So Veeky Forums, On monday I'll be sending some Hortons to the printer.
part of the joke is that he doesn't have an EPT, so I need to figure out how to make fun of the fact that it isn't there.
I'm currently using an explosion covering it up in the vein of ATHF, but if someone can make a crude drawing of the EPT medal, I can shop that onto a piece of paper that gets taped where the EPT should go.
Any other ideas for what to do with this card?
Jace Rodriguez
Looks fine as is.
Asher Walker
To be fair if we're talking movies-only 99% of the Imperials we see aren't evil. They're either morally gray, neutral, or good.
Ozzel, Veers, Piett, unnamed TIE pilots, Needa, unnamed Death Star officers, Mofference extras, Sandtroopers, Stormtroopers; they're all guys just doing their jobs. We're supposed to view them as evil by merit of being the plot's antagonists.
John Young
>Stormtroopers; they're all guys just doing their jobs. We're supposed to view them as evil by merit of being the plot's antagonists. Except for the Tatooine Stormtroopers who killed Owen, Beru, and the Jawas.
Brandon Torres
>good Oh come the fuck on, user.
Hunter Clark
I stand corrected. Even if EU material did explain that, it's still unjustified given by what we see onscreen.
I mean, feel free to tell me why I'm wrong.
Ethan Diaz
About 40% of named Imperials aren't evil, but if they were good they wouldn't be fighting under the guy in jet black armour who psychically chokes a large proportion of his own men to death.
Jack Campbell
About 90% of named Imperials hate Vader. Even Palpy wasn't happy with him choking guys and wasting ships on his father-son bonding quest (in EU at least)
Zachary Russell
Feel free to list the "good" Imperials in the OT.
Parker Russell
in b4 hux
Jaxon Campbell
too late user.
John Sanders
Dunno, what's so evil about Piett, Needa, Veers, and Ozzel?
Brandon Russell
Can we stop bitching about the ethics of the Rebellion/Empire and either talk gush over Star Wars militaries, admire Twi'lek traps, or discuss how there's going to be a NEW X-WING WAVE WITH THE GUNBOAT IN IT coming out in four days
Hudson Hill
holy shit I completely forgot the gunboat was coming
Carson Myers
The last X-wing model I bought was the K-wing. I'm probably going to be a gunboat just to have it. fucking love that thing.
Jeremiah Davis
How do I Star Wars an AH-1W Super Cobra?
Carson Diaz
I never liked the gunboat personally. it's an imperial fighter that replaces everything that's characteristically imperial (cheap, no shields, no hyperdrive, no warheads, TIE) and is also the best fighter ever that's faster and stronger than x-wing TIE defender and superman combined
Liam Davis
You're thinking of the Missile Boat. The Gunboat is just a slightly faster, slightly more heavily armed Y-wing sans turret.
Lincoln Thompson
Hm. The closest that I can think of that's a dedicated gunship is the Separatist Droid Gunship (though TCW used it as an analogy to the Mi-24)
Your best bet is either that, the LAAT/i, or the Auzituck (all of which are more similar to the Mi-24D)
Honestly the HWK-290 could be like it sans missiles with its cannon at the bottom of the fuselage
Justin Morgan
Can't say I'm really looking forward to the new wave, maybe I'm just burnt out on x-wing though. I can't foresee any of the new ships filling empty design spaces or solving issues I have with the game in ways that aren't going to be less enjoyable to deal with than what they're fixing.
Nathan Fisher
Those seem to have the wings mounted too far back, and the ones on the far side seem to be at entirely the wrong angles.
Or in the FFG RPG system a Y-Wing that's worse at literally everything. What the FUCK, I know most of the ship rules are shit but that one was especially bad.
Leo Sullivan
There's also the Gunship fighter from Galactic Battlegrounds
If you want to make a new ship, then just add two engines/solar panels sticking out the top of the fuselage (where the rotor system was), replace the engine with an ion engine, make the fuselage more round, and have internal weapons bay. The cannon can stay the same or be "Star Wars-ized" (use any of the external cannons from the franchise as a reference)
Jeremiah Long
What he said. The Gunboat is what happens when a shuttle subcontractor decides to downsize a Lambda-shuttle into a starfighter for long range patrols, anti-piracy operations, and the occasional asymmetrical warfare operations for naval commanders who occasionally think outside the Ton-Falk Carrier.
The Missile Boat is what happens when Thrawn gets the Gunboat design team into a skunkworks lab full of missile launchers and Raith Sienar's private reserve with the stated goal of fucking up TIE Defenders.
Kayden Evans
I will bring glory to the Empire with this list this Regional season- what would I ideally do after the initial engage(ideally at R3)?
1 forward and either R1 primary (R2 HLC if they fucked up) or 3 bank SLAM 3 hard and come back next round with more shooting? That's what I'm currently thinking at least.
Also, what types of lists should I be afraid of? I don't use Vassal- What's the meta there right now?
Darth Vader (Veteran Instincts, Advanced Targeting Computer, Engine Upgrade)-35
Rho Squadron Veteran(Crack Shot, XG-1 Assault Configuration, Heavy Laser Cannon, Linked Batteries, Long Range Scanners)-32
Rho Squadron Veteran(Crack Shot, XG-1 Assault Configuration, Heavy Laser Cannon, Linked Batteries, Long Range Scanners)-32
99/100
Also, Holy shit is the math on the damage output of those Rhos good, and their conditions for setting up shots are amazingly easy compared to munitions. I played one game with these guys (proxied) and they eat stuff alive.
What are you guys flying in wave 12.
Ryder Watson
Alternately, you could take the Orca Gunship from C&C and replace the rotors with repulsorlifts or a "tiltjet" (for lack of a better term) setup.
Jackson Jackson
no, I'm thinking of the Gunboat, for those exact reasons you listed. It's faster than a Y-wing, more maneuverable than an X-wing, stronger shields than both, two lasers, two ions, missiles, hyperdrive... It's the antithesis of everything "Imperial" while also being better than the iconic OT ships in their designated roles.
though for the record I also dislike the Missileboat AND the Defender for the same reasons.
Jeremiah Hernandez
Not sure what the XWA writers were smoking with the stats cited on the Wook. In the original X-wing, it was pretty damn sluggish. You could pretty consistently out-turn them in the T-65 and easily gun them down because of their large in-game model.
Easton Hernandez
>It's faster than a Y-wing, more maneuverable than an X-wing, No, it is MAYBE faster than a Y-Wing, but has no version with even a rudimentary turret, it's definitely not more maneuverable than an X-Wing.
It IS however more requently armed with Concussion missiles instead of Torpedoes so it's got a slight advantage in dogfights, but loadouts can change.
The ammo count is also a little weird because SW usually has one tube shoot more than one missile, but the Gunboat most often is shown as having only one missile per tube in its boxes. (Except for I think the ...Saga Edition? Giving it like ten reloads per tube or something insane like that.)
I don't remember it being able to crack all that much speed or turning in XWA.
More maneuverable than an X-wing, faster than a Y-wing, stronger shields than both.
Daniel Parker
>More maneuverable than an X-wing Whatever the stat block says about the Gunboat on the Wook or in XWA, it doesn't match up with actual maneuverability in X-Wing gameplay, where it's a Y-wing+ at best.
Jaxon Diaz
Yeah, but I'm telling you now, it does NOT fly like that. They may be using SBD differently the games are never clear if shield rating is for double layer green shields or one layer green.
And the Maneuver rating feels like bullshit.
William Turner
The resistance bomber and the TIE silencer are what I’m looking forward to tbqh
Jason Jackson
Discounting SLAM (which is basically "we either can't or don't want to do a Missile Boat as a seperate release") Y-Wing+ describes the StarWing in XWM pretty well. It has more green, less red, and can't K-turn on it's own (which is somewhat alleviated by the SLAM).
Grayson Fisher
Oh, I should say the important bullet point there is that the actual maneuvers are mostly the same.
Aaron Gomez
I'm thinking about running a list with only new wave ships on Thursday; how does this look?
TIE Silencer - Test Pilot Blackout (31) -Trick Shot (0) -Fire Control Systems (2) -Autothrusters (2) -Pattern Analyzer (2)
Alpha-class Star Wing - Lieutenant Karsabi (24) -Adaptability (0) -Advanced SLAM (2) -XG-1 Assault Configuration (1) -Heavy Laser Cannon (7)
Alpha-Class Star Wing - Rho Squadron Veteran -A Score to Settle (0) -Advanced SLAM (2) -OS-1 Arsenal Loadout (2) -Cluster Missiles (4)
Total: 100 pts
It's DEFINITELY a work in progress.
Grayson Hill
So apparently EAfront 2 made the Scout pistol double as a blinding flash pistol instead of the retarded two-hit-kill monstrosity it was in EAfront 1. It's actually a pretty cool dual-function weapon.
Shame the game needs to be boycotted.
Christian King
I also approve of their choice of the S-5 as their heavy pistol (And deeply disapprove of their choice of the SE-44c First Order pistol as the all era final upgrade pistol)
Lincoln Nelson
Jerjerrod seemed like a competent officer, in good graces enough to get a verbal and non-chokey warning from Vader, and stood up for his men, at least as far as saying they were doing what they could.
Jaxson Fisher
>hey you see this? best TIE ever? >i want to destroy it utterly
Justin King
So last thread I asked what the ideal ship for a bounty hunter was, and a wise user replied that it should be some anonymous merchant vessel that's been stealthily refitted To that end, what vessel would be a good starting point for this?
Nicholas Reed
with that criteria you're basically looking for the same things a smuggling vessel would, except perhaps more focus on armament and less on cargo space. Corellian ships are a good place to start. You'll definitely want to add ion cannons and maybe even a tractor beam.
Andrew Hall
...
Michael Perez
YG-4210 works for everything
Isaac Mitchell
Yeah the s-5 as sniper handcannon is nice. That says in pretty sure it fires significantly slower than the one time we saw it on screen, bit oh well
Jaxon Young
I'm gonna try out a SideVynder & TractoRexpert list but i'm struggling to fins a good blocker or ablative shield for these two with my 20 points left. Any ideas?
Major Vynder — Alpha-class Star Wing Saturation Salvo Cluster Missiles Proton Torpedoes Long-Range Scanners Os-1 Arsenal Loadout
Rexler Brath — TIE Defender Expertise Tractor Beam Twin Ion Engine Mk. II TIE/D
Kevin Miller
a Lancer-class might be an option
Caleb Green
Thanks for the thoughts anons After a bit of research I've settled on the YG-4210, it really suits my character and the style I was looking for
Dominic Anderson
When you take a Silencer, use PTL+Sensors almost always- maybe PTL+FCS+Tracker on Kylo.
For gunboats, Os1 is a lot better if you take a missile that doesn't spend the TL- Harpoon is best here.
For XG1, either go for the gimmick with flechette, or don't and go with mangler or HLC.
Remember, they get drastically cheaper at lower PS.
Alexander Bell
Saturation salvo is a horrible trap card. Make it VI, or Expertise if you can afford it. Os1 is action starved, Aslam is almost mabdatory. Replace clusters with Harpoons to keep required action counts down (no TL spending. Protons can be shaved off entirely.
The issue here is your ships are expensive and squishy. You will hit pretty hard if you can tractor someone and then harpoon though.
Parker Rogers
Silencer is so fucking abhorrent of a design. Like all Nu-Disney uninspired designs save for the BASED Corvus.
Lincoln Taylor
reworked the list a bit. SideVynder, TractoRexpert & Autogressor is ready to fuck shit up
Major Vynder — Alpha-class Star Wing Veteran Instincts Harpoon Missiles Cruise Missiles Long-Range Scanners Os-1 Arsenal Loadout
Rexler Brath — TIE Defender Expertise Tractor Beam Twin Ion Engine Mk. II TIE/D
Sienar Specialist — TIE Aggressor Autoblaster Turret Lightweight Frame
Yeah they removed the panels, but they added a shitbunch of thrusters.
Reason that the Raider is cooler than nu-disney stuff is becuase FFG designed it I believe, not Didney.
Jayden Lopez
FFG did it with heavy co-operation and input from ILM
I just like that they made the cockpit something you can actually look outside of in a fight. Seriously the viewports for tie fighters is laughably small
It's now much better of a list- Cruise missiles don't work well on Gunboats, they don't have any non-red 4 speed moves. Rexler can now shoot first, although he seriously should be made into Vessery for the accurate shots and combos.
(Replaced LRS and Cruise with Aslam)
Other than that, it seems workable, but it will be hard to fly.
Below is a similar list with more action economy and better Time on Target.
Wasn't the Raider a replacement/ supplement for the Lancer Cruiser? Something about the Lancer's size prompting the Raider's genesis.
Oliver Ross
FFG wanted to make an Imperial counterpart to the CR-90, and they found the next thing in terns of size that would match to be the Lancer frigate- Which would be just shy of 2 feet long even at the game's epic scale of 1/450 (opposed to 1/270 that everything else is)
So they reached out to Lucas to create a new ship that would act as an anti-fighter corvette that was the size of a CR-90.
Jace Bennett
Well that and I assume that to do the Lancer accurately would make it completely and absolutely broken for X-Wing since its specifically designed to fuck starfighters raw.
James Long
so It's got 20 Quad Laser cannons- One hardpoint slot in XWM is 2 of a weapon, (eg, raider has 3 hardpoint slots but has 6 guns and the primary weapon)
So it would end up having 10 hardpoint slots, all of which are Quad laser canons-
With the ability to spam that many shots, it would absolutely fuck small-base ships, but due to the range of Quad lasers, it would be weak to other epic ships with Turbolasers.
So it could work in epic, although it would be very goofy to play with/against.
James Bennett
Imperials with Bombers and a Lancer vs Rebels with a missile and turbolaser CR90 and X-Wings
Id play it. It'd be a nightmare, but itd be fun.
Daniel Price
...
Charles Johnson
>not changing Front View and Side View to quadlaser as well >not changing Lancer Frigate to quadlancer
9/10 still good.
Jeremiah Hughes
*blocks your mc80* *drops its sheilds*
These supplemented by NC whatevers (predecessor to the y-wing) Acclamators, Dreadnuaghts and strike cruisers make an excellent defensive screen
And judging by posting in this thread it seems to annally annihilate incom pilots too
Oliver Johnson
Just played Pic related for the first time (as the rebels) and it was pretty damn fun, for anyone else out there who's played, does it get old after you've played it a few times or would you say it holds up beyond those initial playthroughs?
Elijah Ortiz
Really, epic in general is pretty fun, as long as there are less fucking bombs everywhere.
If only people played epic more- I never get to use my Raider.
Jacob Rodriguez
What's with the price on Armada's stuff? 100 bucks for the core set and 20-40 for expansions? What the fuck is that about?
Robert Gomez
I wish they'd start doing epic tournaments now that scum finally has one
Michael Morris
EotE question: if an ISB agent and a Hutt collide, just how badly are things gonna get? The players' local little star system so far had the local Hutt paying off the meager Imperial administration and everyone living happily ever after, but now the players just shat in that cereal with false-flag attack (AKA blasting a rando Officer across a room and disappearing from the scene while dressed in a third party's uniform) that'll make the Imperials think "Rebels!", and it happened on the Hutt's turf.
Jordan Green
I kinda agree. My girlfriend has a Raider, and I've got a CR90 and a GR75 - we hardly ever get to use any of them, which is a shame. Shit's neat.
Michael Phillips
Is Lothal supposed to be an analogue for Vietnam
Asher Hall
I'd love to play epic since I feel like with all the extra points floating around you can afford to not stick to the same super efficient top tier stuff and do more wacky or fluffy stuff but everyone in my area hates it.
Tyler Price
One could make the argument that their fully painted and since the ships are bigger they need more plastic to cast the models but I honestly think it comes down to FFG knowing people will pay just about anything because "Star Wars!" and because of X-Wings success.
Jordan Davis
Well, they can't do tournaments without significantly re-tooling the rules to make alpha strikes less of a problem.
Shit like this would be super-cancerous to go against.
You either need a gentleman's agreement akin to 40k to have it be fun, or you need FFG to say "No" to more stuff- As an example, in the last draft from 2015, they said that epic ships ignore biggs and can't be protected by biggs, and can't take navigator (so no corrective ram-ships).
That or make a "You must be this fluffy to proceed" line to try to stop the cheese.
Maybe try to make some sort of narrative campaign?
Brandon Cruz
Well, you could chew into some of that if you made it a rule you had to include at least on Epic point worth of ships - which I think would be fair for an Epic tournament.
B/SF-17s shelling corvettes with Proton Bombs is likely to be a more relevant problem.
Andrew Gray
How big are we talking in terms of model size? I've never seen a frame of reference.
Jaxson Williams
Smaller ships are kind of a ripoff, since they're about the same size as small X-wing ships but they're all 20 bucks minimum, large ships are actually pretty big, I'd say about the size of the X-wing VCX.
Daniel Ortiz
I can see some parallels, especially since the OT in general has some undertones of Vietnam.
>Located in a distant, strategically unimportant area (Outer Rim/Southeast Asia) >Mostly agrarian, with a few large cities and industrial zones >Said cities and industrial zones are mainly under the control of a larger foreign power (Empire/USA) >Small, disorganized insurgent forces (rebel cells/Viet Cong) reviving military and technical assistance from enemies of the big power (Rebel Alliance/USSR & China) >Insurgents blend in with the local population, especially in rural areas >Incompetent local government (Pryce/South Vietnam) that is out of touch with the people in the countryside and needs help from the foreign power to put down rebels >One of said government's leaders is secretly killed by the foreign power to keep them from interfering with its plans (Tua/Diem) >Foreign power has more troops and better equipment, but cannot pin down insurgents >Gradual expansion of the conflict into other regions (Garel & Attollon/Laos & Cambodia) and escalation of foreign power's forces
The only big difference is that Lothal has tangible resources the Empire was fighting to control (doonium reserves, Sienar factories, whatever secret thing Tua was talking about), whereas US involvement in Vietnam was a geopolitical gambit meant to curb the spread of Communism as part of the Cold War policy of containment.
Brody Taylor
Here's a slightly better comparison picture, small ships are a tiny bit larger than small x-wing ships and mediums are around the same size as x-wing larges.
Julian Reed
Not to get all lore lawyer on you or whatever but on page 402 of the EoTE's core book in the description for imperial agents it says:
“Although their mandates and methodologies vary from agent to agent, the essential truth of the matter is that an intelligence agent will do absolutely anything to ensure that whatever problem he or she has been dispatched to deal with is, in fact, dealt with permanently. If an agent determines that an individual may pose a threat to the stability of the Empire, either in the present or in the future, he may well forsake traditional measures and take it up”
So from my interpretation it seems like so long as the Hutt doesn't interfere with the ISB agent's mission, (presumably investigating a possible rebel assassination of an officer) there would be no conflict. But if for some reason the Hutt did get in his way, it seems like a safe bet that the ISB agent will do *whatever* he can to accomplish his mission, and because the Hutt could sorta-kinda-maybe be a "threat to the stability of the Empire" He might take it upon himself to deal with that as just because.
Matthew Gutierrez
Should we (Veeky Forums) make our own epic tournament rules?
We would need to put
- Spam limits - various anti-cheese. - a minimum level of fluffiness to be enforced.
Stopping stuff like massive alphas and the like.
What do you think Veeky Forums?
Jordan Ramirez
>Please, hotshot, blaster cannon? Bet it's a hold out pistol.
Daniel Young
Said Hutt would probably just retreat behind the walls of his 'estate' and let the Empire ravage every one of his business rivals while throwing a few "I'm a legitimate businessman" lines the ISB agent's way
Trouble is, the shooting happened on a casino station owned by him, which he uses to >launder money >pay off Imperial personnel as "winnings" >store some of his wealth in its vault >hide a pirate ship and its crew disguised as "cash-in-transit" personnel and the players implicated the pirates in the shooting
Now, assuming that my players get off the station alive, the ISB agent is probably tearing the place to bits, and I'm not sure just how protective the Hutt should be of his little den of crime, or how willing to just declare it a loss (and put a bounty on the head of everyone involved)
Levi Baker
Isn't the Empire fighting a bunch of simultaneous Vietnams anyway?
Andrew Campbell
first off, I've got to commend you because that's some pretty intricate world building you've done there. Secondly to answer your questions I imagine that the answer to how willing the Hutt would be to count the casino as a loss depends largely on what other avenues of revenue he has and what portion of his overall operation are at stake by losing it. Also there is the reputation angle to consider where if the Hutt appears weak in the eyes of competitors, that may be even worse to his operation if he has any rivals of similar strength that might take his weakness as a sign that it's time to make moves. But of course another thing to consider is being in open war with the Star Wars equivalent of the feds for any length of time can't be good for anyone, including the Hutt's competitors. But regardless of what your games situation is like I think the Hutt will most definitely put out a bounty on those involved, again so as to preserve his reputation and not let people think they can do that kind of thing to his operation and get away with it.
Nathan Turner
When do you think we’ll get this as a Rebel epic with the cards for reb/imp Iden and Corvus imp cards?
James Butler
Morally grey campaigns. I am giving my rebels a dilemma. Recently a powerful man has lost his family and planet when the Imperials bombarded it. Offering his assets as a magnate to the rebellion. He is proven quickly to be a scumbag when he plants false bombardment beacons on imperial loyal worlds to incite rebellion
So the rebels are in a rock and hard place. Allow him to continue the atrocities or turn their back on him with the chance of reprisal
Juan Bell
Well they threw Saw Gerrera right the fuck out so
Jonathan Cox
As a player my first plan would be to try and subvert the plans, put them where people will not be harmed. and make this man reassess his plans.
Levi Turner
Two separate Star Wars campaigns at the moment. Black Sun: A group of high profile pirates is contracted by the Black Sun to wrestle control of the spice trade out of the Kessel Sector out of Imperial control. Gathering funds, allies, bribery, extortion and sabotage are the most common activities but also lots of pirate shenanigans. Most recently, the players managed to come into a fairly large amount of money, but in turn they made enemies with not one but two angry Hutts and their pet bounty hunter...
Rebels: A small rebel cell is operating in a rich mid rim sector. This campaign focuses on the power plays between local governments and bolstering the rebel ranks so far. Some strides have been made, but it'll take some time until the fight can be taken to the Empire. In the near future the rebels might find out that the "deactivated" Imperial probe droid they salvaged might not have been such a lucky find after all...
Ian Hughes
The morally upright choice is to break away from the scumbag, to hell with the consequences. In somewhat more morally gray terms, even the mere suspicion that the Rebel Alliance took action that resulted in the bombardment of civilians is a serious threat to the Rebel Alliance.
Cooper Ortiz
That said there are things that makes it risky.
The first problem is he is an extremely wealthy backer. He help finance most pf the activity the campaign is taking place in so double crossing him means all he has to do is get a new face and work on his targetting both the empire and the rebels who double crossed him while waiting for a better deal
And unlike Saw, he is much more well to do and cultured. Drawing him away from the dirty rebel look. He doesnt hesistate to hire cutthroats or use brainwashed soldiers to support the cause. There are moderates in his group but they got a stake as well im this conflict and backstabbing him means they are first on his list when the empire falls
And third is the plan works. Imperial officers who misuses resources are replaced. Imperial worlds take severe damage and sympathy goes up for the rebels
Landon Bennett
Take his money and shoot him in the head, done
Jaxson Rodriguez
So what card game are we playing?
There are several.
Star Wars The Card Game by FFG is great but never quite broke into the mainstream and the deckbuilding is different. It's actually still going but I haven't seen content for it in a few years. Where do people play this?
Many old games of which Decipher's CCG is the best. Far too niche for any of us.
There is Star Wars Destiny which let's be honest ain't sticking around judging by how FFG treats their other titles. It's cool and all but I don't really think the small packs and dice is a great selling point.
Empire vs. Rebellion? That's like not even on the radar.
I have some Armada stuff and it just requires such a large play area. Also, it's not a casual ga me so finding opponents had been impossible.
Are we being herded into the cash cow pen for Legion?
I like cards and this theme. What do I do?
I'm leaning toward getting back into the LCG because I like it and had played it since launch, but FFG just let's these things fade away idk what's going on.
Joseph King
The most logical thing for the rebs to so here from every perspective would actually be to flat out kill the guy
Nolan Ross
I play Destiny. There's a lot of support for it and it's selling pretty well as far as I can tell
Jordan Anderson
If you're not playing newcanon though...
They ARE a rebellion. They're not fighting for some kind of altruism or nobility, they're fighting to instate a government they believe to be best. If they could get away with it something that could greatly further their cause, IE bring an entire planet into their ranks while also slandering their enemy, they'd probably do it so long as it could be hidden.
David Stewart
The mainstream Rebel Alliance does operate by strict rules of engagement even in Legends, however. Guerrilla warfare is well and good but Mon Mothma generally avoids allowing Rebel assets to deliberately endanger civilians.
Bentley Baker
The alliance was pretty desperate at all times to keep up the good public image so they could claim the moral highground over the empire.
