Night Shift in Space

I'm going to be running a special one-shot for some buds IRL Xmas week, and I could use some help figuring out some stuff. Namely, what sort of crazy/creepy/unnerving stuff could happen on a FTL Starship? Ideally less of Event Horizon and more of Night Shift stuff, if that makes any sense.

>Namely, what sort of crazy/creepy/unnerving stuff could happen on a FTL Starship?
The crew are one of the worst things that can happen to a starship.

Ancient mold from left out food during crypto-stasis grows sentient and forms a primal society that isn’t as threatening as it first seems and the crew has to muck it up and eject it from the ship as mothers cower with their mushroom children.

One of the passengers eats with their mouth open .

>FTL uses special Hell energy like in Doom
>has a dedicated Demon Janitor who is basically Doomguy except also regular janitor

Toilets are overflowing and gravity modules malfunction right afterwards.

>Serving at the only 24/7 shop on-board the ship
>It's the dead of night
>Something shambles in
>It's some fucked up amalgamation of other people you've seen on board mixed into a mass of putrid flesh
>There's one head in the middle which looks like no creature you have ever seen before
>"Hey, I heard this was the only place that was open at this hour."
>"Have you got those little fruit flavoured things? What are they called... fruit bites?"
>Although it has a slight accent, you can understand it perfectly fine
>All while it's talking to you, the human faces embedded into its flesh are mouthing as if they're screaming
>You're trying to keep a straight face as they look at you, silently pleading
>"Hmm... And what was that other thing? It's a drink they usually serve it at cinemas, with that weird thing called popcorn?"
>You ask if he means cola, trying not to let fear creep into your voice
>"Yeah, that's it!"
>He hands over coins made of precious metals, with a mintage you've never seen before in your life
>You don't know if it's actually worth two large bottles of cola and a bag of fruit bites, but you don't care
>Content, it leaves the shop, all while you're sweating bullets

>The crew have learned to avoid areas with a wet floor sign for a very good reason

Perhaps said toilets are clogged with unidentifiable meat? That way it's blood and bits of chunky gore that's now floating around in zero g.

This is really good.

What sort of crazy/creepy/unnerving stuff could happen on a FTL Starship?

A group of non-whites got on board and start bix nooding.

Can't go wrong with the Staring Woman.

Skinwalkers, alin skinwalkers

There was this one movie where the people wake from cryo sleep to find they're early and monsters are on the ship, they go on a crazy ride to get the cryo sleep back on and realize that they arent in space but crash landed in water at the end. It was forever ago though so I could be just dreaming it up

Pandorum.

>The Clown and the Mime are at war.

>Janitor slowly develops homicidal OCD.

>Preacher insists he is receiving messages from an angel and invites you to witness its manifestation.

>Shipping/Receiving insists they are their own nation; fabled CARGONIA!

>Space Wizard arrives; claims bar as his sanctum.

>Eerily silent botanist capable of growing anything. ANYTHING.

>Clown and Mime join forces.

Basically any player interactions from SS13.

...

>saying Xmas unironically

bumping

>The radios sometimes receive transmissions from an apparently failed Russian space program over a century ago despite modern vessels using FTL communication systems that shouldn't pick up such signals

>False readings from engineering suggesting imminent critical failures in major systems.

>The airlocks occasionally go into "open" cycles complete with a positive life sign reading within them though no one can actually be seen inside or leaving them once they open into the ship.

>working long hours will cause hallucinations like occasionally thinking you found evidence the medical wing have been conducting experiments on passengers in cryo sleep.

>sometimes the lights flicker down long hallways and you think you see a lumbering figure in a space suit pass through the shadows.

The ship was used by smugglers before you brought it. As a result, there are many hidden passages in your ship. Sometimes you can hear noises from those passages, but no lifesigns are beeing read. You'd write it off as some kind of machinery echoing around, but those noises also happen when everything is turned off.

>He bought a ship
>didn't sweep it for mini-drones

Seriously?

>Sometimes when you walk over grating, you keep hearing footsteps behind you, they persist for some time after you stop

>it never happens during any crucial moments, but sometimes all the lights just go dead in the ship and stay off for several minutes. Ship diagnostics never say anything is wrong

>despite the best efforts of the cleaning and medical staff, there's always dried blood on a few beds. Sensors detect nothing suspicious about it but it happens even when new beds are bought.

>Occasionally, you'll hear an AI voice speak over the ship's PA. The ship either doesn't need and lacks an AI, or it is not the one already installed.

FTL has some pretty good stuff.

This is a Random Event. Occurs in:
Zoltan Controlled Sector
Zoltan Homeworlds
in a Nebula.

Inside this nebula you detect a rogue planet drifting through space, on its surface a huge monolith visible at this distance even to the naked eye. A Zoltan elder hails you from the planet. "Through luck or intent, you have discovered the Great Eye. Look into its depths and receive your just deserts."
As you approach, a kaleidoscope of colours fills the view-screen and one of your crew begins to age rapidly in reverse, eventually disappearing into nothingness. Let's hope they've transcended physical existence, and not just been forced out of it.
