Why are so many settings treating elves as just humans with pointed ears? Something that lived for 300 years will have a mind completely alien to a human. Sometimes I think elves shouldn't be playable.

You can't even blame this on Tolkien since his elves lived in clear separation from humans.

Why don't you post your manly elves instead?

Started with early RPGs and war games, in which people wanted to be able to play the elegant, beautiful, perfect creatures that elves are shown as being. Over the decades, this turned into them being more humanized for the purpose of being easier to roleplay as.

Having a generic fantasy setting where you can't play as what's been established as one of the premier generic fantasy races is the death knell for that setting. At the very least, there needs to be another race that occupies the same space as elves (elegant, beautiful, regal elder race that tends to be arrogant and aloof).

Also, people keep depicting elves like your image does, as incredibly hot humans where the only elvish thing about them is an exotic eye color and pointy ears. That's not an elf, that's just fap bait.

Yeah sure, you didn't find any other pic to go for your topic. Like there aren't a million elf pics out there.

But this surely will go for at least another 200 posts anyway.

because OP humans and geek humans don't see the forest only the tree..and that is why every stupid nerd in his faggotry and fail has fantasy racism hates elves because they think they are superior well in fact every race in every fantasy settting thinks that is superior..and that is why elf woman rape exists because it's supposed to be the ultimate female example and nerds want to be the alphas of alphas..well in fact elven people should treat humans as 12 year old virgins with apism :P...

They can still be played well - just by players who know the limitations. Legolas in a party people think movie legolas, being chipper and handsome and a bro. The book depictions of elves were more alien, unknowable and frankly weirdos.

Having a member of your party who is ancient but roused into action can be effective (especially so the DM can speak through them), but people do often just make them lazy or weirdly humanised.

Stat systems inherently make this worse - an Human wizard who has studied magic their whole vs. a 600 year old elf wizard should be no contest, but D&D makes them quite similar. Also D&D says elves are treated as teenagers until they're like 120, which is similarly stupid.

i like you sir

Yeah, it's just as bad as taking a random Earth warrior culture and turning them into orcs or whatever.

I guesa it makes a better bait that pic related.

This user gets it.
