Kingdom Death: Monster (KDM/KD:M)

9 Understanding Edition

>What is KDM
Kingdom Death: Monster is a "Boutique Nightmare Horror" Board game, known for freaky and sometimes psychosexual monsters, a record-breaking Kickstarter campaign, and Thicc Pinups(the latter not being part of the game.)

>What is 1.5?
kickstarter.com/projects/poots/kingdom-death-monster-15
Update for the core game, as well as a new wave of expansions, promo mini-expansions, and pinups.

>How do I buy it?
You just missed the preorder window this past Black Friday. Be on the look out for a Christmas sale, there might be restocks of the 1.5 base game and/or 1.0 expansions.

>Why is the game not coming out till 2020?
It's being delivered in 4 waves. The first wave shipped the new 1.5 core game and upgrade-boxes for 1.0 editions.

>What is included in the Box/Expansions/Gamblers Chest?
Read the kickstarter, or check the contents collages posted soon.

>I can't buy it, how can I play it?
There are multiple mods on Tabletop Simulator for it.

>SCANS???????
Here's the old MEGA link for the 1.0 content. It's a bit of a mess; Piidee Effer has already promised the 1.5 version will be better organized, as well as have bookmarked PDFs.

>I don't want the minis, I don't want to play using TTS, this game is too expensive.
Suck it up and pay the price. Resell the models to recoup initial costs. Wait a few weeks for Scanon to finish scanning and Piidee Effer to then make updated PDFs and printable standees.

Previous thread, lost a bet with The Gambler:

Question , I had 5 Named survivors , 4 died in the last showdown and I have the murder event in the timeline now. My last named survivor is the most experienced and the only insane one. Does she just kill an unnamed survivor or what is your take on this?

Are events from the random hunt event table... ever good?

I believe an unnamed survivor will kill your experienced survivor. That's how it reads in the event card. First, a survivor is killed. Then you get to see who is the killer. You got only unnamed survivors at that point. As it doesn't say you need to randomise in case of ties, you get to choose who is the killer. From the faceless mass of unnamed, identical survivors.

Sure they are.

Mostly not.

Yes. Hunt events come in a few flavors
>You get hosed
>Roll or get hosed
>Roll poorly and get hosed; roll well and get prizes
>Roll to maybe get prizes

They're more skewed to the negative (hence why "Roll a random hunt event" is treated as a penalty) but random gains from the hunt are part of how survivors start gitting gud.

Rolled 82 twice. Killed 3 survivors.
One of them was because with PtY gear is more valuable than fresh dudes, but both my twilight sword wielder and a proficient zanny rolled 1's.

Just fought butcher for the first time and it just wasn't fun at all. All told, got about 15 hits, and did zero wounds to him. Pulled a trap card four times, and the other times I hit an invulnerable bodypart so no wounds. After he took out my first two survivors and got +2 speed, +2 bleed and +4 damage per hit I realized the fight was over. Once he took out the third, I just pretended that the last one killed himself, because why even play the next turn when you already know the outcome?

Is the fight supposed to be shitty and unfun, because 15 hits and zero wounds basically means that it's pointless to even hit him. If there's no point, why even do it? When he comes back, why not just save some time, skip the fight entirely, and just deduct 4 population from your settlement and archive all your resources

My settlement wasn't doing the best but I managed to get his health pretty low, maybe you're just bad at this game.

PSA: Do not leave your shit in direct sunlight

How good are you at rolling lanterns?

Not bad.

Dude just, like, roll more 10s.

Butcher is a wake-up call. He's beatable with some evasion and bandages but if you're unprepared or unlucky he'll make your survivors topple like dominoes.

The fuck? Put some weight on it or something

>Pinup artist does curvy as hell chicks
>They all have the same dejected face
I can't magical realm to this

Mine came like that...

Yeah , just did the Kingsman for the first time , blind. Same thing as trying the butcher blind for the first time too , total wipe

Not all of them.
But you're right, a lot of the pinups, especially the current ones, make this 'I'm uncomfortable, why are you doing this to me' face.
That's why I like pond scum and witch disciple.

>fight lvl 1 lion in ly2
>end fight with zero deaths, 17 resources
Lion Cub Hunt Event definitely helped but damn that felt good

Well it sounds like you got a bit unlucky but it also sounds like you just lack understanding of the game. First off he doesn't get those bonuses from Dreaded Trophies.

With the worst weapon you can have, 1 strength, you wound him on 7 if you took Survival of the Fittest and don't have any strength on your survivors.

Get a cat eye circlet and put monster grease on your survivors, and make a bandage for this fight.

The butcher is a joke compared to the year 9 battle. But he will still be much harder than your level one year 1 monsters that should be easy at year 3.

For my first butcher I got one savior with the dream of beasts, counterweight axe, complete rawhide set, some grease and dried acanthus.
One survivor with cat gut bow, +1 acc. and the circlet.
Another new survivor also decked out in rawhide with a king's spear and one survivor with some lion gear and a bone axe.

I don't think most of them will make it out of there alive, but I hope for the best.

Lets do some reasonable math here and assume bone axes on raw stat survivors, leaving out cat circlet odds manipulation because I don't feel like being that autistic about statistics right now:
>2 attacks hitting half the time each out of blindspot, 25% chance of scoring no hits at all, 50% for 1, 25% for 2

>3/15, or 1/5 hit locations are either traps or impervious to wounds
% odds of 1 hit creating a potential wound is 40%
>>odds of 2 hits pulling neither trap nor cleavers is 62%
hits pulling the trap on either draw has a 13.3% chance, pulling two cleavers has a 0.9% chance, and pulling no trap but one cleaver has a 23.8% chance
>>totals to 15.5% 2 potential wounds, 45.95% 1 potential wound, 38.325% no wound potential, with some rounding errors

>another 50% chance to wound per hit, so 1 potential wound becomes 22.975% one actual wound, 2 potential becomes 3.85% two actual wounds, 7.75% one actual wound
>>final sum is ~31% chance of one wound, ~4% two wounds, ~65% of the time full miss, impervious or trapped
So if you get fucked by previous years and you go into the Butcher with no stat bonuses and bone axes you're going to be whiffing over half the attacks you make at him, at least up until you're frenzied.

All this math doesn't really matter though, since some people just roll ones and some people roll tens.

user, this came in the mail today, and I'm overwhelmed.

have fun

I got a cinder block on it for the next 2 days at least. I left it on my desk this morning and I guess the sun had risen and it warped. It probably took less than 2 hours

And Black Knight

how the fuck do i git gud at painting, watched some tutorials but i still feel like a finger painting idiot.

Ended up badly fucking up Lucy and Zachary after a couple hours of work and I'm currently stripping them to retry

The same way you git gud in sculpting, dancing, writing, engineering or even Kingdom Death. With practice.

...

Anyone write kdm fanfic?

alternately

Just waiting on scanon for the rulebook. You can do it!

>plenty of tits, now with child rearing hips
Thus in particular is something I feel Kingdom Death does very right.
Far too often in any form of media, when a character has large (by real life standards not by anime standards) breasts they also have the saddest narrowest hips.

The KD are all hourglass-shaped so that you never forget that your time is finite and your life can run out quicker than you'd think.

Thin your paints.
Do it because its fun not because you're supposed to.
Take your time doing it.
Realise you will fuck up in the start.

These are the first models I painted since i was ~14( 8 years ago), they look shit up close but people still always comment on how cool and immersive they are.
So you know, just accept that most of us will be shit at it and have fun.

>First off he doesn't get those bonuses from Dreaded Trophies.

What do you mean? It says that for each survivor he downs, he gains 1 speed token, 2 damage tokens, and you add Bleed 1 to his attacks.

Different user commenting, but Butcher gets those bonuses only once. That "each" is a bit misleading there. Numbers in Dreaded Trophies card refer to the number of survivor miniatures on card. So, one dead survivor gives Bleed 1, and two dead survivors give Bleed 1, +1 movement & speed and three dead survivors give Bleed 1, +1 movement & speed, +2 damage.

Well shit. I was playing it that each dead survivor gave the entire card, so after the third death he had Bleed 3, +3 move, +3 speed, and +6 damage.

No wonder I thought the fight was supposed to be impossible.

Don't feel bad user, we all make mistakes.
Some of us just make bigger mistakes than others.

Buy a cheap bag of toy soldiers to practice on instead of massacring a $400 game.

Correction: Do not expose to air.
Left mine in a place that receives no light or excess heat and it still warped.

Work ongoing on prologue models. Lion is pretty much done, just needs varnish. Still trying to decide what to do with the survivors. Decided to make them super pale to properly reflect a world with practically no natural light, but think they need some more definition.

Keep under pressure so it can't warp while the binding dries.

This doesnt work as well as you'd think, molding defects can completely fuck up your paint job

>painting XCOM minis right now and finding nothing but bubbles in the arms

Should i start looking for expansions now or should i wait till xmas/wave 2?

You should start looking for male pinups

Anybody used the trick of skull flails plus blood paint on a blue savior with the fighting art that perfect hits on 9 and 10 to mill the Hand’s cards under the ‘Applause’ to win quick? Got a win with only one death to a sucker punch

And with romantic, earned a fighting art and chose the one that gives additional attacks on perfect hits

Question: does the Butcher's trophy which gives every attack bleed increase the bleed of attacks which already have them? Is bleed cumulative?

The status on the main site store says 1.5 is In Stock when I purchased it last week, is it actually? It's said unfulfilled the entire time.

You've been scammed.

kys

Yes to both points. It's why you either steamroll him with nobody dying or get wiped. Once he starts killing people it gets extremely hard to win.

Thanks.

That's how I played it, I'd have won if my zanny hadn't rolled a run of fails. Got wiped with two AI left, but they were infinite kick and hack city.

Out of the six or so times I've fought him with different groups we have only killed him once so don't get too optimistic.

That's the material adjusting to its new environment, it's been shipped by container and stored in a warehouse, ie. it's been very cold for quite some time.
It's now in your house, where it is presumably, fairly comfortably warm.
Put something heavy on it and let it sit for a while to let the materials adjust.
It'll straighten out.

Why!

>Tries to build my first survivor
>The body just won't stick to the legs
fuck, I'm using tamiya extra thin cement. Is there something I'm doing wrong that I'm not aware of?

I've had it sitting under a set of roleplaying books for a couple weeks now - pretty much since I realized the issue, so hopefully that'll fix it. I also sent an email to customer support concerning it, and the impression I got is that they'll be sending me a replacement once the rush to get all the copies out the door is over.

I hope the fix works, and otherwise you'll hopefully get a new copy.

Usually warping like that is the result of 2 or more different materials expanding or contracting at different rates, which isn't unlikely given the much warmer environment it suddenly finds itself in.

Fortunately it comes with something heavy that you can use for that.

Holy hell, just left my first butcher fight victories with no losses.
They all left the battle with at least three bleeding tokens, one to two new disorders, but also courage and understanding. My savior aged three years and my bow woman is now a specialist.
So glad he's rather bad at actually hitting stuff, because the amount of attacks he puts out is insane.
Fuck, am I relieved.

Lol. JUST WAIT.

Was there Hack City?

What happens if a savior gains the Hideous Disguise from fighting the Lion Knight? Do they ignore cursed and simply not gain it? Are they permanently stuck with it and unable to depart? Do they cease to exist?

It's an other item, is it not?
Thus they can't gain it. That's all.

kys

If a survivor has a rule prohibiting them wearing a type a gear, and they strike an event where they would gain it, they do not gain the gear nor is it kept in any fashion.

Survivors with vestaphobia cannot wear chest armor, making them immune to completely succumbing to Kings Curse, with a 2/6 chance of outright resisting it the first time they kill a Kingsman.

Holy shit, I never though about that.
>when you're so crazy you refuse to submit to the curse cause it feels too itchy

No hack city for me.

We are all from the first kickstarter , it says on the website sold out worldwide still. he took the money and ran from ks 1.5

"Haha! Yessss. Succumb to my curse, foolish mortal!"
"Ugh, no way dude, that's, like, way to itchy and looks so tight. I don't want it."
"What? No. You have no say in that matter!"
"Gosh, like, whatever right. I said I don't want it. You're so annoying."

And there's Waist-location serious injury that prevents you from wearing pants.
The only problem is that walking around with unarmored body part is asking to get gutted sooner rather than later.

Just rub some grease on it you'll be safe

I don't have the lonely tree but in theory if you already have an ageless apprentice, and you turn them into a savior via the lonely tree, do they rip their cursed mask off?

There's also the narcissism disorder from FK that keeps you from wearing head armor. You are too pretty to get cursed.

If you have someone stuck in partial Regal/partial nude you value + armor to all HLs, like Shield/shield mastery. Gives you some insurance against bad hits.

Yes.

>4/5 kings cursed with greased up bare chest

Name him randy bobandy and you're golden

/5 kings cursed with greased up bare loins

That's the humidity, not the sun. Sunlight would fade the color.

As has been mentioned, it's been in a warehouse (that is very cold and close to 0% humidity) and it's warping because your home has more humidity.

Just crush it for a while and it'll flatten

All these people painting the White Lions paws more human like, I feel I missed something when I painted mine.

Ahahahaha.
I drew Plague.
They all died.
More plague next year.

That's what I get for getting lucky.

At least you got to keep your resources.

That is why you always have a back up team. You could have sacrificed those for the Plague, too.

Yeah, I had one hide left and through the butcher got my hands on five broken lanterns.
Which I then all exchanged for training with the twilight knight who came to visit.
I think I'll need to take care of a lvl 2 lion next to get some more resources.

Used my endevear to push some no-names now.

Hindsight is always 20/20.

I always, always take graves.
Resources don't compare to endeavors.

Its a lore thing. Tiny first proper showdown spoiler ahead. Look at the lion showdown text, it talks about how its obsessed with other creatures skins, its paws growing more human after it rubbed them on a human.

I know that, but I never saw it that the hand takes a human fleshy colour.
Even the resource card Curious Hand is still white, so that is mostly why I also painted it white.

it's more an anatomical thing, they're structured much more like human hands than kitty paws, the color is a personal choice.
So the same color as the rest of the Lion is also a valid choice.

Does Red fists really give each survivor one strength token each at the start of every showdown?.
Seems OP.

It is more powerful than regular FA's, yes, because it's a SFA, but STR is, after MOV, easily the least important stat.

It's just a token. It's not like it's a permanent strength buff.

>the color is a personal choice.
Ye. I like the more human hands, too. Gives some variety on the otherwise mostly white Lion.

Dammit , finally broke out the armor kits and it is just hard choosing what I want to actually use , all seems good but can only choose so much

>playing the game with my cousins
>name the survivors after our family members because it makes it more fun and it's easier to remember them that way
>some survivors die off in LY3 and the population diPS
>need to initiate intimacy to restore population
>mfw I realize that our naming conventions for survivors is about to make things weird.

Just sell 'em and use the money to buy 1/5 of an Amazon share.

Nah , I'm not a cardboard standee fag
