Lets make a Mecha Setting

Lets make a Mecha Setting

>Mechs are readily available for public and civilian use

There quickly develops a subset of the population that become terrified of taking their indestructible armor off.

>Public use mechs are a relatively new concept. there where military use mechs before this.
This subset's concerns will be a aligory for the gun control happening in america

Wouldn’t civilian use of Mecha fall under normal vehicle laws and require licenses anyways?

Or is there some outside force that is causing the onset of mecha being necessary, like Aliens?

well, we dont know yet, thread just started. but I would assume robbing and killing a load of people would be alot more easier if you had a tower of metal to throw at it.

>Hey hon, I'm going to go down to the store, do you need something?
>Grab a bag of milk for me, and oh! Don't forget to take the heavy mech, forecasts said there was increased alien activity in the region.

>Most of the mechs are have partially sentient computers, limited only in that they cannot operate without a pilot. This is a result of a previous war against powerful AIs. It's highly illegal to bypass this restriction, but there are still AI factions out there.

More than likely the availability of complex parts and utility means that mecha essentially replace most vehicles. Also, planets with shitty toxic atmospheres.

As such the majority of civilian models have increased carrying capacity and speed, whilst Military/policing Models are still armoured and weaponed but you'll see mixes of stuff depending on the job/culture.

Deforester Mech using a giant chainsaw/claw and maybe some gangster urban mech being incredibly small with weaponry.

They are growing their ranks by going full dreadnaught on unlucky civilians caught walking around in their mech after dark

>Terrible Atmosphere and Aliums
Does it take place on Earth, or a partially developed planet?

How capable is a partially sentient computer?

>going full dreadnaught
soo, they hunt for pilots? why if there A.I based? like the idea though, could lead to a fun monster of the week system

uhh, lets say contemporary earth. theres a single mars colony and the moon is developed planet with mini nations.

and instead of aliums there was a Micro ai apocalypse.

Animal/Instinct level intelligence unrestricted, otherwise it just serves to interface with pilots and provide a robust and adaptive operating system that's flexible to the point of near sentience.

For all their abilities, AI still lacks the spark of Humanity and the ability to come at a problem from multiple angles. They acknowledge this, and seek it...

...

A Micro AI apocalypse would explain the presence of Mecha. The revolt was stopped before the AI could fully program itself into the Mechas, but the factories had already been built

Thats fair

Now im just picturing how the humans reacted
"well when life gives you lemons!"

Depends on the terrain, whats the point in a walking machine if you ain't travelling through forests

Neural interface. It's much easier to train pilots for mechs because they have humanoid proportions and the pilot doesn't have to think of his arms and legs as treads and imagine a cannon on his back.

The biggest issue regarding the AI revolt is that its origin has not been determined. No government or corporation has claimed responsibility, and attempts to find the source through other means have failed...

Worse, many believe it exceeded the abilities of then-available Human AIs...

So what would civi mecha look like? Votoms esq or more like pic related?

The authorities have had to crack down on the banning of assault tendons after one too many school mech-ings. The community is up in arms about the danger vs the right to bear robotic arms

>mech-ings
That is honestly a horrifying mental image

Probably akin to modern day cars, but standing up and naturally more robust. Depends what level of tech the setting sits at, but I think near future is a good fit for what's been established so far.

>Mars city has a Mech production company that pumps out exotic/experemental mecha while earth and the moon still develop more standard mechs

...

>These experimental mecha look almost insectoid. They have a variable number of limbs some far exceeding the standard four and it's rumoured that many are capable of atmospheric flight.

>There's an independence movement building on Mars.

Black market waifu-patch software and onahole hardware mods are voiding warranties left and right. Population growth is plummeting.

>>There's an independence movement building on Mars.
>not like anyone on earth knows. everyone there is concerend over a other mech-apocalypse that Mars created in the first place]

mechas came into vogue in this timeline due to some freak discoveries that occurred around both Europe AND Asia during the 1500's which, while small then, cascaded into the development of military mechas first being seen on the battlefield during World War I.

It should be noted that while power armor is a thing, the breakthroughs that led to Mecha, oddly explicitly seem to operate inverse to the square cube law allowing larger mecha to be stronger, faster, and more durable than they really have any right to be.

A factory worker left a mech-factory construction mech on autopilot while he had a smoke. Nobody knows where it is or if it is still turned on.

Dumping MechatroWeGo illustrations.

Oh my god these are adorable. Yes we need more stuff like this in the thread

The most confusing part of this investigation is that SOMEONE had to be piloting it.

...

...

...

>The AI war happened long enough ago that for the most part modern society believes a repeat incident to be impossible. They have begun to marvel at what most robotics specialists consider to be glitches and errors, things like operating systems repeatedly turning on the radio, having favoured stations, recording video footage without any input from their pilot, and developing other such quirks. It's largely treated as a social media fad, and much of the material is considered to be fake.

...

...

Because the AI have always been in control of the media, replacing the Jews

Last illustration. Yes, these are drawn by the Nichijou artist (if you haven't already guessed).

A mix of votoms, VS from Lost Planet, Landmates, tachikoas and the cutes one you have posted I would say, there could be bigger ones for things like sports and publicity stunts, but the military and civilians get the cheaper, smaller ones than are way more useful and practical.

Bonus 1: Here's the painted MechatroWeGo kit along with another civilian mech from the same designer.

Reminds me of MK too, the are pretty cool.

Bonus 02: Power Arm custom variant built by the kit's designer.

That's all I got for now, but I might be back with some more civilian mechs later...

Those AI helped humanity fight the rouge ones, and consider themselves humanity last resort in case of a resurgence of them. Some are pretty crazy and some would say deviant personality, but they have humanity best interest in mind.

Yup, he fits right in with Maschinen Krieger.

Personally, I prefer fluffier pilots. Helps push it over the line from "power armor" to "mech".

I could see a franchise based on cat pilots in universe. From retelling of the ai wars to simple publicity.

or perhaps civilian mechs are more along the lines of "powered exoskeletons" lacking both arms and armor? Such a suit would still be very useful for labor and transportation

You know, I think it'd be neat if some artist or another took pictures of regular cars and drew what their mech equivalents would be.

Isn't that just transformers?

God damn it Veeky Forums stop coming up with shit that already exists

B-b-but that would be hard.

But, for example, Optimus Prime looks nothing like a truck when in humanoid form.

One set of mechs are made out of synthetic muscle fibres, ceramics, and other semi organic components. These mechs are cheaper to make and weaker than their robotic counterparts but have a limited ability to heal wounds and can be effectively "grown" in tanks and then quickly assembled, vastly reducing the size of their production facilities.

I like that.

There are parts of the world where experiments to destroy the AI did go wrong, and created exclusion zones. They are mostly controlled but stuff gets out from time to time.

[Distant mooing]

...

All kinds of sport involving mechs are popular. Racing with the latest military mech be cute girls its one of them.

>This in turn has lead to a spiritual tradition in which pilot and mech connect on a quasi-mystical level as part of an elaborate mech-based religion

That's not to say Mechas don't have alternate locomotion methods.

I liked that show, but man, nobody ever wants to talk about the idort master-race biotechnological supermonsters.

The porn industry using mechs its niche, but with they fanatics.

I'm back, gonna dump some mecha sports.

>Expensive sport mechs were some of the first mechs to appear on the civilian market.
>Many test pilots and veterans of the Mecha War became sporting pioneers. They piloted modified military models, decommissioned under the Mutual Mecha Arms Treaty of Phobos.
>Mechasports has since developed into some of the most popular spectator events in the system.

>Mecha street b-ball is one of the most popular sports in urban areas across the Earth.

...

>Modern pilot safety features have made mecha roller derby a popular option, outpacing traditional mecha races in many territories. As a full-contact sport, it often attracts skilled pilots from MMMA leagues (Mecha Mixed Martial Arts).

...

I like how some of these teams use 3 mechs of the same model, while other teams are more specialized for the forward/midfield/defender roles.

...

>Motobike-mechs were originally developed for urban combat. They feature high-mobility, light armor, and fully-articulated hands useful for carrying weapons and aiding balance.

>Their low cost makes them popular with teenagers (and guerrilla fighters).

>The most popular motobike-mech sporting events are urban cross-country rallies that combine high-speed street racing and parkour-inspired obstacle courses.

...

...

...

That's about all I got.

>The Mecha Olympics are held every 4 years, between the Winter and Summer Olympics.
>The Mecha Modern Pentathlon features 5 events: shooting, fencing, 20km freestyle swim, orbital archery (replacing horse jumping), and 300km cross-country run.

What 10 events are in the Mecha Decathlon?

Swiming should be one.
Obstacle curse could be another.

Are you saying that Durandal is in charge of Earth in this setting?

>Military mechs are designed to operate in any enviroment conceivable, with limited or no modifications to the chassis. The conditions of modern combat mean that mech pilots can find themselves fighting in micrograv conditinos in an asteroid base today, and then fighting on a heavily volcanic hellhole tomorrorw.

>Many mech arenas have followed suit with highly advanced arenas, that can switch environmental conditions on the fly.

>Being assigned a mecha who's pilot was killed is considered extremely bad luck, or a major slight against someone. Some say that pilots of these "haunted" mecha can hear the voices of it's former pilot during stressful situations, but those stories aren't take seriously outside of seedy bars

>In the martian frontier colonies, passing down mechs through families is commonplace.
>More well-off colonists give these mechs to teenagers as a rite of passage

>Martians are rigorously trained when they reach their teenage years, to ensure that they are ready for their role as pilots, and so they do not disgrace their family with failure

...

...

oh, this thread is still up. neat

I'm actually fairly certain that was a show, remember playing a little flash game for this back on the old cartoon network website.

Nascar Rollerderby Robots.

I just want a mech setting/system where melee weapons are the big thing, and ranged weapons are more tactical/ambush-y in nature.

It was, IGPX. Someone posted all the mechs earlier.

heavy gear maybe?

Then just block the tower of metal with a couple towers of metal.

Either the attacker won't bother due to the high chance of death or he will die fast and become nothing but an echo if that.

Heavy Gear doesn't have anything to do with racing. As was said, IGPX was the racing one.

What feeling are we looking for the setting?
Because with this thread the feeling I'm getting its a cute/comfy setting with very dark, horror like parts than the common people prefer to not think about. And I like it.

Same! And it has to be slow mechs. None of that ninja flipping bullshit.

"IT'S BIGGER, IT'S BETTER, LADIES AND GENTLEMEN, IT'S TOO MUCH FOR MR. INCREDIBLE!"

Courtesy of my gf.

Fuck that, go full Titanfall if you're giving them AIs.

I concur with this statement. Buddy robot suits are the superior choice.

Military mecha also come equipped with an ai that's capable of limited learning and planning. Often the architecture is based upon various predatory animals such as wolves, eagles and crows. These AI overtime will develop a certain level,of familiarity and fondness for a pilot if not rountinely monitored or adjusted.

In addition military grade mecha ai are very expensive to develop resulting in a practice called 'stripping' in which an enemy will disable and forcibly overwrite the ai often this is done by crippling the arms and legs and disabling the pilot. Stripped mecha are often sold on the black market and are unless properly maintained highly unstable.

It's also relatively common for an AI to develop a sort of "PTSD" if exposed to high stress combat situations frequently. This can result in the AI acting abnormally. During combat, most AI patterns will prioritize their own survival above all else, even their pilot's safety. Pilots are recommended to refresh their AI cores regularly to prevent this.
