Will allying with an eldar farseer get an inquisitor excomunicated if he (the inquisitor) provides good results and is all-around successful in protecting the Imperium? How much shit can a successful inquisitor get away with, realistically? Pre-ascension can be rough until you reach somewhere around rank 7. But it's all worth it when you go full GAZE UPON THE BRIGHT LORD on the enemies of humankind.

On the DL? Should be fine, do not expect lots of christmas cards from other inquisitors. Openly? Promethium makes bad lube, as you will shortly discover.
Most of the 40krpg systems have the roll method and 100 point allocation method for generating characteristics.
I can't find the latter in DH1e. GM has said it exists, but they're not available to point out where right now.

You're kinda missing the point.
There's the method where you roll for characteristics. Ignore the "roll 2d10+20 for stats" rules for long enough to come around to where I'm at.
There's also the method where you don't roll dice, but have a set amount of points to allocate to characteristics. Where's that in DH1e?
It doesn't exist. You'd need like....250-350 points to have a character in DH

In theory, they can all do whatever the fuck they want but in practice, Inquisitors learn to step lightly, ask politely, bluff convincingly and always have contingencies. They also learn to build networks, power bases and foster alliances far and wide.
An Inquisitor that simply relies on a gaudy piece of jewelry to get the job done is not very long for this world.
