What are the relationships between your humans and beastfolk like? What about the beastfolk and other races? Is the history towards them mostly amicable or belligerent?

All beastfolk are descendants of humanoids shagging animals during the demon-haunted Nightmare Age, when horrors untold were unleashed on mankind and insanity was the norm. But that was long ago, and most histories fail to record the truth, so beastfolk are typically treated as monsters who compete with humans for territory. The most common "relationship" between people and beastfolk is at the edge of a sword

Look, sometimes a fish is born with a human face or a goose with human vocal cords. It's just a result of the fact that there are no more "real" animals. If it's smart enough to know what's going on you should probably take it in, but if it isn't then things like this are better off buried and forgotten. Don't worry about too much

This is my kinda thread

It's very comfy.

You cosplay waifuist ruined monstergirls. The emphasis should always have been on "monster," on hot beings which were just as likely to tear out your throat as to fuck you, and the weirdboners it spawned. Now you can't find anything which doesn't subscribe to Kenkou Cross' "if it's even slightly disquieting I'll retcon it for you" approach. Fucking normalfags and casuals always have to ruin everything for the rest of us.

No

I mean, it could happen. I don't know if cannon touches on interspecies relationships though.

source?

My setting is mostly made of beastfolk, but all species are characterized by virilant xenophobia when it comes to sexuality. Every nation is one step away from making or breaking alliances, every citizen teeters on the edge of joining a xenocideal movement and slaughtering their former friends, and yet multispecies organizations still flourish, but interspecies love is very taboo. Most species have monolithic cultures, having absorbed or stomped out their subraces, but humanity stands out as a very different sort of species.

Humans have a myriad of cultures in this setting, but there are two main groups: Colonials and Planetsiders. Colonials are the minority in human space. They generally live on the borders of the nation, or in space stations in the core regions. The Colonials refuse to forget the contact wars, refuse to forget that Earth is still a divided planet, and match the beastfolk in terms of rejecting interspecies relationships. The Planetsiders make up the bulk of the human population. They are open to relations with the beastfolk and in return get nasty looks, harsh rejections, slaps to the face, and very occasionally a yes from a particularly curious or desperate creature.

Considering my beast folk are barely distinguishable from actual dogs (well aside from the 4 ears, magic and ability to poorly imitate human speech), they get along extremely well with their human "uplifters". Except for the staunchly traditional ones. Humans live on their concept of heaven, and who could have guess that would piss off the religious types something fierce?

I get that this thread is wink wink nudge nudge can you fuck it?
The answer to that is no. That'd be beastiality.
I mean the things are like 30 lbs tops, so it be a pretty terrible kind of beastiality at that.
The very idea clashes heavily with the victorian aesthetic of the setting pretty hard.

Do the people dogs fuck normal dogs?
Also no.
That'd be like a human fucking a chimp.
A relatively giant chimp most of the time.
Which shocker, is pretty heavily frowned upon.

Humans eradicate all beastfolk like the mutants they are in my setting.

Except for Spider girls. They are pure and must be protected

Beastfolk generally find the religious practices of dwarves, elves, humans, and orcs creepy. There are beastfolk who practice druidism or ancestor worship, but their language uses the same word for "god" and "demon." They're terrified of the Mother of Monsters and her clerics' ability to curse infants in the womb with birth defects, but they react only slightly better to the Unblemished, and he mostly empowers his clerics to heal wounds and bless crops. It's not safe to be a priest in their territory.

Beastfolk give humans some respect, you know, because they're a minority that came out from underground. (They also aren't as strong as the Beastfolk, so that's always nice-ish.)

I'm on to you drow sleeper cells.

Elite waifu > brute waifu.

Does /d/ just come to Veeky Forums to pick brains for ERP and erotic-Lit?

My personal favorite beastfolk origin is that they originally came from humanity. They came into existence when a nature-loving hermit literally fucked the world.

Kind-of? I run a normal game and a lewd game, Veeky Forums being /d/-lite is like a two birds one stone deal for me.

Where would one find a Lewd game to join? Asking for a friend.

>weebshit

The usual places. I recruited two Veeky Forums anons from a gamefinder thread here a few months ago. One dropped for scheduling but the other's been having fun, near as he tells me.

Mononoke Sharing.

Outside of the civilized races that can live in relative cosmopolitan harmony the most advanced beast-like race are the Naga, whose phenotype caste-based theocracy trades heavily in humanoid slaves. The only reason the other races haven't wiped them out is the fact that their country is not!Florida so all the diseases, wetlands, heat, and horrifyingly deadly fauna make marching an army through with a supply train without huge attrition basically impossible.

I run by saturday morning cartoon rules, so beastmen of a single species range from street shark to hot anime girl with ear accessory. They may have overbearing animal behavior if their character is not explored in other ways. Relations are OK, as nations are not along racial lines.

Beastfolk were once humans who gave themselves over to a beast god who unfortunately went from playful satyr to full demon lord and his followers were corrupted in turn. While the beast god was eventually slain and his followers stopped raiding and pillaging they were considered tainted and enslaved for a few centuries before they united and formed their own kingdom to strong-arm the surrounding nations into banning slavery, although hostility remains on both sides. Right now tensions have been eased somewhat after their kingdom joined a coalition of nations in order to fend off an invasion from another continent but they're still considered inferior to true humans and 'indentured servitude' is practiced in some of the older nations. I typically depict the ones from the kingdom as Romanized Gaels while elsewhere they've usually assimilated into the local culture.

The invading nation, on the other hand, is basically not!Egypt and the gods turn their chosen champions into beastial warriors, although they're considered human and breed true with no ill-effects.

Good, your unhappiness makes me enjoy it that much more. Get fucked, fag.

uneasy
hostility in empire
covert allies in kingdoms, hamlets and so on

god made mankind (humans, dwarves, elves, halflings, ogres).
satan made beastkind (skaven, pigorcs, lizardwizards, goatmen, various minotaur, centaur, harpies and whatever)

god and satan fucked off; mankind got a bit evil and beastmen got a bit good. now it's all gray

Depends on the sort of beastfolk. Generally speaking though, different races look down on each other, though the effect is more pronounced if they aren't fellow citizens of X empire.

On the whole though, Lizardfolk are the most easily enslaved, since they're the most primitive and would be the furthest from home in most more civilized areas. Generally though, there aren't many Lizardfolk slaves yet, since the new world is only just getting colonized. Presumably, once triangle trade is established, there'll be a mass "migration" of Lizardfolk to the new world.

Catfolk have some more measure of civilization - they have the space and water to grow rice, which they nicked from some Orcs a short while ago. They also stole some metalcrafting methods, and as such tend to be the most advanced species on Dahkhest. It hasn't been around long enough to really catch on among the lizardfolk though, so the lizards don't have more than tribalism and don't often farm.

Gnolls are fairly rare, and tend to stay in their heavily fortified mountain nation. When they do interact with other races, they're snooty and violent, easily angered. They're one of few civilizations that accept necromancy, which probably is why they're so snooty: They live effectively locked in an industrial stasis using the corpses of their dead. Also, if they like you, they try to spray you with their scent, so they don't make a lot of friends. They're really a big group of bitter assholes.

Kobolds look like small lizardfolk, live in "Ghettos" underground, and have strong familial connections. As such, people distrust kobolds immensely, and they're often driven out of their homes and forced to migrate, only further driving them into xenophobia. They tend to make great wizards though, so there's often a cycle where the local lord wavers between allowing kobolds in for their education, and kicking them out for percieved curses.
[Cont.]

They fuck a lot.

Harpies come in a wide variety of types that tend to vary wildly:

Blue Harpies are almost universally dumb, chipper, and amazing singers. They're almost like pets, and quickly submit to what in any other race would be considered slavery. Blues tend to be derided by other harpies for this, but they don't usually care - like dogs, they feel strong loyalties to the people they consider their flock, and easily take to having Alphas. Blues have been used as messengers since writing was invented (as remembering the message proved to be too advanced for them), but are otherwise mostly useful for companions; Blues have been recorded slamming into windows, getting stuck in trees, and in one case spending so long looking at the sky mid-flight that she crashed into the ground and died. As such, Blues have the shortest average lifespan of any harpy.

Crow Harpies are racuous, social, and the most clever harpy. They do NOT take well to training, and more often than not outsmart the trainer. On the flip side, they're also clever, and so can be valuable allies if their demands are met. However, Crow Harpies can hold grudges for their whole lifespans, and never forget a face. They also have a lot of friends, with sharp, pointy talons, who like to pick up unassuming scholars who have offended them by accident and deposit them in trees that are too tall to climb out of. They like to follow around giants and eat the crushed material under their feet.

Redbird Harpies are loners, and only ever meet to mate. Redbirds, like Crow Harpies, never really take to training the way Blues do. On the other hand, Redbirds are calm and serene creatures. It's said it's impossible to offend a Redbird; that's false, but there's a grain of truth to it. Redbirds are vain, and tend to like anyone who compliments them; and on the flipside, hate anyone who is percieved to have slighted them. They're also the best flier out of all harpies, reaching airspeeds of over 150 Kmph.

After a series of wars between Gods and early Man (including the creation of Dragons) one God decided to make a new race of monsters to harry early men until Gods could get their second wind.

This created mammalian beast men (lizard folk being descendants of dragons and early man, insectoids coming later) since the God was working alone and only had the power to mess with what was already there (early man and animals). The God was split into the many mothers, a patron god to each beast race. Most beast folk religion is based on the veneration of their god-mother, and some aspect of astrology (the moon for wolves, sun for cats etc.). This grants them the power to shapeshift into more bestial form (so wolf-folk are all essentially werewolves).

However while early Man was weak they withstood attacks by beastfolks and became strong despite them. The Many Mother’s actually caring for their charges sought peace and built great empires together with Early Man. The Gods later wrecked these though.

Today the Beastfolk are seen either as wild savages or seen only fit to be servants of slaves.

A certain -list.

Depends pretty much on the race.

Haffuns: The bunnyfolk are pretty much the biggest name in the Republic as far as demihumans go. Their holdings in the Grassy Ocean are the breadbasket of the Republic, and they're dependent on humanity's warmages and battle-constructs to protect them against hobgoblin moto-marauders and tanks.

Ratfolk: The fact their main colony is in the middle of the Sea of Destruction puts a certain damper on getting together. Still, they're united as strong allies against the Hobgoblins, so they get on well enough.

Hutaakans: The jackalfolk's religion creeps humanity out, but the jackals would rather trade than fight... usually. Sometimes, they go to war instead. It's a setting inspired by Warmachine, after all.

Gnolls: Officially, the same as their hutaakan masters. In reality, there are humans sympathetic to their plight as a slave-race and secretly supporting the rebellion.

Beastfolk were originally made as bioweapons - brutal, powerful soldiers that bred quickly and bent to a strongman's authority with few qualms. They were bred by a druidic lich in an era obscured by the mists of time, although few of the myths surrounding their origin remember any details beyond an evil magic man breeding them - the stories range from a coven of hags boiling children in cauldrons to turn them into their slave soldiers to a demon king siring litters of unholy warriors with a power-hungry witch. What is known for certain is that the beastfolk outlived their master's use for them, and spread across the world.

Relations with most any independent group of beastfolk are generally sour, on account of their ill reaction to outsiders and the horrific legends surrounding their race, but those that join other societies quickly find a niche to fill - they were made to serve, and to do so efficiently, so they tend to find stable, if sometimes demeaning work quickly. They are usually kept at arm's length by society on account of their nefarious origins and animalistic appearance, but valued for their obedience to the law and conformity to their host culture.

When competent leadership is not present, beastfolk are quick to change their stripes; previously docile civilians will violently resist incompetent law enforcers, productive workers will attempt backroom deals to replace lazy or permissive foremen, and more unconventional lines of work lead to equally unconventional power grabs. Once in positions of power, beastfolk tend to be demanding, but fair taskmasters; those who pull their weight are compensated or rewarded accordingly, while those who do not are cast aside without hesitation - exceptions are often made for the temporarily sick and injured, if they have a record of productivity.

>Kenkou Cross' "if it's even slightly disquieting I'll retcon it for you" approach

...We ARE talking the same man who invented toddler-esque loli dwarves, a slime girl based on foetal harpies self-aborting out of their urge to start fucking men sooner, world-wide daughter-on-father incest, mad lolis who turn their boyfriends into mindless giant rape-spiders they ride as living sex-toy symbionts, and illithid-girls who transform men into mindless squid-like tentacle beasts they wear as living sex-toy panties, right?

>Blue Harpies
>slamming into windows
This is equal parts hilarious and horrifying.

>What are the relationships between your humans and beastfolk like?

Depends on the race, Cat/Dogfolk get along just fine with humans while others like Gnolls or Driders are more hostile.
There are also neutral races like Lizardfolk, Ratfolk or Harpys.

>What about the beastfolk and other races?

Kobolds are friendly (sort of) to most of the main PC races, but have some territorial issues with Dwarves.

>Blues have been recorded slamming into windows, getting stuck in trees,
Aww

Oh

>verdant people
These are the deer people essentially. Gifted in nature magic. Males and females have antlers, but as a recessive trait they can be born with none. They're mostly slender. Some have human faces and some have deer faces. They're very intelligent and are likened the elves among beastfolk. They aren't very common outside of eleven lands though, and if they are outside it's rarely out of wanderlust or official business. Usually it's magic related somehow. Most races treat them equally, and don't have much to say on them except that they're quiet.
>classes they excel at:

Transform (spirit of nature form, a deer), Fleeting Fauna(fade into scenery), Stampede (attack and speed buff), Lock Up (opponent cannot withdraw from a duel, lasts 10 seconds), Nature Creation (can create flora to fight opponents with, such as a wall of thorns or a cactus bludgeon).

I swear, I've seen this picture on /k/.
And recently too.

>Kitsune people
>location: Forrest area
>population: somewhat small
The Kitsune are a very secretive fox clan of beastfolk, the reside in Greenmere Forrest. They have some artic cousins to the south, but they're otherwise very rare. Kitsune are devilishly clever, criminal minds born from the start. They're capable of concocting horrible schemes quite easily and have very complex plans that they pull of with years of experience. Kitsune have the life expectancy of an elf (like the verdant people). They have a tribal form of government amongst each other, whereas the Verdant have simply a pack leader, and amongst the packs there's a Grand Stag of the Clans that bows to the nature spirits themselves but also follow the elf king. The Kitsune are independent, and most activities outside the clan are clandestine affairs with the underworld in the various prominent cities and whatnot. Thus, the Kitsune's hidden dens are extremely wealthy, even by beastfolk standards, second only to the Verdant (given their relationship with elves). Like other beastfolk, their bodies range from totally feral looking to passable as humans with ears and a tail!

/k/ likes to fuck deer.

Beastfolk have no right to exist. Period.

Post some more Deer

Go home /k/, you're drunk.

>Implying /d/ isn't just another spinoff from Veeky Forums like quest general.

Fucking furrieeeeeeesssssss

Playing Ironclaw, so everywhere.

One guy was allowed to play a human, as the "transported from another dimension" thing, so there is one human total.

It functions like... well, a somewhat middle age like setting, except there is a lot more "racism" kind of issues between the many different species. Creates a fun world with no risk of SJW spoiling anything.

/k/ has that one infamous beastality green text so that's probably why.
>neko people
Cat girls and cat boys, what do you think? While some people will see this as simply fap bait, it's necessary to include some nekos. Why? Because I went through the trouble of detailing out so many other beastfolk, I might as well. The Nekos are tribal just like Kitsune, but they have a higher tendency to travel in packs. They also have no central authority or sovereignty as a people, preferring to assimilate wherever they may be. Nekos range from totally anthropomorphized cats resembling our modern ones to a passable human with cat ears and a tail (and maybe a cat nose or whiskers too!). Nekos have a more sophisticated transformation setup, capable of a battle mode and a reconnaissance/incognito house cat mode. In lots of ways they're the nice guy version of the droll race. They have more magical ability than a Kitsune but less than a Verdant.
>classes they excel at
Barbarian, pugilist, soldier, mercenary, fighter, assassin, thief, rogue, witch and monk.
>spells:
Full Transformation (cat mode), Full Transformation Recon/Incog (house cat mode), Partial Transformation (a huge paw to swipe with, a tail to block with etc).

They're not furries, they're monstergirls and they're very monstruous

Who the fuck are you

You wanna fight

That's a dumb name and your mom dresses you funny.

...

I'm sorry, that was mean. I've just had a ruff day and I shouldn't have taken it out on you.

>Gnolls and Flinds
The hyena race. They differ from the nobel wolfkin in that these guys aren't humanoid in the face at all, and are almost strictly feral looking. The exception being a half gnoll, who would look like the opposite race but with a raggedy tail at the end resembling an old duster. Gnolls aren't particularly intelligent, nor are they terribly dumb. Their culture worships violence and cruelty, and thus rest at no end to cause harm to others. They play sick and torturous games with each other and captives. Their minds are very depraved and sadistic. They hate other races and see them as inferior due to their lack of violence. A gnoll with plenty of scratches and diseases is regarded as worthy of respect. Gnolls enjoy cannibalizing and raping each other too. Most pick up other languages pretty quickly but refuse to communicate, preferring to dominate and physically impose themselves over discussion. Gnolls are said to be totally mad and insane, but really they're just acting on the wishes of their gods. They are fiercely dogmatic, and revere whomever they choose. For this, most gnolls are totally avoided due to how unpredictable they are. They wander out in the desert, looking for travelers to fuck over. If you see Gnolls, it's best to run away as quick as you can. Getting captured is one of the most unpleasant things that could happen and you may wish to off yourself before they get a chance to rape and abuse you. They have no central hierarchy but have a pack system.
>classes they excel at:
Fighter, mercenary, soldier, pugilist, archer, thief, rogue, assassin, paladin.
>spells:
None

>Ratfolk & Kenku

They're treated like animals. Just, y'know, animals that can talk. The ratfolk are a touch less seen as vermin, but definitely second-class citizens. Kenku are annoyingly smart birds that steal shit.

Basically racism but with a greater kernel of truth

The only civilized beast race in my setting are not!Feudal Japanese house cats. They're a little shorter then waist high when standing on their hind feet, wear clothes, but otherwise look exactly like cats. I never really bothered explaining how they have normal paws but can hold things. The players just kind of accepted it. They're rare to come across. Usually only handfuls of them can be found in noble or merchant courts/halls. Anyways, the main kingdom the game takes place has been in an ongoing war of attrition with the "monster races" for 63 years when they met the first The Nekkon Empire. The War has made them very xenophobic against anything that doesn't look human enough. They're extremely distrustful of the Neko people. They're not sure whether to classify them as monsters (orcs, goblins, trolls, minotaurs, giants, etc) or humanoid (human, elf, dwarf). It doesn't help that the Nekkonese ships brought a much needed stimulant to the economy and stable supplies of food. The Elves rarely give a fair deal and the Dwarves don't really want much the kingdom has to offer. So the hummies are kind of stuck trading with a weird people that look exactly like their pets.

also good

At any given time, a particular human city or tribe is probably engaged in trade with one or more tribes of beastfolk, and going to war or at least considering it with one or more tribes of beastfolk. Occasionally they will both trade and war with the same tribe simultaneously.

Got any niggas like Zhu Bajie in your setting guys?

Everything about this is wrong.

Shut thy whore mouth

Are you new

Go fuck a bear then retard

Pure waifu material

It’s just something about multiple arms that turns me on

>Does /d/ just come to Veeky Forums to pick brains for ERP
Well, Illithid brain-eating ERP isn't exactly concept that would be unheard of...

For all you gentlemen out there

No, Veeky Forums kicked all the creative people out already.

Lizard girls are the best waifu. This is known.

Good shit.

Emphazis on shit

In the world I'm planning to run for my players, you can only play as 'fantastical' races. Tengu, naga, vargar, cyclopes, haltija, etc. basically one from every mythology. The only true 'monster' races are dragons, undead, tulpas (arcane humonculi,) and, well, humans. Monstrous beings are typically depicted as being in conflict with humans. Look at any folklore. So why not turn the tables and make humans monstrous. Make their faces always covered by helmets, make their language harsh and aggressive, give them perverse blood magic (literally drawing power from conquest,) play up our genocidal and imperialistic nature.

tl;dr: mankind are the orcs/dark-elves/insert-inherently-evil-race-here of my current campaign who will KOS any monsters/beastfolk they see. Edgy, sure, but fun.

In the region my D&D game is set in, the local humans have been pretty cool with the native lizardfolk, but then the current Baron in charge of the humans has essentially declared a race war. We're not sure yet if he's fucked in the head or just wants to expand into their swamps. Seeing as my musical warlock recently took on a qt albino lizardgirl as an apprentice and soon-to-be love interest, and the rest of the party is aware and think she's cool too, we're not best pleased about this.

That gave me a good chuckle

>tulpas (arcane humonculi)

living thoughtforms.

Creatures created through magic. Takes time and big fancy rituals. You can also play as them. They're just a wildcard for me to design cool monsters or for if a player wants to play a catgirl or some other shit that doesn't fit into the established lore. There's a bunch of rules for how a Tulpa works though.

The name itself comes from Tibetan mythology IIRC.

Did you just pull that idea from /cyoag/?

You didn't really describe a tulpa. It's like taking an alligator and calling it a rabbit

en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tulpa

No, but there's a thread on /trash/

The tulpa thing or humans? I've never even been in a cyoag thread. Tulpas were inspired from a combination of the traditional golem and back when /x/ was obsessed with that stuff. I'm also a religion nerd and read about the real-world myths behind them. The "humans are evil" is just because A. I'm an edgelord and slightly pessimistic about the human race B. in every mythology in the world there's stories about humans being at war with fantasty beings so why not show that from another perspective.

A tulpa is a creature created through thought and meditation. (Basically magic.) That's literally it. I just added rules for how they work. Besdies, do you think every modern fantasy creature is as they were originally described? You're allowed to take a concept from folklore/mythology and alter it. Not that I altered it much since a Tulpa is loosely defined.

Should've went with "thoughtform"

They're physical though, thoughtform might evoke the idea of them being illusory. In my setting they cease to be a thought once manifested. I guess I could have used 'construct' but that could be miscontrued as it being a mechanical creature. I don't know. Does it matter a lot? It's just semantics, you understand the point.

But they are illusory constructs

...

But they're not an illusion though, they're flesh and blood, just magical in nature.

They're our slightly-creepy-but-likeable sibling

This picture speaks to me

/d/ is mostly /d/ickgirls, furshit is banned there

It speaks to a lot of us.

You can't believe how excited I was for Miss Koboyashi's Dragon Maid when I saw the maid was an actual fucking dragon.
I thought 'Holy shit Japan has made the jump! This dragon is gonna either be fuckhueg and knock shit over trying to be a maid, or it'll go human-sized and still do the same'.
And then she just transforms into generic animu girl #537 with horns and a tail.
Fuck.

Hence why they have to come get their fix here

That statement disgusts me
