What's the advantage of featuring Oni in your games in place of regular ogres?

What is the difference between an Ogre and an Oni? Is it just that an Oni will eat you with soy sauce on the side?

Oni usually have magic powers, in DnD for example they're distinct for gaseous form and usually having some kind of ability to trick people. Lots of people use them as Ogre Mages, which is odd, considering Oni Mages are a classification of their own in Pathfinder, for example.

I have both.

Oni are the more civilized and cunning version of their western ogre cousins. They've organized into Yakuza style clans, and are willing to work with humans rather than brainlessly eating them when they need to.

Actually, in many stories they are depicted as civilized and good at magic (but having anger issues and being vicious in general)

What I was shooting for is exactly what laid out. They are willing and able to form civilizations but those civilizations are ruthless and not knowing proper customs is no excuse for committing a faux pas.

Not really, they are no more magical than any other creature (good or evil) in European folklore and myth. Being larger than normal humans who eats other humans is what defined someone as a ogre. The monstrous cave-dweller who kidnapped children to eat, the cannibal witch in the woods and the corrupt lord who enjoyed the taste of young women are some of the different forms they came in.

Ogre-wizards were pretty much the robot-ninja its day. A dangerous creature made even more dangerous by fusing it with another dangerous creature.
