/WIP/ Secret Santa, 2017 edition: (please note it is now 1st December - so any new applicants will probably get placed into wave 2)
>Do I receive a confirmation after signup? Yes, I send 'em out as soon as I see the email, shouldn't take longer than 1-2 days. If you got none til then, resend a mail.
>What shall I include in the email? Well, your address, obviously. Also, your name if you're not 100% sure that you receive packages without a name. You also can include what you are collecting etc, but don't expect to get something related to that 100%
>What shall I gift? I don't know, use your imagination! You can check last year's SS here: imgur.com/a/1fxhq
>How much should I gift? Well it should be at least 10-15$ in value, so that it is worthwhile all the hassle. But you can also go higher and nobody will say a thing if it's only 7.85$. It's the gesture that counts. I'm sure you find some cool stuff in your bitzbox, too.
>When do we get our matches? The matching will take place Dec 1st and after that, you'll receive an email with the address of your match
>What about shipping costs? I try to do continental matching, so they shouldn't be too high. If you specifically want someone from another continent, I also try to arrange that!
>What do if I get grinched? Email me and I'll try to contact your match. If we can't sort it out, he'll get put onto the naughty list. Often, we find kind anons jumping in and sending something to you in this case!
>Why the fuck are we doing this? Because /WIP/ is literally the most wholesome online community.
>Do people sign up from country XY? Most people sign up from NA and EU, but also from Australia, Japan, whatever. If you only want to participate of someone else from your country registers, you can ask in advance, just shoot an email.
Connor Hughes
Does anyone know where the head on pic related is from?
Jace Walker
Just a regular Space Marine head with a greenstuff beard and hat
Anthony Williams
Finally finished converting my Kommando nob for SW:A campaign. He is magnetised.
Jaxson Howard
>Someun’ oughta do somethin’ about that Marbo git, and that someun’ iz me!
Caleb Lopez
...
Jaxson Ortiz
you need to grab some green army men and refine your priming technique, it sucks. paint job is good though. frustratingly shameful
Xavier Robinson
Whats wrong with this priming?
Christopher Reyes
It looks bit grainy, especially at the base. Great conversion and painting work tho!
Wyatt Green
Ah, I see. To be honest, a lot of my models have this grainy thing going on. Am I priming with a can too close?
Oliver Young
...
Nolan Evans
Grainy is usually spraying too softly, in a too damp or too cold place.
Missus sent me to upstairs to make myself a hobbycorner. Just made the shelf for paints. Still need a cabinet or two and it's starting to be pretty good.
What does everyone else's workstations look like?
Levi Stewart
dont lie lad thats ur shed
Brayden Jenkins
Why would I ever lie on the internet?
Michael Thompson
That's a very nice hobby corner. Mine is just my everyday desk with hobby stuff pushed to the back and brought to the front when I'm painting.
Kayden James
Started to do the matching in join me and roll if you want to
Ethan Sanchez
My gorkamorka mob is coming along nicely, quite happy with the little goblin mek, can't wait to get him painted.
Christian Collins
Tried something new and attempted marble stormcast. First model i tried to kinda freehand and wing the whole thing. Any comments and tips to improve??
Grayson Torres
How does this work?
Jaxon Smith
Thank you for your effort sants user but it is not really that exciting to see t,random numbers to match other numbers. Even with the context there isnt much to discuss really.
It would be great if you can give us a participant by country numbers after you finish matching though.
Angel Gutierrez
>he is allowed to paint in his cuckshed
Angel Stewart
No it really isnt. Will post statistics when im done.
Jacob Gray
paints used?
Luke Lee
>missus
You need to go back
Matthew Hall
I CAN'T FUCKING WAIT
David Nelson
...
Christian King
Wanted to say thank you again to the secret Santa user that put me on the list even though I can't send anything. /wip/ is truly the best thread on this or any other board.
Hudson Murphy
the hype is real
Michael Hall
hey /wip/ im converting an sr-20 blackhawk model for my orks, and i wanna turn it into a burna bomba, as of right now the only thing i have to add to it are four missile's from a stompa, what is the best source for orky metal looking bits, and loads of dakka, and flamers.
Landon Campbell
Just got the address to send my stuff to. Thanks, secret santa user.
Julian Brooks
Me too, oh boy, here we goooo!
Carter Rogers
I started sending out matches, but have to leave now and can only continue sunday/monday. So don't worry if you didnt get your match yet, it will come!
Adam Powell
Help me, /wip/. Every time I paint I few models I fall in love with a new colourscheme. How do I stop this insanity?
Samuel Diaz
Same here!
Michael Bailey
Whats the countries that signed in this year?
James Williams
And how many people signed in?
Blake Foster
Not Santa user, but I remember a post mentioning around 150 participants, mainly from North American and Europe. I think there was one SEA user too. WOO EXCITEMENT
Ayden Williams
...
Easton Morris
SEA? Like an user that lives in a boat?
Isaac Young
I kinda want the SEA user because I could 2day delivery my gift to him for like $15 through work...
Zachary Barnes
South East Asia
Lucas Hall
>mfw I got my match >mfw based on the geographical location I may need to change some of the contents of my gift
Jack Morales
Yeah I was gonna send the guy a Christmas ham, but seeing as he's from Germany, odds are I'd get beheaded for it.
Jaxson Butler
Keep /pol/ out of wip 40kg is where you wanna go for that
David Torres
Fudge, what was it?
Thomas Price
South America has at least one user too.
Liam Rivera
Nothing major but it'd be the equivalent of sending an Italian some spaghetti
Josiah Williams
I want to paint my Vostroyans like this. Any suggestions on what colours to use?
I found this pic in the back of White Dwarf 318, it mentions the White Dwarf Online for that month had an article on painting these bad boys up in a bunch of ways (including this one).
I assume this is just one of those hobby articles that's lost to the internet? Anyone know if a White Dwarf Online archive exists or something slimier?
Chase Reyes
>tfw no workstation I've had to move in with my in-laws while we try to buy a house but it had issues so we moved on to another house, now our survey has come back from the second house and it's got issues too. The only time I get to paint is occasionally at my parents' house. It's been over 2 months now and there's no light at the end of the tunnel. At least I have 2 weeks off over Christmas, gonna go help my dad make a bunch of 15mm scenery.
Eli Hernandez
I'm glad I got someone outside of my country, so I can make up for the quantity of minis with all the fucked up poison candy we have.
Levi Ramirez
What country? I wouldnt mind myself, but that is maybe just me!
Jacob Cooper
Are you still adding minis? Are you American?
Julian Taylor
Should i get worried if i don't have a mail from Santa-user yet? Or is everything still in the works?
(to clarify, i got a confirmation that he has my address, but i did not get my match)
Nolan Martin
Its Fine, you should get one till monday. I know, the hype is hard to container.
Henry Ross
Looks like the default scheme with Space Wolves colors instead of red. So in modern terms that would be Russ Grey and Fenrisian Grey I guess.
I know you can find a lot of the old Black Gobbo content, i.e. stuff by the american online team via the wayback machine, but oddly enough I don't remember ever visiting the white dwarf online thing. I'm looking at #318 right now too btw amd I don't think I even heard of it before now
Maybe GW didn't promote that outside of England. Kind of weird.
Joshua James
Where's the mega with the codex pdfs?
Julian White
try the 40k general Looking in the correct thread generally yields better results.
Kayden Wilson
Jesus i'm an idiot
Luis James
I fucked up his face when coloring it
Lucas Nelson
Yeah, i was kind of leaning towards the Space Wolf colours too, but i dunno - the Vostroyan's cloth looks a bit darker? Guess i'll just have to paint a test on and go from there. Cheers dude!
Unfortunately Wayback Machine didn't have any results. Wording's kind of weird, i'm not sure if White Dwarf Online was just a rink-dink newsletter or something more substantial. It's a shame - if it was the former i'd love to have a look over at that stuff.
Anthony Hernandez
where (if anywhere) am i supposed to put the markings on a DW dred?
Aiden Torres
is that deathwatch or deathwing?
Eli Garcia
Deathwatch
Logan Ross
Would anyone recommend the Scalecolor NMM set for painting NMM? What Vallejo/Citadel paints would make good substitution? My LGS carries them so they are easier to get.
Dylan Walker
Forgot pic
Luis Gonzalez
>Deathwatch
Hmmm... are you using the kit that came with Death Masque? That's just the bog-standard Venerable Dreadnought. What's funny is that the photographs of him in the included campaign book (pic related) show Nihilus having Deathwatch markings on his sarcophagus, and you do get the bitz to make this happen (they're on the DW upgrade sprue), but the actual assembly instructions in the box are just the regular Venerable Dreadnought ones - they don't say how the conversion to Nihilus is to be achieved.
Kevin Kelly
kind of a tricky question. Afaik Deathwatch dudesmen are only on temporary assignment generally before they return to their chapter. I found a reference in Rites of Battle from the RPG to them though. Pp110-113 describe them in game and fluff terms. As far as I can tell they don't even mention markings though.
If in doubt you can go either two way imo: do what the other guys in the DW do, i.e. just paint everything but the chapter iconography black and do one are in silver or look through codex ultramarines from 2nd edition or insignium astartes and go with codex markings. I don't think you'll need to add company marking and number necessarily though.
OK, so Nihilus is a Blackshield, which means he's going to stay with the Deathwatch until he dies, and displays neither personal heraldry not home chapter markings. The illustration in shows the chapter markings on the right armour panel, while the rest of the paint job is 100% Deathwatch. Seems like a good guideline. Here're the Codex markings from Second Edition.
William Johnson
Warp spiders from Wargame Exclusive arrived today, this is actually the best resin I've ever seen. It's plastic tier, zero holes, zero warping, zero messed up detail you have to fix with greenstuff, just a little bit of flash and some casting leftovers and that's it.
Fucking incredible, wish Games "spend more time repairing the model than painting it" Workshop would do resin as well as this small independent retailer from the goddamn ukraine.
Bentley Rodriguez
Question,
I want to make a acidy/toxic base, similar to those.
I did it by using PVA glue and dropping super glue into it, then letting it dry.
After that I use washes to paint them, but mine are rather dull. How do i make them more shiny like this, so it actually looks like liquid/slime?
Noah Nguyen
fuark they look mint
Logan Rivera
desu GW's finecast models have been the worst resin models I've ever bought from anyone. Even my limited amount of FW purchases had bubbles in them.
Almost every smaller outfit that I bought from had better quality or quality control.
Grayson Torres
>hasn't gotten a match yet
Fug, was I supposed to roll on that one thread?
Christopher Torres
>How do i make them more shiny like this, so it actually looks like liquid/slime?
Seal them with 'Ardcoat?
Josiah Bell
gloss if you want more shinyness, actual inks or candycoats if you need more saturation
Michael Reyes
Ty for the help user's
Dylan Green
Great sculpts too, way better than the 2nd edition warp spiders GW still sell
Yeah, building this Eldar army has really given me a dislike for GWs resin.
I don't have a workstation per se, I just paint at my desk.
Tyler Bennett
Me personally I like to mix the paint or even just food dye with rubber cement or hot glue (because it's clearish unlike the bright blue PVC glue and takes the colors better) when it dries you can see the waves of color and looks much more organic than just painting the dried glue.
Hunter Williams
It's ok. I read the 40k general for 20 minutes wondering why it was so cancerous, thinking it was /wip/
Liam Cox
They look like complete dog shit. They don't hold a candle to Jes Goodwin's classic sculpts.
Isaiah Bennett
They have Dr. Pepper in Finland?
Caleb Cruz
These dudes looked fucking incredible 20 years ago, but they're just stunted and chunky today, all the 1st and 2nd edition sculpts look really out of place when your army is on the table because they have a completely different style to your other models.
Connor Hall
I dig it. What kind of lamp is that?
Juan Nguyen
Yes? There are multiple bottling plants that bottle Dr. Pepper here. That particular can is imported from the US, though.
Levi Wood
No, Santa-user hasn't finished sending out all matches yet, he had time today, and then Sunday and Monday, so if you haven't received a match yet, you likely will once he gets back home.
Cameron Davis
I've heard good things about painting NMM with Scale75 paints, as they dry a little slow compared to most miniature paint brands, making blending relatively easy to do.
Parker Morales
Just some plain old long lightbulb lamp I found in the closet. Works fine even not being used for 10 years
Adrian Carter
those look really good, have fun painting them user.
Bentley Russell
Not a fan of the titplate and dooku-hat but WGE paintjobs do look awful being shitty shoops and all.
Jack Peterson
Why not ... both! I could totally see this model leading mold old metal Warp Spider squad.
>That particular can is imported from the US, though.
I figured it must be, since it refers to the South East Conference (SEC), and I was excited that you might be here in Texas (we have plenty of Dr. Pepper, including a museum for it down in Waco), but then I tried to decipher the words on the books, and it made my brain hurt.
I spent some time in Jakarta, Indonesia, years ago. It was interesting because all the signs have Bahasa Indonesia written on them with the Roman alphabet. So, the actual *letters* are familiar, but none of the words they make are sensible. I hear that's the case with words in dreams.
Jackson Morris
sure it's not a flourescent?
Juan Cox
Overall the paint scheme is nice, but the 'marble' looks.. I don't know... runny? somehow. I feel that traditional marble is much more spidery.
Nicholas Harris
Secret santa all packed, can't wait till monday to ship it, I just hope the user posts opening photos.
