Taking inspiration from the other amazon thread currently up, I'm currently stating out/writing out fluff for homebrewn amazons. The reasoning I'm going with is that amazons exist because of their (at least initial) isolation, with amazons being a human subspecies that pops up occasionally when a population is isolated in primitive conditions surrounded by environmental threats, typically large predators

In some distant island the population was growing too much and they couldn't feed everybody so all the men sailed away in the search for land and food, but they never returned.
With the population effectively halved, suddenly the hunger problem got solved instantly and the survivors (women and children) came to the conclussion that men were the problem to begin with, so from that point onwards whenever a man was born, they'd nurture him into adulthood, fuck a child or two out of him and sail him away never to be seen again.
Since the population was always under control doing this, the idea that a population of mainly women worked was reinforced and thus the tradition kept going forwards to the point where men were considered actual subhumans worth only for mating and nothing else.
They're warriors because... dunno, the island has big predators or something. I'm obviously not a good writer.

Amazons are not a civilization, or a culture, but rather a fantasy race all to themselves. Like Elves or halflings, while they are superficially similar to humans they are really quite different. They are all female, have an inhuman combination of muscular physique and feminine beauty, and are of a size rivaled by only the very tallest of men.

Amazons are the creations of a Goddess of War, and prize strength and honor on the battlefield accordingly. They have few arcane casters, but an active preisthood to their mother goddess that doubles as their government, lead by a seemingly immortal witch-queen who claims to be a scion demigod of the goddess herself.

The Amazons are isolationist for a number of reasons. The first is that, while they venerate battle, history shows that fights against humans are too one sided in their own favor, and as such they no longer view such wars as honorable tests of their skill.

However, all those big girls need a lot of nutrients, especially with that steep breeding curve. They are better at hunting/working because of their physique, but other than shafting males again by taking over their role, competition for resources will spike, resulting in an aggressive and violent group behavior. here, have the 'warrior' part. At this point, you should expect weird shit like sexual cannibalism too. Female-favoring sexual dimorphism is very rarely nice to males.

Isolationism at this point is easy. Nobody would ever consider contacting these man-eating Musclewomen From Hell who are most likely on their way to become the apex species anyway. Biologically, the sex that produces eggs is female, even if there is no male counterpart. You can't have an all male species for obvious reasons, but all female species can and do exist. Whatever they think of themselves as socially is irrelevant. Asari are maybe hermaphrodites? The Mass Effect codex explicitly calls the asari an "all-female" race, and they generally describe themselves in feminine terms. The concept of gender probably isn't even foreign to them, because I doubt every other species on Thessia is monogendered, so they would have seen male animals and developed the concept of male and female, even if it didn't directly apply to them.

Side note: One of the little things I really liked about Mass Effect was that the race names weren't capitalized, and the races weren't just named after the planets. I always thought that was some nice attention to detail on their part.

I think you have a handful of questions to answer before you can get to that one. First, why are they isolationists? Any reason works, so long as it's a reason that has reason. Second, what kind of culture do they have beyond just fighting? You're going to run out of people real quick if your society has only women and only fights. Third, what kind of history do they have, and what lessons have they learned (if any) from their history?

Following this set of questions, you could come up with something like this: A culture of women, separated from the world by the fact that they live on a large floating rock. Originally from Nordic lands, they still carry much of those traditions; Like fighting, drinking, and setting around fires telling stories. Still, they spit on the stories of the one that cursed them: Loki. He came in disguised as a warrior from a neighboring village and told the women of the village that he would take all their problems away from them. He tricked them in their weakness, and now they float in the clouds: Not aging nor making families. Only waiting for their chance to kill the god that took everything away from them.
