what corny eighties-90ies cyberpunk movies to prepare. i recommend the original blade runner, 1984 and johnny mnemonic. have fun!
Also Robocop.
Can also add Running man and Total Recall for maximum cheese.
Don't make it all combat unless the whole group are a relevant variety of Solo. Encourage the hacker to use the Menu most of the time and minimize deep net runs.
Reduce skinweave to SP 6 or 8. Reduce armored jackets to SP 8 (light), 10 (medium), 12 (heavy) and flak pants to SP 8. Or keep everything as it is an introduce HV ammo (divides armor by 4 and inflicted damage by 2) - HV ammo is highly illegal and lowers reliability by one step (UR weapons automatically jam and have a 20% chance to explode inflicting damage to the shooter).
All you have to do with armor is use the rules for degredation and diminishing returns on stacking. Normal AP ammo will quickly chew through armor if you use all the rules. Plus thr rules for double damage headshots, max damage point blank shots, and an unchangeable 8 head HP.
Even the dinkiest little pistol will fuck you right up if used right.
Yes. Make sure no PC stacks cyber armor with heavy outer armor, becoming practically unkillable without bringing out the really heavy guns. Maxing out on armor can get really bad.

Start reading up on some Cyberpunk classics too. I also recommend The Stars My Destination.
I never used armor degradation rule (slows down combat), and I never used the special armor stacking rules from Listen Up You Primitive Screwheads (1. didn't have access to the supplement back then, 2. don't find them good anyway, 3. slows down gameplay - have to check the chart each time the character dons a different armor suits and it gets even worse with armor degradation).
Personally I find that just adding one more type of ammo (HV) is enough. First, it doesn't slow down gameplay at all. Secondly, it makes corporate and governmental troops even more deadly, because they are the only ones who have access to it.
Perhaps the most valuable advice I can give to you, OP, is to first play the game as it is out of the box. Don't add rules, don't modify stuff, play it as it is. After a couple of sessions you'll see what you don't like and what you want to change/improve. Then, building on your experience start introducing house rules, sparingly.
was all about rules. Now comes some advice regarding the universe.
In my opinion Cyberpunk 2020 is a hodgepodge mix of different influences that don't specially mix well together because the source material is too heterogenous. Neuromancer (technology), Hardwired (technology), Blade Runner (ambient, aesthetic, technology, space colonies), Robocop (aesthetic, technology), The Warriors (gangs), Escape from New York (combat zone & gangs), Mad Max II & III (gangs), Bubblegum Crisis & A. D. Police (ACPA, CYBEX, Max-Tac, humanity), Megazone 3 (ACPA, gangs), Akira (gangs), Appleseed (technology), Black Magic M-66 (technology), Streets of Fire (gangs), Running Man (ambient), Death Wish 3 (gangs, vigilantes), Outland (space colonies), A Clockwork Orange (gangs, ultra-violence), Rambo (troubled vets, lost war), Taxi Driver (low life, vigilante), Cobra (aesthetic), Red Heat (Soviets), Black Rain (Yakuza), Year of the Dragon (triads, chinatown)...
I'd try to have a somewhat more streamlined and coherent approach regarding content and aesthetic. Instead of making a gigantic collection of cyberpunk images, try to focus on just a few that are similar in style.
Don't forget the nomads.
Silly me, Mad Max II & III was for the nomads.

Fair advice but OP still needs to keep an eye on PC armor not stacking too high.
That’s something he’ll discover soon enough and then he can look for ways to correct it. There is no need to rush.
In all the years I DM’d Cyberpunk 2020, I implemented lots of rules. Now, I dropped almost everything and play it almost as it is out of the box.

Hey, let’s exchange a medium crunch system for a even crunch-heavier system.
Also, what a good idea to have a lengthy character creation system in a high lethality universe!
I'll take "i have no idea what i'm talking about" for 200 please.
If it's your first game, try to limit your players to any classes except netrunner. Netrunning is a giant bitch to play.
