/HHG/ - Horus Heresy General

I can't decide how to build my Thousand Sons. I have the following already set:
Praetor in tartaros armour
Plastic Ahriman (not sure if I'll actually use him)
15-man assault squad (could use advice for their kit)
3 rhinos
1 sicaran
2 Castellax-Arcaea
1 TS librarian dread
2 apothecaries

And here's what I'm not sure about:
60-80 power armoured marines (depends on whether or not I use mkIII/V models).
I'm not sure if I should go for a swarm of veterans, field some large tactical squads, or what. I like the idea of flexibility, so veterans, I guess?

Also, what is a good way to kit sekmet terminators?
I have 2 boxes of 40k Scarab Occult terminators to mix with FW and Prospero tartaros bits. I'll be getting some combi-weapons for magnetic weapon-swapping, but what is a good ratio of power weapons to power/chainfists?
Should I make one big 10 man squad, or two 5 man squads?

Also also, should I move on to a land raider or a flyer (and which one) for my next buy?

Is that freehand or somekind of 3d printed thing?

It's a 3d printed symbol from Pop Goes the Monkey on Shapeways, 60 for $17 USD.
It's thicker than the picture looks, and I'm honestly not sure how to go about painting it. Getting in the recess areas is going to be very difficult, but if I get it right I think it will be worth it.
It's a Rubric Marine shoulder pad, by the way. I'm using Rubric shoulder pads, Calth arms and legs, and a mix of TS heads/shoulders from FW and regular Calth bits for the rest. That's actually one reason I'm leaning towards using them as veterans; I think they may end up looking too fancy for tactical squad grunts.

I have no idea what I'll do with the other shoulder pad. Might end up freehanding some arcane looking bullshit.

Or I might use a Red Scorpions symbol I found on Shapeways. Or would that class with the scarab?
Both are fairly Egyptian.

Question for anyone with access to the Imperialis Militia / Warp Cults army list.

According to the 1d4chan page, the Survivors of the Dark Age Provenance of War allows Grenadier squads to take a Land Raider Proteus as a transport.
However, from what I understand, the Proteus pattern LR only has a transport capacity of 8, and the minimum squad size of Grenadiers is 10.

What does the actual army list say?
Is this another FW typo/screwup?

Okay, so I was wrong. They do only get access to the Proteus, but the Proteus only has a capacity of 8 if it takes an augury web. So there's no issue.

Would anybody mind if I used rubrics as veterans? I absolutely love the models but would there be any problems with making them work?

I'd have no problem with it as long as you trimmed the Tzeentch and other chaos iconography off of it. The Rubrics and Scarab Occult actually look really nice in their 30k scheme.

I'm using the shoulder pads and a few of the torsos for my TSons. Full regalia works for artificer armour, I think, but the bolters and much of the iconography (Tzeentch) is a bit too much for 30k imho.

Speaking of Scarab Occult, what is a good way to kit them?

I'd like to mix in a few power fists or chainfists, but I'm not sure what ratio to use.

I plan to play mostly post-Propero, so would it still be a problem? I know they didn't really have rubrics until later, but they all knew about Tzeentch and Chaos by that point, right? My friend (the main person I'm going to be playing with) also plans to play mid-heresy. The only thing i'm really having trouble with is what to do with the sorcerer. Are there any rules about having a model like that? I'm pretty new to 30k, so you guys probably know way more than I do.

I really like quad mortars because I love artillery and really love Veterans. Is there any way to run them both without being cheesy?

Quad mortals can spam s8 blasts (which get some extra rule I can't remember). That's nasty, no matter who you are.
And veterans get extra special rules, such as sniper, than can be really nasty when used with certain legion tactics.

But if you're going to play 30k, invest in what you want. 30k is your dudes to the extreme, a labour of love, other cliche'. It's too big an investment to not be picky.
If you don't go with what you like, I'm not sure why'd you bother.

Quad mortars are ok. But with phosphex shells they are pretty nasty, so if you don't take that you should be ok.

Veterans are not really OP, but can be if used well.

TSons didn't really accept Tzeentch for a while, there were a few guys here and there but if you want to play a HH era TS force, even if it's post-Propero, you're better off leaving Tzeentch and Chaos alone.

Is there absolutely, 100% no way for you to edit pdfs or convert it to a more usable format?

I'm looking for a pdf editor but I'm not having much luck unfortunately and if I convert the pdf to a document format I can't remove/edit the text that already exists on the pdf. All I've found is sketchy, paywall-locked "pro-version" software. Any tips for moving forward? Google images isn't helpful for blank templates either unfortunately.
