You have 1 new group message: "So what do you think about this Resonance mumbo jumbo?"

fuck off Alice I'm trying to get some sleep

I think its time to jackout for a bit before the technomancers get me.

Your strength determines the amount of armor accessories you can wear, does that include the overcoats that stack with suits?

Yes. If its got a + in front of it then it counts.
So berwick is 9. Then you throw an overcoat on top its 9+3.

>I think its time to jackout for a bit
Or at least jack off so you die happy.

I know techno needs a buff.

They need a bullet through the skull. Only way to salvage them is to give them the old yeller treatment.

t. horizon

Any advice on how to build shapeshifting characters?

Use a cheap shifter like bovine and buy a troll metaform, and stay in the metaform, thus using it to cheat through a troll on a C priority/Sum to ten. ignore animal form and enhance meta-form, play like a regular metahuman. Alternatively be a Tigerine shifter adept for the base 2d6 to initiative + 3 levels of improved reflexes of the max 5d6 initiative, up your body to get the best critter armour you can, run in tigerform and eat bitches. Chill in meta form, to avoid heat (tiger? what tiger?).

You yell at Yekka to fix them in Chummer, and then rage as he delays them and swears he'll have them fixed by next week yet again.

I heard CGL got their license renewed in the last year?

How can Shadowrun be pried from their hands? I was thinking an alliance between ze Germans and Harebrained Schemes but I don't think they're big enough.

Maybe Paradox or FFG can invest in Harebrained and w/ all their forces combined + Ze Germans they can defeat CGL or at least buy them bathroomgates so they're happy

or mebbe some huge SR vidyagame gets made and a big guy steps in

i don't see these scenarios as likely. ded gaem i guess

The people who grant them the license have to stop giving it to th em

What's the point of using the nightlies of chummer, anyway? Every one I've tried has been horrendously unstable.

So we can be bug testers. Its called helping out omae

Mostly so that you're not a couple months behind on fixes. The difference between nightly and stable is more or less arbitrary, I mostly just increment after I feel bad about how long it's been since a release. Whenever I finish the data entry for the shifters I'll probably push a new release.

>the best troll is not a troll
Why is Shadowrun full of this bullshit

Of course, that requires the GM to allow that stupidity.

What are the rules for building flammenwerfer into guitar?
Or guitar into flammenwerfer?

Custom form werfer?

Because CGL doesn't give a fuck and farms writing out to low rent underpaid freelancers who they proceed to give no direction to, don't edit or cross-reference or playtest their submissions properly, then just shit them out and rake in the cash. It's how we end up with unworkable garbage like the current shapeshifter rules.

Nice digits, tho.

For the guys in the last thread complaining that there's no way for non-Physical adepts to survive background counts, grab Heightened Concentration (Shadow Spells book). 0.5PP, but you activate it as soon as you enter a background cound and until you leave it reduces all penalties up to half your Magic rating.
Damn, that's good.

CGL overlooked something when they wrote it though... by RAW it also works in mana voids. No other background count mitigation does that. Technically that means with a high enough magic attribute you can use magic in outer space.

>0.5PP, but you activate it as soon as you enter a background cound and until you leave it reduces all penalties up to half your Magic rating.
That's not how it works.

>The adept can ignore a single distraction while performing another task.
You have to activate it before starting a specific task, and then it ends when you complete that task. A task will be one roll.

I've actually just asked someone from Catalyst on the official forums about this. He confirms that accarding to how they use the rule in their 'official' games, you activate it once and it lasts until whatever is causing the penalty stops (i.e, you leave the background count).

Overpowered? Blame CGL.

/shrug
I don't expect CGL to know how their own rules work.

Do technomancers work in space or what?

Also, if you're talking about Kiirnodel ... demo team. That means they're a GM with a fancy title and license to roam the wilds of gaming stores and conventions, not part of CGL.

I think so. They dont need mana for the voodoo that they doodoo so well

Yes. It's pretty conclusive proof that Resonance is not a form of magic.

Or the designers simply overlooked this. From a mess such as Shadowrun, I would not even be surprised.

Its not overlooked. Pretty sure I've read jackpointers theorize about whether technomancers are actually using magic or not. Its just not been detailed yet. So its up to the GM.

There is also Shadowrun LARPing
aka go do some extorsion, kidnaping, bribing, building demolition and straight up murder until the license ends in proper hands

>FASA buys the license back
>SR and Earthdawn are reunited
Is this a good end?

What's to forbid?
4e's Spy Games had the Secondary Functionality modification for equipment, that might work.

I have to ask just to make sure: there are no deviants here, right ? None of us has a fetish for strong mech warrior women with cybernetic limbs that are secretly masochists that like when you disconnect their limbs and treat them like playthings when in private, right ?

No shit fetishes around here, nope.

What are some usefull skills and spells that you can give your ally spirit?

Where do you think you are?

Molly Millions just DOES things to me, user.

Someone post that adorable as fuck street samurai ork lady in the summer dress.

>she will never trust you enough to do maintenance on her arm stumps when her back alley firmware glitches.

>street samurai ork lady in the summer dress
someone post it

Blades.

Guardian Spirits or bust dude. If you aren't summoning 6 force 12 Guardian Spirits that take the form of knights that scream "HAVE AT THEE" to all opponents as they gangbang anybody that dares oppose your will, you aren't playing a shaman right.

FFG (and their overlords at Asmodee) don't want it, they're doing their own thing with Genesys and the Android Universe, both of which they own entirely.
In theory, when they get off the ground you could even do Shadowrun in it, seeing as Genesys looks like it's going to be GURPS-style building blocks with regards to things like magic

>ARES is big into creating off-world colonies and has developed cryogenic technology and genetic engineering to spread to other stars.
>ARES is also big into bug spirits, and is apparently being slowly taken over by them.
>ARES has a gigantic space station that they have lost contact with. There's a good chance that it has a permanent connection to the Hive, since somehow it has enough life to grant a manasphere.
>An interstellar colonial program run by bug spirits inhabiting genetically-engineered transhumans could never possibly backfire on humanity.

Damn it, Damian Knight. You had a great plan and you just had to go balls it up.

That's Chica, the girl in that post

Has anyone ever taken skills A?

It should be. Who knows, maybe one day.

Yes. It's good if you want to maximise karma investment

6 force 12 ally spirits are a bit too expensive. I was rather thinking about a hot chick that can turn into a raven

A waifu with her own inbuilt transportation system? Sure. You can save on plane seats too buy making her shift into bird form and putting her in a cage.

Honestly? Play 4e. 5e removed Regeneration from them, which is a deal breaker for me, personally. I normally prefer 5e, but not for shapeshifters.

I'm going to reiterate Blades. Give that spirit a Weapon Focus.

Aside from that, just look through the various sections on Critter Powers.

Or just have her go immaterial. Because she's a spirit.

Heal, Improved Invisibility, Influence for spells. A spirit with those is practically an entire second mage where it counts.

And definitely Flight and one or more combat skills. Spirits are at their most powerful when materialized and stomping mundanes with guns, and at their weakest when being attacked by wizards in the Astral. Having Melee and a Weapon Focus Combat Knife helps for both mundane-stomping and Astral self defense.

You're thinking too small.

6 force 12 waifus that can turn into crows. At will, have a murder murder all that oppose you.

So, SRG, how do I into riggers? Like this shits confusing. Say I grab a control rig, an RCC and a couple roto drones, where do I go from there? What attributes, skills (besides the various pilot and mechanic ones) and other rigger-related gear do I need?

So I'm writefaggin' up a story set in 2056 and I wanna use an elemental spirit like a Salamander or the likes, only to have it turn toxic via something like being bonded to a mage or shaman who dies in a pretty shit, grief-inducing way and thus corrupts the spirit by proxy, causing it to go on a spree where it hops into people who are grieving and burns them from the inside out (causing 'unexplained arson' incidents at the same time).

What I wanna know is this: Fluff-wise, does the concept check out? I'm not bothered about crunch, especially since I'm not even using SR4/5 in my concepts in any way. I just want to be sure that, as an idea and a premise, the thing holds up within the lore and setting itself. And if it doesn't, what alternatives could work?

Also someone asked for Chica in a wedding dress, so here.

where does this pic came from?

get an Arm of God so that you don't suck when your drones get fucked by a homebrewed EMP grenade because your GM hates having to roll for all 20 of your drones.

Joking aside, the it depends. Are you going to swarm drone rigger, or are you going to be the APC rigger. I'll need an answer before I write any more.

Dark Souls. I don't know the artist.

I'd like a rundown on both, but if it's either/or then APC rigger.

Thanks for your time in advance.

If you for driveriggin a single car, skip the RCC.
Get a Rating 2 Control Rig, Wired Reflexes 1 and used reaction enhancers 3 so you'll end up with 9-10 REA, then buy a neat car and spend the rest of your Nuyen on some AGI enhancements, so you can dip into being a Streetsam.

And if i were to go opposite, swarm rigging?

To be an effective rigger, just like being an effective anything in Shadowrun, you have to specialise.

No matter what, you're going to want your REA to be pretty high up there if not maxed out. As a rule of thumb, you never want an Attribute to be at 1. You'll want a R2-R3 Control Rig, Wired Reflexes or Synaptic Boosters at R1-R2, and Reaction Enhancers 2-3. If you think you'll be in the thick of the shit, get an Arm of God with an APDS Machine Pistol / Hand Cannon.

A Swarm Rigger has a shit ton of drones set up with the Rigger 5.0 Swarm Program (pg 31). Essentially, you get the Swarm program, a bunch of Group programs, get Device Rating x 3 Drones, slave them all to your RCC, give them all machine guns, and casually sweep over entire encounters by yourself. The game now revolves around you and maybe a shaman, more so than any decker pizza party. The best description I can give you for how you'll fight is during an RTS game, where you select all of your units and then force them to attack one guy.

As for the APC rigger, which is my personal favorite, you have one or two well armored, well equipped vehicles that you personally dive into and control to make sure your team gets in and out of jobs safely. On top of that, you also become a literal and figurative tank unless your GM is a cunt and uses Vehicle Called Shots as is. You are often going to be the team's mobile cover, their artillery, and their breacher! Once you show your team how good you are at collapsing the entire front side of a building you have to raid, almost all of your plans will start with "user will ram the front door with his semitruck." If that doesn't work, you can always ram the door with a disposable vehicle loaded with 200 kilos of commercial explosives. Despite the name, an APC rigger just means "Tanky Vehicle Driver." So if you want to do Aircraft or Naval Craft, that's up to you.

I can go into more detail on either of these.

I'd like to hear what you have to say when it comes to both but, lets start with APC rigger, since it's your fave.

Also thanks, this is a big help.

you know those robot arms they use for surgery? Would that be a decent excuse to make a medic/rigger character, and if so, how would you personally execute that?

Stick to a single drone model, so you can load the Software on the RCC instead of having to buy it for every single drone.
Also don't go for this role if you don't know how the GM handles Drones.
If he is the "Shoot down Drones to send the Players a message" type, take a different role.
Drones are expensive and fragile, even losing two over the course of a run can put you into net-loss territory with decent payouts.

Alright, no problem.

With an APC Rigger, you are the teams cover, artillery, transport, distraction, breacher, all of it. You will be one of the greatest applicants of unrelenting force for the team. As I said before, you will have a very tanky vehicle (if not outright a tank, depending on the campaign setting) that will act as the backbone for the teams tactical engagements.

I assume you're running Rigger 5.0, and with that, you will need to decide if you want to take it slow and nigh indestructible, or average speed and tanky. Many people swear by the GMC Gopher, others by the Ares Roadmaster, but I prefer the BMW Teufelkatze (which you'll definitely need a specific build for to get it at chargen). You'll want the vehicle to have some sort of explosive capability, so grenade launchers or rocket launchers on a couple of mounts will do nicely. Unless you want to play Tokyo Drift, you should probably get flexible mounts, but if you want to play the super wheelman doing donuts while launching grenades all over the fucking place, go ahead. If you have people that are good at shooting, get some gunports. Armor + Passenger Protection + Personal Armor is required. Run Flats, as well. Everything else is up to you.

You keep a stock of vehicles, as well. Some designed for pure combat, others designed for infiltration. You probably shouldn't drive to the meeting with the Johnson in the KorpKrusher2077 that has a Flak88 mounted on a rotating platform operated by a crew of drugged up gangers. Unless you're trying to imitate the War Rig from Mad Max, then by all means, go ahead.

There are a set of rules, mainly the Vehicle Called Shots, that are stupid busted and can make any Vehicle Rigger cry. Unless you house rule them (like I did for my campaign, much to my Rigger players relief) then you should ALWAYS go for the highest body and armored vehicles.

>Go-gangers riding eternal, shiny and chrome
why haven't I made this connection before?

Aighte, thanks man, and, if you have the time, what about the other side of the coin, swarm riggers?

Fix shifters already.

Another thing to note with the APC Rigger is that you can use any type of vehicle! You just need to figure out which ones you want to base your campaign around. No need for boats if you're trapped on land, and there's no need for Aircraft if you think you're GM is going to be an asshole and stat a Tomahawk Missile to kill you for your transgressions (like I did.)

Swarm Riggers is really, really easy. Get a good RCC, get the Swarm program, get a dozen of the same drone all armed with the same weapon, and load up the autosoft for shooting on the RCC. The group of drones now count as one, but they all take damage seperately if I recall. So imagine if you had, say, 12 flying drones all armed with grenade launchers. They will all follow the same command, and they will all fire at the same target. Ever wanted to kill a dragon? This is how.

The upside to the Swarm Rigger is that you can actually take drones out of the Swarm for more direct control, and there's nothing stopping you from having a couple of other drones not in the swarm for other things. Some of the scariest shit is a drone 40 meters in the air with an APDS sniper rifle shooting at targets that your street samurai designates while you sit comfortably in a cargo container somewhere using 6 drones in a swarm with grenade launchers literally obliterate anybody standing in cover.

>using the Teufelskatze

Driving around in an F car is sorta a bad idea.

Grab the BMW Infinity X instead.
Sure, it only has Body 14, Armor 13, but you don't Need to spend 10 Karma on a Quality AND its not even restricted, so you skip on generating to much attention.

I suspect its actually the civilian base for the Teufelskatze, because the X line nowadays are the SUVs and thats what the Kitty is.

>40 meters in the sky

Nah, if you go for the designated firing Plattform, you (ab)use Machine Guns.
Thats the place where their ridiculous high range really comes in handy.
Sure, my Drone would get taken down by SMG fire, but have fun hitting or even recognizing it when its floating 700 Meters above your head.

Aighte, thanks a lot man this covers most of the basics of the archetype, a final question, what about 'ware? How much, and what's the must haves

High REA is a must, everything else depends on how much nuyen you have available and how good you want to be outside your main role.

Fuck off John, you tried to kill me the last time I talked with you

Also: resonance is pretty weird

Last but not least for all of these is style, and what exactly your GM has planned. Riggers are one of the few archetypes that can truly do whatever the fuck they want.

If you wanted to have a horde of melee drones operate as a bubble wrap distraction for your team in combat, that is completely viable. Having a bunch of drones with miniguns loaded with EX-Explosive floating around can prove as a really good mook grinder.

My personal favorite is using the vehicle for breaching. Ramming a building with your car and having everybody get out after blasting the security checkpoint with a rocket launcher is a fantastic feeling. Building heavily guarded? Ram a stolen Americar that has 200 kilos of commercial explosives in the trunk into it instead. You'll eventually have everyone searching for a mad bomber, where anything important has highway onramps blocked off by layered Bremer walls and antivehicle helicopters patrolling the sky.

You'll want a Control Rig, obviously. You don't need one! It's just really nice to have. If you want to play the badass driver that can shoot really well who drives an APC, go ahead. The upside of being a Rigger is that you can actually become a Lite Street Samurai (Street Ashigaru?) with just a couple more slabs of chrome, like a Pain Editor and what not. Just remember to take a Code of Honor.

Thanks a lot man, this has been super helpful, appreciate it.

No problem.

Related question to the thread. Does anybody want to build up on other ways to play a Rigger, and then we can just screencap this as a compilation to post when people ask "How do I into Rigger?" cause this is the... third time I think I've done a similar write up.

>not BODbasedrecoilcompensation.gif

>Mad Bomber

Hey Buddy, want a fancy comlink?

It's not a summer dress.

That's not how toxic magic works. 'Toxic' is s specific term that applies to mana that has been corrupted by pollution. This corrupted mana influences mages and spirits that try to use it; for most it's a horrific revulsion, but some succumb to the polluted mana and become Toxic Shamans and Toxic Spirits, fundamentally changing their identity and relationship to magic. You don't 'turn toxic' because something sad happens.

On a further note, in the 2050s 'elemental' is specifically used to talk about the near-mindless servitors of Hermetic mages, who wouldn't give a shit if their master died (which would just cause them to return to their astral plane of origin). Also, there are such things as magic cops, and 'burning from the inside out' is the kind of thing that's clearly magic and would get them on the case. Maybe they don't know who the culprit is or the motive, but it's not, "Man, some weird cases of spontaneous combustion going around."

As for alternatives, I have no idea what you're trying to do in the story. Is a reflection on loss and the bond between conjurer and spirit? Is it about toxic magic? Is it a detective story where someone's trying to solve magic crimes?

I love the demolition rules for Shadowrun way too much. I was the guy that played a dude that made a shit ton of nail bombs and detonated them in Seattle.

Seriously, there is no better way to fuck up a response team faster than a nail bomb that's hidden in a briefcase. Or a backpack. Or a garbage can. If you want to play it oldschool, hide one in Scooter like the IRA did. 10 kilos of commercial explosives attached to the gas tank can seriously ruin the day of anybody involved.

>If you wanted to have a horde of melee drones operate as a bubble wrap distraction for your team in combat

Just throwing this into the room:
Fly Spies with Defiance Ex Tasers.
Cost 3k nuyen per pice, got melee attacks, tasing and the blind terror of your enemies when a wall of power closes in on them
For more shock and terror, replace the taser for a monofilament chainsaw for additional 250 nuyen.

Forgot pic.
