ITT: we talk about a wargame that doesn't exist

So lads, 4th Edition was released two days ago, what do you think so far? How (un-)lucky has your army been?

I've been playing a Shining Cities of Merkadith army for quite a while now, focusing on Golem Bruisers equipped to Screen for my Arcanist Circles and meme my opponents away with Summons and the occasional School of Lighting incantation. Good old Qaz-Mahar of the Gleaming Sands has become my favourite Summon with this edition, he went from basically useless to being a massive asshole able to grind almost everything to dust on his Charge when using his new once-per-game Whirlwind of the Desert ability. Is there actually a unit with higher Melee Prowess in the game right now?
My FLGS' WAACfag has been visibly shaking when I obliterated his fucking minmaxed Shield-Praetorian in a single turn, first time his Seraphine Expatriates army lost in a month or so. I wonder when these filthy niggers at BBG will finally nerf this dumb Mary Sue faction, they've been fucking nuts since the first FAQ of Third Edition, they don't even have cute waifus.

>4th edition
>playing anything but unmixed mercenaries
Enjoy losing anywhere higher than regional tournament level. Being able to cherrypick most of the OP units beats your meager synergies.

Failing Morale and Willpower rolls because of Goods over Grit has been fucking them over for a long time imho, sure it's fun and kinda retarded when it works, but the downsides are crazy and even more pronounced than in Third Edition, on top of that, you lack so many crucial Wargear options (just think of Blessed Standards for Golden Hoplites) and barely have any good Leadership apart from Armsmasters of Ur-Marish.

Everyone knows the best army is a mixture of a core force of Golden Hoplites with mercenary auxiliaries is god tier.

Don't forget to equip your archer units with Sunbows to destroy enemy heavy infantry before they can even get close to your center line.

4th ed. is shit on so many levels. I still can't believe they had the balls to remover Natural leaders and demote everyone to single-staff command except the bullshit Hero Riders.
Given the piss-poor Last Stand score for most infantry-based armies, there's basically no point playing anything but the Raid convoy for every faction, so yeah, the nice, shiny, brand-new fuckers get all the wins. My store had at most 3 or 4 victories for Orderly Battalions, two of which were won by Ascenders.

>unmixed mercs
Enjoy playing with 50% of you adversary's points because you got Copper Pay at first roll.

I played Sunbows twice so far, never had much chance with them. I prefer Iron Choir, the special rules fit the Declined empire just right. Also you get +2 to Blur when Sunbows are only +1.

>Wanting to use Blur
>With Golden Hoplites army

It's like you don't want to reclaim the Imperial borders and reverse the decline

Urgh. I was thinking I'd finally get my deathnauts out of storage after the clusternerfing they took in 3rd, but 4th is even worse than them.

Not only do they lose their Summoning glyph (making them the only Archon side to not have a unique glyph), they've also taken a hit on their recruitment speed.

Should I give up and just go for Eldritch Warscythes? I've got a box of them just waiting to be painted.

>Morale
Why the fuck did 4th ed keep this rule. Morale is so 1990's.
Next you'll be telling me they don't allow pre-measuring either.

w-what game is this

Armies of the Ruined Earth of course

What colour scheme should I go for for my Seraphine Expatriates? I like the standard blue and silver or maybe purple and silver, but I'm considering throwing in some gold or black and fluffing them as Fifth Choir or Grand Praetorians.

Blur is actually pretty awesome if you know how to use it, but most people don't. GH have it tougher than most in phase 1 and 2, but they get more on less on the same level as Racks afterwards. If you can draw two tokens out of the first movement, you can get Immune and then Blur makes your pretty much invulnerable against all but Dusky cavs.

>unmixed mercenaries
>being this new

Anyway I can't believe the nerf that got handed out to Grayskin Palanquinriders
Why bother releasing a faction and then give them the Thringle treatment, only alienating the players who invested in them
Bet we won't even see them in the 4.5 reissues

I'm more impressed by the spin on morale they did this time, really outdid themselves. Rallying enemy troops for your side is kinda hilarious, even if it's hilariously broken right now. Lanceshot units inflicting copious morale breaks is pretty powerful by itself, the fact that you can get Regenerator Clerics as part of the whole thing just makes them broken, turning entire armies onto themselves.

>tfw your Undersea Expeditionaries haven't seen an update since 2ed

3 games in and already I am sick and tired of javelin spam.

I can understand you're pissed, but I actually like these changes. Reducing Last Stand score to make units Break earlier stops the melee slugfests that were going on for almost entire games and make the game far more fluid overall. Nerfing of the Shield Wall rule is another hint for this.
Raid is definitely too strong right now, I'm playing Specialist Battleline for my Merkadith army and it's been fine so far, I'll give it some more time.
Nerfing of Command Squads is a mixed bag for me, I guess you play Orderly Batallions too? A fucking shame they're treating the OG army like shit, most OB players are total bros who want to work for their wins without WAAC faggotry.
Armies of the Ruined Earth
Quick lore essentially is
>Some Elder God-ish creature is being sealed away in a lifeless rock
>He goes nuts, rampages and terraforms the rock into a planet
>Life develops, he calms his shit and now watches what happens, some stories from the days of yore say he occasionally manifests an Avatar to life among "his" people
>The God's force used in creating "our" world now known is "Mahandar" are essentially responsible for magic existing, mages basically use a tiny bit of a literal God's power to cast spells
>There are stories from the days of yore that this God, called Arvatas the Thousand-Named, has managed to manifest an Avatar on Mahandar to interact with his creation and there have been rumours that he will get a miniature. I can only guess how broken this will be.

Use Lanceshot-type units. They outrange javelins quite heavily and since javelin spam relies on the Mounted Fieldweavers you force them to approach, and Lanceshot units counter Mounted Fieldweavers directly. The Azure Shields have probably the best Lanceshot units for countering javelin spam.

Get yourself some Deathstorm debuffs and load up on mercenary Hunthunds with a Paolian Exacting War Cleric to give you the necessary rerolls in the third phase of combat

It's the new meta

The rumours I heard is that every faction will get their own avatar, one of the thousand names.

Anno domini 2017
>Still no release of plastic Karadonians knights
>Atrifex is still shit
>Cavalry nerf
>Mercenaryfags still running amok everywhere

Yeah, Blue/Silver is the classic OG scheme and honestly looks the best too. Red accents on the armours and blood sprinkles on the wings can look pretty cool if you do them well.

>shameless money grab

And yet Merkadith and Krapadonians are still half lead

Paolian Exacting War Cleric? Surprising, I'd have gone with Mythrian War Clerics. Kinda broken that Clerics and Lanceshots are now allowed to be on the same armies, there was a pretty big conflict between those two types before, what with the distinction of flintlock versus divine magic, except for the Hannars, but those didn't get good Clerics or Lanceshots.

Lanceshots are Hurried-Recruitment. You'll be outnumbered 100% of the time and javelin can crush you by just throwing bodies at you.

Alright, I'll probably stick with blue/silver for most of them then and maybe through in a few with other colours as allies or something.

Do people like painting mercenary units to be the same colour as the rest of their army to shwo their allegiance, or just have them in their company colours?

Mercenaries are cool when colours vary wildly from the main scheme. Just make sure the troop standard has something to remind you who they're fighting for.

Mythrians do worse off on average for their cost, typical poor gamedesign with the highest outcome expected rather than the most common

Pair up your Hunthunds with the Yaeger Huntsmeister and you've Lanceshots for half the cost with buffs and rerolls

Does mean you've to put up with shitty aesthetics tho

You don't use only Lanceshots, though. The main purpose of them is inflicting high morale damage, but they don't do anything with it - you need somone to punish that. Generally people go with Clerics, but I've been looking towards using some of the Weaver-class units.

Ah man, I hope you're right. Sure it's high-level jewery, but it's far better than literally sending Arvatas himself on the map.
I hope they don't fuck it up, these Avatars of the Thousand Names could be fucking awesome, with Arvatas having a connection to each of Mahandar's factions and each getting their own Aspect(s).

Anyway, I thought about picking up an army next to my Merkadith, what would you guys take?
Kinda considering Reach of Narkas, I want to try a cavalry-heavy army with the /your dudes/ factor.

The one issue I have with the Yaeger Huntsmeister is that if you pair him up with enough Hunthunds for him to really shine you don't have any other way to punish the many morale checks these guys can force.

Morale damage doesn't mean shit when you're fighting against Retinue lines, which is 80% of the meta right now.

Armies mentioned so far:
>Shining Cities of Merkadith
>Seraphine Expatriates
>Golden Hoplites/Declined Empire
>Deathnauts
>Undersea Expeditionaries (two editions out of date)
>Karadonian Knights
>Atrifex
>Assorted merc factions and units

>but it's far better than literally sending Arvatas himself on the map
Boy you don't want to look at the /aore/ rumours threads then

With the cost savings tho you can spam mercs to deny the other guy's dudes field position and win you XL points for the post game save deducations

Weren't they nerfed? And the Azure Shields are still viable, especially after the bonus every Rialvon unit got. Kinda odd that after the fall of Rialvon every unit fighting for that Tower-state got a bonus.

Gotta give people a reason to play them

>Field a core of Grayskins
>Combine with a bulk of Hunthund and one or two Free Church mercs for healing
>Palanquinrider nerfs literally no longer matter
>Shit on the entire field
Name ONE (1) better strategy

That's a fair point. Wasn't there a rumour of a Cannoneer that could be used as a merc coming out? If it does, an army of Hunthunds could be broken, the tricky part of Huntsmeister-based armies was balancing the number of Hunthunds and Cannoneers.
Fair point, the Tower-States don't get much play but they're my favorite ones, their battlefields always end up very interesting.

I am already wasting enough of my time discussing with autists about a game that exists. I wont spend time to discuss something that does not even exist.
That is too much autism for me.

Yeah, they have low shock power now but most people stick rider heroes in the middle of the retinue anyway so it doesn't mean much, and retinue still allows guards to form a circle, so the problem remains.

Azure Shields are nice but the lore is still disappointing. I really wish they'd flesh out the banners, it just reads like a less interesting version of the Declined.

>Play Merchant Princes
>Grand Burgher (with extra cheese) equipped with Finecast Pistols and Engineer Retinue as HQ
>Include 2 Landcogs equipped with 5 Grand Cannons each
>Fill said Landcogs with Doppelsöldner Landschneckts all equiped with Zweihänders and 2 Company Banner of the Free Regiments
>Include 1 Antipope (it's worth the extra cost, I promise) for 5 sweet Dour Guardians of the Rock
>Fill rest of the army with Guild Militia and Council Nobles
>Win (almost) every game while still giving your opponent the illusion of having fun

I'm a fucking genius

>/aore/ rumour threads
I thought the general thread was below average, but then I saw these rumour threads before the release of 4th edition. I wouldn't trust these "people" when they told me they actually play this game. I still want to fucking die from all the faggotry in that thread. The tripfagging drawfag with his shitty ships was the absolute worst humanity has to offer.

>Cannoneers
You've given me an idea for a kitbashed warhound-mounted cannoneer

Giant Warhounds being literally the only reason anyone played Hunthunds before 4ed

shit boi

Can Free Church mercs be taken in a Grayskin list? The core rules are unclear on that, bit of an oversight

>not mocking the autism of most generals
Why do you hate fun?

That's true for pretty much every single Tower-state unit. Kind of a shit thing they were so bad on 1e in both numbers and fluff that no one cared for them, so now they're just there. Though they're expanding on it and it's going great, the Rialvon - Hukeion war very interesting.

is there a website for this game? google has gotten me no where.

oh im just fucking retarded

Why antipope tho ? Your army isnt good at doing moral damage ...

>kitbashed warhound-mounted cannoneer
Goodness gracious, that is going to be quite nasty.
Wouldn't this be too vulnerable to Raid attacks from Fieldweavers? Unless you have a way to delay their first action, then they're screwed.

>I literally don't know how to read
Multi-species armies are no longer allowed unless you're playing Assembled with mercs.

For some reason, BBG decided to offer the game on their website instead of bothering with an AORE website, it's fucking retarded, I know.

For the Dour Guardians of course. The only way having access to them as a Merchant Prince is to include an Antipope. He's practically worthless but those guys support the rest of the list really well.

>Fill said Landcogs with Doppelsöldner Landschneckts all equiped with Zweihänders and 2 Company Banner of the Free Regiments
>Include 1 Antipope

Can you fucking read retard?

Any Huntsmeister with a finecast manuballista would fuck up that Antipope

Or any Seraphines whose faith points would wreck your morale

P. 147
>Free Regiments are Unowned
Antipopes only work with Oaths.

Hukeion and their contrast to Rialvon Tower State with the intrigues, brooding hostilities and subsequent war was a neat piece of fluff. I wonder where they'll go with it, I'm personally biased towards Rialvon, Hukeion Landreavers were far too fucking good back then and I still have PTSD from the stunts they could pull off with their poorly written rules.

The antipope is just the cost you have pay for your Dour Guardians.

>Free Regiments are Unowned
Dude, I play Merchant Princes. Just bring the Banners from the Armory. I can play with Oaths if I include Ancient Linage as my Grand Burghers main trait. As I said, I'm a fucking genius.

Yeah great job, you got Oaths, it only means you can't have Retinue which was the first line of your strategy. Congratulation Subotai.

>Opponent setting up his army
>Puts an Atrifex Supreme Cannibal Master on the field

>fag fields his merceary spam as always
>mfw my Thengrin Marauders wipe his whole army almost single handedly
Thengrin Union is so OP i almost feel bad

Actually, the way it's worded you don't really choose Oath for your Burgher, you choose Grand Linage (which later results in Oath, but you don't pick Oath technically). That way you can still pick Retinue. Only Retinue and Oath are incompatible. It will probably be fixed sooner or later, but you can't blame me for playing the game as it's written man.

Is it true they destroyed the molds for that miniature?

Thengrin Union loses to Rialvon Tower State too often, picking Rialvon Tower State puts a river on the map of the fighting location automatically and Thengrin trying to maneuver around rivers are pathetic.

4e is a gods-send. Finally, FUCKING FINALLY BBG gave me leadership rules for Coalition of Monstergirls. Serina Snappinch has been begging for an honour guard retinue of Man-o-taurs since Strom the Blue Gate was published. Plus I can now legally ally Man-o-taurs with shy scorpion girls to hold hands with and empower their Dust Storm casting. Plus the new line of CuteBlush© paints really help me with shading their faces properly

>CoM
>He actually plays the fapbait meme army
>laughing_hoplites.jpg

DEATHNAUTS OP PLS NERF

>someone that actually plays CoM
Wasn't that the one that was banned for being both incredibly lewd and incredibly broken, and they only had access to like one quarter of the total units you could field?

I still couldn't find it.

>Playing CoM
i didn't think anyone could fell for the meme bait army

It was banned for the first half of second, it got nerfed HARD a few months in, and it's been a joke ever since, the only reason to use it is for magical realm material.

>Coalition of Monstergirls
>shy scorpion girls

One guy at our store literally bought some the old models on Ebay, melted them halfway through and used them as base for his Deathnaut Artificer Lord's throne. Pretty epic/legendary if you ask me.

Just bring some Dreadbolt Artillery. You don't need to cross the river if there's nothing on the other side and Rialvon unit's armor is wet paper

Yeah, good luck getting those though. Since they discontinued the models, they're $50 each on eBay... I'm expecting the price to go up even further with the buffs they got in 4E.

>Do a shooting match with RTS
>win
Pick one

I just proxy toilet rolls for mine.

So what crossover faction do you think their going to add next, I heard the sales of the forces of Aku starter set were sub-par so I think we can rule out another Adult Swim crossover.
It's a real shame because I wanted a Guild of Calamitous Intent army.

Why is this thread made so often?

It's fun?

So what do you guys think of the setting's advancement in the new edition?

I'm thinking that the new conflicts between the Golden Hoplites and Karadonian Knights are gonna end in the GH's favor, because of the "Imperial Reconquest" rule

Well since the 4th ed, most knights feel useless without Blessing of Meralith. They now get squashed hard by anything with a spear. I don't know how to field them anymore. pls someone help

>A wargame that does not exist
>Warhammer fantasy
*sniff*

You just need to [s]renounce your heathen ways and submit to the rule of the Solar Throne, and play Golden Hoplites[/s]

WHEN THE FUCK ARE THEY NERFING SCREAM WIZARDS
I'M SICK OF THIS BULLSHIT

>Fags arguing about Seraphine Expatriates, Merkadith, Golden Hoplites, etc.
>mfw I'm over here with my undefeated Gerifalin Second Sons

Stay salty, losers!

It's because some people exploit garbage ass combos, so the makers keep trying to balance around those.
>Malakath casting pain reflection/water orb on your three of your own guys RAW does enough damage to 1shot half the enemy army.
>Better nerf HP values into the ground so they can't reflect as much damage
>Not just fucking making pain reflection only work for enemy damage
>Or taking away water orb
Fuck I'm so mad.

>1st tourney of 4e a week away
>online store fucks up my order
>Army comes as 15 box of Etheral Stalkers
>Oh_shit_Autarch.png
>Fuck it I will never get a second order in time I'll just use them all

I am running a 100% incorporial army boys wish me luck! For the council!

No one likes the Golden Throne they ban everything fun.

You can't even have ghost friends.

so is the plot gonna go anywhere anytime soon?

shit

Looks like the plot is going to move towards the lesser nations like the Merchant Princes and remains of the Rialvon Tower State are being forced to work together to hold back the Deathnaut offensive and the Seraphine Expatriate raiding forces hitting trade isn't helping them.

Golden Hoplites are attempting to reconquer Karadonian Knight territory, and if they do we might see GH getting KK auxiliary units.

The Shining Cities might have to turtle up to avoid the plague of Artifex cannibals popping up there.

Shit's getting real.

>2017 years since our lord christ died for our sins
>People think 4E is good
2E is the best, I'll never forget when tribals could kill the fuck out of anything if you played well enough.

>4E
>playing anything but Coriolis Knights
Have fun getting plowed by Wind Lances across the table, kids.

>People think the best thing about Gerifalin is the army-wide camouflage bonus
>People think the worst thing about Gerifalin is suffering poison damage from all melee weapons

Both wrong. The best and worst thing about Gerifalin is the conversions. With 4e doing nothing to address the fact that 1/2 our Core Units and 3/4 of our Special Attachments have no official models, the only way to run a decent list is to GO WIDE with the fluff for Mysterious Flesh and kitbash for the Overqueen!

You got Hunthunds? Now we've got Quivering Frogdogs. You got Grayskins? Now we've got Brothers of Slithering. You've got Praetorian Sunfuckers (or whatever you call them in 4e)? Now we've got Metalloid Writhers. Shit, you can use the extra pauldrons to build a Wailing Grail, as long as you file off the sigils.

I'm even thinking about making a Nesting Princess out of that CoM "Scantypope" pin-up model they did in 2015. Just add claws!

Nesting Princess would be a cool centerpiece, but she's fucking useless. Better to go for a Malignant Swamplord.

Yes, the conversion factor is what makes Gerifalin so fun. No two armies look alike, unlike most of the other armies. (army-wide camoflouge is pretty great, though)

I also agree that you should go for the Malignant Swamplord, and make sure he specializes in the School of Plague, instead of Nature for maximum carnage

MAELSTROM KINGS FOREVER!!!

>Atrifex still shit
Just take two lords, add maximum points in geomancy for first and max points into weather magic Then, with some good deployment you can have an impenetrable magic fort. Most opponents just concede after my Grand Atromaster casts Wind Wall and they realise they can't even shoot into my positions while geomancer just chips enemies out with tremors.

Sure it doesn't work in scenarios where you have to move (if you can't bring flying gargoyles), but in others its hilarious. If the devs wouldn't have meant it to be used, they wouldn't have put it into game.

>morale needed
>berzerkers are even more useless

I bet they don't even get added attacks now. Why can't I have my merc zerks?

Good riddance. Aku force was stupidly power with the whole portal schtick.
Played against them once, didn't realise the depth I was on until the Robot unit my guys had destroyed crawled out of his fourth portal (they can get more than 3 with those scientist units everyone thought was useless) for the fourth fucking time. It's not good design if best, if not only way to win is to not actually fight enemy units.

But that's not all. i hope they fixed the portrayal of more technologically advanced factions when they finally publish the rules and models for Klingons

What's the best oath/lineage for my merchant lord? I play with oath of binding to force the enemy meelee units to target my golems, freeing up my lance casters to pick off high priority targets at will, but I'm wondering what other oaths or lineages I could take

>Running golems
>with merchant lord
Golems are shit without running awakened golems as leaders, and you can't take them with merchant lord.
But if you are playing lance casters, take hall of electricity stackers as oath for those sweet energy tokens you can give not only to lance casters, but to your artillery as well. Sure it takes points but removing golems makes up for it. You don't even need claywall because energy gives additional range and damage and your oath generates it so it doesn't run out at 3 turn.

How fucking retarded do you have to be to waste your life pretending to talk about a make-believe game of make-believe?

You only have a finite amount of time in your life, and you waste it doing this.

>He doesn't know about wind wall
it's on a goddamn neutral lore. Anyone could take it and laugh as your Lances do no damage even if they manage to hit
