I'm guessing that people are still busy assembling/painting/playing the core box (or tooling up for Gang War). That or ignoring the new rules and sticking with community edition.
Tell me about Goliaths how should my strategy be with them? My friends want me to play but I've only played twice in the old game and doesn't know much about their strength and weaknesses beyond that they are beefy dudes.
Yeah probably, I'm just really curious to see how is it. I guess patience is the only way.
Sorry man, I have zero experience with Goliaths. I used to run Orlocks and Arbites back in the day. As much as I can figure out, close combat is their best option (I might be wrong though). Someone will probably give you better advice.
They are beefy dudes. In the old game that meant the skills they picked up focused on being strongk. In the new edition that means they are Strength and Toughness 4. Combined with their unique wargear they're explicitly focued on close range fighting.
Assuming you're going up against Eschers in a tunnel fight, your best bet is to get into melee and murder them. You're generally not as good at shooting at them since your guns are generally shorter range, have fewer accuracy bonuses and only your leader has BS 3+. That said, when you do hit you'll probably put whatever you hit down. You'll also have a grenade launcher, which is extremely good and you should try and protect. You can only shoot the closest target unless you pass a Cool check (your strength, Escher weakness) or a more distant target presents an easier shot.
Escher's main trick is chemical warfare in the form of gas grenades and a toxic chem thrower, so keep an eye out for models with those weapons and make sure you have your respirator equipped dudes paired off against them. When you get into melee you're probably going to win, but be wary of being ganged up on. That means penalties for the outnumbered and bonuses for the side with superior numbers.
Also, general advice, but try to always be in cover. A lasgun might have a low chance of doing serious damage to your dudes, but it will pin them if it hits, slowing you down and giving your opponent some time to do something that stands a decent chance of killing you. Try not to get flanked either. You've got better armour, but only if you're being attacked from the front.
Core rules are solid, albeit with a few ambiguities. Rules for 3D terrain are only a few pages long and decent. The problems now are the campaign being a bit threadbare (not enough options for gangs, gear and other things were know are coming, like hangers on and hive scum) and that the in-box matchup feels like it very much favours the Goliaths.
Thanks for the info about rules man. I guess that campaign section is difficult to flesh out when you don't have all the gangs. Which sucks because that is the core of the game (imo). Welp, we'll see how it goes. It's just that I really want it to be successful like in the old days, I'm just not convinced it will be...
The situation around gangers being unable to change their weapons and having to start with things from the gang's wargear list seems odd to me, more like it's geared around the plastic kit than gameplay. I'm not likely to pick up the game until another couple of gangs are out, but is there any reason why it would cause game issues to houserule it so that gang members could be equipped with any common items from the trading post at creation and can swap out their kit as you buy more stuff?
They've said that this isn't the only campaign they'll be releasing, just the Gang War one. Andy Hoare (head dev) said that they don't want to release rules for gangs before they've got the miniatures out, given how GW works by designing the minis first and then rules being written around them. On the other hand it also means we'll be buying Gang War 2 through 5 as each of the remaining House gangs are released over the course of 2018.
If they don't fuck people off with the release format I think we'll be in a good position for "proper" Necromunda this time next year. The models are solid and the 2D tunnel fight tiles, while not "proper" Necromunda, do make for a good set of alternative scenarios you can mix things up with. This all relies on people sticking around and buying into it, of course.
It's 100% shaped around the plastic kits. I imagine they don't want to make chopping up minis you've already painted and played with a regular thing, and from my abortive experiments with the two existing plastic kits magnetising the arms is a pain in the arse.
I doubt most people will have an issue with taking common stuff from the trading post in a starting gang, though that does open up gangs starting out with a load of fancy gear or potentially buying stuff cheaper than their House list might let them. Letting everyone swap gear also changes the economics of the game a bit (no need to hire a new ganger to use that new gun you just bought). Again, I suspect most people will be fine with it, just that it will change how the campaign functions a little bit.
Some interesting terrain I stumbled upon on the internet.

Was gonna ask what sort of terrain piece has a roof on it, but that's a pretty fantastic display board.
I took it from this guys blog: battlebunnies.blogspot.rs
They also report the release schedule to be Orlock-Van Saar-Cawdor-Delaque, which is what I've heard elsewhere. Might just be the same rumour spreading around, of course.
>putting themselves before the needs or the group
They all deserve the rope
Found this down in the comments. Was expecting a sprue/cast of bare weapons, but it sounds like the heavy weapons are being paired up with arms at the very least.
Can an Escher juve take a Stiletto Sword, or is it knives only for juves?
Be a good sport and do what you preach. Go buy that rope. If you can manage that, you should have been able to get the book.
>given how GW works by designing the minis first and then rules being written around them
We sorta have chapterhouse to thank for that...ever since that lawsuit GW has tried their utmost to not release rules that had no models for them to avoid a repetition of that incident.
Scans fucking when?
Where are our vodka friends and their precious scans?
Russian connection is silent on the subject. Awaiting further instructions.
Read the fucking rules.
>An Escher juve starts with no equipment. They can be equipped with Pistols and Close Combat Weapons, but cannot be given any weapon that is worth more than 20 credits.
>Stiletto Sword ... 35 credits.
i haven't seen anyone posting their goliaths in the last few days only escher
so here's my goliath leader i painted today
I'm not going to buy a 100€ box set containing gangs i have no interest in to receive something that should be available seperately.
it will eventually, once all the core gangs have been released
they aren't going to risk another Chapterhouse situation
There literally could not be another chapterhouse situation because they actually have plans to produce models. Please stop using "uurrrr chapterhouse" to excuse every single instance of GW doing something anti-consumer.
There's some truth to it - if GW names a unit but doesn't release a model for it, they have far less legal protection if someone else releases a model first using GW's unit name.
Except that isn't true. What's true is that they can't be awarded damages due to sales of a miniature based on their IP if they don't produce and have no intent to produce a miniature for that character. They cannot claim a loss of revenue because there was no potential revenue for them.
This is why the were not awarded damages in the chapterhouse case.
In this instance they do have intent, which they have stated and can prove, to produce those models and at this stage likely have every single gang already designed and are waiting on manufacturing.
"Because chapterhouse" is not an excuse here.
in this case that IS the reason they are doing it bit by bit
and limited factions is EXACTLY how Specialist Games were released before they died
the FULL rulebook, with ALL the Core Gangs and all their options, will come out once all the models are out
and yes Chapterhouse (and, to a lesser extent, it's less infringing ilk) IS the reason why they switched to models THEN rules
they don't want to risk it, getting involved in a Lawsuit doesn't do Nu-GW any favours and burns away goodwill they have built up
Noice! 7/10 would meat grind with.
You can thank your burger comrades constantly talking shit and chasing them from this site. I could go to 2ch to try and find this stuff, but still unsure if I want get back into this game.
Yes, I know that is why they ended up doing this thing. I was elaborating on why it's not rational when they actually have a planned product line. Essentially they are perpetually butthurt that they couldn't get money out of someone for making a product they didn't even want to make themselves. The situation then isn't even close to being equivalent to the situation here , but they're still applying this logic even though the worst case scenario doesn't even constitute a loss of profit.
Not that guy but I just want the flfuff
they are paying attention to things, this way round will cause less of a hit in public perception (that they have been working on improving) than having the fight of someone trying it again
there isn't just the immediate focused financial impact, there is the impact from the whole situation across the board
they have caught up to the idea that they aren't the only players in the game anymore, and they are actually acting like it
Models before Rules is a far safer way to handle it based on how the law treats the situation
The same things have different costs in Gang War compared to Underhive. What the fuck, GW?
balancing?
gang war costs are for campaigns and underhive costs are for 1500 point skirmish games
i think they are different because there are weapons which are better in a campaign and some are better in one off games
Elaborate, please? How is a Goliath with a shotgun in Underhive different from the same Goliath in Gang Wars?
they aren't really the same game, they are two different games built on the same core rules
how you play them (as in the meta game not the flow of game-play) is different
In the base game, Champions and Leaders get one skill, gangers get none, in actual campaigns, they can all get additional skills. But no matter your stats or your skills, the combat shotgun is always fucking fantastic, whereas stuff like the Krumper is utterly worthless on models that don't have the "Ignore Unwieldy" skill.
You don't have a clue what you're talking about. That's not how it works.
I see.
Thank you for your assistance.
>even though the worst case scenario doesn't even constitute a loss of profit
Not so sure about that...before, chances were if there were rules for some model you wanted to use (say Lady Malys) and no official GW model, you kitbashed one using mostly GW parts. If you buy 3d party, you don't use GW parts at all.
This isn't something GW acknowledges, see the example of the Looted Wagon. Typically this was something people kitbashed, commonly from a Leman Russ, but GW removed Looted Wagons anyway. Another example is the autarch wargear debacle.
At a corporate level GW just don't acknowledge conversions as a driver for kit sales.
>At a corporate level GW just don't acknowledge conversions as a driver for kit sales.
Which is kind of hilarious, because it means they didn't notice that for years the only reason people bought Fantasy Crypt Horrors was to turn them into Dark Eldar Grotesques
Not understanding their own product or customer base and general obliviousness to the world outside of their office has been a GW hallmark since the early 2000s.
Yup. The tipping point for me was when they changed the website from an actual web presence to a glorified online shop.
Though I will say that it changed a bit after Kirby fucked out of the captain's seat.
>Want to look at/try out the original necromunda rules.
>Literally not provided anywhere but a shitty pay-only pdf site.
Yaktribe? You know, the site where you need nothing but a free account you can make with a 10 minute mail address? The site that hosts the Community Edition rulebook, which is pretty much the most up-to-date version before Underhive came out? The one that's right in the FUCKING OP, you retard?
>original necromunda rules
>Community edition.
Reading is hard.
Golly, turns out they also have the original rules, dipshit, but searching through a website sure is hard, huh?
I have the updated rules from 2003. Would those be acceptable?
wargamerau.com
Here you go.
Seen it. The main original rulebook isn't available from that link.
Has anyone ordered from Promethium Forge? How long do they usually take to ship?
I thought about getting sector Mechanicus terrain. I was told it was 5 inches tall per floor. With movement being 4-5 inches, is sector Mechanicus stuff too tall for necromunda?
The GW scenery costs and arm and a leg. So not ideal to cover a table with.
What other alternatives do you guys know of?
Moving is a simple action, you can perform two simple actions per model’s activation.
You can double move to climb.
I heard that rules for chaos cult, and genestealer cult gangs were going to be released in an issue of WD.
I forget where I saw this, anyone know what I'm talking about?
Yeah, you are right. I can't give you the source at the moment but I think they said it on official Necromunda facebook or something like that. Rules will be in WD and they will base the gangs on already existing boxes.
BoLS had a thing up about it.
Lots of cross over with Infinity terrain. Industrial terrain is always a winner. Check out Sarissa, Bandua, Systema, Shark Mounted Lasers.
The cheaper the better, more the better. Check out some of the cheaper table bundles.
Promethium Forge if you're looking for very dense terrain.
Wargames Tournaments if you're looking for larger terrain. (The bottom image you shared is from them.)
The problem with Infinity is most terrain for it looks like shit or full on weeb.
Very true. There are some nice choices out there though, and keeping an eye out for the good stuff is worth it.

I can post scans in about 24 hours. This shit lighting is the best I can get without glare obscuring text, tho. I've never seen paper this fucking glossy. Worth posting it? Have Gang War 3d rules for starters.
...
And by scans I obviously mean shaky hands phone photos.
...
Last one for now. I can do the rest and pdf them up tomorrow if there's interest. Not asking my cock to be sucked, just needing to know if the effort will help enough people to be worth it.
>56704196
Cool anons, altho you might need to make a new thread tomorrow tho.
Would definitely be much appreciated!
Hey, there's the Warhammer Community site now. Still not hosting forums though because, honestly, why would you dig a pool you know is going to be filled with toxic waste?
It's something that multiple Open Day attendees have posted about, so chances of it being accurate are pretty good. A low cost option for adding some diversity to the game since GSC and Cultist kits already exist, with the latter also having loads of options for conversions.
How do you stop MDF terrain from looking like garbage once it's painted?
I dunno, somebody seems to have some a pretty good job of turning Dakka into a fawning echo chamber of stockholm sufferers and militant fanboys, so it's clearly possible.
That's the first time I've heard Dakka described as such. Everyone else discribes them as the 40k edition of the glittering jewels of hatred.
good music
Paint it properly. If MDF isn't painted well it looks even worse than if it wasn't painted at all. An airbrush massively helps out.
It would be very much appreciated if you could do this, user. Thank you!
How would you even move models through that thing?
I have both the books if you are missing anything.
Each floor can be lifted off.
Oh, alright. That's fine, then.
A PDF would be EXTREMELY appreciated. It will be the best we've got so far (which is nothing).
Are there any decent battle reports for gang war yet? MWG has all their shit behind a paywall, and so is the GW Twitch.
>implying I won't suck your cock anyway.
Sealing the MDF before painting is a good idea. Watered down PVA glue and good quality paint usually does the trick. A lot of MDF scenery pricing is volume based and so you can get some nice 2-4-1 deals on gantries and staircases.
Cheers, I find it hard to find good Necromunda music but it helps when I'm weaponizing my autism to make legacy gangs.
Yeah, definitely. There's only so far I can go with the legacy gang PDF. BTW, is letting gangs purchase from the Trading Post too much during gang creation?
I'm thinking that maybe allowing for gangs access to any Common items from the Trading Post during creation wouldn't be out of line.
By the sounds of it with the weapon sprues from FW and the updated weapon lists that are going to be in GW2 I'd imagine it'll be somewhat like that soon anyway.
MWG's underhive stuff is 6 eps of "Escher player gets rolled over, becomes increasingly salty."
Not sure if that's just down to the bad matchup or if they were getting rules wrong too. Someone said that they were letting you move into melee without Charging, but I didn't check myself.
Looking for gang war stuff. The 2d is pretty unbalanced
seconded anyone has Gang war ? My main concern is number of weapons in Esher and Goliath - does gang war give you more weapons and stuff ?
No it's pretty much the same weapon choices as Underhive but with different costs.
There is an expanded armoury in the Trading Post. This is why people are contemplating allowing access to it during gang creation.
As I said before, I think allowing access to all the Common items during gang creation would be fine as the costs are somewhat standardised.
