In the Mormon religion, Satan and Jesus pitched competing proposals to God for the design of humanity. Mormon Satan's proposal was that humans would be supernaturally compelled to make correct decisions and all of them would be welcomed into paradise; Mormon Jesus proposed humans would have free will, so some humans would end up in heaven and others would not. Why would anyone have opposed Mormon Satan's proposal?
In the Mormon religion, Satan and Jesus pitched competing proposals to God for the design of humanity...
Humanity is free will. Without free will you don't have humanity. Meaning Satan's argument is pointless. He just wants sheep to roam and die. While Jesus wants us to be sentient individual people.
We can't even tell for sure if we have free will or not: people argue whether it even exists! Doesn't seem like we'd miss it if it was gone.
Did someone say Mormon Jesus?

That's not really within the logic of the argument. This is Jesus and Satan here, they have fiat: if they say free will is a thing and they're arguing about it, then it definitely exists.
IRL, you can have that argument, but in the framework of this myth, free will is a divine construct.
It's the answer to "If god is good, why would he allow humans to do evil?"
Christianities reasoning is that for good to exist, there should be the possibility for evil. That's why humans need the freedom of choice, if they can only choose to do good, then there is no such thing as good. The evil choice is in function of the good.
It's dumb, I know, but that's the official answer.
Another, more fun way to look at it is supposing God is evil. If god is evil, why would he allow good in the world? So that there is good that he can painfully strip away. Oglaf does this really well.
I mean, strictly speaking, Biblical God IS evil.
He committed genocide, a categorically evil act. From a DnD alignment perspective, anyway. And this topic is...theoretically Veeky Forums related.
>God is evil because DnD Allingment system.
Yeah that's fair, but not from the biblical standpoint. In order to have this discussion on their terms, you have to accept god as all-good and all-knowing. It's some academic philosophy, son.
On the other hand, it's fairly easy to see that the christian idea of god is a bundled mess of different human interpretations and you can quickly poke some holes in it. So if you feel like buying a fedora, now is your chance.
>God is evil because DnD Allingment system.
Actually friend what I said was that God is evil IN DnD Alignment Systems. Not that this makes God evil.
I approve the proposal of the Mormon Jesus
>Why would anyone have opposed Mormon Satan's proposal?
Someone that doesn't want to be a braindead slave?
>Doesn't seem like we'd miss it if it was gone.
Duh, just like you wouldn't feel it if you disappeared entirely, soul and whatever else. Because there wouldn't be anything left to feel, and in your argument, you wouldn't have an option to miss it unless told to do so.
Free will doesn't exist, bro, it's a deterministic universe.
Sithrak is pretty chill tho.
Imagine a strategy game where you allways win. No fun to play that.
Oh yes. Sithrak solves almost all ethical dilema's that Christianity is faced with.
Hey, sithrak himself admitted that he wrote his teachings during his edgy teenage phase, there's no need to embarrass him by bringing it up.
>Jesus's proposal wins without a second thought
Nepotism strikes again!
A big part of philosophy is learning to understand people's arguments and questions, and replying with relevant responses.
Rephrasing this question, but keeping the meaning of it:
Assuming we have a choice between having free will and being capable of evil, or not having free will and being incapable of evil, which is superior?
Replying: "we don't have free will now" is irrelevant to the question.
Keep taking those philosophy courses though, by the time you take logic you'll probably get it!
Cleanses the world of those that use the free will for anything besides wearing magic underwear and worshipping God.
bruh do you not know about the Mormons?
everyone is the son of God
PF (ugh) has roughly the same premise. Asmodeus (LE) didn't want free will, while Ihys (CG) did. Ihys won in the free will department, but Asmodeus killed Ihys in response.
That's what Asmodeus says anyway, he very well could be lying. Why? Who the fuck knows, PF is garbage.
what the fuck does this have to do with "traditional games"
Arguably true. OT god is LE, NT god is LN, Jesus was NG
Silly user, this is Veeky Forums - threads general
>Thinking that wasn't a lie told by Sithrak to make us suffer even more in this and the afterlife
Our lord truly hates us in mysterious ways.
Was it before or after he was thrown down from heaven by a Chinese Emperor and his terracotta army?
That's god.
>applying Veeky Forums concepts in a thread on Veeky Forums
What an asshole, amirite?
Being supernaturally compelled to make the correct decisions is not actually making any decisions at all. The only way to make a right choice is to have the possibility of making a wrong choice. Satan's plan was to render humanity as less than they already were, reversing any progress before they could have it.
>We can't even tell for sure if we have free will or not
Cogito Ergo Sum
>We can't even tell for sure if we have free will or not
This wasn't a commonly understood scientific issue at the time. Remember, they still thought that God was real.
>some humans would end up in heaven and others would not.
Not entirely accurate. Remember, Mormons don't believe is the Heaven/Hell Dichotomy. Instead they have "degrees of glory", where you can get into one of 3 immortal realities based on how good you were, and how loyal you are to God. Plus, you can improve your standing before the Second Coming of Christ by having living people perform rites for you in your stead.
The only "hell" analogue is some Gold Experience Requiem shit that's reserved exclusively for Satan, his flunkies, and people like Cain who denied God directly to his face
Mormons have a weird Planescape cosmology, it's less binary than traditional Christianity. Mormons go to best heaven, good non-Mormons go to regular heaven, bad non-Mormons go to shitty heaven. But even shitty heaven is supposed to be much better than life on Earth. There is also some kind of hell but only apostates and demons go there.
There are more layers than that.
First is a type of purgatory that everyone goes to while waiting for the second coming. A lot of descriptions of hell actually mean that, with the fire and brimstone being symbolic, but temporary. Then after judgement, you get the degrees of glory, or if you're someone like Judas you get actual Hell, the domain of Satan.
Oh, well, if Satan said it, it must be true.
kek. you're right. this would be better on Veeky Forums or Veeky Forums
image = well chosen, saved
Veeky Forums is Ayn Rand central and Veeky Forums is in a permanent state of "guis wad if hidler wun????" attempted /pol/ takeover. I'd take it to /christian/ in that other site as it's one of the few sub-communities that resisted the neonazi zeitgeist, but I don't know how they take to Mormonism's peculiarities compared to strictly Abrahamic dogma.
I think he was just implying that the system of objective morality prevalent in DnD is shit.
>the domain of Satan
Except it's his domain, it's his prison. Satan in Mormonism is neither a ruler nor powerful, he's a bitchy ghost who just wants people to be as miserable as him
That's just being pedantic. Domain means more than just implying rule. Satan does have plenty of power. Not anything compared to God, but plenty enough to influence.
