Hey /40kg/, as money tightens a bit I have to think on how to get the most out of this hobby while managing to spend less. Rather then just constantly lurking Ebay for whatever deal I can find for some of the armies I would like to play out on the table I want I started trying to think of ways to use generally the same models for different armies. The idea ended up surrounding what is actually my favorite traitor legion the Thousand Sons, it being completely based on their pre-heresy models from Forge World and their color scheme.

I was hoping I could use the models for both at the very least the basic Space Marine codex where I could use Sternguard as big stand in for inferno bolts as a base for most of it with the choice of HQ picks being easy to guess and using all the same models for a true Thousand Sons army list from their eventual codex. Maybe even 2 other rules if I really wanted to stretch this farther then I really should by using the models for basic traitors or Grey Knights tho they are not as desired.

Even with Forge World prices if I count it as buying for more then one army then it would overall be cheaper, but I do have a few questions..

Most importantly does anyone know if any of the Thousand Sons sorcerer cabals retained their pre-heresy army and colors canonically and if so can I get a source if you have it?
I can always just write up some lore for it myself but it would be nicer if it already had some kind of basis in the lore.

I am pretty damn sure it is tournament legal as long as I make the weapons on the model clear enough for the person I am playing against but how likely do you think someone would be bothered playing someone they know is using the same models for different army rules at different times?

Do you think this is at all a good idea to go with?
