People's Choice list came out today from TDT here's how the internet voted the top 10
>Codenames
>TtR
>7 Wonders Duel
>Viticulture
>Terraforming Mars
>7 Wonders
>Blood Rage
>Pandemic Legacy
>Pandemic
>Scythe

How does this make you feel /bgg/? Are you itching for another 6 seasons of Pandemic Legacy or would you rather see Puerto Rico reign supreme again? What's your view on Scythe, is it worthy of #1? What's the next game in the top 10 to get a spin-off in legacy or 2p variant that cracks the list? Are we due for legacy Blood Rage, or will Codenames Duet jump up?

Scythe Legacy: The Prequel inevitable

>What's your view on Scythe
Overrated as all hell, it's a 7/10 not a 10/10

>Pandemic
>Codenames

>How does this make you feel /bgg/?
Unsurprised. It's a pleb list clearly influenced by Zee and Sam, as one would expect of a TDT poll of random jokers.
>What's your view on Scythe, is it worthy of #1?
It's a mediocre game at best, good artwork and an excessively dull, draggy play experience. It has its charm points but most games that are decent and similar to either what it presents itself as or what it actually is are better.

>2 pandemics
>2 7 wonders
what the fuck

>Overrated as all hell, it's a 7/10 not a 10/10
True, and I was a bit disappointed for a while, but the components are top notch and my friends love it.

Looking at those games and other stuff in the top 20 (Splendor, Carc, KoT, Dominion, Waterdeep) there's a lot of games that hover in that 70/100 area but they hit the table a lot at every game meetup/convention/cafe/etc. If it's a game you play a lot that tends to be enough for it to kick it up 1-2points.

>He doesn't know about the Charterstone twist ending

plz tell me youre serious

A list for idiots, by idiots, given to us by their king.

Seriously, why does anyone here give a fuck about dice tower?

>How does this make you feel /bgg/?
It makes me feel like the poll is massively skewed.

There's lots of popular normie games (i.e. Quartermaster General) that didn't make the list at all.

I mean, I like blood rage, but like, yeah the rest of the list is snooze

>I like blood rage
It's not a good game.
I don't mind if you like it, I like CitOW and Agricola, it's just not a good game.

well what makes a game good?

I like blood rage and my group always has fun when we put it down, what makes blood rage bad exactly? It's got some interesting mechanisms, has some player interaction, a wide range of players tend to enjoy it

It uses drafting as a balance crutch, the optimum play heuristic boring, and the theme and mechanics don't mesh.

Gonna ask this again but has anyone played Kingdomino or Queendomino? What were your thoughts on it?

Hi anons, I need your help. I've always loved tabletop rpgs and I want to run a game for my GF and her friends. I'm looking for something very simple. Her friends don't have any experience with rpgs. Ideally it would be easy to pick up, last about an hour and fun while capturing the essence of games like DnD Are there any boardgames like this?

Gloomhaven, KD:M, Mage Knight.
The truest experience is Magical Realm but it's twenty years OOP and it's got the kind of design where you can see that.

Did you even read their post? check out the dungeons and dragons board games (castle Ravenloft, legend of Drizzt, etc). That may be what you're looking for

The D&D board games don't capture the essence of D&D, these games do.

Kingdomino. It's a lot weak. Plus the 5x5 thing wasn't explained properly. I was second and I couldn't cover two squares. The one player who'd played besides the guy teaching had been doing it totally wrong (random draw for order every turn). Played one game. Doing 6 piece puzzles meant for toddlers is slightly more gratifying. Would pass.

DnD board games do a lot better job of sticking to the "last about an hour" part though. It's hard to set gloomhaven up/down in an hour

> Gloomhaven
> about an hour
sounds right

Clank! Because you don't know what you're asking and this is what you want.

>Clank!
This meme game really needs to die. Bad deckbuilding, bad board interaction. The whole thing is just a luckfest with cringeworthy theme.

Which is exactly what he wants you fucking autistic sperg. It's "chick" tier "so this is like D&D huh?"

facepalm.gif

>suggesting bad games is a good idea in any situation

So no one should ever suggest anything but Kemet to anyone, ever?

No you're cookin' with napalm.

>implying Kemet is the only good game
This is a real fucked up level of shitposting you've hit, user.

Tonight I realized there's a huge disconnect between what I want to like, and what I actually enjoy playing. I own a lot of games I don't even like, but sounded cool or are beautiful.

I don't give a shit about that list. Also, I caved and bout Barenpark for £29. Did I fuck up?

>bout Barenpark
Did you win?

>How does this make you feel /bgg/?
Codenames - Never played, probably not my kind of game, not into party games and this one looks convoluted.
TtR - I still enjoy TTR quite a bit. It's easy to play and there's still room for some devious strategizing.
7 Wonders Duel - Never played, I am completely over 7 wonders so I dont see the appeal.
Viticulture - Never played but sounds fun to me
Terraforming Mars - Same as Viticulture
7 Wonders - I dont enjoy this one anymore
Blood Rage - Never played, looks unappealing to me. I own Chaos in the old World, like it, and this looks like more of the same.
Pandemic Legacy - Never played, but own and cannot wait to play.
Pandemic - I love pandemic, I'm glad it's still in the top
Scythe - Looks sort of interesting, but I'm not sure about it. Looks a bit kitchen-sink-y to me.

I have no problem with 7 wonders being there, but everything else is pretty much normie gamer choices

I played Kingdomino, it was a really REALLY simple game that plays really fast and the plays are pretty obvious depending on what you're going for. Plus, the luck factor is high because of the random tiles you take out at the start. I played it twice because of how short a game takes.

Gloomhaven and Mage Knight last six to ten times more than he's looking for, specially with noobs. And KD:M is nothing like D&D, in fact it's nothing like any good game it's just a bunch of fetish minis with a grindfest attached to pretend the money you spent on plastic was worth it.
Castle Ravenloft is the fastest-to-learn D&D board game but it still offers a lot of replayability as you use different parties for different scenarios. And if your GF really likes it there's 4 other similar games which all can be mixed and matches for loads of replayability.
If you want more control over the gameplay and character progression there's either Dungeon Saga or Descent 2e.
If you want less control over the gameplay and character progression and instead want to throw expendable adventurers at a deadly dungeon there's Dungeon Quest.

I know the struggle. I love chess and thought I'd love Hive and Onitama but problem is, nobody worth playing with wants to play Hive or Onitama instead of chess, and I don't have fun with 2p games if the opponent isn't at my level.

I also desperatelly want a game to scratch my Final Fantasy Tactics itch and just don't find it. Have tried Krosmaster, Heroclix, Malifaux, Infinity, it's all been a waste of time.

>FFT itch
Have you tried Mordheim?

Not enough unit/squad customization

hence the meme here , it's apparently the only game /bgg/ can reach a consensus on.

>Barenpark
>has koalas
>koalas are not bears
prepare for autismo rage.

I'm in the same boat user, and it applies to so many games. I want to like something crunchy with a lot of mechanical depth, but my brain is as thick as custard when it comes to maths.

I'd suggest just playing Chess using the Knightmare chess cards

Anyone here played Last Friday? I'm a big slasher fan so thematically I'm onboard, reviews liken it to Fury of Dracula which I'm also a fan of, but I don't get to play it enough for my liking. I'm seeing comparisons to Letters from Whitechapel, which I've not played though I can see the similarities between the three games.

Does anyone have any personal insights that I couldn't gleam from youtube reviews?

Check out boardspace.net

They have a lot of board games that you can play (I think all abstracts but don't quote me on that) either against other people or an AI. Hive is one of the games you can play in there

There is an Asian guy in my group who literally can't into 2+3 is five. It's really annoying to play with him because you have to double check every single thing he does. Doesn't seem to affect his enjoyment though.

I on the other hand do maths good (t. engineer) and don't feel like I ever sit there and calculate numbers. I mean I understand numbers and distributions, probability, but it doesn't come into gaming as much as you'd think. I mean I feel like the stuff I see and do/try isn't because of any active application beyond simple arithmetic (this two, that six).

I think you're over estimating maths relevancy.

Maths may not have been the best word to use. It's just remembering everything, this goes for Board Games and RPGs too. I'll forget I have a card that makes X easier, struggle doing it without and then find it afterwards and feel like a moron. When playing an RPG I'll forget a key modifier and what should've been a well executed ambush is me failing to hit the broad-side of a barn, or the party. All the little numbers that make something doable/workable and I forget the most important ones.

>tfw terrible at arithmetic compared to the rest of my group and often when im too slow with adding points to my current score they just tell me where to put it.

That's a pretty dick move on their part

>I mean, I like blood rage
FUCK OFF

I dont know what makes me feel more stupid, spending like 3 seconds more doing the maths myself or having them say the answer before I can do it. Either way I feel like a kid getting egged along by an eager parent. But its not like I can really help it.

I've heard mixed / mediocre reviews of 'Last Friday'. You might want to do more research before buying.

Not tryung to be an ass but have you talked to them about how that bothers you? They may think that you want their help since they're a tad quicker with mental math. Maybe say something like you feel insulted when they jump in for you and you would like for them to let you do the calculations yourself. If these people are your friends then they should understand and back off. If not, then they're assholes and you shouldn't play with them anyway.

Side note: I don't know how you feel about this but what if you brought a small calculator to use?

>the only game /bgg/ can reach a consensus on
There's been consensus in the past before on some games, but /bgg/ used to be a small general. There's also the increasing hype, KS, and just a massive glut of games that fight for domination in categories that used to only have 1-2 decent options.

Bling Bling Gemstone is still the shit though, and any user who doesn't recognize the greatness is lying to themselves.

I have a question for anyone who owns legendary encounters aliens. I was sorting the cards using the card list off of BGG , everything is there except one card from "The Perfect Organism" deck. Can anyone who owns it confirm if they have 3 or 4 "Twin-Mouth Xenomorph" cards in their the perfect organism deck?

Thanks user. I heard some good reviews, but they ended with "I don't think I'd play too much, maybe just once a year at halloween" which seems a bit at odds with the review itself. Would Letters from Whitechapel scratch a similar itch? I already have Fury of Dracula, but that's a very in-depth game and not something you can say "Hey who fancies a game of this?" about, Whitechapel seems to involve a lot less setup but still has the same core gameplay?

>Side note: I don't know how you feel about this but what if you brought a small calculator to use?
A calculator for double digit addition and subtraction. Id be as fast doing it in my head as typing it in. And telling them to not do it would just make it awkward where everyone waits with bated breath till I figure out where to put my score token.

Well if they're blurting out your score they've probably been sitting on the answer for some time and just can't take it anymore, so you're probably slower than you realize.

And I (they) can probably add faster than a calc in this case.

I don't know what to tell you, I mean I probably do what they're doing and I understand "be faster" isn't really an option. I doubt they're really pissed at you but maybe frustrated seeing you struggle (not in an empathetic way).

Either talk about it, look sorry I'm slow be patient is enough if you bring up before game. That and practicing can't hurt- write out a bunch of score like numbers and add them up in spare time, see if it helps.

I lost by two falls and a submission
I love that their reason for including koalas is "Yeah, but people LOVE them, so w/e"

Haven't played Viticulture and vanilla Pandemic is "meh" to me, so I give it an 8/10.

Castle ravenloft seems to be what I am looking for. What about Mice and Mystics?

Would you suggest A Feast for Odin? I've found it on amazon for just 50€, but i am afraid it will end up collecting dust on my shelf after a couple plays. My gaming group is not fond of long set up times and endless turns.

Vit is ok. The aging is a neat mechanic but I don't know if that makes it great or anything. Stl it's well done, pure Euro no rng.

Feel the same way you do about pandemic.

>i am afraid it will end up collecting dust on my shelf after a couple plays.

It will end up collecting dust but not based on your fear. Ultimately there's very little to it. In any game you're going to end up touching on a majority of the aspects anyway. Certainly you could specialise down a particular path except there aren't that many divergents and some of them are just plain bad to go for. After a few plays every further game is going to feel exactly the same. This is probably a once or twice a year at best game if you don't want to end up chucking it out in disgust.

I need wooden cubes, like the actions from village, is there a gooder place than board game geek components search? Like some shitty cheap game with them on deep discount?

Teaching supply websites sell stuff like that in bulk for cheap. Amazon does as well.

I was looking for a game with a similar "tetris mechanic", but meatier than Bärenpark and with an higher player count than Patchwork. Do you have any suggestion?

Not as such. The tetris mechanic is certainly Uwe's chosen one at the moment and AFfO would be the heaviest game utilising it so far unfortunately that's not saying much. Maybe in a year or two if other developers decide to give it a try or Uwe gets his head back in the game and stops coasting

How is the Tetris mechanic?
I don't think I'd care for it

Been looking at heavier worker placement style games lately and this one has got me interested. Anyone have experience with it? Also what are some heavier worker placement games that are good with 2 players?

It's not a terrible puzzle mechanic to have in a game but it seems that games that have it are pretty much relying on that as their gimmick and forgetting to have actual game in their game.

Meatiest tetris game by far is Antiquity

Not a 'tetris' game.

>Not a 'tetris game.
I can't imagine being this stupid. Give whoever raised you my condolences, it must bring them great sadness to interact with you. Then neuter them so they may not pollute the earth further.

>The tiles you place in your city board sometimes are a different shape! TETRIS GAME!

Just get the fuck out you worthless fucking shit.

>placing oddly shaped pieces in a confined area where maximizing said placement is essential to succeeding in the game
>not tetris
I'm surprised you can read.

You know how I know you're just a clueless trolling tard? Image with every post. Thanks for failing, run along now.

>game is using dice
Post things that make you trash the game immediately

>literally nothing to say
>triggered by images on an imageboard
Really enacts my macadamias, user.

I mean games like Patchwork, where every player has a personal board to cover as much as possible with tiles of different shapes. For every square of the board that is left visible, the player incurs in negative score. In these games you can often trigger some bonuses by covering special squares on the board.

> plastic plastic plastic

I spent $30 on meeplesource instead

> Wholesale yak exchange
> not including a yak with every post

There are wooden sets as well, but I guess I can't expect someone to come ask a question as retarded as you did on Veeky Forums instead of just googling to begin with to think to add the word "wood" to their searches. Sorry that you're so fucking inbred that you couldn't be arsed to think before blowing 30$ on 4$ worth of wood.

A fool and his money...

>zombie theme
>random but requires social deduction
>game is all cards but contains take that bullshit

didn't know poors got this triggered over a few bucks

>asked for advice
>ignored it
>wasted money
>implying someone else cares
Pointing out your mistake doesn't mean I feel an emotional response to it. But I understand why someone with your IQ might believe the opposite to be true. Enjoy your day.

Koalas are grumpy shits who sleep 20 hours a day and dislike people.

t. Australian

Crystal skulls is the OP strat. Also too much symbology in this one.

>>Koalas are grumpy shits who sleep 20 hours a day and dislike people.
>
>t. Australian

Is it OP enough to deter enjoyment?

not him, but people will be racing for them every game once they know how it all works. if that annoys you then maybe. you can try to counter everyone rushing for them by ultra specializing but good luck

>Bling Bling Gemstone
Sounds like a nigger game

Wait for Indian Summer. It's the2nd and latest game in Uwe's (same designer for Feast for Odin) Tile Laying Trilogy. Cottage Garden was the first. No idea what the third game is or will be.

>on Indonesian basket weaving message board
>not recognizing Asian naming conventions
It's clearly a gook title

>spend $100+ on a boardgame to play with friends
>play once
>they never want to play it again

stop defending niggers

Because mega-games are more chore to play than fun.

Do you guys think Century: Spice Road or Century: Golem Edition would be better for gaming with normies? I think spice would be, but the golem components seem much better. gems vs cubes.

also curious if anyone here likes mafia de cuba, I am eyeing this.

>Codenames
great game, and outstanding for playing with normies
>TtR
i didnt care for it. not bad, just fine
>7 Wonders Duel
why do people like this? i dont get the feeling of building something
>Viticulture
want to play
>Terraforming Mars
really want to play
>7 Wonders
meh, same as duel
>Blood Rage
thought it was alright, i like other dudes on a map more. Chaos in the old world is one of my favorites
>Pandemic Legacy
im digging it so far, solid choice
>Pandemic
fine
>Scythe
i didnt like it but need to try it again for a fair assesment.

>How does this make you feel /bgg/?
i dont feel anything, this doesnt effect me in any way. i will continue by day to day. but i personally disagree with scythe and blood rage being so high.

i like tdt, personally i like the medium weight thematic games with more player interaction and thats they like (especially tom).
can you elaborate on what you dont like about them?
and yes, I do know the whole staff is a bunch of goofballs and sam is rough around the edges.

Is it not soloable?

Golem is better in literally every way. Spring for the mat, which I know sounds like a lame upsell but it makes it easier for normies to conceptualize the flow of the game.

good to know. and its the same game ya?
do you have experience playing this with normies? I ask because I dont want the fantasy theme to scare them.
i could use a light game like that.

Only buy long setup games you can solo.
