Lizardfolk 2

Seeing how great and cozy that last thread went i'd love to see the lizardfolk desert society we made get a bit more.....

>time in the sun.

Badum-tish

>Owning artifacts is a status symbol.

>Into house music.

>Into sun and ancestor worshipers.

>Burns their bodies of the dead so they can eternally bask up in the sun.

>Communal basking and river bathing.

>Chattel slavery.

>Great big fan of tattoos and all colorful things.

It was a great thread my dude.
So posting from the other thread, this piece of artwork is one of my favorite lizard renditions and its from some obscure japanese artist that probably mostly draws porn.

AS for the topic at hand, i still dont think a society should be designed for one area only. But if were going with desert:

Why neccesarily an Egyptian like Desert?
Why not something more like Canyonland or Death valley? Think an american desert.

I always thought that american deserts had a special feel to them, there is more a feeling of lonelyness in those, maybe its the dry rocks.

IDK how id discribe it but it feels like Space is closer if that makes any sense.
I guess im going with this because Lizards typically are associated with Ayy Lmaos in fantasy, see WHFB, TES and so on.

Wouldnt you agree that his place looks like its been thrown out of time?
In my opinion this works very well for an atavistic civilization of reptiles.

I can imagine them building grand stone cities below an unforgiving sky, worshipping cruel and bloodthirsty gods that are ever watchfull and ever silent from above.

...

>lizardfolk desert society
Very overdone.

The last thread sort of went with the assumption of there being some kind of Nile equivalent for the lizards to construct their culture of daily baths and that presumably most lizardfolk would live along the (not)Nile river.

Obviously the desert is a very large place though.

At the outskirts of the lizgyptian desert would be vast swaths of low population wastelands where small bands of the well adapted lizardfolk live the nomadic wanderer way. This outland is dotted with the occasional oasis town, or comunity hub built into a rock face or cave(pic related) outskirter lizgyptions gradually lose interest in the cultural affairs of the the great river cities the further you go into the desert. Slaves become nonexistant after a certain paint as no other races are able to survive in the far out wasteland.

Well canyons mostly have rivers, i personally think the egyptian sort of culture has been done to death, while there realy never has been any culture associated with american deserts, high culture i mean.

sorry indians but you arent high culture.

I personally think that a rocky craggy surface fits the aestheitc of reptiles better.

heres an Oasis in such a biome

...

cool pic, thats new to me, where is that from? artstyle reminds me of warcraft i suppose

Yeah it's from warcraft, this picture is from hearthstone actually.
It's a Saurok which is a race they introduced in the Mists of Pandaria expansion.

speaking of warcraft, id argue that warcraft trolls pretty much fill the niche of lizardmen in that setitng.

Furthermore it hink the naga are a pretty cool take on the reptile race formula, they share many characteristics with other evil lizard people also down with beeing isolationist, evil and controlling aswell as worshipping forgotten gods and generaly beeing unpleasant

>Lizardfolk desert society that’s not a tribal Scavenger/Barbarian group

Much less overdone.

Yeah, why not a lizard society based out of the jungles or something?

Or a swamp one!

How about a jungle swamp?

And lets make the desert ones egyptians cause that's super original!

And lets not even try to deviate and imagine a different spin either, lets just slap lizard sphinxes and wacky walks.

kind of what i have a problem with here, i dont like the idea of just nabbing a human culutre and painting over it.

Of course there will always be inspirations, afterall creativity is mostly slapping different things together and see if it sticks, but still there should be something more productive than just taking on a specific culture.

Especialy since it seems to me that its just one user beeing very adamant about it due to Dominions.

>pic related

Heres the character from Champions Return to Arms i talked about in the previous thread

>jungle mangrove swamps on the shores of rivers winding through valleys barely shielded from the deadly heat and piecing winds of the plateaus above by a combination of foliage and strange mists and wind patterns
>a pseudo roman/egyptian/babylonian conglomeration of reptile people with a caste system carve their cities into the cliff walls with complex aqueducts and other water-works to create hanging gardens and cooled areas
>natural geothermal activity provides a hidden, and deadly to the unwary, wealth of chemical components that fuel the civilization's unopposed mastery of "alchemy"

A culture is defiend through interactions with others

A reptillian culture would of course have major difficulties with tha thaving very different kinds of thinking than mammals aswell as having different kinds of ways to communicate, we talked about changing colouration last thread.

Well for what I threw together there from actual posts and sarcastic stereotypes I'd assume they dominate and incorporate into their caste system nearby vulnerable cultures and peoples without straying too far from their canyons and trading with wider markets due to the specialty of their alchemical goods
I'd imagine captured and bought lower-caste mammals would be used for labor, especially dangerous stuff with caustic mineral deposits, and as servants/livestock, maybe have them be less status symbols on their own than managing all assets well is.

Maybe have personal/business relationships be an extension of the caste hierarchy with weak or no familial bonds.
