Warcraft Lore and Tabletop

So with the new expansion announced, kinda wanted to bring up a thread since it's getting back to the Horde v Alliance conflict. So far,
>Sargeras is now imprisoned for eternity with Illidan as his jailor
>Damage to Azeroth has caused Azerite to appear, effectively arcane plutonium each side is scrambling for

>The Alliance retakes all of the Eastern Kingdoms south of the Ghostlands, last major conflict is in Arathi
>Stromgarde has been rebuilt as an Alliance fortress
>Alliance is going to Kul Tiras to fortify their navy

>The Horde has burned Teldrassil, taking most all of Kalimdor aside from the island the Exodar is on
>Sylvanas is getting into some hot water with a splinter Forsaken Faction forming in Undercity
>Horde is going to the Zandalari to fortify their navy

>New (sub)races are being brought into the conflict
So how would a modern WC TTG work?

Is this stuff that you want to happen? Or stuff announced for the next expansion?

Stuff announced on Friday.

...

That better be pure Alliance semen in those condoms.

when you say modern, do you mean current expansion, current year (earth?), or d20 modern system?

honestly, I think it would work really well, but it's going to depend more on the GM and their ability to worldcraft in Warcraft than anything.

Wow

I really hope the forsaken splinter faction aren't just super evil. Being able to be a forsaken and not be a giant irredeemable dick is something that's been missing from WoW for a while

I more meant current expansion since I know WoW used to have its own TTG, but as I recall that one was a bit of a DnD/homebrew chimera, and many of the rules might not apply well in the current setting.
Legion actually had a lot of good Forsaken, and the splinter group is apparently forming due to rumors of Sylvanas' less savory expeditions, so chances are they aren't just crazy evil.

I also just wanted to talk about WoW somewhere where it wouldn't get shitposted to death by people who don't play it.

without a copy of the warcraft ttg, I couldn't say. that being said, probably a few systems out there you could easily use or reskin and get a working game going. Hell, just go through the classes once they get updated and you'll have most of what you need to adapt the powers to a ttg

you might want to scale it down so everyone doesn't have 50 abilities though

Wh-why does she have those on her head?

because they couldn't be left in her cat

/v/ thought the gems looked a bit weird.

>>The Horde has burned Teldrassil
This seems... off. Would the Tauren be okay with this? Aren't the fuckhuge trees very important to the health of the planet or something?

He model coming for Heroes of the Storm looks about this thick. It's impressive.

Nordrassil is the important one, and Sylvanas doesn't care what the rest of the Horde thinks.

The problem with adapting the old d20 rpg books to the new setting is that the new settings power creep is so insane that youre better off using a new game entirely wow hasnt been about dungeon delving or adventure since the first expansion its now about fighting demigods

Actually now that i think about it 4e dnd should be perfect

I have no idea what this is supposed to mean
How old is the character design?

The character's been around since Warcraft 2. Pretty sure she only had the elf body since Wrath of the Lich King.

It was released in 2008.

>The problem with adapting the old d20 rpg books to the new setting is that the new settings power creep is so insane that youre better off using a new game entirely wow hasnt been about dungeon delving or adventure since the first expansion its now about fighting demigods

When you're max level, of course it is, as players get more powerful the stakes have to be raised. Being a lowbie is same as it ever was though.

That said, 4e is a good choice as the three tiers of play fit in pretty well.

I assume youve not quested since wotlk, cata made the world way more "epic"

It's just the new writers and people that took over after the actual creators of the game all left. They are systematically removing everything, major characters and locations, tied to old wow. Retconning everything, basically entirely dismantling ten years of world building and lore.

New expansion is PVP focused to appeal to the most loyal segment of their fanbase. New races which are effectively reskins of existing races to try and keep the others engaged.

It's a damn shame to see what had grown into a fairly deep and interesting world being arbitrarily changed by people who have no understanding of it and just want to make their mark with "fresh, new ideas." Even money says Sylvanas is the next to die.

>Even money says Sylvanas is the next to die
Are you implying that would stop her? She's died like four times now.

Pvpers have quit years ago

Their most loyal fanbase are the remaining whales who are only drawn to sex appeal which is why sylvannas is warchief and alliances leader is a fuckboi despite having millenia old characters

Die as in permanent. Probably to a holy light expungement by Anduin like what was in the cinematic. Some dumb shit like that. They've removed almost all the major faction characters at this point. Even thrall retired to fuck off and be a hippie. Jaina is going to do something stupid and self destruct, or otherwise be rendered irrelevant.

It's as bad as GM handwaving "your characters just died" between campaigns.

Thrall is coming back in BfA, Jaina's confirmed to be a major hero in BfA (on top of coming back to Kul Tiras), and even Vol'jin has some dubious things going on where he might come back.

That's the start of the expansion. The endgame always has big dramatic shit happen, remember? Thrall, Jaina, and Arthas were arguably the most significant characters of Frozen Throne. Arthas is dead. Jaina is warped by arcane power and eternally angry at the horde. If thrall is coming back, he'll probably live. Just makes Sylvanas and Jaina more likely endgame deaths.

So, where are the shitty void elves from?

If they were smart about it, and they most certainly aren't, they'd start giving new (and perhaps underutilized old characters) small but increasing roles and moments, so they have a fresh crop of characters to avoid just that problem. Who do the Forsaken even have besides Sylvanas at this point?

>where are the void elves from
Back when the sunwell got dead, the High Elves went into magic withdrawl. Thanks to Kael, most of them ended up tapping into fel magic to keep themselves from becoming Wretched (think withered), but apparently a sections of them went off and tapped into Void magic instead. They got kicked out of the city (for some reason) and now that Allerya is back with her power over the void, she finds them and trains them to retain their sanity. In return, they follow her to rejoin the Alliance.

Are those water balloons? Who ties water balloons to a dragon?

The 'dramatic shit' is Azshara. She's the big name villain of the later patches, and the panel itself said she's the major conflict towards the end of the expac.

She gets overheated easily, they're there if she needs to cool off.

I'm sure they'll pull someone out of their asses. Just look at hellscream.

Azshara has been on the big bad menu forever. Corrupted the elves, created the naga, etc. Whole elf link makes Sylvanas permanent end even more probable. They apparently have hired Christie Golden on as writer/advisor since they have no clue what the fuck they're doing and need someone who is at least passingly familiar with the lore and how to write.

They tie one to her every time she scores!

>even the filename is a pun

It should be. That was certainly the entire fucking premise of WCIII.

>Bwonsamdi and Vol'jin are both chilling on Zandalar and reveal Sylvanas was made warchief as a prank

No, you were defending Nordrassil in WC3, that's the tree in Hyjal.

The Tauren owe the Horde for not being extinct. They've been sitting there and just taking it all this time, because if they don't it's back to running from Centaurs forever.

Being Tauren is suffering.

Considering Teldrassil has been little more than a hive of corruption since its inception, I'm sure the Tauren would be alright with it. Nordrassil is the important world tree. We've seen time and time again that more than one world tree tends to lead to bad shit happening. Vordrassil is responsible for the Emerald Nightmare's inception, Shaladrassil was totally corrupted, Teldrassil has had to fight back corruption more than once.

Shit you mean Worgen get to wup some forsaken ass?

I'd like a genocide or two to make up for Gilneas.

Also Lordaeron is alliance again?

Sorry if repost my browser is goofing up.

More to the point, who's to say that a little fire isn't good for the tree? Burn away the old growth and whatever might be crawling around there, make way for the new leaves.

There is still no believable reason for the Horde not getting wiped out instantly the moment they actually start all-out war with the Alliance
It'll be handwaved with "allies!" if it is acknowledged at all, even though overall the Allies the Horde draws in are at most as much as the Alliance draws in and quite possibly way smaller, not even close to balancing the scales of the massive military and industrial advantage the Alliance holds.

Greymane will bite the dust, consumed by his lust for revenge.

Anduin will quite possibly kill him when he has his big "I am not my father and pursuing revenge is bad, we are actually the bad guys!" moment.

Sylvanas is still a turbocunt, but this expansion will be her ""redemption arc"".

I do hope it's revealed that Vol'jin planned for his death someday, in a lingering spirit sense.

Is anyone else playing in a Warcraft campaign? I'll be playing in a new campaign soon, taking place after the events of Warcraft 3: TFT. Basically, using the lore of WoW at vanilla release.

Thinking of playing a goblin alchemist. Is there any lore at all for Warcraft alchemy, beyond what is in the wikis?

Anybody else playing in a Warcraft campaign, share what's happening in your games.

>Greymane will bite the dust, consumed by his lust for revenge.

I'm expecting him to go feral, basically. Probably as the boss of a five man later in the xpac.

Not enough CORRUPTED.com
Think stupider. He'll probably enter a pact with an Old God or something to get the power to kill Sylvanas.

It'd be interesting if Greymane got his own "redemption arc" insofar as his own possible guilt from dumping everyone after WCII. We could get a nice little scene of him standing in Lordaeron's throne room with Anduin, picking up a dusty crown and wiping it off, seeing the old bloodstains on it, and shedding a single tear.

Anduin walks up to him and pats him on the shoulder and Genn says something like "I should have been there." Maybe it could end with a soldier escorting Calia in despite her protests.

It'd give a more personal spin to this campaign of reconquest.

Rumor has it Anduin's holding back so that he can still try for peace with the Tauren, Belves, and maybe the Orcs.
So you guys never read Wolfheart? Genn's all about the Druid side of being a Worgen, and he's best buds with Malfurion. No chance of him going feral or getting corrupted.

>Also Lordaeron is alliance again?

They sack the city but they can't hold it, which is why the battle lines are drawn at Arathi Highlands.

user, it's modern Blizzard. Everyone eventually ends up corrupted and most of them end up redeemed aftewards (possibly moments before death).

I just want them to resurrect Arthas at this point, to top the shitcake with some nice retard frosting.

>bringing back Arthas
>not calling down Uther as an angel of vengeance

If Arthas could get out of Superhell, Sylvanas' self-preservation would make even less sense than it already doesn't.

If the Alliance commander for the Arathi Warfront isn't Danath, I'll be sorely disappointed.

Bring both of them back, but reincarnated as comic relief murlocs.

>who are only drawn to sex appeal
Thats why they cover everyone up right more and more every expansion right?

Isn't he dead?

WoW would easily convert to 4e D&D.
It's almost as though the game was actually designed with WoW in mind or something.

He had a good death in wc3, leave him to die in peace. I still cant believe they brought back muradin.

I hate that bitch so much, she deserves to die already.

Not to my knowledge.

Alliance [Anduin's glorious empire] strong! Horde leave azaroth now!

Aliens and mutants gtfo. This is our world.

i'm playing one i WoW actually. got myself into night elf rp guild. is pretty fun, even if i miss more sessions than i'd like

>All I ever wanted was Arthas's big D

And she got it.

>Rumor has it Anduin's holding back so that he can still try for peace with the Tauren, Belves, and maybe the Orcs.
I could see it. Hell, back during MoP the BE were "in talks" to rejoin the Alliance. The Tauren aren't a warrior culture, they'd rather into peace. Idk about Orcs though. But yeah, it's time to end the Undead. And Peace does sound like something Anduin would do.

Yeah, this turn based on-the-grid tactical game is totally meant to match this real-time free movement game, because who has ever heard of a grid&turns based tactical computer game?

Who has this happened to?

So with all these changes, are they going to go back and update the old zones Cata-style? If so I might come back and level an alt but otherwise nothing in the expac really catches my interest.

Galen is double-dead, Danath is still alive, he even shows up in Legion, barely. Meanwhile Danath's UNCLE got raised as a death knight.

Fucking seconded!!

He didn't put a bun in the oven though, she prolly regrets that.

Almost as easy as a Regulation Paint Scheme on a WMH thread.

Garrosh is the big one. Kael'thas, Illidan, and Zul'jin are some others, and even earlier with Medivh and the Orcs in general post-retcons. Then were like shit-tons of people in Mists that got corrupted and killed, like the guy who gave you the Kurzen quests in Stranglethorne back in vanilla, and then the Zandalari as a whole went from peaceful historians to warmongers. It's not even nu-Blizzard to be honest, corruption of heroes into villains has been a thing since WC3,

You know, ever since the big one, the corruption angle got stale. I mean, can you reliably top what they did with Arthas?

Haven't played WoW in a while, but still my favorite scene.

The Zandalari in Cata and Mop were led by radicals. Rastakhan has been having to deal with other shit, hence the Horde being able to ally with him.

Garrosh wasn't redeemed, neither was Kael'thas. Illidan wasn't really corrupted in the same way, and Zul'jin wasn't any of that. Same with the Zandalari, there is no hint of corruption there, they just want their empire to be great again and so became really aggressive.

Technically my race was here before yours

So why are Werewolves are working with the kinda of people who normally hate their kind of thing they have going?

As I see it, Rastakhan and Zandalari have finally learned that the only way to regain their former glory is to reach out into the future as the Darkspear did.

It's because Arthas' fall was a gradual thing, and you got to learn about him through an entire game's story. Meanwhile half the new stuff is "lol they went crazy lol." and is mainly used as an excuse to make new loot pinatas, while the other half is not great due to how hard it is to convey a story properly in an MMO. A recent corruption story that they did that I think went off decently was Cordana, but that's about it.

Gnomes are titanforged, Trolls predate Titans arriving.

But you know who trolls don't predate?

By lore the trolls were the first intelligent race on Azeroth, preceeding everyone else by a very long time, except maybe goblins

>a gradual thing

Arthas's fall is encompass in a single campaign, which goes very quickly from him being a bland paladin to him burning shit down to him purposefully burning down his ships and killing the allies he found at Northrend in the span of a couple missions.

Illidan got retconned into being not really corrupted way later though. In TBC he was just losing his mind and attacking everyone because reasons.

Do robots really count though?

Werewolves were caused by Purple Elves.
Purples Elves help them out.
Purple Elves are allied with Humans.
Purple Elves convince Humans to work with Werewolves.

Goblins are yet another titanic creation as of Chronicle, no? Mimiron made'em because he was bored or something.

>being a bland paladin
Nah, his fall is forshadowed from the start and from his voice lines when you click on him. He puts on a face for people but inside he was already fucked.

No, Illidan not being corrupted was around since the invention of his character. Him turning to the demonic was never the same as any of the other examples listed. In TBC he was losing his mind because his plan failed, he nearly died at Northrend, and was now stuck in Outland waiting for someone sent by Kil'Jaeden to come along and kill him.

So if Teldrassil got torched, where the NE's starting area? Gilneas?

Yeah, I don't recall any of those guys being redeemed or evil to begin with.

10,000 years in jail do that to the mind

No Mimiron fiddled around with a pre-existing race of stupid things and turned them into smart things without giving them common sense to go with it

Hence: Goblins

Still Teldrassil. Players only see it burn when they hit 110 and onwards.
>10,000 years of Maiev sexually teasing you every night do that to the mind
Ftfy.
