/cyoag/ - CYOA general
This is OC by the way. Feel free to give any criticism or feedback. Any option you think should be there or anything that isn't the way it should be.
I'm guessing you need leftover mana capacity to use anything that requires mana, but that concept isn't explained at all nor is there any way to know how much would be enough.
I don't want to give feedback to this, I want to give feedback to some other OC.
the hell is Oz'tra a reference to
Australia
I never would have caught that.
If you are wondering about the description/picture, it's Konosuba.
>TN: Isekai means "a new world"
All according to keikaku.
Also it isn't clear when it says your mana capacity will "grow as a percentage of what you start with" whether that's referring to the 100,000 you have at the start of the CYOA or however much you have leftover at the end.
I meant the description. Most, if not all of them, are references to other things.
>there are demons
>but no angels or fairies
lame, you forgot the include 2 out of 3 of the proper choices
>Origin
>Lambda
>Magic capacity and filling it up with skills
Hmmmm.
Hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm.
It doesn't even quite mean that. Isekai most directly means, a world other than this world, and sekai means the world. Though rather than planet the scale is universe, so the best translation for isekai is really alternate/parallel reality
I thought it was intuitive. Mana is pretty big in the zeitgeist these days. It's late here now, so this is more of a plan for tomorrow than something I'll address immediately, but I'll see about adding a line which addresses that.
Mostly KonoSuba, which is the source of the image and of the "fantasy australia" notion. Although the focus on the adventurer's guild is very widely used. Old World, Alemany, World of Gods, and Origin also have images from their main inspirations.
There aren't worlds that are good fits for those races, and they're not really core concepts in isekai. I haven't read any where either of those races are protagonists and can only think of one case with a major non-antagonistic fae character (Kuro no Maou) and none for angels.
The only thing that I've legitimately forgotten was a Maou destiny. That'll be in the next version for sure. Well, I say the only thing, there were some that were crowded out by design such as general starting skills; between magic and race it's already full up on relatively pedestrian options.
I see you are a man of taste as well. I considered making Origin be the World of Shadow but then there would be three from Warlock of the Magus World (even though Faerûn isn't originally from there) and that would be too much. But I don't think the shadowrun world has a name of its own other than the sixth world, which I don't much like as a name. I might do it for the next version depending on opinions.
then add something nice like a dragon or lycantrophe, the current races suck for high magic contexts
>a dragon or lycantrophe
What are some isekai LNs that have done these well?
From what I've read so far, they're lower on the list of priorities than a vending machine.
i dont give a fuck or even know what a LN is
Can you at least give me a fucking yes or no as to whether we need to have leftover points?
...
...
You'll want to have some mana, yes. It ended up that pretty much everything uses it. That wasn't really intentional but I kept having better ideas (chi instead of just strength, gravity acceleration instead of just going fast) which would use it.
The part that wasn't clear is whether or not spending capacity into your soul actually lost you the capacity in the world
You need to calm down
Reincarnated as a Dragon’s Egg ~Lets Aim to Be the Strongest~ does dragons all right, with the mc being a dragon. However the mc is, an idiot, it takes until something like chapter 200 before he really gets his shit together. Not that he's a bad sort, or that his choices don't make sense, they're all understandable but even as of the latest japanese release he's still making stupid mistakes, I just don't think general competence is his thing.
So your goal isn't to make an interesting CYOA, it's to be religiously derivative of an arbitrary genre. Okay.
just telling you like it is *shrug*
...
>why is an Isekai CYOA drawing inspiration from Isekai stuff?
user are you retarded
...
...
Please refrain from calling people retarded.
...
Oh, I see. Thanks for clarifying, I'll make sure to improve the wording when I put out an upgrade tomorrow.
Thanks, added to my backlog.
It's both. In the same way that I've omitted potentially interesting fantasy stuff because it doesn't fit isekai cleanly, I've omitted some great isekai stuff that I didn't see a good way to fit into the CYOA.
Astute readers who are familiar with isekai may notice that there's nothing from Overlord or Dungeon Defense. I considered both of those, but Overlord is too high powered and has too different of an origin. Dungeon Defense is kind of very loosely alluded in Inferno but that's really more from the Lazy King. Both of those too have settings that rely more on details than anything else to be good and interesting, so it's hard to fit them into a couple short paragraphs and make something worthwhile, and for DD the whole story is really like that, since it's so political.
Although come to think of it, the ability to craft NPCs would be a good power.
Did you forget where you are?
...
I think I got a good bit of them down.
Magus World: ???
Origin: Shadowrun
Oz'tra: KonoSuba
World of Gods: D&D
Lambda: ???
Barsoom: ???
Inferno: ???
Alemany: That one anime where the dude gets reincarnated as a Nazi loli
Old World: ???
...
I don't think Origin is Shadowrun, it has VR tech.
...
...
Magus world looks and sounds like some kind of Xianxia, basically chinese high fantasy though it's more specific than that, it's kind of a fucked up lot though.

...
I hate branching heart
...
We don't want your kind here.
...
>Magus World
The trick is it's Chinese xianxia isekai. Warlock of the Magus World. most notable for getting three chapters translated per day, with more than a thousand complete. Also it actually does something with the isekai premise, which is nice. World of Gods is also partially from here.
>Lambda
Death Mage Who Doesn't want a fourth time. Origin is also partially from here. This one isn't super widely known since it only started getting translated fairly recently, but it's also the main inspiration for the whole premise.
>Barsoom
The trick is it's American confederate isekai/sci-fi. John Carter of Mars. This one actually got made into a major Hollywood flop.
>Inferno
The Lazy King which is underrated in my opinion. Also Solium Infernum, which isn't isekai.
>Alemany
The name is Youjo Senki.
>Old World
Not isekai at all, it's Warhammer Fantasy
None of them are exactly as their inspiration, necessarily. Origin is mostly shadowrun if it were imagined in a modern time instead of back when it really was. And also none of the completely looney bullshit like native americans somehow taking over most of the continent just because.

Why are there so many damn pages of this overwrought waifu shit?
...
Because it's terrible and I hate it.
...
People were having an actual discussion and we can't have that! Better spam the thread with something nobody actually wants to respond to instead!
...
We can only assume that the author was trying to satisfy the demand for waifus permanently.
Futile, of course. We are endless.
...
To be fair, it's not like it was a big discussion, and it may have been winding down anyway. You can't expect too much when it's past midnight in the country that gives Veeky Forums the most traffic.
I don't see the appeal of Branching Hearts much but if it triggers anti-waifu fags this hard it must be doing something right.
Quantity over quality. A lot of CYOAs are like that these days.
...
>more pages than war and peace
It fucking doesn't. If anything were done right, it would be turned into a PDF.
I don't see the appeal of CYOAs solely focusing on waifus to begin with
...
Masturbation oriented ones (elf slave, make a sexbot) can be okay. But yeah, just "pick a girl from this long catalogue of walls of text" is unimaginative and uninspiring.
Necromancer cyoa?
...
>Meat Beams! (Choke on my salty sausages!)
>Big Beams! (It's a lot to take in, the size, girth, the BEEEEAAAAM!!!)
>Red (and healthy)
>Big Gross Eye (Or a "one eyed monster" get it?)
My strategy is to make EVERYONE really uncomfortable and feel sexually awkward with my childish innuendos.
you really must admire the attempt though. Give them that.
I'm not too big on waifus myself, but i'll be honest, the effort put forward is impressive.
Ah, yes, the bad old days when most CYOAs were 'locked in a room for x-number of years' and a single page.
I don't have any OC but does anyone have any requests for reposts?
Beri just kept adding more waifus to it, and so it grew.
...
...
Don't cuck me like that.
Post Necromancer cyoa, please.
Hypno
Point
Invisible
Dead Gazerbeam
I dare you to make fun of my beams or choice of companions
What of it?
The original was nice, I think the modern version fails to make use of the maxim "it isn't done when there's nothing more to add but when there's nothing more to take away".
>the effort
Eh. It's not that hard to make something large, especially when you're re-using the same format the whole time.
>does anyone have any requests for reposts
Do we need any? I've not gotten the impression that lack of CYOAs in the thread is really what ails us. The post rate is pretty fast considering the time.
EYEBEAMS!
Also the idea of an Ice Explosion eye sounds awesome.
I'm not anti waifu just anti authors jacking themselves off.
Another idiot that doesn't know how pdfs work, huh?
I actually get the vibe it's the OP being upset this might distract from his CYOA.
no u
If it's made correctly, all you've got is a colored background, a typeface (because it's always the same one for some reason), and a handful of relatively small images. Way less dense than putting it all into images. And these images, even with shitty compression, aren't that big at all. Go to jpg for the images in the pdf and you might even fit the whole thing in one post.
>because it's always the same one for some reason
Because otherwise you get the goddess/demon femdom design that is much worse.
30+ images in a PDF would look like absolute shit, fool, and only the diaper rash of humanity would tolerate the necessary compression.
Lambda
Fire
Life
Futa
Human
AI Chip
Maintained
Appraise
Save Point
Reincarnation
Time to try to bring some knowledge to this backwater world. It might take me a life time. Hell it might take a several life times of using the save point early on, spending years experimenting and researching before going back and doing it again. But I will drag this world, kicking and screaming, into a long over due industrial revolution. Then after that? I don't know, maybe live a full life, grow old and die without using the save point so I can move on to another world.
Criticism/Feedback:
The point crunch is real especially with each magic costing 10-20% of your points. Actually most things feel really costly. (Not necessarily a bad thing if that's what you are going for.)
I'm torn on how I feel about AI Chip because on one hand it's pretty amazing but on the other it costs 15% of your points. Diddo for Appriase. Gungnir is over priced though. On the other hand Save Point feels amazingly cheap for what it does compaired to other things.
Magic affinities seem a bit overly focused and limited. That might just be from the full extent of what they are cappable on not being convayed well.
If you buy a magic in a world that normally has it then reincarnate into a world that doesn't do you lose that magic or keep it? Is it a "welp I hope you can pay the difference" situation?
When using the Reincarnate Destiny could you maybe buy new things?
OP here. I did get annoyed that something huge was dumped when mine was being discussed, but the posts complaining about it aren't only or mostly me, nor did I start it. I think there's at least three people participating in that.
And it's not mostly that I'm annoyed so much as that with the discussion off of my thing, I reverted to my default behavior of old man yelling at clouds
>I think there's at least three people
A lot of that shit was 1 minute replies, so no, even if I believe you, I think there's just two of you.
I think you're overestimating how compressed it would be although I haven't seen a lot of big detailed PDFs posted here since the file size limit went down some years back, but they weren't being posted in that way anyways at that point.
Although,
>the diaper rash of humanity
Isn't that the target audience anyway?
Whiners are always the diaper rash.
Could be. It's hard to count anonymous people. Looking back at it, your count seems pretty reasonable too, what I was counting as a third person is actually more neutral and comes in after the discussion is mostly underway.
Shut up, you whiny autists
Can water mages get the water out of air?
>The point crunch is real especially with each magic costing 10-20% of your points. Actually most things feel really costly. (Not necessarily a bad thing if that's what you are going for.)
The intention was that most things should be really useful without necessarily needing to have a lot of them, so therefore they ought to be priced high enough that you won't take that many.
>Gungnir is over priced though.
Fair enough, unless others disagree, I'll drop the cost.
>On the other hand Save Point feels amazingly cheap for what it does compaired to other things.
It feels to me like the price should be lower than you'd think immediately since there's no way to have an active save point that you can revert to while also moving the save point up in time, so it lets you experiment and plan ahead but you still have to do without when you're doing things "for real".
>Magic affinities seem a bit overly focused and limited.
I'll add a line in the overall description to make them feel broader, and go over them again to flesh them out. It's probably that I conveyed it somewhat poorly, because they're supposed to be broad.
>If you buy a magic in a world that normally has it then reincarnate into a world that doesn't do you lose that magic or keep it? Is it a "welp I hope you can pay the difference" situation?
It seems like logically you should have to pay the difference or else you can't use it until you reincarnate somewhere that has it. That's kind of un-fun and counter to the idea of isekai though, so I guess you can keep it.
>When using the Reincarnate Destiny could you maybe buy new things?
I didn't really consider that but sure, why not?
Sure. Although it would be harder (more mana) than getting water out of a stream. But I mentioned causing rain which is basically the same thing.
Ok going with
>Lambda
>Air, Life, Astral
>Girl
>Human
>AI Chip, Appraise, Maintained, Chi
>Sword
>Reincarnate
I should have 5k mana left, which should be plenty starting out I would think. I figure Astral magic may be pretty useful in Lambda, at least it sounds like it would be more useful in the areas that are super dangerous than the other types. Plus I got a personal request to basically mix things up there, how could I refuse?
Why not just make it a pdf
pdfs are a sexual minority
>Origin (fuck yeah, Shadowrun-world!)
>Air (FUCK YEAH! FLYING!), Astral, and Life (I'll probably get a job as some kind of ghost-buster)
>Sex I'll stay a bloke, thank you. my pregnancy fetish is about being the impregnator not the impregnated.
>Human/Elf (fuck it, I've already been human, let's live a life that's measured in centuries, eh? Plus, I want to keep my human package.)
Note: is there a cost for being any race other than human or only if you're picking something not normally native to the world?
>AI Chip, Chi x3, Gravity Acceleration x2
>Starship (because fuck yeah), Wealth (Because I don't wanna worry about THAT again)
>Harem (my old world's gone, my family... Fuck it, I'm going to drown my sorrows in the pleasures of the flesh)
Say... actually, can we use the Starship to return to our old world? (I guess it would be a bit of a gamble since godoka didn't say she was necessarily god of our world, and they might not all be all happy with outsiders, namely dead ones, popping up out of nowhere)
