It's honestly a fairly reasonable price for a super-heavy tank, considering a Falchion will run you about 750 points. The Astraeus is flimsier than the Fellblade but far killier against other non-superheavies, at which the Fellblade series suffers major overkill problems. Just one would fuck up the shit of any Alaitoc list because of its cannon's wording.

That said I see it being used about as much as the Fellblade, so never.

So is the 50/50 rule on conversions still a thing in 40K?

I have a hard time choosing between Iron Warriors and World Eaters. I want to be able to shoot shit with demon engines and ignore cover saves, but i also want to RIP AND TEAR. But would a mix of those two work? Seems like they both accomplish a specific role but maybe focusing on one would be better idk

Necron are still the first 3, though. They enslaved the horrors, built their own, their motives (they actually have them now) are still mysterious and beyond the understanding of humans, and they're still remorseless and calculating.

Why the fuck would you want new Necron fluff for anything? The 3rd Ed. stuff was in line with their aesthetic - lifeless, barely any personality, just a horde of undead machines trying to destroy all life. No memeshits like Trazyn for 1d4chan to masturbate over, no allying with Blood Angels, no personality. They were a big mystery, a question marked wrapped not in an enigma, but gauss weapons.

And for a faction that is supposed to be heavy on the horror aspect - more mystery is a good thing. Solid storytelling always leave some things unanswered. It's why so many people were bitching about the new Bladerunner movie - it's more entertaining if you never really find out if Deckard is replicant. It's also the reason the best horror movies never show you the monster until the end (or at all), and why the best strippers never take off *all* their clothes, just enough to activate your almonds - imagination and mystery will always be more engaging than just spoon-feeding the audience.

Necrons just got fleshed-out a little, aspects were added and changed and aesthetics were as well. They're still a slumbering horror that can will stars out of existence.

It's 40K. Everyone is an antagonist. Everyone has personality. Nids and Crons were the two factions that were single-minded, implacable, unlike-able, baddies. Their personality came from what their aesthetics evoked - in the case of Nids, the Zerg/Aliens vibe. They didn't need characters with backstory, because nobody playing those armies gave a fuck about that. If you started a Necron army in 3rd Ed., you did it because robo-zombie-skeletons sounds cool to you, or you watched Terminator a lot.
