What clichés do you like?
I like evil empires.
What clichés do you like?
I like evil empires.
The ancient evil awakens
Even better, the ancient evil woke up and is actually fleeing a bigger eviler evil
Stereotypical Wizards are the best.
Tattooed tribal warriors. They are so freaking cool. Yes I'm 12.
Evil hiveminds.
World is actually an experiment or petri dish, protagonist meets the people behind the scenes and either dishes out justice or escapes. Truman show shit.
Also hot asian ninja girls. Scantily-clad, of course.
Old mentor
Even better if they used to be friends with the bad guy/ a bad guy
Effeminate and poetic male villains who are borderline homo
objectively good heroes against nasty bad people with evil sounding names
Party of heroes that are basically just a bunch of selfish murderous sociopaths that only do good because somebody manipulates them from the shadow towards people and places whose destruction will serve some greater good.
Needless to say, it's an acquired taste.
>the ancient evil woke up and is actually fleeing a bigger eviler evil
Is that a cliché? I've never seen it done before.
I want to embody the Old Mentor trope irl.
Androginous people, no matter if boys or girls, but better if the gender is openly ambiguous
>even better if they think they0re better than you
i prefer just straight up effeminate boi pucci
At this point they are an anomaly rather than the norm
Benevolent old king who loves his country and do everything to see it prosper.
Even better: Benevolent emperor who conquer neighbouring countries because he knows unification will bring great profits for trade and science and peace unknown in millenia.
The scorned hero turned villain
Runes, runes fucking everywhere- bonus points for weapons festooned with them
Evil is Industrial
They are
Modern wizards don't capture that whimsy, mayne
And that's p much the only thing that makes magic cool
>Evil is Industrial
my melanated gentleman
>Quick draw duel, both Western and Weaboo
>The fight is equal parts mental and physical
>it happens while it's raining
>the hero leaves while the townsfolk come out to see the result
My dick is made diamonds. pic unrelated
Also
HUGE SWORDS. Rapiers are for faggots and longswords are for quitters. Two-handed weapons are the way to go
the Ozymandias card: "I activated it 35 minutes ago"
""Good"" The wizard has a league of spys watching everyone. The king is a benevolent tyrant and war is as often waged because the king dislikes the nature of another society as it is for legitimate reasons
>Russia
>Plenty of Bees
okay? I guess I never notice then.
My hypothetical villain
>Wizard
>took over a small country
>ignored every rule and questioned what is possible
>wrought devastation by re-directing lay lines to power a magical industry
>Spreads advancement and peace by force with an army of parasite-enhanced warriors bearing mass produced enchanted arms and armour
>all done out of a HFY mindset because elves are arrogant assholes about their collapsed ancient civilisations
Obviously evil minions that all wear similar face-concealing armor
I prefer greedy/power-hungry villains to ideological ones. I feel like Ideological ones are rarely well justified in stories
Progenitor cultures
Lady Knights
All female kingdoms
Mercenaries sitting around a tavern
The evil minister
Dragon riders
>evil empires.
Check
>hot asian ninja girls. Scantily-clad,
Check
* The Old Kingdom, now gone but once Awesome.
* Dark Ages, civilization teetering on the brink of total collapse unless The Heroes triumph
I've come to accept my limits there. If I cant make a motivation make sense, then it simply won't. What mook is going to argue with the big bad over weather or not her goals make sense? But also I want to justify my villains. I want them to be right, or at least not wrong.
"good guys" being moralfag invaders is a regular thing for me
Drow in impractical sexy clothing/armour
Inland seas
Picts/goblins/ogres in the mountains
Neutral being/person is so powerful by himself, he could single-handedly solve all the world's problems and/or destroy every menacing power around
>But doesn't want to because he doesn't give a fuck about it
Oh, yeah, I forgot:
Frozen nasty land up north.
Angmar, Vaasa, shit beyond The Wall.
Stuff like that.
Villains(Especially liches) that are just looking for ways to alleviate the tedium of existence in increasingly outlandish ways.
>Englishman fashion
>French
>Hungarian amusement
>Doing nothing
/int/ 15th century
Big dumb muscle wizard bros with rough edges and hearts of gold, in most of their implementations.
>Big dumb specialist weapon mule that shares his rations with stray cats
>Big dumb fighter with a big dumb two handed weapon that sends trinkets back home and takes assignments pro bono on occasion, probably ends up experiencing a type C heroic last stand to buy the rest of the party time
>Big dumb SOF guy that likes his drink but genuinely thinks he's making the world a better place
>Big dumb prospector who's crazy about gold but also makes a hobby out of dynamiting bandit camps
>Big dumb trucker/space trucker that likes his bar fights but enjoys picking up hitchhikers and exchanging stories with them
>Big dumb engineer who has a hidden still and becomes a living nightmare to those who would use his maintenance areas and causeways for malicious purposes
There's a lot of variance but he has to be well meaning and he has to be capable of kicking the door open on the first try
I actually like the 'chosen one' trope. Especially if the character never sees it coming nor understands why he is.
I like evil umpires
>All female kingdoms
But them how is babby formed?
Reforming one of the villains into a good guy, be they former hero once before reclaiming their soul, or feeling the joys of being good for the first time. Bonus points for them having to sacrifice on some level but finding themselves objectivly happier for it.
raiding village and raping men
or sculpting a child of clay and asking the god to give her life
>not just a kingdom of dick girls
I kid I kid, but a kingdom that lives on raiding won't last long, so the godly blessing hand wave always works better
Well, it depends on who's writing it
If it's a feminist then they just magically manifest self fertilization out of nowhere and never give birth to men
If it's an angry feminist or a man then they raid surrounding settlements for men. The former will emphasize the reversal of perceived power roles moreso than the latter, while the latter will go to more trouble to explain how the the raiders can get away with it despite their civilization being more or less dependent on theft. And/or how they're basically marginalized to the shitty backwaters that can't defend themselves from the practice because of it.
The heroic individual or group of an otherwise evil race or faction. Spelling out that all can master their fate and see the light
Artoria sure looks cute here.
>Russia
>Plenty of bees
>Poland
>Plenty of fur
The fuck?
user, better look up French/English fashion
Loveable rogues.
Villain redeems himself.
Im a fan of villians who keep doing it because of debt and sunk cost fallacy
>Turk
>Fashion: Feminine.
Ouch!
Villains who pretend to be good, but then go native because goddamn being a Hero is FUN!
>Reigned by
>A volunteer
>mentor dies
Orcs in the mountain raiding the villages around.
The not-so-evil ancient Vampire Lord.
The company of weird rangers, protecting the country against evil in the shadow.
Old Kingdom that was all powerful and technologically superior but became decadent and eroded, has few remaining enclaves but they're still hoarding that delicious tech
>Battle with magic/illusions that is only focused on 'one upping' each other in the conjured images or realm
>ie; one mage conjures a fire, the other conjures a river to put it out, then the first makes beavers to block up the river, etc.
instantly reminded me of gurren lagann
but is betrayed by his favored son who causes a civil war and puts the whole country in chaos
hmm... where have I seen this before?
Sexy aliens, it makes no real sense but damn if it doesn't light me up to imagine aliens being like us at their core
Sexy but evil countesses
I like them all.
Just not all at once.
Bitter old mercenaries and sniveling cowards that somehow stay alive
Far removed warrior cultures that are difficult to understand at first are a big favorite of mine. DA:O/2 Qunari, Traviss Mandalorians, etc.
Ancient all-powerful beings who have the maturity of greek gods and/or toddlers.
religious zealots, particularly of the "face ma huly sword and fiyah" variety
Sexy but kind hearted prostitutes.
I agree. Based Reinhardo.
All of them.
The problem is never with the cliche, it’s with the execution.
100%
Foppish villains especially, the kind you are just not expecting cruelty from, are a lot of fun.
Decolonize yourself
>the hero leaves while the townsfolk come out to see the result
>Slow Jonny Cash track starts playing
Star wars?
got something for you
does urza qualify as that?
I should've read the books about urza, I only read the first story, the one about the origin of phyrexia
Star Wars is so fucking bad. I'll never understand the reddit-y fascination with it. The writing is fuck awful terrible and the characters are all bland as shit. There is no depth to any character what so ever. The only good thing about it was the special effects but retards like Lucas had them all retroactively replaced with early 2000's cgi that looks universally shit.
If you're a grown man who legitimately enjoys Star Wars you deserve to be laughed at. It's a baby movie meant to sell licensed toys and lunch boxes you fucking losers.
>The son becoming like his father despite his best efforts not to and succeeding where the father ultimately failed.
Loved it in the Erthring Cycle by Wayland Drew.
>I'm unable to enjoy a thing
>therefore everyone who enjoys it is wrong
Sacrificing myself to save the rest of the team. Obessively try to do it every game
>"just because you don't like smashing yourself in the head with a hammer doesn't give you the right to criticise those of us who do like it!"
Brilliant logic that
Welcome to nu/tg/, where your fun is wrong.
False equivalence.
>Nazi soldiers kept alive by any combination of science/technology or magic.
Star Wars is objectively bad though
rescuing the princess
it is sad how rare that is
Oh big time. Urza is an immense asshole, and the only reason he gets the hero treatment is because Phyrexia is so much worse than him
According to one persons subjective opinion? That's nice.
lol whoever drew that fucking loves Sergio Leone
It's true though, it's also not a false equivalence either because unironically watching Star Wars can induce brain damage as severe or worse in the viewer as being bludgeoned
Sorry you're upset someone made fun of the baby movies you like
>What clichés do you like?
People without any special abilities who can fight alongside/against super powered beings and keep up through sheer training and force of will.
>People liking anything I don't is Reddit
I don't know why I'm surprised. I really don't
...
> It's a baby movie meant to sell licensed toys and lunch boxes you fucking losers.
You are an idiot. If you went in to expect gripping dialogue and compelling characters you should be laughed at. It, arguably, has the greatest plot twist in all media.
The rousing speech given by the commander of the army before charging into battle.
The whole "This mission is suicide - there is no dishonor if you choose to leave. Just do so now..." and not a single member of the group leaves.
Beauty is in the eye of the beholder. Take that as you want.
Don't forget to quote us all later and say "u mad."
>"Le Luke le Im like ur dad dude xD totes uploading this to reddit xD"
Wow! What depth!
Depth is not related to an unexpected plot twist. A simplistic plot can have a very unexpected and lasting plot twist that captures the audience. Star Wars is an example of this. Perhaps the most impacting in mainstream media.
Though well done for trying.
Wizard and Dragon.
Underground remains of literally fallen ancient civilization. I almost always some form of this, always with the entrance or at least part of the way down being a partially intact tower.
You're joking, right?
If you aren't the dude just replying to himself, then stop taking the bait, you autist.
holy shit that tie is too big
>Unabashedly heroic characters in a flawed world
>Minor villains joining up with the party, either for redemption or because they straight up like them
>Relatively unassuming character turns out to be way more powerful than they've been letting on. Bonus points if a player does this against the big bad.
>Breaking the heroes or villains by talking
These are all my jam, and they all happen in my DM's campaign. It's amazing.
