MtG Ixalan Draft Simulation

Now that people have more experience with Ixalan, I figure I'd try another draft simulation.

If anyone feels like taking part, post your first pick from this selection.

demystify

Skymarch Bloodletter

Storm fleet arsonist is reasonable that or the aerosuar.

Bloodletter is the best by far. Pirate's Prize is a far second.

Skymarch Bloodletter picked.

Eh, I'd take delver, aerosaur, arsonist, or paladin too from that. But yeah easy bloodletter

MAVREN FEIN
A
V
R
E
N

F
E
I
N

That's easy. Get Contract Killing.

Mavren Fein. We going Catholic Vampires.

Yes, get a the small guy without any protection to fight against timmy's dinosaurs! Get the card that's only decent if you get 5 more vampires! /s

It's between Mavren or Contract Killing. I think Mavren offers enough potential upside to justify taking it over the removal spell, but it's pretty close.

This format is pretty fast. If you have to deal with bigass dinosaurs you're likely doing something wrong.

Unless you are boros curving dinos, the decks straight lose to aggro.

Mavren Fein, Dusk Apostle is in.

Contract was an unconditional removal for 5 and gives a mana boost. Always get the removals first. You can always pick shitty monster to make up for Mavren, but you can't play well without destructive cards.

I really want cheaper creatures but armasur it is

Deadeye Quartermaster
Steadfast Armasaur
Swashbuckling
Storm Fleet Pyromancer

Uesch. The best card here is likely Tilonalli's Knight or Jade Guardian, neither of which goes particularly well with either of our first two spells. Steadfast would likely make the cut but is also very unexciting.

Take the dinosaur, I guess.

I'm a big fan of Armasaur. But maybe Jade Guardian, Merfolk might be open.

Steadfast Armasaur gets it.

Seeker's Squire. A good two-drop for a hopefully aggressive deck. Vampire's Zeal is also good, but I'd rather make sure we have aggressive creatures to go with it first.

Fathom Fleet Cutthroat or Seeker's Squire.

Squire. It's either a 2/3 or it makes sure we hit our early land drops.

Having removal isn't as good as having a synergistic aggressive deck. BREAD simply isn't that accurate anymore.

Seeker's Squire is in.

Bright reprisal

Mark of the Vampire or Bright Reprisal. Probably Mark.

Mark of the Vampire. Rather have a card that goes well with cheap creatures and tokens than a shitty expensive removal spell.

I say leave your options and 5 slot open. Take the Dire Fleet Hoarder.

Dire Fleet Hoarder
Assuming bloodletter, Fein.
Armasaur
Seeker
Mark of the Vamp

That's the first pick. Now we're drafting this Always look at the last image posted.

Mark is a great card, but BR is not a shitty spell. He would use that card 100% of the time, it replaces itself and shares the same color with Mavren.

That pick was Mark of the Vampire.

Deacon, easily.

It's essentially a combat trick that requires you to telegraph it by holding up five mana. It's a shitty card.

Deacon, no question.

Holy fuck Deacon.

Anointed Deacon picked.

>itt: people who haven't figured out how to have fun in ixalan draft

ignore the tribes, acquire treasure

Queen's Commission or Queen's Bay Soldier.

Queen's Commission goes well with Deacon. Queen's Bay Soldier has a role to play in the deck but is just a Grizzly Bear.

I say Commission.

Queen's Commission then.

Gilded Sentinel, otherwise Skyblade.

Skyblade. Decentish evasive two-drop.

Skyblade, evasion vampires are important with deacon/mavren

Also a good creature to put Mark on.

Skyblade of the Legion has been picked.

Vicious Conquistador.

Vicious

That's a Vicious Conquistador.

You want another one, senpai?

fuck yes we do senpai

Yes please.

Second Vicious Conquistador, in the bag.

Bah. Deadeye Quartermaster though it really doesn't matter.

Nab the fixing, maybe?

Sailor of Means for the memes.

Ew, Horizons I guess?

nice viscous fuck

I say Blossom Dryad. Deprive someone else.

Desprive someone else of a card they wouldn't play anyway?

I'd rather fuck someone out of fix at this point. Some retard is gonna want a fix for their shitty 4 color deck they built or possibly 3 color.

The dryad is good too i guess.

By fixing, I take it you mean New Horizons.

Two for New Horizons, one for everyone else. New Horizons takes it. We've got to wade through the dregs of this pack before we get to a fresh pack.

Totem.

Sentries, in a non-league that can brick some of our dudes.

Yeah, I'd be willing to deprive someone of a blocker at this point. It's not like we're going to run Totem.

I've changed my vote to the sentries.

Demolish. Whatevs.

Headwater Sentries then.

Last choice, should I take this one as a Spreading Rot even though it's unlikely to be played?

Take opt. It's more likely that we pivot into blue than it is to play Rot.

Spreading Rot just because we can -- though we'll never want to -- board it in.

With vicious conquistador continuously pinging hopefully and being weenie heavy yeah, Rot.

Opt.

I'll break the tie and say Spreading Rot. Following that was Crushing Canopy.

Here's the first batch of picks.

And here's the first pick of the second batch.

ugh, so many choices...

Another Mavren... or mark.. or deacon.. or commission hnnnngg

I'll vote in that order I guess.

Blood Fast my niggity nig

blood fast. We are actually in the deck for it.

We are light on removal and late threats but otherwise we are good. I say we aim for the 6 drop flying vamp that recurs or contract killing if the rare sucks.

That's our picks, dingus.

I'm going to vote Aerosaur because I'm a retard, but that's because I'm paranoid the board will get gummed up too easily.

Looks like a decent start. Don't know if we'll actually want to play our Conquistadors but everything before that looks solid enough.

Blood Fast but mostly due to lack of options.

I feel so retarded lol. It's late pls no bully.

Aerosaur for dat evasion

Thats a pic of what we have so far.

Blood Fast.

pls no bully ;_;

Arguel's Blood Fast it is, although I personally don't agree with that over Imperial Aerosaur.

Vanquish the Weak.

Tracker. Also, I didn't see the Aerosaur in the last pack until just now. If I had I would have voted for that no question.

This.

We got some good creatures, let's go for removal so they can attack:

Vanquish the Weak

Vanquish

Unanimous Vanquish the Weak.

Bad pack. Deathless ancient.

Didn't someone want the Deathless Ancient?

I say yes to it. Explore Creatures at 3+ mana make my spit hurt.

Deathless.

Gimme that fat fucking ancient. I don't care god damn it I want that thing!

That's a Deathless Ancient then.

Seeker's Squire. Pretty simple one here.

Ugh, seeker's squire

Nothing really for us. I say that we hate draft hijack.
