>Common arcane magic spells(Charm, Geas, Command, Dominate) can make a PC go against their nature, ie by attacking their friends >If you suggest to DnD players that a cute bar wench or veteran courtier should be able to steer a PC with social skills they go "muh free will"
Why is this?
Brayden Bell
A cute bar winch ain't magic
Nathaniel Wood
Taking away control of a player's character is a serious no-no. An alternate way to deal with charmed/seduced PCs is to give them a hefty penalty to act against the charm, or a reward for giving into it.
Parker Carter
Sez you. Bar wenches ARE magic...top to bottom, mmm-mmm.
Angel Lewis
Sorry lady I'm gay
Caleb Nelson
Those spells specifically disable the free will or the ability to act upon ones will. Use of normal speech leaves the free will intact.
You can argue if a player should be in control in those situation, and it is mostly a matter of gaming style and philosophy but purely from a in fiction standpoint you described two distinct circumstances. So it is logical to have potentially differing rulings.
Kayden Morales
We've got burly barmen and page boys if that's your preference.
Bentley Barnes
So is spaghetti until it gets wet.
Luis Gonzalez
Because adventurers are strange alien puppets who are controlled by otherworldly beings with nonsensical personalities.
Luis Butler
I think you have that backwards
Gavin Russell
They can only convince me if they can beat me in naked oil wrestling
Andrew James
Because you as the DM are just some average-looking dude and not a cute bar wench, so it goes against the players' instinctive sense of what their character would do.
Evan Sanders
are you suggesting OP bring in cute girls to play the barmaid NPCs whenever the game requires accurate flirting to take place
Xavier Jones
>ywn hire strippers to make your players immerse themselves more in the world >ywn invite your professional Domina on a game that takes place in the Underdark
Dylan Cooper
You answered it yourself. The first is magical, the second is not. Whether or not somebody is seduced is equally about the recipant's interest.
Jaxson Lopez
Ah, you should have said you were Greek.
Mason Clark
I'm suggesting OP become the cute girl to play the barmaid NPC
Chase Ramirez
>"Hey, Mark, I don't think it's right that Wendy and I got inadequate loot in the last game" >"I'm wondering if something couldn't be arranged to change your mind" >you find yourself sucking Mark's cock as Wendy helps you by fingering his perineum and steering your head a little bit >you swallow thick ropes of cum and realize they could use a new Bag of Holding
Zachary Morgan
also just because I had too much of a fujoboner while writing this I neglected to explain that both you and the player are named Mark, just a funny coincidence
Bentley Lewis
Wasn't there a RPG that applied bonii if you acted in character? Like, you know it will end bad, but the meta bonus is too good to pass, and the meta penalty for not following is bad, but not forces you to follow the baby GM scripted scene.
Gavin Garcia
I was very confused for a moment there.
Elijah Young
since this thread is fucking shit anyway, do you need a bi MMF Veeky Forums vignette?
Ryan Diaz
Except everything you are saying is completely wrong.
Command cannot be used to order someone to attack their friends. The spell specifically lists what it can do and it is up to the GM to give what is allowed.
Charm and Suggestion are worded in such a way that the target can only follow REASONABLE actions and that you are being told to do by someone you consider a friend. If your friend told you to start murdering townspeople when you're a neutral good person or kill the king when you're a lawful good Paladin, it doesn't fly.
Geas and Dominate are worded with the effects of charm in mind. It is up to the GM/DM at this point on how they work. And those spells are obtainable at level 9 which is hardly a "common" spell. If you're playing a game where a common wizard can Geas people you are playing in a super high magic setting where your GM should be giving countermeasures against such things. Your local fucking bar wench or a courtier should not be able to use these spells.
Julian Gonzalez
Send me a message.
Jordan Mitchell
Came here to say that same thing Well done friendo
Easton Hughes
There is nothing gay about two muscled, oiled up men writhing around, trying to get the other from behind.
Tyler Green
So is wet until it gets spaghetti
Mason Hall
>Nah, I'm good, my character would stay in the Underdark.
Cameron Rogers
sent ;)
William Hall
Magic ain't got to explain shit.
Daniel Garcia
>the swirly contacts fell out
Christian Wood
...
Oliver Turner
>Charm and Suggestion are worded in such a way that the target can only follow REASONABLE actions Yeah no fuck off. Clearly the writers ( and thus RAW) definition of reasonable is different than yours shitty unfun limited one that you can easily just diplomance rather than wasting a spell known on. Because the example given is "give a horse to the first beggar you see". Explain to me how that is reasonable?
Aiden Allen
Same way that giving your house to a Muslim migrant is considered reasonable in Western Europe.
Brandon Gutierrez
Do not play with D&Drones. Do not play D&D or derivatives.
Tyler Carter
Okay
Jacob Morgan
>one that you can easily just diplomance how is that bad? why should a spell perform better than a specialist
Eli Miller
Unless you pregen the character for the player they should be free to choose what does and doesn't strike their fancy and how far their character would take flirtation. Seduction can be mechanically implemented (as it is in WoD) but doing so requires at least some participation by the PC i.e. continuing to be there or listening to the person. Magic is just that magic. It hijacks your brain and forces you to comply no consent or participation in the scene other then probably sight/in range.
