Dwarves or dwarfs?

Dwarves or dwarfs?

A dwarf is mostly just a Dwarve upon reaching maximum ale capacity.

Real talk though.
I know we kid about Dwarves but any race or faction represented in a setting should be more than just DUR HUR LOOK HOW DRUNK I AM.
There has to be a balance between being a race of pudgy, grudge-bearing, beer loving humanoids with out becoming a joke.

Dwarves with dwarfism

tolkien said that "dwarfs" was more etymologically correct and he used "dwarves" by mistake, but it sounds better so it's no suprise.

dwarrows.

Actually Tolkein's editor corrected Tolkein's "dwarves" to "dwarfs" but tolkein later realised the historically correct plural is "dwarrows".

Squats

Humans or men?

Dorfs

Little people

In which language does that make sense? I am genuinly curious, I know nothing of old english etymology

This

DAWI

but really dwarves are cool enough that anything works. except tolkien dwarves who are just annoying back stabbing jews

Dwarves sounds cooler, but you know what's even better?

Pygmies. No one seems to use pygmies, at least that I've seen. Is it racist or something? I genuinely don't know if it's improper to say pygmies, because I wanna use pygmies in me setting.

Smurves, elves, milves, wolves etc

>dwarf - dwarrows
>elf - ellows
>dire wolf - dire wollows
I like it.

Old, OLD Warhammer Fantasy had some based on African tribal warriors.

Dhuorvs

pygmies are just tiny black people

Yeah, I guess they are...I just want creepy little people but they're not fairies.

Anything from before Tolkien? Dwarfs.
Modern fantasy literature, media and gaming? Dwarves.

These are kinda neat, but in modern times they'd be called racist caricatures.

dorafs

they'd just be colored green and called goblins

Dwarfs

Dwarfes

Dorfs

dorfs

dorfmind

svartalfar

Dwemer

peck

duaroughs

Pure evil

>wealthy, immensely wise master craftsmen with a rich culture and good alcohol that bring retribution to those who wrong them
>undesirable

In Dark Souls, they are the antecesors of Humankind.

Dawi

Either is fine.

In anglo-saxon and old germanic languages any word that starts with "F" is pronounced as "f" but any "F" that is in the later part of a word is pronounced "V".

But then again saying "Dwarfs" makes you sound like a Victorian Antiquarian and a cunt.
I.E. "Celt" was given a hard "K" sound to make it more "exotic".

Use Dwarves in pronunciation, Dwarfs in spelling.

>Use Dwarves in pronunciation, Dwarfs in spelling.

Dunno how right you are user but that's what I do so it's good enough for me.

'dwarves' of course, what are we fucking animals?

DWorfs

I really love my language: from "Nano" to "Nani"

Zwerge

I usually see dwarves being obsessed with craftsmanship and clan, which I think is a workable is kind of tired archetype. The only time I really see the ale obsessed thing, outside of jokes, is among players.

>svartalfar
Disgusting.

Dwarfs. It looks better to me.

Dvärg.

>Implying either

One Tolkien mad up, but he was cribbing Old Norse.

Ah, another /dfg/ patrician I see.
