Top tips for new warbands edition.

Previous Thread: →

For all your questions on Dark Heresy (1st and 2nd Editions), Rogue Trader, Deathwatch, Black Crusade, and Only War.
Not the wargame, not Chapter Master, not Space Hulk. Inquisitor is okay, but not many people know about it.

Ulisses-Spiel, very well known in Germany. It's set post Gathering Storm, uses a Shadowrun-esque D6 dice pool, and is a unified line with Marines, Humans, and Xenos all playable in the core book.

Book Repositories (If you're planning to download any Rogue Trader materials, read the .txt file in the RT directory)

There is a new Homebrew Megafolder option in above MEGA directory containing several things.

40K RPG tools, a site that contains stats or references for almost all weapons, armor and NPCs/adversaries. Not updated past DH2 core.
40krpgtools.com/

40k RPG Combined Armory (v6.48.161023), containing every piece of gear in all five lines. Now includes all DH2e books.

Lasgun masterrace, newer ever need any other weapons in OW. You get to pimp it, you get mastery traits, you get to a GODDAMN SEXUAL TYRANNOSAURUS!

Limpwristed faggots use bolters.

I've never DM'd a game before, have no prep, but had the sudden idea to start a dark heresy campaign with some friends tomorrow.

how long will it take us to make characters?

are there any modules I can take them through so I get a feel for Dark Heresy (or if not Dark Heresy, which one do you suggest)?

thanks

p.s.
other guy mentioned Only War, thats the Imperial Guard one yeah? I eventually want to do that, but I want to do it justice with an actual campaign I make. If there's a premade module or someone has some shit they'd like to share, I'd appreciate it and totally do Only war

You can make a character in 10 minutes. Its quite simple really
There are few adventures you can run and the core rulebooks have one at their end.
The game is simple enough and reading the book of your chosen edition through will get you set on lore and rules.
Unless you are one of those faggots that don't read shit and jump straight into the game, thinking they will learn by playing but only making the experience bad for everyone.

Are there any good Only War campaigns out there good for ignorant ignoramuses who know nothing about the 40k lore and are fairly new to roleplaying? This is my first time GMing and the player's first time playing.

She wouldn't dirty her hands with such demeaning work, that's the job for the servants! On a serious note, I've ended up restricting a lot of my characters options based on personality, and I completely realize that's on me. I believe last session was the second time my character has had to pull a trigger in the year or so of our group playing.

Mostly I've been able to avoid combat, with diplomacy, or pulling favours from various NPC factions, that we easily outnumber whatever it is we have to go up against. My character usually just sits and waits in the car while the others go combat things. "Leading from the rear" and all that.

Sounds like she needs slapping silly.

I know that there are a few very short adventures online but i cant remember their names

What's the cheesiest Deathwatch build outside of psyker?

Techmarine.

Because of his armor tank? Also can a techamrine get basic and heavy weapons on his servo-harness?

...

Can confirm Iron Hands Techmarine is broken as hell, basic only

Not really, but I can understand that the group dynamic probably sounds off putting to others when there isn't much context or backstory given.

Suffice to say, it was intended that she would have other roles, but lack of communication with two others in the group meant the roles I had intended for her to fill, were picked up by others, and I didn't want to step on toes. So I was basically relegated to solely taking on the role of the Face, with some Logic/Inquiry/Scrutiny skills.

If I switch specialities in only war away from operator will they rip out my MIU (books says that all specialised equipment are lost with the speciality)

Yes. It will be very painful. Don't switch out unless you're sure.

>it will be very painful
But what if I'm a guy of undetermined size?

Are Ecclesiarchy priests required to be celibate?

Is there another source for pdfs? I need them on my phone, I'm not good enough with tech to get them from computer to mobile, and I don't have mega on my phone

You don't know how to do simple file transfers between devices with a usb cable? Or even having a cloud with your stuff?

Total Recall is such a useless talent

That would depend on their denomination, as long as you worship the emperor and hate xenos the Imperial Creed is pretty open to whatever

No

Good thing I'm not a tech priest lol

whats the situation with the newest gaunts ghosts book

1.aquire grenade
2.use grenade.
3.see room get painted red.
4.????
5.spend personal savings on being the premiere instant room painter in the sector.

Blood angel assult marine with auger is pretty op

Are you sure you're even qualified to use the internet?

So, two question.
1) I can't seem to find anything regarding and xp cap in DH2. Is there none? If so, then what is it?

Secondly, anyone know of rules for Volkite weaponry?

Read further. If you have cybernetics, you won't be entitled to a replacement if they get damaged.

Isnt a MIU basically a bluetooth adapter at the back of your skull? Unline an arm or an leg I have hard time thinking of a situation where the MIU gets damaged without your brains getting blown out.

It is a cortex/spinal plug thing or a wrist connector in the case of some fancier models. Might have tubes dangling out for someone to make a called shot on or to get tangled up in.

It's not important how OP your character could be, if you don't know how to play it will be wasted.

Take one of my player for example, Blood Angel Assault Marine, mosts stats are nat 44-45 but somehow he always ended up badly wounded every session because he just run straight in obvious ambush and/or fortified position. That's sad to see such a potential being wasted like this, but i hope someday i will learned.

I run a session tomorrow, so we'll see.

Does anyone have any advice for making a meele Psyker for DH2, like the temple-Calix from the inquisitor's handbook?

After discussing with the GM, we decided that my character was going to become an inquisitor, so eventually, I am like to get the Jack of all trade advantages, but I am not entirely sure where to spend most things.

The group is small, so I have to be good at a variety of things. In fact, one of the reasons my character is becoming an inquistor is for those jack of all trade talents.

What I am seeing as my primary focus is mainly, meele, Psychic powers, investigation, and interrigation.

One of my biggest decisions is, after considering motivations and story, deciding between adeptas telepathica, or exercised, and role wise, between going mystic, or Fanatic, purchasing Psyker as an elite advancement.

Maybe? It might help a little bit of people either explained to me how to do it or just hit me up with a mobile PDF like I asked. I found one but the scans left a massive black line that blurs a fifth of the page

>Total Recall is such a useless talent
In Dark Heresy it's GOAT, in other lines it can be safely ignored.

Try Crusader role and buying Psyker.

It just seems so easily replaced by cameras or notepads, it doesn't even help lore skills for some reason

>It just seems so easily replaced by cameras or notepads

It's so much better than both, because you don't have to have time to rewatch/reread everything to figure out who that guy you saw for a moment was. Hell, the amount of data an Inquisitorial cell generates on a daily basis means you would have to sit through literally months worth of pict feeds just to find a guy you are not even sure is important. With Total Recall, you just _remember_.

Looks good, though I am pondering if the overall character idea would pan out. Still, it works well.

By the way, If I recall that, if you have a characteristic aptitude from something else, and you get it again, you choose a different one. What happens if you somehow get, say, defense twice?

You pick a characteristic aptitude if you get any duplicates, even if the ones that you have duplicates of aren't characteristic aptitudes themselves.

So, if I had defense twice, I could simply take, say, intelligence or agility?

Yes.

Cool!

Still, hard choice between Astra Telepathica, and Exercised.

>hard choice between Astra Telepathica, and Exercised

I should probably mention that my character's Homeworld is Daemonworld.

Also, thanks for the giggle mate.

Telepathica is better since you start with Sanctioned which cannot normally be gotten any other way.

I still have no idea why they had to introduce that aptitude shit into 2.0. Why create a system which makes it easier to do only jack-of-all-trades builds, but makes specific builds harder to do? It's not like you couldn't do jack of all trades in 1.0. And if you want a specific character that is good at something, you're still going o use the same archetypes and "classes" as with 1.0. Feels like they've changed it just for the sake of changing it.

There any rule for exercising a demon that has possessed you? I think my GM wants one of us to get possessed, and then to exercise it ourselves.

We were talking about lore and the whole Illuminati actually being a thing in 40k. One of us didn't believe, so we showed him some stuff, and I learned that if you exercise one yourself, the Illuminati might let you join them.
Said GM generally has a habit of bringing things up in conversation, and seeing how we react to it, to see if we might want it in our campaign.

I realized this 2 years ago when I noticed 5 somewhat specific things we had talked about a month prior to the game beginning all showed up in game, in ways in which we talked about it. One was a player talking about how the exodites were the only group of Eldar they liked lore wise, after talking about the Eldar in general.
Then, at one point in a RT game, we ended up working with Exodites against Dark Eldar.

Enemies Beyond.

Personally, I like it, simply because 1) I like having a character who can do different things, and 2) We have a really small group, so we kind of need to do it or else we have a massive role missing in the party.

Thanks mate!
Not sure how I missed that.

You can still do it with DH1.0 though?

It's easier to not create lists of ranks and paths with varied xp pricing.

The Remuz archive has 2 premades that someone uploaded, Final Hour and Final Testament.

*Eleventh Hour, my bad, brain isn't cooperating right now.

When does it ever?

Why change it at all then? 1.0 had all the lists and specs with xp prices. They could've just tweaked some thing to accomodate for new talents/skills.

... Because it's *easier*, right? Toooo. Not. Have. Those. Lists.

Has anyone tried to play a game of Rogue Trader with all Orks? Does something like that work? Members of my group have entertained the idea, but we aren't sure of it. We already have issues with group cohesion.

You make a valid point.

>Deffwotch

God damn that was a good read:
Enjoy 1d4chan.org/wiki/Deffwotch

So, figured I would ask again. Is there an xp cap? Would appreciate it.

No.

Ghastly

No. But you kinda have to go into ascension in Dark Heresy when you hit 13k exp. Kinda. But even then, that's just you continuing your character.

I will become the king of That Guys. I will be the most creative, most sociable, most original, best roleplaying member of the party, all the way up to ascension. Then the gloves come off.

LOL I EXTERMINATUS THE PLANET xD

Are you ok, user? Inquisitors that exterminatus random planets tend to not live too long. Most get a bad case of ork snipers.

Really hate when my stats are not divisible by 5.

>Does something like that work?
youtube.com/watch?v=_XyOKPLTV1M

How long can you go before clocking someone with a book across the jaw, just to make it stop?

I'm new to 40k and I want to build an eldar as my first army. What are the best units for the psychic and range combat?

Apparently an entire campaign

>stat ends in 4

Then congratulations! All ork trader campaign is for you.

No I'm saying it has literally happened before. You just need the perfect group and the stars to align.

Cool dudes use volkite.

Hey friendos,

I ordered a box of UCM ships from Dropfleet Commander to use in my RT games, and now I kinda want to go further and get a star field mat and put cool debris and asteroid and space station terrain on it.

I found a couple small shops that make stuff like that but I was wondering if anyone here knows of cool sources for those kinds of models.

Hey there. Sorry, but this is the 40k rpg thread. Look a bit more in the catalogue, and you should find the 40k general.

Cheers!

Just wondering, there rules for Volkite weapons in DH2?

Actually, I usually have diagnosed OCD with regards to numbers being even. Especially 4. just hate the fact that since you can upgrade stats in increments of 5, up to + 25, you might need to spend to ranks of stat increase, just to get something that you could have gotten one if you weren't short by 1 or 2 points.

Only in his homebrew. Found in the OP. I know Volkite weapons show up in GBaAL and Mars Needs Women.

It gives you an excuse to always ask the GM about the convoluted details of the plot you've forgotten in the time that passed since last session

It's vital for Dark Heresy

Yeah, not all talents are equal.

What the absolute fuck is that weapon the inquisitor is carrying? A... drum-fed crossbow bolter? If I didn't know any better, I'd say it was ork tek.

Condemnor bolter, it's a combi weapon that shoots antipsyker stakes

>the amount of people not knowing what a Condemnor boltgun is
Greyfax has such an ability to draw out newfags.

There's rules for it in DH2 Enemies Within

Do you even Dark Heresy, heretic?

Again, combat is more or less out of the question given personality. Although taking up a "dueling" stance with a pistol is something she's done on a couple occasions.

The original statement revolved around having six Fate Points with nothing really to spend them on. Depending on play speed, I see this campaign lasting maybe five or six more sessions, before we more or less retire our characters to ride off into the sunset.

if the other characters survive my end game assassination attempts that is

You know
Now that I've read The Uplifting Primer I can say its surprisingly useful book

Right?! I loved it when I stumbled across a pdf of it. I hope GW puts out stuff like that from time to time again.

>having six Fate Points
stupid

I want to make my players afraid. I want to make them know fear as a space marine. I want them to make them feel like they have to work as a unit or the dark gods and the xenos will shit thunder and fury upon them. Without just big number monsters, how do I teach the Deathwatch to feel fear?

Threats they can't just roll away

Or you could google it you fucking boomer.
REEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE

Does anyone have some tips for finding a decent Rogue Trader group to play with?

What part of And They Shall Know No Fear do you not understand?

I am aware.

Over the course of two years I was able to acquire 8
