Grunts are replacable, having them surviving and screaming with abdominal bullet wounds, just out of reach of any rescue attempt that won't add another soldier to the pile, harms morale much more.

War is a dirty business, but you've got to do what you've got to do for the Endsieg. Germany needed Lebensraum, now we fight for our bare survival, and no price is too high. Especially if the enemies have to pay it.
