Are there any really good DM screens on the market these days? Ones with some cool gimmick or whatever that I'll be able to enjoy for years.

Yea, custom. Make your own and add whatever sheets/charts you need plus folders.

Where's good instructions and tips on making custom GM screens.

Step 1: Find someone who will print onto cardboard

What about making your screen out of 3 sections of Masonite connected with door hinges, glue sheet metal to the back and use refrigerator magnets to hold interchangeable notes on your side, while the outward facing side has art glued to it or designs painted or spray painted on?

Something like this would work best.

C'mon OP
Did you not have shop class in high school?
Never built a birdhouse with your father?

Wood. The answer is wood. Make it out of wood.

You can then draw/paint on it and add your own charts from there. Or print out a wonderful picture and glue it to the front and print off the most useful charts and glue them to the back.

I'd build a cork panel or similar in there. Just tack things up.

The best part is I'm sure someone around here has the pdf free so you don't even need to pay the exorbitant price of .

What other cool/fun/silly/crazy ideas could be incorporated into this over engineered, riced, over-the-top GM screen?

-Outward facing infinity mirrors
-Cupholders
-Reading light

What else?

You might be talking to the wrong person.

I think you replied to the wrong port, mate

Book holders and a some sort of incorporated tablet casing?

So, is that popcorn, or...?

DIY, user

My gf recently made her own with wood. I don't know how It's called in english. Here is Balsa wood. 6mm thick. She bought also some 3mm thick to make some desings for the outside.
4 panels with small hinges of 25mm.

Just one note: if you make a 3 panel screen, it will be Z shaped when open, othewise it wouldn't close. That's why my gf made a 4 panel one

We call it balsa in English as well, FYI.

Can you ask your GF for permission to post some pics of her badass GM screen on Veeky Forums to help inspire and educate other GMs?

Would also like to see this.

Oh, thanks
Work in progress
This is the front. Map is in front for the players to see. Panels decorated will have drawings.

Wyrmwood makes a full magnetic DM screen set. Can include a chest of drawers and a dice tower, if you're so inclined. Pretty slick stuff, I enjoy mine quite thoroughly.

Looks very nice!

Would post more but my cellphone is being retarded rn

Aren't there better hinge types for this?

This is pretty badass.
How light/heavy is it?

That version sounds like it would cost a lot, like $40 or more.

Thanks. It weighs nothing, like 300gr. Its balsa after all

>That version sounds like it would cost a lot, like $40 or more.
Don't count on a single section of the screen to be less than 50.

It was meant to be 3 panels, but in the process we realized it would either end Z shaped or non storable. Ended up adding a fourth. To make it 3 panel, you'd need something else instead of hinges, like leather lashes or something more flexible

I feel so stupid, I can make one of these but never thought about it.
Thanks for the idea.

It's called laptop with stuff open.

Or folder with cheat sheets inside

I find Laptops, or desktops with 2 monitors in my case, are greatly improved in utility when supplemented with a GM screen and 3 ring binder that hold charts and other into such that they aren't competing for monitor real estate with alll the other notes and tools I have open.

What kind of hinges are those?

>To make it 3 panel, you'd need something else instead of hinges, like leather lashes or something more flexible

So lacing up the joints like each was the back of a corset?

>was meant to be 3 panels, but in the process we realized it would either end Z shaped or non storable

Do they not make double hinges small enough?

Kinda want to build a Castle for a GM screen. Rule notes and quick references as banners.

The gm of one of my groups has 4 monitors in his game room set up as a GM screen. Three face him and a fourth faces the players and shows stuff he wants them to see.

>Prontera
is there some Ragnarok themed RPG I've missed?

The screen for the new edition of Unknown Armies doubles as a sleeve for all of the books and is one of the few nice things I have to say about that game.

That sounds nifty, user

Yes, piano hinges that you can just cut to the right length. If you want a double hinge like one user suggested you could attach the hinge faces together somehow so the pins are opposite each other.

I got some sheets of backing board because it's light and tough, better than the thick card that most shit is made out of. I cut them into a size about 2cm wider and 2 cm higher than A4. I then attached them together with strips of canvas about 2" wide, gluing and then stapling them down to create the hinges. This creates an incredibly tough, resillient hinge that's never going to wear out. In order to actually have the stuff for screens I just cut the white holed part off some plastic ring binder sleeves and then taped them in with double sided tape. This thing will last basically forever

The Hammerdog ones. They're black plastic with a pocket on either side. Stick whatever you like in the pockets. Maps, system notes, tables, porn, whatever.

My issue with the hammer dog screens is that the material (vinyl) between the screens tends to be thin and somewhat weak which means having to reinforce the 'hinges' with something.

Please tell me this exists?

Some of 25mm. The ones used to make little jewelry boxes. There are even smaller ones.

Honestly, never thought of it. Didn't even remember them. I don't know if there are small ones.

She's creating a DnD 5e Ragnarok themed with slight modifications for flavour mostly.
We are also working in creating the Blacksmith class since there isn't anything similar existing.
Basic mob was already done, but there will be just a couple of, mostly to make it feel more realistic en less of a Veeky Forums

But which wood to use? A beautiful rosewood? Sturdy oak?

I was thinking of leather straps but the lacing sound awesome too

I guess you could bolt two hinges together for the same effect?
Might need to carve channels for the bolt heads in the other leaf so the thing closes flush though

I was gonna mention using those school binders with pockets on the inside and see through pockets on the outside for interchangeable art on one side and charts on the other. I print out fitting art based on the campaign and it works great.

But yours would look way cooler

...

That makes my peen hard

Came here to post this.

can you share pics of your setup? I feel like keeping the binders from falling over would be a pain, but maybe I'm missing something about this idea.
Do you store anything in the rings of the binders use to make your GM screen? Like bag for your dice or writing supplies?

>Came here to post this.

Post what?

>Can you ask your GF for permission

Cleric of the Forge from XGE for the blacksmith?

Cheap Poundland/Dollar Tree clipboards with hinges made of duct tape. Clips on the inside for your notes, glue punch pockets or paper art to the outside. 4 panel for good folding but 3 panel will fold flattish with wide hinges. Reinforce the whole thing with more duct tape or self-adhesive plastic sheeting.

excess plywood from a shop or construction site?

Checking it rn. Flavourwise doesn't fit tho, since this is a half caster half melee, but it looks powerful enough to make a try. Thanks

more pics plz. closeups of panels and maybe a view from above and also how it looks folded up from different angles.
