I'm trying to make some custom class names for my players to progress through as they level. So far I have Gunner -> Ranger -> Sharpshooter. But I need one more name after that for the final upgrade of the Gunner class.
Can anyone suggest a name that is (preferably) gender-neutral and deals with more than just firearms (such as grenades, rockets, artillery). Any input is helpful as I'm also not sure if I have the class ranks in the correct order.
Gunner Class Names?

Is "marksman" too gendered for you? I guess "sniper" and "gunslinger" are too narrow. Are "crack shot" and "deadeye" too informal? Is "gunman" too generic?
Rooter Tooter Point 'n Shooter!
Yeah a bit, I'm not totally against just using Marksman interchangeably with Markswoman but I'd prefer something a little different.
Operator
Grenadier? Tirador? Hellfire?
As for the others, I was hoping for a name that could hint towards the class now combining guns with explosives/artillery.
Gundam
Gunner level 4.
Man can be a gender neutral term in many context user
That's on the right track.
Grenadier does incorporate explosives but it seems a lil too narrow, hellfire wouldn't really work with the setting very well, could you tell me about Tirador all I'm finding is that it's Spanish for shooter.
You're speaking my language!
Sharpshooter?
Already in the OP
Perhaps, but I was hoping for something a little different. I'm not trying to be frustrating, sorry.
Basically it's that, but a) exotic sounding and b) not super obviously gendered.
What's the setting?
Ellen Ripley. For when the pacifist has fucking had it with this shit.
> grenadier (from French, derived from the word grenade[1]) was originally a specialized soldier, first established as a distinct role in the mid-to-late 17th century, for the throwing of grenades and sometimes assault operations. At that time grenadiers were chosen from the strongest and largest soldiers. By the 18th century, dedicated grenade throwing of this sort was no longer relevant, but grenadiers were still chosen for being the most physically powerful soldiers and would lead assaults in the field of battle.
Seems like a pretty good pick honestly
Frontliner? Specialist?
Operator? Demolisher?
Devastator? Deadeye?
Soldier? Quickdraw?
Arsenal? Commando?

>A Freischütz ("freeshooter"),[1] in German folklore, is a marksman who, by a contract with the devil, has obtained a certain number of bullets destined to hit without fail whatever object he wishes.
Tanegashima or Huolong-jin might work for a weeby setting.
Shift them all into German
Kanonier>Freischütz>Scharfschütze
Somewhere between high and low fantasy, main idea is that the high fantasy comes from all the monsters and magic but the low fantasy is from ingenuity and inventions.
Crackshot?
Desperado?
Hmm, I never knew Grenadier had that much too it. I'll definitely consider that.
>Freischütz-mind
>Heavy Barrel
>Iron Heart
>Valkyrie
>Storm Trooper
>Blitzer
Not OP but that sounds like a branching tree from Gunner, specialising more in gritty pistol based fighting, rather than the Ranger -> Sharpshooter path relying more on positioning and tactics.
Stormtrooper
That's pretty interesting and could tie into my setting somewhat.
Yeah, the basic idea is that each rank increase the range of effectiveness and overall destruction of the Gunner, as well as the weapons they are trained in.
Underrated.
Stormtrooper might have worked, but I'm aiming for more of a long ranged sort of class with this rather than a frontliner.
What is the setting? What kinds of firearms and general tactics are we looking at being used
Not quite modern... probably between 1900-1920 in terms of technology, but also with a splash of high magic.
Grenadier
X-COM Rookie.
So basically bolt action rifles, team operated machine guns, and some experimental submachine guns?
Hold up, now you're contradicting yourself, you have to be basically within a few dozen meters to use grenades to any effect.
Although a little generic, and being used to describe other things, infantry might work.
>Shock Trooper
>Lancer
>Dragoon
>War Machine
They are able to use grenades but it's more focused on the battlefield control aspect. They whittle down with mobile artillery (magic) and can hold their own reasonably well if the enemy gets too close. At it's core though they're not supposed to get too close to enemies as they are fragile.
Commander
Shocktrooper is a little too close-ranged/assault for my taste. Though Lancer is ambiguous enough that I might be able to fluff it.
So far, it's a toss up between Freeshooter, Dragoon, or Lancer.
>Lineman
>Skirmisher
>Guerrilla
>Hawker
>Blastcore
>Magus
>Crossfire
>Fusilier
>Soldat
>Tempest
>Fury
>Vanguard
>Vector
source on these? And... are they all the same girl (just the latter being an 'earlier stage'? I mean, blonde, blue eyed, firearm user, little bobble companion, vaguely oriental motif of clothing/armor)
Use iqdb
oh, thanks.
Also answers my next question of if there's lewds.
Nooseuser and yes, you should multiclass into it OP
Masterblaster

>Musketeer
>Rumbler
>Bounty Hunter
>Soldier
>Powder Keg

Bombardier.
It's an actual military rank (equivalent to corporal) that is senior to a Gunner.
>that image
Are you a damn fool
>Trigger Happy
>Ready Revolver
>Gunslinger
>Gunner
>Sniper
>Hitman
>Bullseye
>Desperado
>Yeah a bit, I'm not totally against just using Marksman interchangeably with Markswoman but I'd prefer something a little different.
Maybe it has something to do with the fact that the "man" part of "marksman" is not pronounced like "man" but rather like "min" (and that "markswoman" is all kinds of awkward), but I'd apply "marksman" to a woman as well as a man.
>Slayer
>Reaper
>Terminator
>Contractor
>Marine
>Soldier
Bombardier
Regulator.
Fusilier?
Spec-ops?
Deniable asset?
>pistoleer
>canoneer
>scout
>shooter
>quick shot
>breacher
>dragoon
>gun saint
>disciple of gunpowder
>strelok
>fussilier
It is unlikely that there would be a specific special name for each grade if there were a bunch of grades.
Likely instead you would have an entry rank, followed by name 'first class' 'second class' 'third class', followed by a top score rank.
So it might be something like
Marksman
Grenadier First Class
Grenadier Second Class
Grenadier Third Class
Gunner
Unless I am missing something, I would not use 'Ranger'. That has a traditional commando or patrol meaning to it.
Marksman should be seen as gender neutral. Females are 'marksman'. The term 'markswoman' is not used.
