Here is something new and maybe unknown to you folks of TG. This is a tabletop wargame where you build your own models.
MFZ is a tabletop wargame with simple rules and variable scale. The game is meant to be played with your units being created out of lego and at what is known as 7 point scale (that is to say, a human being is represented as being 7 studs tall), but the rules can be adapted to use just about anything.
There is no official kits being sold by the makers of the game, but rather you can buy kits from third party sites, use your existing lego collection, or buy lego sets or bricks directly.
You can make your own units, and rules for giving your units stats are straight forward and simple, so there is no need to proxy or count as for your army.
The scale of this game, from taking a glance at the rules, I would describe as being at the skirmish level, focusing on small numbers of highly customized troopers as opposed to large numbers of nameless canon fodder. in general, a 2 player game will consist of 4-6 units for a skirmish and 5-8 units for a battle. The number of units per player decreases as the number of players in total increases. >Rules (purchase is optional) mobileframezero.com/mfz/
By coincidence I made some teams a few months ago when I was going through my legos. I've never played it though.

Hey I remember this! I too have made a few mecha in my time. Never got a chance to play though.

Cool mechs everyone. I would show off mine except all my designs are stolen off of the forums.

>7 studs tall I think it's actually seven PLATES tall, i.e. the height of two bricks and a plate.
Joshua Bailey
This used to posted about daily in like 2011 I think? Its fun but just kinda fizzled.
Brayden Butler
>Catalog yeah, reading the link I posted, you are 100% right. I blame lego starwars for teaching me that a 1 by 1 round plate is a stud.
Michael Gutierrez
I see. I was not around in 2011 so I thought this was obscure game that very few people outside of it's community knew about.

i always wanted to make these but i've been worried that my personal collection wouldn't really suffice

Whiteagle. This is someone you know from the BrikWars forums, and I'm here to tell you to stop shoving our game in everyone's faces.
Look man, if people want to talk about MFZ, let them do it in peace. It's a good, well-designed game too and deserves our respect. All that your jingoistic proselytizing accomplishes is make people hate us and give us a bad name.
So stop jacking off to tentacle porn, move out of your mom's house, get a real fucking job instead of being a welfare leech, and stop shitting up other people's threads. We're begging you, even if you're too pathetic to do the first three things, at least do the last one. If you truly love BrikWars, stop doing this to them and to us.
Jackson Hill
we used to have lots of threads about it but the game has issues (balanced around being 1v1v1) and doesn't do well for incorporating more crazy shit like BOLO tanks and what not.
Ultimately it was a cool interest but generally a waste of time for people looking for wargame alternatives.

whiteagle is gay

So do your stats change depending on how you build the mech or something? I just can't imagine how this is meant to work. What's the basic mechanics of mech creation?
Nicholas Roberts
It's kinda like tau battlesuit slots iirc.
Andrew Garcia
I just skimmed the PDF and it's really disappointing. I was expecting there to be a point to the whole lego thing, but it seems to only be an aesthetic decision. Nothing wrong with legos, I just thought there was some kind of system in place to make your designs affect the mechanics.

From what I recall back when it was fresh, the reason they suggest lego is that it is so common that even if you don't already have it you can easily get it. They didn't want there to be anything stopping you from playing. Here's the rules, slap something together to represent your force and start playing.
Austin Fisher
You can opt between different ranged weapons, sensors, armor, or movement. Each mech has 4 slots so you can either diversify or double up different systems. Since you have 5 mechs you can have dedicated artillery, or frontline armor, or fast spotters, etc.
Also technically you can play with anything, the LEGO aspect is meant to appeal to mecha builders.

This is Veeky Forums, we see much worse than annoying namefags. While it is true that his constant shilling combined with his generally annoying posting style turns people off of BrikWars before they've even tried it, we're not personally bothered by him.

I did a review on this polybag for the Lego General on /toy/ a couple weeks ago:
>Picked up the Quake minimech polybag today and HOLY BUCKETS is there ever a lot of useful pieces in it! I remember when the light bley studs with holes were 25 cents each and this set comes with seven of 'em. Other pieces include a whole mass of gold studs with holes, two of the newish bar with ball pieces, a video camera snot block, two black ingots for , and a reddish-brown Travis brick, which is what instantly sold me on it when I saw it through the transparent part of the polybag. The brown Travis was a pretty rare piece for a while because it only came in a single 1999 SW set (I actually already have two because I had two of that set from when it came out), but they've been putting them out in reddish-brown since last year apparently so here's a good place to get them. There are also some other sweet pieces like 3x3 dishes, 2x2 dishes, and a bunch of different clips and bars. >Anyway, for $3.97, I highly recommend the Quake mini mech.
I've already bought two and I'm probably going to buy one or two more today. It's a fantastic parts pack and super-useful for MF0-scale mecha.

You gave away Lego? Sheeeeeit, the stuff is super popular, holds its value and it is totally backwards compatible. At least sell it bro. Why yes, I am a massive Lego fag, thanks for asking.
Daniel Moore
This. The Minifigures alone hold quite a bit of value so long as the decals and plastic are in decent condition. There's a thriving market for certain rare bits that only come from huge sets and such.

Is Intercept Orbit (the MF0 starship spinoff) still in development or did they scrap the project?

>his constant shilling combined with his generally annoying posting style turns people off of BrikWars before they've even tried it If my obnoxiousness scared them from even looking at a free online rulebook, they're probably not the sort who'd want to play Brikwars anyways, not to mention the forums...
>just as i gave away all my lego stuff to some children WHAT?!?!
>They were poor kids, and i think that no kid should have to grow up without legos, so i just gave it to them Ah, alright then. At least poor kids will value their gifted Klocki and not use it as a makeshift bomb housing or anything.
>This is now a Lego spaceship posting thread. SPACESHIP?!?!
Kayden Garcia
I live how this one is made out of mostly older pieces.
Samuel Rogers
it's out(although the Glyph Press shop is compromised at the moment), no idea if they intend on doing anything further for MF0
Wyatt Torres
I really like the shape of this one.
Aaron Campbell
That's okay, you can hop right back on the crazy train! Buy a bunch of these, use them as robot treads.
Ha! I only got one today but I might try to build a frame with it later
>This is now a Lego spaceship posting thread. What about other vehicles
I've got enough hoverklocki to field both sides of a wargame at this point
Levi Jenkins
Fuck that, I ordered a pizza delivery quest months ago and it still hasn't arrived!
Carson Baker
And here we are! A mobile frame using just the pieces from the Quake Mech polybag! Wasn't sure how I was going to do it but then I lengthened one of the legs and the whole thing came together pretty quickly after that. Very stable and very poseable.
I'm sorry sir we're very busy this time of year but rest assured that your request will be delivered in the order in which it was received
Ian Watson
The shield arm has a fold-out grabby hand to manipulate little stuff and wave at its friends
Kevin Torres
These are the leftover pieces. I suppose if I was really playing MF0 I could use them for target markers!
Well, hope that shows that the quake minimech polypag is a good source of pieces for a frame
Cameron Stewart
Darn, I did not except this thread to be still alive. DESU I do not care about the game too much, I just got drawn to it cuz of the cool lego robots and such that people created for it. Not very much people are willing to give away the instructions for the cool stuff they build out of lego. (yes this is still OP posting.)
Nicholas Long
Looks great.
Mason Mitchell
>This thread Holy shit, I feel that childish sense of wonder and creativity flowing. I will be picking up those niniago sets or whatever but are there any others I should be looking out for?
I made this team a while back, never actually got anyone to play with me though.
Kevin Wood
never got around to play testing these, but here's a very rudimentary idea on how to handle non Mobile Frame units(or at least how they'd be statted);
Infantry, Civilian Vehicles, & Light Drones: 1 White Die, 2 Systems
Power Armor Troops, Heavy Drones, and most Combat Vehicles: Either 2 White Dice, 2 Systems, or 1 White Die, 3 Systems
Heavy Tanks: 3 White Dice, 3 Systems
Standard Mobile Frames: 2 White Dice, 4 Systems
Super-Heavy Mobile Frames: Either 3 White Dice, 4 Systems, or 2 White Dice, 6 Systems
there's probably a lot of adjusting that would need to be done(for one thing I pictured these being used primarily for games at a larger scale than standard when I first thought them up), but I think it might make for a good start at the very least
Chase Wilson
Good thread ya got here
Isaiah Gomez
Well I better get a complimentary Klocki Bread is all I'm saying...
Brody Roberts
I'm really interested in picking this up with some friends, but none of us have owned legos since we were children. What would be a good way to start building a collection? Are there specific parts that are invaluable to people in-the-know that aren't immediately obvious to someone just starting?
Nathaniel Gutierrez
Those treads are pretty sweet but the body will take some pondering over to figure out the best way to proceed.
Elijah Cooper
Is the ruleset actually good? I always thought about using the new dreampod plastic kits to build some warbands. Lego is actually really expensive and to me it's just not as aesthetically pleasing as normal models.
Isaac Ramirez
After reading through it, the rules are pretty light, but are seemingly solid. I didn't really see any rules conflicts or situations unanswered, and the d6 system look like it can work. It's not supposed to be super complex, but I think there might be a bit of depth to it. Only issues I can see is if the table size is much larger than the recommended, as the ruler scales get kinda fucky.
All in all, it doesn't seem half bad of a system, and with some home brewing, it can fix some of the bare bones nature of the core rules. As someone other user stated, optional frame classes could improve the depth a bit more.
