In my setting I actually do have a loose confederation of city states that were once kangs and sheit with advanced magitech, however due to shifting climates their country became a giant sand desert- some believe it's a curse from angry gods, or a foreign conspiracy, when in truth it's climate change due to a massive magic anomaly reshaping a faraway region. Regardless the once powerful nation has reverted, mainly by necessity, to a bunch of small underground cities reliant on undead skellington labor, the Create Water spell, and scavenging the now buried under sand cities they once held for raw material and bodies to raise into servants.
The main reason these city-states stick together being a sense of patriotism for their past glory, with most of them having an end goal of restoring their glory by any means- it's not uncommon for strange foreigners to be found traveling far and wide for artifacts or research that can help bring glory (and, more importantly, resources) to their homes- the most important ones being things that, while certainly rare to commoners in not!Europe, aren't as critical but are practically priceless to a desert nation, such as a Decanter of Endless Water.

In truth I simply needed a reason for a desert society to NOT be nomadic when living in the middle of an Erg is otherwise fucking retarded, so a people not wanting to leave their once-noble homes came to mind.

I forgot to mention that there's this thing in the show called Philosophical Armaments which are formed from how much something is believed to be true (For example, a villain from the third season has an ability that makes it impossible for her to lose if the opponent is using a sword (Which is kind of a big deal because one of the MCs identifies as a sword). After some character development she instead claims she's a wing which allows her to defeat the bad guy's Sword Breaker ability. Sounds stupid, I know, it makes a bit more sense watching it.

Anyways, in the 4th season it's revealed that Germany acquired Gungnir during WW2 and some documents they had that revealed that Gungnir was the same lance that Longinus used to check that Jesus was dead. Being associated with the death of Jesus Christ, the idea that the lance/Gungnir was able to deal lethal blows to divine beings developed over the span of ~2000 years.

What that translates to is that the main character can punch divine beings so hard she punches all instances of that divine being across all parallel universes before it can replace itself with a version of it from one of those universes (Think something along the lines of Dirty Deeds Done Dirt Cheap).
