and teleportation. They are also considered to be ahead of the curve when it comes to combining magic and technology, it helps when your (former) CEO was a great dragon.

In short, Proteus AG is just about the only corp when making a Prototype Transhuman CFD Drake SURGE shadowrunner makes sense.

Getting "throwbacks" for everything is possible. You will however need a comlink to broadcast your (fake) SIN. You might want nothing to do with the Matrix, but the rest of the world doesn't care.

Embrace the ludditism. Go sword & board with a backup bow. You won't be as capable as the rest of the team, but any good GM will give you bonus karma for staying in character despite the nerf.

As far as i know most countries want you to broadcast your SIN (or one of them).

You could go down the reenactment actor route "Well of course that piece doesn't have an RFID, it's a piee od history"

Source?

It's in the 'Shock Waves' 4th edition supplement. It does not appear to be in the MEGA, so you will have to track it down.

Try here: yumpu.com/en/document/view/5827258/shadowrun-shockwaves-shadowrun-rpg

Here it is for people who don't like registering funny places.

...

Should the Enemy negative quality supposed to be rolled once a session? Or should I just play it by ear?

IIRC you roll it once per run

Play it so that it's worth it's karma value compared to other negative qualities, and that if the PC has a full 25 karma list of negative qualities, they still only get penalised for 25 karma's worth.

Regarding binding spirits, is there something I'm missing in the rules or something? There's a very low chance of successfully binding a spirit regardless of how many dice you're rolling because the limit works against you, and then you take buckets of drain and spend thousands on reagents even if you fail. Is there a way to use extra reagents to increase the limit, or do you just have to spend a point of edge and hope?

nah, just dumb limits. Keep in mind that summoning also has this.
If you try to summon a F1 Spirit and have a 15 dice pool you have a 67% chance of summoning him (which will then only have one service). But summoning a F6 spirit with that same pool has a 88% chance of succeeding (after which he owes you on average two services)

Going by the CRB you can use Reagents to bump up your limit in Summoning Tests, but for Binding it only says that you have to spend Reagents to bind the spirit. I personally would allow you to use Reagents to set your limit in Binding Tests as well

But don't forget that F-1 spirits literally disappear when the background changes at all.

With some GMs that can mean that your spirit will go away as soon somebody kills a chicken.

>With some GMs that can mean that your spirit will go away as soon somebody kills a chicken.
Or as soon as someone gets highly emotional. PMS == minor anti-spirit field.

In general i'd suggest that you try to summon F3 spirits if you need to call one, lesser ones are basically magical plankton and rodents.
They also get one, possible neat, extra trick with F3

Inject k-10 into two roosters and have them fight to death, maybe let a PETA member watch.

Also stream the thing online and place bets. Money and Spirit protection for you.

My actual plan was to summon F6 ones and just not bind them. That seems like a significantly more useful expenditure of time. If I need another one, I can just summon another one.

Plus, I can use all the reagents I saved to blow the limit on F1 Heal spells for instant massive heals rather than shitty slow sustained ones. Or, potentially, just summon a Health spirit and make him heal stuff for me.

Reagents are weird.

Thats a totally valid plan for your mentioned purposes.

Binding usually happens tu lean new spells or use any long term service.

But using F6 and above spirits for your usual combat needs is pretty cheesy and can easily lead to an escalation of force between you and the gm.
Try ONE F3 at the start and check how deep the water is/what the DM throws at your group. As long as no PC goes into overflow it's fine, the spirit can be destroyed.

Thats the reason why i play as party clay and enabler of my group.

>I need to see magic !
Here have a sticker for that
>I need to go faster
Have a sticker
>we are out of explosives.
Sticker !
>My GF left me
...I heard BTL porn is supposed to be nice I'm a shaman, not a sociopath

As long as you keep in mind you can only have one summoed and not-bound spirit out at the same time, you'll be fine.

Please. Any semi-decent combat character will be way more efficitient at killing shit than a F6 Spirit.

Sure, if you ho all the way and go MAG7 Spirit Whisperer Edging a F15 Spirit into the fight, then your GM will want to murder you.

But nothing will be as cheap, quick and sturdy than a spirits, add to that some bullshit powers like animal control.
Even if it dies, just call another one.

Also i said, test the water, adjust to the situation. If the GM says there will be an ares roadmaster with 2 HMG mounted one controlled by a rigger you should whip out the biggest spirit you can.

What's the biggest red herring your party ever fell for? How did it end?

My last character refused to use DNI because he was afraid of AIs hijacking his mind

Ho got a point, also I'm still wondering what happened to the nano robot dragon.
Did he just disassemble to rain down on people and make them head cases ?

Playing a parrot shifter and so far i'm doing fine with just a commlink and a drone to carry spare clothes for me.

Neat, I always like seeing homebrew

He was living with the children of the dragon near Salem as of the Lockdown book ending. At least according to the file that AJ decrypted (and ended up getting killed for)

Oh okay, i won't even try to wrap my head around that.

It makes more sense when you read it. The nano dragon went mad because of the personalities warring in his mind, the children managed to stop him thanks to Damon's years long manipulation of the mana in Salem to atune it to dragon magic, which the children use.

So Damon saved the world. Pretty good for a Dragon party fiend.

I'm still not over the fact that romani get to roll 14-20 dice to resist drain, while all other traditions get around 10-14.

What is the secret od their gyspy magic ?

Some of this stuff is good, and some of it's kinda bad.
Why the hatecock for awakened, omae?

too cool for magic school

Could you imagine being magical AND getting effective cyberlimbs for no essence?

Maybe because they can replace every other archetype? Including rigger, drone spirits aren't much of a strecht anymore and vehicle spirits are a thing. Now mages can summon the spirit of BRRRRRRRRT if they want.

What nationality should I make my military as fuck supersoldier?
Chinese, russian, and american are all super tempting.

South African. The Rhodesians never gave up their fight to reclaim their homeland and went full Universal Soldier.

goddamnit there's too many good superpowers and tin-pot dictatorships to choose from.

How do you get those numbers? They roll WIL+WIL, which is bullshit because they only need to bump up one stat to max, but WIL for metavariants tops out at 7, meaning 14 dice at most, 16 with Exceptional Attribute. fuck pixies

Lots of things have INT, LOG, or CHA above 6, some up to 8, and those things are easier to increase with drugs/ware.

Lady Han Solo?

Seriously man do it, just so you can call people you dont like Kafirs.

Throw in some transhumanism narco and zen frugs and you are at 20.

It's not like you need any other stats.

Zen only gives +1 WIL, though.

Increase Attribute (Spirit). Rating 4 bound sustaining foci.

Now they have 6-8+4, x2. So 16-22 die to resist, straight out of chargen.

Wait, why did I type Spirit? I mean willpower.

You are right but the narco genemod makes a+2 out of that. And because drain for romani is wil+wil you end up wit 4 additional dice to resist drain.

10/10 would pay essence for that.

>Spirit
You mean WIL?
>Rating 4 bound sustaining foci.
Wrong. The force of the Spell has to be equal to the Current Augmented Attribute value. So if you start with WIL 6 you have to take a Force 6 Sustaining Focus, which costs you 12 Karma to bind

So they can have 26 die in total to resist drain shortly after chargen ?

You could halve like 4 magic and still be a pretty decent mage, just overcast the shit out of everything.

I know.
Pic related.

Excellent point, my bad.

Good point.

But Romani are still the übermages.

That is the dumbest fucking shit.

You never wanted to play a Halloweener mage, summoning flaming motorcycles out of thin air, and driving up the side of arcologies hurling Molotov cocktails?

Not like a hermetic can't get Cerebral Boosters and start popping Cereprax (or the good old psyche+zen speedball), or increasing attributes of their own.

Romani are stupid because they break the Stat+WIL formula for no reason, not because they are entirely beyond anything anyone else can get to (though they are easier to minmax).

No, because the first time a player summons a vehicle spirit, it's going to ram them at Speed = Force.
You tame that shit in the wild.

Yeah but a hermetic mage won't get double the payoff for those things.

Yey, yes it is. Even more so if you consider the shit you can pull with some more awakened of your tradition and some reagents.

>it's going to ram them at Speed = Force.
why would it?

You'd think they'd be charisma based

so i could summon a tank with super sonic speed and make it ram shit ?

I would have gone INT, personally. Spiritual tradition based around understanding the natural world and reading the signs there.

Something like that would be force 20+, but sure. Thing would look spooky as fuck though, vehicle spirits don't have Realistic Form.

As long as you recognize that it wants your blood.

So the mighy, screaming super sonic skelleton tank wants my blood, i'm fine with that in general, but why does it want it ?

Because you summoned it.
It was in a plane of war. You removed it from it's war.
Now you die so it can go back to war.

The scariest thing about Vehicle Spirits seems to be that their native plane is... Earth.

From a mechanical stand point I think that makes them immune to banishment.

From a metaphysical stand point, it's calls the very nature of reality into question.

Good thing it's from the plane of war, a war needs group and i just got the perfect enemy group on hand.

So what heppens if i summon a Harvester from the plane of harvesting? Only that i used a ritual so it's a F20+ spirits and can harvest buildings ?

That makes no fucking sense.
It's not like i can summon a carriage spirits, sword spirit or hoe spirit.
What the fuck cgl.

I may be wrong about it, but I can find no reference that vehicle spirits originate anywhere else but Earth. They're a naturally occuring feature of the Gaia sphere.

Which I thought was impossible.

I'm thinking of playing a sort of thiefy dude. Smart prints, voice modulation, false face, retinal duplication, all that shit. Impersonating dudes, fooling biometric scanners and making security look dumb.

The only question is, will I just get fucked by MAD scanners? Because noticing ware is relatively easy, and once you realize the dude has a bionic face the entire gimmick more or less goes to shit.

Spirits by definition are metaplanar beings.

Most cyberware has a bioware equivalent which is invisible to MAD scanners. For the stuff that's missing, use magic.

Exactly my point.

Well first of all you play as a TEAM, so there should be a decker or TM to help you with those.

On the other hand there are nano machines and bioware for your needs, as far as i know nano hives don't trigger MAD scanners or you can handwave them as "old war wounds" or whatever.

Also Cyberware is pretty much a given in the 6th world, so triggering a MAD scanner won't be a problem. When they find out your implanted shotgun was the reason, that's a problem but not Cybereyes.

Also most GMs i know handle it so that things build into other cyberware isn't visible unless used or the cyberware is taken apart.

I understand that the world doesn't care, which is why I'm asking if it's even legal to have a vehicle that is permanently offline.

Probably not, but why not just get a fake license?

Because no way in hell am I driving a vehicle that comes with matrix bullshit and can be hacked.

This is why false face is useless. Sure, you can look like anyone, but most basic security measures will instantly notice you have a fucking play-dough face.

No, I mean a fake license for your nongridguide throwback car. There's still gotta be auto collectors and shit even in 2075.

This time biweekly work? sagehoge #7029

I want to start a show maybe? who knows. IF los Angeles runs with p2.0 sounds good hit me up. or you can gm.

There's probably laws against driving an offline car on a public roadway. They want everyone using GridGuide, because it's traceable.

You can't get a license for something which is illegal (F rated).

Not if it's magical. Awakened characters win again.

That's my point, it's more likely to be Restricted than Forbidden. I mean, people drive classic cars and collect still.

Collecting, sure. Driving in public? Eeeeh, not so sure.

The point is that they can't be naturally occuring on Gaia, because spirits don't naturally occur on this metaplane. They come from somewhere else, and look like vehicles while they are here.

I've seen plenty of street legal (refurbished) classic cars, driven past them too.

Awesome, thanks chummer. I'm thinking of running a campaign in Moscow sometime.

Get a horse

You mustn't be afraid to dream a little bigger, darling

To be fair I wouldn't be surprised if they were illegal too.
Probably fixed to appear on the grid. Why would the authorities allow cars in public they couldn't shut down with a remote command? They're even thinking about doing that in EU as we speak, why the fuck wouldn't soulless politicians just push it through in a distant dystopian future?
