Ok, how would I implement a fascist society/group in a dnd setting without it coming across as blatantly obvious or inherently evil? I'm genuinely curious to see if it could do well as a plot hook the PCs latch onto

Just make them communist

Make them ship no!jews out from their country without resorting to violence. Maybe they are super rich nation and can afford bribing lesser races to gtfo.

I don't know how I can help you, but could we have a proper a civil conversation this time anons? Oh what the fuck am I thinking, this is the internet where there's no consequence in calling someone a faggot since they're behind a computer screen Just have another and have a fun time with your thread. Hope you get your answers and enjoy the shit show when the political faggots come.

I would say just make it heavily patriotic and doing alright. Let them see some parts of the government after a while but don't just throw them right into the political landscape. If it just feels coincidentally fascist after they've been exposed to it, there shouldn't be too much of a problem.

Why is this something you want to do anyway? What kind of world is this happening in?

Have them argue some perfectly reasonable points from the perspective of classic adventurers. Orc/lizardmen warbands need to be aggressively driven away, orcs and lizardmen should be viewed with suspicion. Write prejudice into the setting, then have this group simply act on it more overtly. Adventurers should be encouraged, as long as they stay out of the cities when they use their more powerful spells and abilities. Leadership should be given to the most competent, not the most appealing, kings are right out. Maybe have the players be hired to defeat some bandits, then the group kill the bandits first, and the players loose out on reward, but the group don't claim the reward. (Fascists are big on rule of law). Portray them as pragmatists at first, then show the more extreme stuff once the players are somewhat okay with the things they are doing.

This guy has the right idea. For whatever reason, communism still gets support from people despite it's many attempted failures at running a government. You might even have your players wanting to join the communist revolution. You can run an evil campaign at that point.

Nothing would be as effective in achieving that as having NPC's that work for that government interact (somewhat) positively with the party. Doesn't have to be tea-time with glorious leader, but have them pull some weight off the shoulders of some beleaguered governor and have that become the basis of a good relationship. Don't feel afraid to show the nasty side of that kind of government, though, just show the party that not everyone in it is a bag of blood, hate, and XP.

Aside from that, know that fascist/authoritarian governments rarely come into being for no reason. Usually they come into existence as a result of some existential crisis that effects all levels of society, a threat that would shift the common persons thoughts away from 'fluffy' ideals of liberty and equality and more towards preserving social cohesion/safety at all costs. Whether this threat is something real or something trumped up by reactionaries, something mundane or something magical, is up to you. But if you can show this government responding to the threat in a way that gives people peace-of-mind, you can make it sympathetic to your players.

I'm pleasantly surprised with you anons. You've made me proud as of the moment for not acting balls to the walls ridiculous political faggot.
Have a

Well, first, what do you want the fascists to do for the campaign? If they're supposed to be villains that aren't obvious at first, just have them help the PCs, imagine the Order of the Flaming Rose from the Witcher.

Lefty fag with a real fascination with fascism here.
Have a large military cadre that blames all economic/spiritual/military problems on outsiders.

Make all the elves and halflings carry around five or six scrolls vouching for their presence.

Fascism places all resources under the control of the military. All trade and labor guilds should have professional soldiery, officers, and veterans in charge of them. Show how the military cracks down on dissent and outsiders by squeezing them economically.

Dwarves are the best fantasy race to implement a fascist society by my reckoning. They're militarily strong, supported by strong industry, surrounded by convent enemies below them, obsessed with clan and kin.

Oh additional thing to my point (Im the Reasonable points from adventurers perspectives.)
Fascists should really like the Adventurer. As an Ideal. Its the citizen protecting the community from the outsider, who then gets hated for his sacrifice. Its exactly what the Nazis played upon in Germany with war vets.

Just do a lesser known group like some south american ones or English flash in the pan fascists.

Well may as well get some context, seeing as this discussion is going pretty well. The idea is that it's a multi nation world, one declared war, fucked up one and invaded a second while its closest neighbor got to defending its borders. The second nation is the one I'd like to come off as the facist one, driven to dictatorship for the safety of its native people (kinda like what suggests), acting out with kindness to its people for the most part but being pretty scummy when it comes to authority and military, which if the party has been introduced to the big bads before this point they might even sympathize with. Kinda like starship troopers I guess, but less bugs and more demons. Might go for bonus points if the party has a teifling and they're forced to stay in shittier parts of cities/towns even when they're a proven ally

Change their swastika to a different sun symbol.

Not this. Way too heavy handed if you want them to not automatically hate the fascists.

Tone down by:
--Making blaming outsiders less constant/obvious and more focus on how the natives can improve things through their own labors and efforts for the collective.
--Making 5 or 6 scrolls for elves/halflings/whipping-boys into just a pass for all non-natives to enter/trade (maybe different levels of passes?). Make anyone and everyone recognize them as not from around there, whether do to accent, race, or small town knowing everyone.
--Military controlled resources is a good idea, but don't necessarily show the cracking down on dissenters/outsiders immediately. Make sure they're always asked for their writ of trade/whatever by anyone who knows they're outsiders.

The traditional way to trick people into Fascism is to create the narrative that the nation is beset by corrupt politicians that are in the pocket of an ethnic scapegoat and a revolutionary ideology that is secretly all powerful. Drow or Goblins would work. The vital element is of course a strong-man NPC who spots the enemy and is the only one who can stop them.

The problem is that DnD is a power fantasy and you can't really have Fascism without a Liberal democracy for it to overthrow. It will be very difficult to make your players feel oppressed, fearful or zealously loyal enough to overlook it when your strongman starts changing the narrative to suit his ends and does away with democratic institutions. I find it hard to believe that the players wouldn't see this as a heel turn even if you fudge the history and make the ethnic threat exist.

It will be challenging, but if brainwashing people wasn't easy the marketing industry wouldn't exist.

Ostentatious to the point of camp is a hallmark of Fascism.

DND would be the easiest fucking setting to have a Fascist regime rise up in, considering literally the entire world is (mostly) a mismatch of literally dozens of races living together.

All it would take is "X FIRST!" gaining momentum before they go full blown Sturmabteilung on whatever other races happen to have even a sliver of power.

But the OP specifically wants NOT blatantly obvious. So gotta hit it with the smaller hammer, it's a little more fiddly.

Make them early-Empire Romans.

watch season 4 of legend of korra and literally just hit the exact same beats

This is extremely easy to do. Make competent, likable quest-givers in positions of power like governor, mayor, city guard captain, etc. Give them missions to suppress the worst examples of a specific race (like, say, orc criminals) so that they get an initial bad impression of the jew-surrogate race. Make sure that these friendly, helpful characters occasionally talk about how much turmoil the orcs have brought to the kingdom with their thieving, violent ways.

At some point have them find one of these orcs or what-have-you who seems upright and trustworthy... then have that orc betray the shit out of them. Ideal situation is that they have the trustworthy orc act as their surrogate to collect a hard-earned quest reward while they are wrapped up with final lawful details of the mission, but instead of giving it to the party the orc betrays them and uses the money to flee the country.

By now they will both in and out of character start to hate the orcs. Give them occasional missions to patrol orc villages or neighborhoods to keep them safe from some magical beast, standard giant rat extermination quest. Instead of appreciative, though, all the orcs there actively hostile to them, just like any oppressed people would be. They're shitty to the party in conversation, try to overcharge them or rip them off, give them bad information, and run off rather than do easy things to help the party when your players are fighting to protect them. Make the only one who thanks them for their efforts the weary, over-worked not-SS agent in charge of the not-ghetto. Hell, he even gives the party a bonus out of his own paycheck, since they helped him out so much.

They find out a couple missions later that the orcs left him to die in an alley fighting monsters or something.

By this point you can basically just straight up copy the Final Solution and your players will be screaming about how it doesn't go far enough.

But usually in D&D the group saying X FIRST gets killed by a diverse band of four to six murderhobos.

This.

I remember videos during the 2016 American election where they had Bernie supporters cheering for Hitler’s speeches given by a “fellow Berniebro”.

Literally just say it’s a socialist movement if you hang out with Leftists/are a Leftist yourself.

Fuck your /pol/shit. Make it blatantly obvious and totally evil. Fuck off and take this shit to your containment board. You don't need to get Veeky Forumss input on your social engineering experiments to hide your facism in plain sight.

...

I think that if OP wants to really bamboozle the players, he doesn't even need to bring racism into it. have it be a religious order, some spooky cult-ish looking organization which the fascists have banded together to attack

Just using Orcs works really well though, since PCs typically have the prejudice already worked in, since when playing D&d and someone says Orc, the first thought is random encounter.

Alright OP, sounds cool. You may want to start (if you haven't already) putting to thought what policies this government might put in place for national defense in wartime. You won't be for a lack of historical examples here, but I seem to remember a little documentary on Youtube about Britain's agricultural reforms during WW2 that put some of the social pressures of war in a less malevolent light.

Your best chance of having your party not become enemies of the government is to have the environment stress that there are thousands of people's lives at stake here. That what inconveniences and harsh faces/voices they inevitably face are there for a good reason, not just personal hostility or prejudice. Again, don't remove those things out of the picture , you don't want to be 'The GM who preaches the merits of his Iron Fisted Rule', but have your players know they aren't getting shit on because some ponce in a powdered wig woke up on the wrong side of the bed.

As for your tiefling situation? How about you have checkpoints throughout the region, that the Tiefling can only pass if a sum of gold is exchanged for the right papers. Maybe doing a favor for the right public official could achieve the same end goal? In addition, don't forget that not every guardsman who blocks the Tiefling's path has to give them an oil check with rough leather gloves while cackling evilly. A good number of the people on the Government's payroll should just be doing their jobs.

Yeah. Italian fascists weren't even particularly racist (not any more than, say, Britons in the 1920s). For them it was all about cultural supremacy.

Mussolini even gave official approval to a song that basically invited Italian soldiers to marry Abyssinian girls and having kids with them, as part of civilizing the new colony.

en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Faccetta_Nera

Removing the racist element makes it less obvious, in fact. Again, think Imperial Rome more than Nazi Germany.

I’m not even /pol/ though. You can literally look it up for yourself right this very second if you wanted to.

This is tinfoil hat-tier paranoia. Lay off the media for a day or two.

its ironic that the first two posts that shit up the thread are ones bitching about /pol/.

But maybe having the tiefling situation being the person speaking to them giving valid examples of when fiends/devils have screwed over people by using tieflings as proxies. Have them show it as anti-demon, not anti-tiefling (The nazis started out showing themselves as anti-communist, not anti-jew, since alot of philosophers who supported communism were jews at the time)

Just say that X race is being oppressed in their own homelands or some shit, or give them a reason for wanting to put their race before the others that isn't just mindless "HURR X STRONG X-MANITY FUCK YEAH" dickwaving and your players should be at least a little interested.

That or just let the players fight against them because honestly they're going to see "Big militaristic nation? Must be the enemy!" no matter what ideology said nation is currently supporting. They could be magical glitter people trying to enforce peace and love across the nation with their giant kitten armies and players will STILL probably try and overthrow them.

You might as well take a few notes from this

>/pol/shit is aok
>abloobloobloo SJWs shittign up my games because no one said anything
Hypocrites.

By having their views be absolutely correct.

There really are mobs of horrible monsters and degenerate, people-eating tribes of completely unredeemable demihumans running around just outside the kingdom's walls. Inside the walls, there's demon worshipers and traitors causing trouble.

You want to keep them out? You need a big army, because there's a lot of them. You want to keep the people inside safe? That's what the secret people are for.

Resources are stretched thin, so the military gets prioritized for food and healthcare and is a very good way to support your family. The police do very bad things to very bad people, and it's absolutely necessary. The only way for the kingdom to survive is through strict, uncompromising adherence to assigned duties and total obedience.

Everybody knows how bad things are, but they realize that this is the way things have to be if they're going to live through it.

Then bring the PCs over from their comfy, safe, food-for-everyone 'enlightened' nation that doesn't deal with even a fraction of the troubles here on a daily basis.

And enjoy their reactions.

A dynamic tyrant raised from the common soldiery deposes the aging, inept throne in a soft coup. He disenfranchises the corrupt military old guard and promises improved living conditions for the great mass of the kingdom, but warns it will require harmonious effort, especially considering said kingdom borders a savage, war-mongering ersatz kingdom of orcs that has recently fallen under the sway of the greatest tyrant seen in centuries.

>Authoritarianism is always bad.

Some day, you'll realize that you don't actually want to be free. You'll willingly trade your ability to move where you want and do what you want for the feeling of safety and security against a hostile world. It's not far off.

Not everything is so black and white. Most ideologies have their place(s) in most worlds.

This is actually really easy. Have a militaristic-inclined king who is rightfully fearful and distrustful of his neighboring countries. Have them becoming isolationist to protect themselves from the outer threats. Make the town guards the good guys, for once.

holy shit this isn't saying a fascist ideology is good. Its asking how you can present a fascist ideology without having it be obvious that its fascist, so the party don't immediately go "these guys are the bad guys, don't trust them, ignore their requests for help, hinder them at every opportunity etc." If you had read the guys posts, you'd see they are the bad guys but only after a reveal.

Not that user I was the user hoping this wouldn't turn to a shit show, but I think it's slowly going down that hill, but I respectfully disagree with you. I concur that most ideologies have their place in the world, be it in history or now, but I am not willing to trade my ability to move or my freedoms. If I was living in an authoritarian society I would not be allowed to live in the recluse away from people. They would push me to do something I don't want to do, because all I want to do is grow my crops, sell my poultry, and live on my farm away from others. However, as always, to each their own.

Ow the edge.

Make them believe that order > freedom.
Don't make their society an ideal place where everything works perfectly, everyone is happy and they are proven to be totally right, that's just going from one extreme to another. Instead, show that people live in a pretty peaceful and secure environment and shit gets done because the government focuses a lot on efficency, but in exchange freedom of speech is a mere myth, the government makes sure to keep its people under close watch and anyone who tries to oppose or criticize them tends to end up inside a jail or something worse.
Also, throw different characters. Have a few guys who are legit dicks to show that even in such a society you will have people finding ways to fuck over someone else but also show people who really believe this society's ideals are for the best and care about the people.
I'm trying to do something similar and so far this is what I came up with to write a fascist society without going full "everyone is a nazi who rapes puppies for shits and gigles" or "everyone is a perfect human being, they all live in an utopia and the people who don't think so are stupid or evil".

Wasn't "Berniebro" bullshit a narrative made up by Hillary supporters because "You're not voting for a woman so that means you're a nazi gun violence loving sexist"? I'm not sure what that has to do with making "not evil fascists" aside from some weird evolution of arguments against socialism.

It's specifically an extreme and provocative statement. But seeing the way (our) world is turning, with what's going on in the EU and US concerning immigration and customs and whatnot, I really do think we're going in that direction. I don't think it's good, but I don't really have skin in the "future of the world" game having been born sterile. Plus I work in private security, people being afraid directly benefits me.

Really the way to make authoritarianism seem reasonable is to be reasonable about it. Make the guards (generally) good people trying to protect the town from perceived threats. Ultimately it doesn't matter if those perceptions are correct, just like in the real world people can act without all the information. Make the soldiers defenders instead of invaders. Make the king a benevolent dictator, with his people's best interest truly at heart.

Authoritarianism Liberalism

You can exist on that spectrum anywhere. You don't have to go so extreme.

It was bullshit cooked up by alt-righters, actually.

Most inspiring writer I have ever read on freedom is Vasily Grossman. He has a quote in one of his books which is just like your post. Have you ever read him?

>I don't think it's good, but I don't really have skin in the "future of the world" game having been born sterile
Are you retarded?

>spoiler
I'm a voulnatry celibate because I can see where the world is going. Things will get worse before they get better and I don't want my children go through that pain if I could prevent it. I'm sorry for you or glad depending on how you feel. I like your argument user, it's good to know that there's still people that's willing to have a conversation without going straight to insults.
No, I sadly have not. However, you've piqued my interest and I'll take at look at his books.
That was quite rude. You should only be rude if the other person is being rude.

Sometimes I wonder if I have autism, but I can empathize with people pretty well so I don't think so. Other problems definitely. Diagnosed depressed.
Why do you ask? Because of my lack of concern about the future? Granted, adoption and surrogates exist, but I'm genuinely afraid I wouldn't be able to love a child that isn't mine. I've been dealing with issue for a long time, user.

It's been nice talking with you about this, even if we don't agree.

The part I'm thinking of is

>"I used to think freedom was freedom of speech, freedom of the press, freedom of conscience. But freedom is the whole life of everyone. Here is what it amounts to: you have to have the right to sow what you wish to, to make shoes or coats, to bake into bread the flour ground from the grain you have sown, and to sell it or not sell it as you wish; for the lathe operator, the steelworker, and the artist it’s a matter of being able to live as you wish and work as you wish and not as they order you to. And in our country there is no freedom – not for those who write books nor for those who sow grain nor for those who make shoes."

As a Soviet Jew, reporter for Red Star during WW2 and the first journalist to visit Treblinka he might be instantly disregarded by some people ITT but he wrote very fiercely for the individual against every authoritarian regime he knew.

The idea that investment in a child is the sole reason you can have a stake or hope for the future is horrible. Might as well have never written anything down, never built anything, never painted or drawn or even thought.

I feel that way sometimes. Legacy, I think, is something that lots of people struggle with. I don't believe it is unique to me, nor is my response. Additionally, I'm not in a position of authority to impose my viewpoints on others, nor would I accept such a position precisely because of my lack of vision for the future. I help people when I can. Maybe that's enough, probably not.

Go ahead and sling more insults at me, though.

Probably one of the funkiest and most compelling thing about Fascism and National Socialism is its aesthetic obsessions. I suppose you can get the basics in - exaltation of the physical form, martial and robust architecture, and rejection of non-literal art. But I do think it loses something when it's not a reaction to the greater comtemporary world - a lot of it might just be taken as read.

Maybe it's the Lefty in me, but I do think that Fascism should be fundamentally unsettling to those that aren't caught up in the ideology. Even if things haven't actually gone south, it seems like it should still feel like it's slowly tilting towards something.

Reading the occult Nazis like Miguel Serrano is a fucking trip. I rip a bunch of that stuff for my games.

You’re genuinely an idiot or a political zealot. Choose one.

I don’t know. (Absolutely nothing against Bernie supporters, but...) All I know is that Bernie supporters cheered for a Hitler speech because they thought it was Sander’s own words

t. The guy you replied to

Monty from the unexpectables did a really good job with this for the Clergy of Oren.
Religious nation worshiping the god of the sun. Views anyone who is from the under dark as evil and must be purged. Is extremely religious and authoritarian, if they fear the sun going dark, which would end all life on the surface.
The actual god Oren is just a giant space lion who sits on a sun and gives no shits about mortals so long as he still gets to do his sun thing.
Like they are bad guys, but there fear of the entire world being enveloped by darkness is a real one that effects everyone not just themselves.

Kuvira did nothing wrong.

Wasn't the Earth Kingdom in The Last Airbender kind of fascist too before Long Fen got screwed by Azula?
What's up with the Earth Kingdom and fascism?

Well, I probably should've elaborated when I posted this. What I mean is that communism, on the surface and if you don't think about it too much, actually looks pretty great. Everyone can make a living (theoretically), things are fair, etc. Its only once you start to dig a bit that you realize the issues with the ideology, like the extreme authoritarianism required to make it function on a large scale. It's a good way to make your players walk into a nation and see that everyone is fed, everyone gets the same wages, healthcare is free, and say "wow, this place is awesome!" Eventually, they begin to see that the ostensibly classless society has a rigid ruling elite who determine the fates of everyone below them, likely a KGB or CIA-type secret division of the government which controls opposition and makes dissenters/asocials/malcontents disappear. If the PCs have been working for the government especially, you could even throw into question the righteousness of their former actions: Was that bandit camp we were hired to eradicate just a group of people who were trying to fight the authoritarian system? Is the reason every shopkeeper is so kind to us while we're working with the Army because they fear that showing displeasure will end with their body at the bottom of a lake? Stuff like that could be very compelling if that's the tone you're going for.

>Fascism should be fundamentally unsettling to those that aren't caught up in the ideology
That's an element of how I do it. The only nation that pulls off fascism in my main setting is an alien species who simply don't hold the same values as humans. They have a very different mindset that is rather disturbing to many humans. Their art is creative, but all focused on getting more meaning out of simpler shapes while making the art as physically large as possible. Their buildings are massive but largely undecorated (as a symbol of strength and pragmatism rather than aesthetics). Their legal code is strict, and punishment revolves around shame rather than monetary loss (the government can take what it needs anyway) or imprisonment (considered to be a waste of time and resources). They are distinctively not the same as many other fascists as they have no demonized underclass or explicitly persecuted minority, but they will insist that everyone in their country do exactly what they say, live where the government wants them to, and work hard according to what species they are. The civil and military government are very similar (especially public services and social services). The species doesn't need an "other" to hate, they just need an objective to drive towards and a government that has the power to enforce that goal.
Really, all the alien nations in my setting don't have the same variation of thought that humans have. They each have their own ways and governments that coincide with how their brains work.

My players thought it was a little odd, but they were being hired to do some dirty work and weren't in a position to complain. It made them a bit mad when they realized how expensive they were, so they subtly wormed their way into getting a bit more pay than they had settled on. That was a mistake.

You best have a source if you're gonna make a claim like that

well one can attribute that to the fact that the reasons the government failed were mostly putzes by the administration itself and not something wrong with the Ideology.

I myself believe that it can work but the whole idea of the system of government that communism uses makes it very easy to get dumb assholes in power, just look at Stalin and Mao.

And thats why despite seeing its merits Communism is best left shelved indefinetly

Eh its kinda neat. definitively something that can be explored. the thing with DnD style settings is that there ARE things that are indeniably, naturally evil and chaotic and absolutely will want to kill you for X reason and would love to make civilisation fall. In real life? Not really but in this kind of setting? Yea shit can be intense, just fucking look at the setting of Torch Bearer. Humanity hangs on the brink with heavily fortified city-states being the only ways to keep the shit outside and they still try and assault the cities at nightfall and thats just the shit that feels like getting out of the woods and forgotten caverns and ruins where the slightly insane adventurers dare go trying to get rich quick or die trying.

dont you mean
>to the point of Kampf

You get a similar tone from a lot military sci-fi. There's a very real and evident Other poses an immediate existential threat to us, and the only effective way to combat it is authoritarian militarism. It's a fundamentally compelling construction, even when the author's being deeply ironic or circumspect about it (the Starship Troopers movie, or Old Man's War).

I don't know if this really qualifies, but there's a church-like group of Paladins residing in the largest city in the realm. These Paladins, along with the librarians and other "holy" patrons are all part of a big secret. You see this group exterminates inhuman creatures (vampires, werewolves, ghouls, dragons, whatever) across the realm for a fee. Their posts can be found in only the most rich cities and towns while the poorer ones suffer and even get wiped out entirely.

So basically it's a for-profit monster killing organization that hides under the guise of honor, courage, and all that other Paladin-esque shit. But the kicker? The group actually has a sort of "factory" where it creates more and more of these minions, at least in the case of vampires, werewolves, and other transferable plagues, so that they will continue to get paid.

Anyone that discovers this secret conveniently goes missing.

National Socialism is intrinsically LE. Are you asking how to make a place secretly LE, how to not just make Elven Nazis, or are you asking how to make NS not LE?

youtube.com/watch?v=qNMAp8kXWrc

He is asking how to make a fascist society without its member being obvious cartoon villains.

The same way you normally do, I suppose. Make normal seeming guys whose motives are evil. Very few people should be cartoon "kick the dog" evil, imo, unless you are running a game who's tone is supposed to be pulpy and over the top.

Just play Dark Heresy, works perfectly. Maybe the fantasy version works too but I haven't played that.

I can understand where you're coming from, but I just cannot in any way condone a communist style of government it appears to completely ignore or outright work against human nature to try and establish a Utopian system that just will not come to pass so long as human beings exist. It's the ravings of a man who saw the worst of Industrial Capitalism when it was really gaining steam, and many of the issues he had with it were relevant during his period which have by and large stopped being as relevant today.

It's an interesting thought experiment, and should remain only a thought experiment.

Give them a heavy Roman aesthetic.

You read judge dredd before? Basically make everything else worst by comparison. But seriously though, Judge Dredd is in my opinion a good way to do a fascist society that is not nazis. Starship Troopers (the book, not the movie) is a another good reference point.

Considering life saving medicine is still sold at a premium even though it does not cost that much to produce, I'd say it is relevant. Don't get me wrong, I am in no way saying that communism is the way to go, but corporations should not have too much power. A pure political system of any kind communist or capitalist will fail. What people fail to understand is that in order for a society to be good, you cannot just have no control or total control, nor can you just focus on individuals or force everyone into a collective.

At the same time, I feel like many PC's wouldn't really give a fuck about a fascist regime if it helped them/ gave them shit.

Do you even need it to not be blatantly evil? Just make it cool as shit.
The Empire from Star Wars is worse than any fascist regime in human history and people still love it due to its great aesthetics and how cool they are, specially Vader.
Just tone down the mass-genocide a bit and show sympathetic people working along with the assholes and it should work.

Half orcs and orcs (or any non-human race shoehorned into human society) rally behind some well-spoken idiot who convinces them that all their problems are because of the humans and other races. Socialist uprising in a far-off but largeish city, they have enough time and production potential to get some uniforms for their police-state. There you go.

Now go kill em'

Why would that make him retarded?

>all fascists are nazis

Fascism is form of government.
Nazi is looking at your failures and deciding that they are the fault of [insert scapegoat here].

So blacks are nazis for blaming whitey?

Looking at BLM shit and "melaninated gods"?

Yeah, that's how it starts. Murica is up for a fun decade.

Oh, that's the plot of claymore.

Yeah, thats precisely my point, Communism goes against something in human nature, its far too idealistic for its own good, which is why, as I said, one may see its merits, and on paper its beautiful, but it doesnt translate well into reality.

Same principle may apply to stuff like Slaanesh worship in 40K, sure, you may get raped by tentacles but you get to keep living an eternity of sex, thats on paper, in reality you learn that the sex is mostly too weird for you to enjoy while maintaining your own sanity and the tentacles are far more common than that naked priest told you

The SA were the original Knockout Game!

But IRL, Blacks in America are a minority group who, to they extent they engage in activism do so in a context where open and systemic oppression is a vivid living memory -
one that's been replaced with a merely tacit version. National Socialism was the result of some very real and some entirely invented grievances on the part of a majority group that were largely and arbitrarily directed onto a minority group.

Also, while there is some wild-ass self-mythologizing going on in Black community (that most Black Activists rightfully make fun of), the Hoteps and Nation of Islam guys can't hold a candle the constructed identity of Aryanism.

Have a threat that can disguise itself or control people
Make leadership have women
Use the word council
Have the state's accepted race be "humanoid" instead of human, even though there's races that seem probably humanoid that won't be considered humanoid
Have noticeable social programs and welfare
Have a previous villain be one of their enemies

Both are good examples of somewhat sympathetic totalitarian states where magic is a major part of how society works

To give sum them up:
Cresce uses undead as a labour source, non-humans are allowed by are unoficially second-class citizens, has a queen, commie economics where you are warded currency from the government instead of your employer, a pagan faith, good relations with smaller surrounding nations, and hates the main religion of Alderode.

Alderode considers using undead for any purpose to be evil, for one reason or another doesn't have any non-humans but does have various "castes" of humans that have different appearances lifespans and roles in society, has some sort of council with representatives from the different regions and the main 2 faiths, capitalism as long as you don't work outside of your caste or do anything else that would catch the ire of the morality police, their main faith is basically about a dude who went to the afterlife to kill the pagan's gods since reality was too cruel and their second main faith is worshippers of those very same pagan gods, bad relations with surrounding nations, and is surprisingly tolerant of different religions.

Also in this setting there is no difference between clerics and mages, magic comes from certain places, magic doesnt reach very far under water for some reason, government and business use illusions to advertise, magic works on temporarily tricking the force that controls reality, and judging by the author's taste you can only be a mage/cleric if you are a 30ish year-old man with a keen wit and a tragic backstory.

Ssaelism isn't the majority faith of Alderode, it's just the only place with a large community of Ssaelit that are tolerated at all.

I'd rather not

Do this. Communists are worse than Nazis anyway.

Nazis weren't Fascists and Fascists aren't Nazis

>well one can attribute that to the fact that the reasons the government failed were mostly putzes by the administration itself and not something wrong with the Ideology.

Absolutely wrong. Marx's own Communist Manifesto called for recruiting sympathetic bourgeoisie to form a new manager class as they already knew how to allocate resources. Anyone who didn't see Communism inevitably creating a new aristocracy of party elites who administer all of the goods is someone who couldn't hack through all of Marx's dense verbiage and got entranced by the slogans. Communism is unworkable from start to finish. I won't even comment on your reddit spacing, but this is Veeky Forums, you have to graduate from your teenage liberal retard phase before you can post here.

We all know this isn't true.

Make the external threats legitimate and scary. Show one drow raiding party peeling a little dwarf girl's face and suddenly genociding anything that sets foot near the dwarf portion of the underdark is a lot more reasonable.

Uh

Hell that was easy. If your an exalted Alt-centrist and your players are bleeding-heart liberals, it’s more than welcome to show them the real face of communism
