There is still very much a lot of rage about it. Widespread hate. Mentioning it outside of the general thread usually will become a tide of shitposting about it.
However it has an ever growing community and enjoying more and more success. It would be considered a success.
Ryan Cook
>What's the general perspective on this game now? Eternal beta-server for 40k updates
Hudson Evans
WTH? Age of Sigmar is already a succes? I wish to see more and more pre AoS games like Total War or Vermintide. Hell, imagine a Shadow of Mordor tier game with orcs as a bretonnian knight.
James Nguyen
Well total war warhammer is a resounding success as well. Which has brought up a few cases of clashing between the 2 fandoms.
GW tries to capitalize on TWWH success by showing them minis of the units from the game, but those facebook posts are flooded with bitching from ex-whfb fans berating GW for killing the old world.
Really wha'ts happening is the whfb fans found a place where they could bitch and be welcome, because generally everywhere else the hate is not echoed as much.
Tyler Roberts
It's not a very good game. You are better off playing Kings of War if you want something more in line with WHFB, and something like Malifaux if you want fantasy skirmish that is actually good.
David Ramirez
Pretty much. 40K is simply a better game in its current state, and enjoys much more support.
Oliver King
I just miss muh old world. Also how come theres not a single warhammer/40k hollywood movie?
Michael Bailey
>It would be considered a success.
Jayden Rivera
After points were added, a big success financially for GW, the amount of which took them by a bit of surprise.
Its rules tend to be a test ground for 40k to adopt if they are well received. Very deadly and swingy game on the tabletop, there are many super critical events that happen on a d6 roll off, like initiative. Less competitive more fluffy with big monsters lots of heroes and troops. A hobbyist's game with many model options just free so you can look like what you want.
Lore wise the old world is an exploded husk being mined for life-ore by an old god of barbarians who's grudgingly taken up the mantle of zeus (and it doesn't quite fit). It's very much mythological fantasy now of godbeasts and impossible heroes and trials - and not so much 'normal dudes fighting a losing battle vs chaos'.
Online everyone hates stormcast (AoS popular pushed army marines) and whines to no end about AoS, but in person it's quite different, with people in most of the communities I've heard of being pretty friendly and just happy to play. The most toxic neckbeards shuffled off to play other games when they killed WFB, and honestly that's the best thing that could have happened.
Jaxson Green
>The most toxic neckbeards shuffled off to play other games when they killed WFB, and honestly that's the best thing that could have happened.
Aiden Johnson
It's the other way round, you cant perceive this if you are one though.
Jordan Anderson
Like I said, it's a pretty polarizing game. Hates will deny it being a success. Fans of it will claim the old world and game is better off dead.
Really the best thing you can do is give it a shot. If you enjoyed it, and the others who do so as well seem like some cool dudes, then get into it. It has a lot more tactical depth than initially meets the eye. One of those easy to learn but hard to master things.
If you don't like it, but there is a big presence of KoW or 9th age or whatever, then go play that instead.
Evan Lewis
>However it has an ever growing community and enjoying more and more success. >After points were added, a big success financially for GW, I have to ask for citation anons (or should I say pakis).
Zachary Gomez
>doubleturns >depth

What am I looking at here.
Jaxson Green
that one's pretty common knowledge. their financial reports are public, the screenshots of which became a meme for awhile, shareholder user gave us slides and bulletpoints from the shareholder meeting, and furthermore the info is pretty googleable.
Justin Morgan
I miss the old rank and file but to be honest I like AoS. Was disgruntled for awhile but a buddy pulled me into playing and to be honest the rules are quick, light, and cinematic. It's fun for what it is which seems to be very high fantasy game. Overall though a fun game
I do understand the anger it has received though. I mean people got really attached to the old world and the battles within it. They got attached to characters and lore you know? Plus they put money into their rank and file armies. Me as an old high elf player especcially has seem minis essentially and the race I loved in a sense shattered,
All I gotta say though is see if you can't get a demo-game and form your own opinion. I play AoS (Waiting for elves) but I also play kings of war with my old elven minis.
William Davis
AoS acivity in Germany. And here is AoS acitivity in France >their financial reports are public, And they says nothing about AoS. >, shareholder user gave us slides and bulletpoints from the shareholder meeting Yeah and on the last meeting they refuse to answer about details of AoS success, but said a lot about 40k.
Ryan Kelly
>steampunk >mythological fantasy It's just moba user.
Kayden Torres
I don't see what is wrong with that. It is an easily accessible aesthetic, and bringing the hobby to new people is a good thing. Plenty of people have gotten into fantasy video games thanks to League of Legends and the like, and teaching those people to enjoy fantasy miniatures is a good thing in my book.
Alexander James
>I don't see what is wrong with that. Of course it's your job to sell stuff for kids. >Plenty of people have gotten into fantasy video games thanks to League of Legends >enjoy fantasy miniatures It's no more fantasy than Marvel Avengers models from McDonalds.
Ryder James
Two words. Baller. As. Fuck. > ib4 that's 3 words lel lol !!!!!1! Because AoS is too baller for your faggot ass rules, faggot. Git gud. Play this game or get the fuck out

>I just miss muh old world. I honestly do too. But I can understand why they wanted to start from scratch with a new setting, it gives them plenty of opportunities to expand and grow. The old world was great and fleshed out really well, but it was very limiting. Now there is a lot of opportunity to create an ever progressing story, and for players to have more freedom for creating 'your dudes' as it were.
Of course it can be argued they went too far with changing the setting, but the new setting has a lot of creative potential that is slowly being discovered. As they release more fiction and supplements for it, it's actually shaping up tot be pretty cool. Still got a long way to go before it hits warhammer fantasy level of depth, but that had 20+ years on this. Give it time.
Dylan Jackson
It has a very, very defensive fanbase, but overall it's disliked. According to all numbers from outside of GW it isn't doing very well either.
Tyler Hall
>but it was very limiting TOP KEK That's why they never expand setting into East and Southlands? >but the new setting has a lot of creative potential Such as..?
Caleb Parker
Do these indicate low activity? High activity? Is this showing the whole year, or just a few months? What's the average number of events for a game per month?
Genuinely interested.
Eli Brooks
>Now there is a lot of opportunity to create an ever progressing story
I would argue that without limits a story is meaningless.
>and for players to have more freedom for creating 'your dudes' as it were
I would also argue that without actual flavour, character, and, yes, limiting factors, you're actually going to be less creative when making 'your dudes'. Creating a place for your dudes in the world is also pretty meaningless if the world is an infinite mess of nonsensical un-geography.
Thomas Myers
>Is this showing the whole year, or just a few months? 12 mounths. Here is 40k Oct-Nov
Robert Smith
Oh wow, that is pretty fucking pathetic then. Jesus.
What's stuff like Warmahordes and Infinity looking like?
Jackson Martinez
just play 40k. it has a bigger variety of Space Marines than AoS
Isaac Stewart
>I play AoS (Waiting for elves) they're Aelves now. copyright and all that.
Connor Rogers
>What's stuff like Warmahordes and Infinity looking like? user posted only AoS, 40k and T9A
Parker Long
It's a good game with a smaller and easier rulebook for new players. I do miss the old game, which of course can still be played, and the only thing about the lore I don't like is that GW never got around to the rest of the Warhammer world before destroying it. Would have been cool to see what they did with Australia, the rest of Africa, and East Asia
Luke Long
Playing AoS is like playing ALEPH in Infinity (except without the solid game mechanics and amazing models, I guess).
>"gee whizz, look at how varied and fantastical this setting/faction could be, the possibilities are endless!" >every fucking release is just more homoerotic power armoured Greeks >"Fuck."
Levi Johnson
I play AoS but elves will always be elves. No mateer how hard GW tries to change that shit.
Like "aeldari" for example.
Blake Bennett
I have next to no personal experience of it but one of my wfbg-mates swears that it's a fun game and the peeps I've seen playing it seems to enjoy themselves. I've only played a small and hasty trial game. I wasn't a fan of the slimmed down magic phase and the piling up of individual models instead of units in formation crashing into other units in formation.
John Reyes
Well, cool.
Enjoy your darkshard bleakspear nightslashers.
William Sanders
But user, I haven't installed Radious' mod.

Come off it mate, we've all seen the sales charts for wargames, they're reposted over and over in these threads. AoS fell out of the top five position ages ago.
And there's event data in this thread.
Sebastian Moore
Now I know people are gonna call mea buthhurt neckbeard for not liking it, but there's just nothing for me to get my teeth sunk into for AoS. I'm not a fan of Space Marines, or the Warcraft-esque high fantasy designs that the new models have been getting. Give me a bunch of humans constrained by their borders and surrounded by horror and I'm happy; give me infinite worlds being fought over by demigods on all sides and suddenly it's hard to give a shit.
I'm not really down with how the rules played out (admittedly, that was back when it was released), I liked the big unit blocks and flanking, the comparing of stats to represent your strengths and weaknesses.
People are free to like AoS, but I've yet to find anything about it that appeals to me.
Luke Torres
It depends on your region, really. AoS may not be as big worldwide as 40k, but it's there. California for example has a pretty strong presence with frequent tournaments with ITC support. There was quite a turnout at the LVO, and it looks like this next one is going to be bigger. The AoS fans Facebook group is among my most active groups I follow, and there are a lot of reports of different people playing the game.
It's dead in areas, sure, but I am willing to bet it's alive in enough to warrant GW continuously supporting the product and range. On top of this their responding and listening to player feedback.
Sure when you compare it to 40k it seems abysmal in terms of coverage, but there's enough of it there.
Really it's not hurting anyone if it's growing, so I don't see the point in trying to destroy or heckle any community forming up around it. People will play what they want and like. This goes for both sides.
Tyler Hill
>GW continuously supporting the product and range. >1,5 releases per season
>. On top of this their responding and listening to player feedback. >shooting-magic meta isn;t fixed
Isaac Miller
They did listen when people complained about maps and changed from more artistic to more natural ones.
Here is bits of Chamon from the Khararon Overlords battletome.
Evan Phillips
Its Planescape with a Olympian Gods level of narrative where the gods are directly involved in conflicts and they war for control of different dimensions based on the winds of magic.
So suffice to say the tone of the setting is dramatically different than WHFB, even if theres now a focus on the little guys just surviving in recent fluff.
Julian Rodriguez
Truth >Older/tournament players in the WHFB tournament scene were who left >Excellent players, laid back, and friendly the best group of wargamers I ever gamed with were on the Grand Tournament circuit some for more than a decade. >Would buy new armies every year or two and fully paint and convert because they are not poorfags. > Most either quit or jumped to other games >But angry neckbeards don't want to play retard level not Spaaace Muhrines! >MFW
Miniatures are great game is terrible.
Daniel Jones
They also listened when people complained about there not being enough focus on the regular humans and mortals of the realms. Lately pretty much everything has been focused around the free peoples and cities.
Jordan Anderson
>The most toxic neckbeards shuffled off to play other games when they killed WFB, and honestly that's the best thing that could have happened. This really, our AoS group was compromised of casuals, roleplayers and newcomers. Zero dark elf players.
Blake Morris
I think unless some big name Hollywood director/actor pushes for it it doesn't seem likely to happen in the foreseeable future.
Warhammer, ear is just way to niche for a company to invest millions upon millions of dollars on a Warhammer film.
Carson Walker
I don't even know what this means. Not enough people turned up?
Adam Stewart
>However it has an ever growing community and enjoying more and more success.

I remember that thread and how one user got BTFOed when 9A was shown to have almost twice the number of events

It means that despite being squated the ninth age still have more player presence than AOS in two major countries

this
right after the release of the General's Handbook polling of independent stores put it at the 4th best selling miniatures wargame in north america, behind X-Wing, 40k, and Warmachine, in that order, although it has fallen since due to the lack of any noteworthy releases since.
When WFB was killed off, it hadn't seen the top 5 in years. People are STILL butthurt about it and they STILL shitpost the /aosg/ threads.
Grayson Barnes
Spot the nomad.
Jayden Torres
>right after the release of the General's Handbook polling of independent stores put it at the 4th best selling miniatures wargame in north america So just like WHFB before End Times?
Asher Garcia
yeah
but end times happened. They couldn't just get rid of it. They had a massive line of SKUs that were old ugly sculpts and not moving product. Instead of being mad at the death of the old world, they should have been mad at letting it fester to a point where its death became inevitable.
Parker King
GW wishes they could be as creative as based radious.
Charles Cooper
my flgs stopped selling Fantasy/AoS minis because the demand is so low, AoS basically ruined their Fantasy sales
Camden Perez
Which never existed?
Jacob Powell
No, those are the big events happening in germany and france, not the activity on the whole. I honestly don't care about your desperate dickswinging, but conflating big tournaments registered in a web with people playing the game generally is retarded
Carter Powell
you mean the sales charts that are glorified hearsay and miss on 42% of GW-games sales?
Fucking idiot.
Charles Butler
Why did they have to destroy the old world? Couldn't they have both, where AoS is the future, or where the dead go to fight?
Lincoln Phillips
Making it the afterlife of WHFB would be great!
Hunter Moore
Because the same Autists would still complain
Chase Mitchell
The rules haven't changed at all really, all they've done is added points.
What has happened is that all the old players have been driven out and so the impression of this game may have improved because the only people left are the die-hard fans.
I would buy Kings of War 2nd edition and just play using Warhammer Fantasy models.
Charles Stewart
AoS is dead, there has been one release this year, now they are only making fire-and-forget boardgames out of it
Easton Perez

It's a casual shit show. See the initiative roll rule.

And yet when I go to all the big tourneys in England it's bigger than WHFB.
AoS is in a dry spell, between the specialist games and the 40k release. But it's nowhere near close to the level of Dead Warhammer Fantasy was Pre-End Times.
David Phillips
Let me make this simple.
the AoS general on Veeky Forums manages to keep as much traffic and as much discussion as the /whg/ which composes of all the RPGS, Mordheim, WHFB, 9th Age and even the Total War game.
Who is dead now exactly?
Jace Rivera
>tfw just started Kings of War >just as simple as AoS, except a lot more watertight and tactical >don't even have to re-base as Minimum Model Count means you can use 11+ troops to represent 20 as long as they use the same total tray size
Try it once, GW drones. I'm bitten.
Adrian Parker
>And yet when I go to all the big tourneys in England it's bigger than WHFB.
Aha bollocks, it's fucking dead up north at least.
Jayden Martin
Oh, and all the Oldhammer discussion.
/whg/ has literally cannibalized like 3 generals to stay alive.
>It's basically 6e without any of the fun
Pass, If I wanted to shuffle blocks around, I'd play minecraft.
Jackson Morales
How north we talking? Because of Nottingham isn't very far from anywhere in England so traveling there is piss easy.
Juan Lopez
AoS covers AoS, AoS Skirmish, Shadespire, the new Warhammer Quest, Gorechosen and yet is regularly slower than a general for a game which hasn't had a release for years?
