"The Wait for WanG" edition

Previous Thread: For all your questions on Dark Heresy (1st and 2nd Editions), Rogue Trader, Deathwatch, Black Crusade, and Only War.
Not the wargame, not Chapter Master, not Space Hulk. Inquisitor is okay, but not many people know about it.

Ulisses-Spiel, very well known in Germany. It's set post Gathering Storm, uses a Shadowrun-esque D6 dice pool, and is a unified line with Marines, Humans, and Xenos all playable in the core book.

Book Repositories (If you're planning to download any Rogue Trader materials, read the .txt file in the RT directory)

There is a new Homebrew Megafolder option in above MEGA directory containing several things.

40K RPG tools, a site that contains stats or references for almost all weapons, armor and NPCs/adversaries. Not updated past DH2 core.
40krpgtools.com/

40k RPG Combined Armory (v6.48.161023), containing every piece of gear in all five lines. Now includes all DH2e books.

At what point do you feel you need to homebrew something? A missing weapon, a desired archetype or specialization? An entire time period? What drives you to make something new?

I need some sick beats for a RT game. Pirate songs and what not. What do you guys use?

>tfw you wanna run a game but have no creatively left after your last campaign

fuck do I just run pregens now?

youtube.com/watch?v=cqFpEfpj_Ns

I finally have solved my dilemma with wanting to run an Only War game, but my players are /k/ommandos who refuse to play with the crappy FFG system.

My original idea was Twilight 2000, which is sufficiently crunchy and "realistic" for my /k/ommando players. However, I was a little stuck as to how to deal with the higher technology and psychic powers.

It turns out that 3nd ed Twilight 2000 shares the same system as Dark Conspiracy and Traveller: The New Era. Both of these games have psychic rules that are easily extrapolated, monsters and or aliens to help build rules for astartes and xenos, and higher technology. Traveller has extensive rules for designing weapons, vehicles, and starships at a variety of tech levels.

So anyone facing a similar situation and looking for a different system to try out, there's an idea for you.

3nd ed?

Make that 2nd ed. Derp

how is it crappy?
I love d100

Primary complaints being that weapon skill and ballistic skill aren't actually skills, but attributes. Also the combat system is weak with completely nonsensical damage values. Pistols doing 1d10+2 damage but rifles doing 1d10+3 and having similar penetration values, despite rifles having five to ten times the muzzle energy. We all find the skill system fairly weak as well.

>muzzle energy
lasweapons that work on magic both impart roughly the same magical energy on their target.

anyone running play by post games?

>not skills
what does that even mean?
the better your attributes are the more accurate you are

>theoretical discussion about muzzle energy of future guns
ok
the key difference is the range
anyway you can literally just add a house rule to add +3 dmg to rifles or -3 to pistols

Those stats also apply to projectle weapons. Look at the autogun versus pistols

Lets say you are a pilot. You have a pilot skill based on agility. You can raise your piloting skill and you can also raise your agility.

Ballistic Skill and Weapon Skill, despite being things that can be trained just like piloting, can only be raised as an attribute, so it can be raised less than half as much, and at much higher costs.

One could house rule that turns them into true skill based off agility and strength, but if you have to house rule enough things about a game, you get to the point where you just want to find a better game

>what does that even mean?
It's stupid, but literally what they said. 'Weapon Skill' is a characteristic being called a skill.

The reverse would be something like having 'Cock Sucking Characteristic' on the skill list.

Nitpicking, at best.

Don't even bother, they're /k/ommandos, which means they'll get butthurt and quit when MUH TACTICAL OPERATORS get btfo by tyranids.

>the key difference is the range
I've found that range almost never comes up in these games. Most fights break out with everybody standing 30 or less meters apart.

yes BUT you can use full aim to add like +10 to your roll then there are talents that add a bonus, and of course range too (why rifles are good), these bonuses cap at +-60
so if you have 40 and do some bullshit to add +60 you are p much set, you only fail if you roll 99

anyway, there is no force so of course use the system that you prefer

Mos real world fire fights are at less than 100 feet.

My point is that range isn't much of a merit.

And high powered rifles aren't much better at killing than a pistol due to overpenetration

its up to the gm to create situations where enemies wont just wait until you walk up to them

That isn't the point, though. The point is that combat skills should be...you know...SKILLS, not attributes.

Probably not, we used to play Living Steel and Aliens, so they've had the experience of losing battles against freakish aliens...

That is extraordinarily untrue.

Look up the stats for surviving pistol shots to the torso compared to rifle rounds.Huge difference.

I really dont get the problem but ok
if you are working towards bonuses properly you can hit stuff

Got any proof to back your claims?

Gonna run an enemies beyond campaign soon. Trying to decide which Chaos god to base it on (if not just undivided).

Khorne is too easy, but might be most palatable to my players, who are all newcomers to tabletop. I personally want to do Tzeentch.

Any input, anons?

youtube.com/watch?v=3PAHu-5-aUM

All of them fighting each other as well.

go with tzeentch. khorne is boring, slaanesh can turn to fetishbait, and nurgle can be too lethal depending on how you want to handle pestilence. tzeentch gives a higher wierdness quotient, too.

I'm looking at Only War advance tables, and it seems like if my character survives into 10k exp, he becomes semi-deathwatch marine tier. Can I actually make a full-meme stormtrooper that can survive and kill most things in the galaxy?

10000xp is considered to be approximately equal to a starting Astartes character. Though that was scaled more for a comparison of 1st ed Dark Heresy than OW.

It would probably be easier to compare them to a starting BC astartes character since the advancement method is much more similar.

Reposting from the last thread.

>The fuck is this?
The Karybdis Abyss. A setting homebrew for Rogue Trader tailored for swashbuckling high adventure and pulpy deep void piracy in the pimply blackened ass end of the Eastern Fringe.

>What's in it?
A complete sector/region of space with its own Rogue Trader dynasties, history, larger than life personalities, relics, void-ship hulls, Void-whalers, planets, space-dragon riding knights and other assorted space scum.

>What's new in this version?
- Figures of Fame and Infamy: Rules and descriptions for some of the most well known Captains sailing the Abyss. Such as the Storm Prince, Drusus Jerubaal and Boss-Kaptin Blackgob
- Karybdis Fleet Registry: Famous ships sailing the Karybdis Abyss, such as the Stormbringer or Da Fang o' Gork
- Soldiers of Fortune: Famous and infamous mercenary units in the Karybdis Abyss. Including former Haupsburg house troops, a band of Freeblade Knights and tox-warfare specialists consisting entirely of Necro-Ghouls (think Fallout ghouls).
- Legends of the Abyss: Famous legends, artifacts and similar.
- New equipment, new ship hulls, new creatures

>Are you some kind of faggot?
I'm tripfagging and posting homebrew in /40krpg/ on a tibetan mandela making board, of course I'm a faggot.

I made my own kinda revamp to damage if you want to see. It doesn't add too much time to playing, and really just expands the hitboxes to organs and specific body parts. The combat in the FFG system can be a bit naff sometimes

If my Rogue Trader players want to sell a bunch of military salvage what rank would the Departmento Munitorum officer they speak to be?

My thoughts exactly. Apart from fetish-bait, Slaanesh is almost as overplayed as Khorne IMHO.

Nurgle doesn’t get enough love, but is hard to run well from the disease mechanics standpoint. Tzeentch it is.

Why aren't you busy writing your next homebrew sector? Are you some kinda double-faggot?

I'm not finished with Karybdis, which would make me a triple-faggot.

hump

Is this game actually good? I liked warmachine during mkii but haven't played since. I'm worried because whenever I hear talk of this game people shit talk the rules and strategy and say it's more about the hobby (painting/collecting)

Fuck wrong thread sorry 5am

But it feels like I can do insanely more with the 10k exp in Only War. To the point that my character could become a high-ranking deathwatch marine but without the astartes gear and unnatural T/STR

A question for Only War, a Line Infantry Regiment.
How many commisars should a regiment have?
One for each platoon, or one for each company?
One Platoon would be 45 Men, one Company 135 Men.

Technically it's one per regiment, but one for every company or every second company is reasonable.

I had an idea

instead of rolling 2d10/d100
how about you roll 2(3d6 -8) or if using a dice roller, 3d60 -80 for that sweet bell curve?
I mean, I know it's a pain to roll, seing as you essentially discount 1 and a third of the dice - maybe 2d6 - 2 / 2d60 - 20 would work? (I don't think bell curves work with two dice)
but you get to make shit, you know, less... flat

I'm a bit beyond tipsy and I know it, so I'm not sure if what I've said makes sense but I figured I might as well ask, y'know? and yeah, dice roller the way to go if you do that, I think

You can.

We had a DW campaign for a bit, and our femanon player didn't want to play a marine, so we let her make a Sororitas with 10k experience to buff her up to DW status. The idea being she was a Sororitas who had been headhunted by the Ordo Xenos and made an Inquisitor.

She was far more skilled than the marines, far more useful, and even more effective in both ballistic and close combat (Especially with her plasma pistol and eviscerator).

However, she was far more fragile. She had to be considerably more careful about risk management in combat.

I don't think one per regiment is enough. I would have one per company minimum, though less trustworthy or penal legions could have one every platoon.

>SKILLS, not attributes
When you take a game apart and examine pieces of it in a vacuum, it sounds silly, but the one doing it wrong is the one who thinks vacuum examinations are worthwhile.

As someone who has gotten into absurd XP reaches in a game, it's gear that actually makes a difference at the end of the day between an elite and a mook.
You can have 20k xp, but it means fuckall if you are still toting a lasgun.

Yup, unless you somehow get access to unnatural strength. Then you can fuck people up with knives and shit.

1d5+10 is merely ok.

Better than a lasgun, though that's not a great achievement.

Meltagun with range 34m and stormtrooper carapace seems pretty alright. Besides you can get your hands on multilasers and shit. Even the guard has some good toys.

Similar investment with a lasgun would get you 1d10+8.
Guns are an easier end goal, melee is top for murder but you need to start going into force/daemon/both weapons to do it like I did.

>Similar investment with a lasgun would get you 1d10+8.
How?

>hot shot lasgun is 1d10+4
>get BS to 80
>get mighty shot
>boom
>it's 1d10+4+4 that's 8
>quick math

>Lasgun
1d10+3
>Mighty Shot with BS5/60
1d10+6
>overload
1d10+8
It is the same math and assumptions made with the knife. I didn't just throw UnS+6 on it, or something stupid like that, only 2.

For a while, yes. Or use them as inspiration.

Hey. New GM for Deathwatch here. Just finished the demo campaign with my friends. Great time all around.

Now.. how do I keep going? It ends in a damn cliff hanger. Is there a continuation campaign too or do I need to make one? Im afraid I won't get as much dept, I was thinking of making it like the Hellsreach novel but with pink bastards running amok, but how would a team of 5 deal with a tyranid invasion?

Im kind of afraid of ruining the whole experience for everyone, it's the first time I ever GM and the demo scenario gave everything I needed when the players were piqued by inquisitivness or laxing.

tl;dr is there follow up to the Deathwatch's demo scenario ?

Check out the game masters kit or make something up.

just get the cloak of unnatural toughness

Anyone want storytime about my group's Dark Eldar campaign? It ended kind of abruptly due to personal issues, but there's still some decent moments in there. We used Rogue Trader rules for the characters, but it ended up playing kind of like Only War: DEldar Edition, as everyone was essentially just a kabalite warrior.

In case he party finds themselves in a forest.
youtube.com/watch?v=Pp0xs_xpTYo

Time to invade hive ships and blow them up from the inside.
Yes!

no. get a blog for your so randum XD alien bullshit

Question: If I am a psyker that takes the sorcery talent, do I have to take only Arcana or can I trade minor arcana for a Disciplin power?

Arcana and disciplines are always separate.

That's a lot of investment just for a lasgun.

how do i pick the stardate for my rt campaign?

M40[d10][d10][d10]

would M40101010 work?

Running a 2nd ed DH game for a party of two. One of a shooty dual wielder tech priest, the other is a noncombat administratum knowledge monkey. I know I should tone down combat encounters but I'm a bit unsure as to how much. Anybody have any tips?

In the grim darkness of the forty thousand one hundred and second millennium, there is nothing your mortal mind can comprehend.

Just tell the skillmonkey to make a fighting character or a psyker or something. In these games skills are always a secondary thing on top of your firepower.

you could gift them a minion each

Just came home from a home made campaign and succsesfuly used the Explication game mechanic from DH2ed Enemy Without and I have a question for fellow dh game masters.

How do you use the Inquest game mechanic from Enemy Within? I cant quite understand its role and potential. It seems to me as a quick way to flash out some random clues.

Any and all input is valued.

Nawh. Their character is pretty great and will do fun things for the game. He's also a pretty brilliant at aquisition.
This seems like a pretty good solution though. Thank you. How do you lot find players for online games? The gamefinder threads seem to have gone to absolute shit.

I dont know senpai, I wanted to run an RT game but my friends cant into wh40k

>How do you lot find players for online games?
Ask people you know.

Assuming Only War, it can get higher due to Get Them! from Sargent and Las Weapon Mastery.

Ask people you know. If you're a loser like me and have no friends just post it on roll20. I managed to find a pretty solid group of people to play with on roll20 and I'm really happy that I did but its a super crapshoot and most people aren't worth anything

>voice only
>voice only
>voice only

There are a few premade modules
>Ark of lost souls (space hulk dungeon crawl)
>Final Sanction
>Oblivion's edge
>Rising Tempest
>The Emperor Protects

check mega for supplements

I highly suggest you to try coming up with your own campaign ideas

Why on earth would you want to see a bunch of fat greasy neckbeards on cam? whats wrong with voice only?

w-what about text?

I much prefer voice. Text is kind of okay but a lot slower and it feels less natural. It can help with more serious RP stuff and some people just can't manage to speak so there is always that. Video is the only one that kind of gets to me as weird since seeing somebody adds nothing and actively detracts from things to me

Very slow and makes conversations unnatural.

>some people just can't manage to speak
thats me

You should really try and work on that user, it feels a lot better to be able to talk to people and interacting over voice online is the best way to practice

>I'm going to stay in my shell and stutter every time I have to interact with a human being

thats the plan

...

Do you like to be sexually bullied and potentially locked in chastity cages too?

you can find out if you host a text only game

A tempting offer.

you'd probably be too shy to send lewd pics of your locked dicklet anyway

Making my first character, a psyker, using Look Not Upon the Witch

What do you think? Glaring holes? We start with 2000exp, and 6 scarce items.

Wondering if I shouldn't go 50/50 with WS and BS. Just trying to make a well rounded character who can survive.

MoM = Mind over matter. With monstrous telekinetic I can lift like 200 killos and chuck it for like 1d10+20 impact damage at short range, approximately 20 meters.

Precision TK = pull grenade pins and long range wet willies, or maybe knocking guns around as they are about to shoot me.

Swift attack and blademaster... I'm wondering if I shouldn't invest instead in more dodge and Step aside

shit, forgot my image

Why are you buying so much ranged equipment if you're pumping WS? Why did you get Blademaster if you don't have a bladed weapon?

Your character is actually incomplete as you don't have a Background. If you want to survive, don't be a psyker, especially on your first character. All that exp could be used for other skills like Dodge or increasing characteristics.

>trying to powergame DH
Your GM will just throw nastier shit at you. Even if you can handle it the people that didnt optimize combat will be frustrated.

Just make something thats focuses on one thing but can be useful for a few others.

Either way...

>longlas with 25bs
Get something full auto so you can suppress, or a regular lasgun.

>grenade launcher with no training

>no concealable/low noise weapons other than that starting telepathica laspistol
I hope your GM lets you use mercy blades. Either way consider making your laspistol compact and piciking up some more discreet armor.

What the fuck is with all those grenades though?

I think AAT means adeptus astra telepathica.
