Would using Tartarus legs with marine torsos look acceptable or do the proportions get a bit fucked?
Connor Fisher
To the user who was giving me some advice at the end of last thread. I answered before it got archived but I'll post it here as well
>a missile launcher squad is always good 5 or 10 guys? I'd like some heavy support I might get some combi plasma veterans, lots of opportunities for cool conversions with vets >I'd recommend getting a unit of Gal Vorbak Of course, no Word Bearers army is complete without one of those >Do you have any vehicles? A rhino and a couple of Land Raiders but I don't really like painting vehicles. I might buy a super heavy if I find a new job soon
Josiah Garcia
> 30k > Not using autism-approved armour Mks with full traceability to manufactorum of origin.
Connor Powell
Post your 30k desk
James Lee
I'm coming back to 30k since most of the new custodes stuff seems to be usable in it. How do I tone back my list since they're pretty fucking OP. Allying SoS? I don't want my friends quitting on me.
Parker Wright
Looking at starting (heretic) Emperor's Children.
I've got a Calth box on the way and the bits to turn some of them into Kakaphoni.
Also have Eidolon and Fulgrim, tho I expect the big man himself isn't going to be useful when starting out.
I'm planning to buy some shoulder pads from FW for them, but what else would be good starting out? Also, should I just build at least 2 Tactical units or is there a better option from the Mk IV sprues?
Daniel Anderson
Don't use more than one Caladius, more than one Telemon (and make sure to use only one gun arm on it) and keep the Agamati low. Beyond that you're good, those are the stupidly OP choices. If you feel the need to dial it back further, bring Guardians or Sagittarum, both are awful and drag any list they're in down quite a bit.
Evan Nelson
Appreciate it user, good advice. I might just end up bringing a lot of the sagittarum anyway since they've got pretty nice looking models.
Camden Parker
Speaking of Custodes, finally finished the Ixion Hale I got for Christmas. Such a gorgeous model, painting him was pure joy. The wait has been well worth it.
Nathan Roberts
...
Liam Gonzalez
Nice custodes user, got better pic of them ?
Nathan Rodriguez
That's some damn fine work there.
Dominic Nelson
Not particularly interesting but I'm waiting for a big FW order to come in.
David Morris
Since we are talking about custodes, does anyone use Warder? I kinda like the color scheme more than the standard gold but i haven't seen many army of Warder
Charles Allen
Nobody likes snowflakes, user.
Jayden Hill
Dark or blood angels ? I'd say dark angels, because of the two predator for an ironwing list
Juan Wood
The amount of custode players would seem to render that statement false.
Michael Fisher
Snowflakes among the snowflakes, then.
Jordan Taylor
Can Jump Pack infantry ever enter a rhino or a drop pod?
Joshua Gray
Nope
Michael Gomez
You may want to use greenstuff to bulk up the torsos just a bit, but they should work
Connor Diaz
Bingo. Waiting on some Laser Vindicators, more rhinos(there's three in the pile of "to spray", and some other juicy bits.
Out of curiosity, how did you narrow it down? The Drop Pod insignia?
Leo Mitchell
I have a few models painted in the scheme to accompany my main force; when I use them I just run one as a Captain with the other five as Hetaeron(spear equipped, mind you).
Others who use the scheme typically just run them force normally since its presumed the Warders are just a specialized Custode section.
Pic not mine but related.
Carter Bennett
Yup, the drop pod narrowed the legion to two, and blood angels aren't renowned for their mechanised warfare
Evan Foster
...
Justin Harris
Oh well, no wings/jump pack for my Argel Tal Praetor then. I'm messing with a mostlyGal Vorbak themed list with the WB RoW.
Carson Parker
That's a grey knight torso I think, very modified.
Justin Martin
Is the Land Raider Phobos even worthwhile in 30k? I have a pair of them but I’m worried they’re largely overshadowed by most other vehicles.
Aaron Johnson
They're still heavily armed and armored transport vehicles, and are even part of certain ROWs, so why not?
Landon Morgan
If you don't need 25 seats in a Spartan, it's perfectly good, and in a squadron you can drop an augury web proteus into the mix. Also, it's not impossible to still do small primarch, just put the primarch and other characters into one phobos while the unit you intend to have the primarch with rides in the other. Then, when you get to your destination, disembark, join the characters with the unit, and assault as one blob.
Christian Lee
Thanks user. Here are some pics, they're a bit better but my camera and ambiant lighting are very shitty.
Parker Diaz
WIP Aquilon
Those guys are glorious user !
David Russell
How did you do the gold?
Nolan Taylor
>phantom of the imperial palace
Nolan Wright
Beautiful work user. I love that head, it fits perfectly with the rest of the model
Julian Bailey
That's some lovely custodes here, mine sadly don't compare
Austin Diaz
Is it Talons posting time?
Aiden Ortiz
1) Basecoat with Warplock Bronze 2) Multiple layers of a custom mix of Vallejo Glorious Gold and (7/8) and Vallejo Metal Color Gold 77.725 (1/8). The later doesn't really show desu, it just makes the former slightly less redish. 3) Shading with multiple layers of Agrax Earthshade or with airbrushed Dryad Bark. 4) Lighting with Vallejo Silver
I'm not entirely satisfied with the result but they are my first minis with so much gold and I haven't painted since 5th edition, so I guess it will get better after some training.
Ethan Sanders
Did we ever find out about why this Custode is white?
Justin Morris
He is from the Legio /pol/stodes
Christopher Adams
very nice! Much closer to the FW gold that I prefer.
William Parker
He's the Grand Wizard.
Benjamin Sullivan
Ambassador embedded with the Salamanders.
Gavin Johnson
Thanks, I think I'll try your painting out on a WIP World Eater.
Logan Myers
Is the Ironwing interesting to play? Any dreads in there or in the plans?
Gabriel Wright
He's a special public-relations custodes, who dispenses light-coloured confectionery to terran children.
Easton Williams
It's not finished yet, user, not with thoses godawful gems.
Austin Morgan
I've got a couple, yeah.
I've not had a lot of battles under my belt and none in person but it's a different style of play than I'm used to so I find it exciting. I never thought about using smoke launchers until I played it.
I'm playing about with the idea of throwing a bunch of mortis boxnoughts with Autocannons in to take full advantage of Tank Hunter.
Parker Carter
Trigger warning: some anons may find this image upsetting.
Austin Walker
Can someone explain to me why Battle for the Abyss is so loathed?
Easton Ramirez
Is there a way to run Phosphex Mortars or Medusas without being called WAAC/Cheesy?
Jaxon Bailey
...
Evan Long
What would you guys consider must-haves in an Emperor's Children collection?
And which units would you avoid?
Henry Ward
>Reactor offline >Sensors offline >Weapons offline >All systems minimal
Ayden Myers
>What would you guys consider must-haves in an Emperor's Children collection?
Base cannon.
Dominic Sullivan
Some dude on youtube asked the guys at the Open Day and was told that the Codex contains a few different color schemes; as an example black-armored custodes guard their relics and warmachines while the white-armored ones protect their gene-labs or some such.
Hudson Perez
One unit of Phoenix Terminators for a display case. Avoid everything else, especially playing the legion.
Ayden Carter
Why the shit do people get so mad about Hetaeron Deathstars? Shit is usually 1000 points you can beat up with S10.
I literally killed one with 2 Vindicators and 20 Tacticals last game.
Levi Wood
It's the white Custodes that guard the relics and genelabs. The black ones guard the secrets of the Custodes.
If you actually put that helmet on it doesn't fit because of the eagle head on the iron halo
Asher Fisher
Play Death Guard or Iron Warriors respectively. Anyone who calls you out for playing units iconic to your legion is a shitter.
>What would you guys consider must-haves in an Emperor's Children collection? Loyalty. loyalist EC > literal trash > traitor EC
Jordan Hughes
When the bullets start flying around, he won't give a damn about that eagle. nice quads
Jackson Cooper
No-one is mad about Haeteroi? People are justifiably mad about the Caladius, certain Telemon builds and Agamatii spam. Possibly also about the Shieldbune, but that is an edge case.
Chase Hughes
>only vehicles are a coronus and Emperor's marital aid >only dread is the vanilla Elite one >only one squad of 3 bikes >spear haeteros >equal number of sentinels and guardians >no tribune, because I got a navigator, knights-errant and a mandatory SoS HQ
Time to suck ass.
Logan Robinson
Don't forget to fill all HS slots with footslogging Sagittarum.
Michael Thompson
What the hell, all these models are gorgeous, which is not what I'm used to seeing on this board.
WHAT PACTS DID YOU MAKE ANONS
Isaac Young
Clearly you haven't seen the latest in the continuing trend of cape-blankets. Face it, the glory days of FW are gone.
Tyler Johnson
I did what I had to
Charles Williams
Guys, if anybody in here is interested in brainstorming asome theoretical fixes to the Talons of the Emperor army list, some user made a thread with a bunch of neat ideas. I know there are a bunch of Custodes players in here and we could do with some more suggestions, so get in there.
Jaxson Cook
Custards are so boring. Gold is such a boring scheme
Benjamin Sanders
This is the power of LOYALTY.
Nathaniel Torres
>having things so close to the edge >mfw
Samuel Cook
>Emps favorite children were so enslaved mentally that they would never question said enslavement
Thanks Emps!
Zachary Lee
If Custodes are supposedly Emperor's finest they should have the best equipment right? Why in that case don't they have volkite guns attached to their lances that are probably the best weapons besides grav guns.
Xavier Gonzalez
Because Emps had invented Custodes before he signed the treaty of mars?
Alexander Gray
Volkites are prone to breaking, need constant maintainance and are annoying to operate. A bolt weapon can be burried in a acidic swap for ten millenia and still work fine, ammo is availiable every where, can take a shitload of powerful ammo variants, is accurate to long ranges and can be fixed on the fly. A second, more practical answer is that the boltgun is part of their iconic look that they had decades before Volkite was even a idea in anyone's brain.
Jaxson Foster
yet moloc has a laser spear, said to be a custodian weapon so its not like there isn't preexisting fluff about them having laser sticks.
Adrian Rivera
Moloc is a single model made, like, six years ago by FW with a single line of fluff stating that it might be a custodes spear. The overall idea behind the custodes' weapons is from Rogue Trader. I know which fluff I'd stick with.
Elijah Thomas
...yes, and? Obviously not even FW gave enough of a shit about that rumor to include a weapon like it in their own ruleset for the Custodes, i.e. the guys said weapon is supposed to be from.
Christian Cox
Volkites are Mars tech while everything they Custodes use (should) be made on Terra. The description for a lot of their equipment sources them to Terra. Even their disintegration beams are Terran DAoT tech withheld from Mars.
Don't know how it works in 40k, when they use Land Raiders and there's Admech logos on their bikes.
David Torres
I was talking about their painting. Way to project.
But yes, I'm #slimteam all the way.
Logan Taylor
They probably have certain tech they’re willing to share or have specialty priests working on them. It makes perfect sense since their artificers need to be highly trained in multiple aspects.
Hunter Reyes
There's the Terran clans, though. If they can build grav-tanks and bolters, they can maintain them as well.
Christopher King
FW marine sculpts have always been terrible with their soft detail and bizarre proportions. They’ve only ever been good at vehicles and robutts.
Levi Nelson
Honest question here.
If you saw someone playing 3 Telemon Dreadnoughts what would you be thinking?
Aaron Hughes
"what a man of taste and style"
Jack Lee
>Well, dude is committed to his theme.
Michael Sanchez
>sure is crazy how he's running three things that are each rarer than a primarch
Andrew Torres
>A sodality of Telemons? What a nice nod to the lore!
Gabriel Torres
...
Landon Powell
"What are these people doing in my house?"
:'(
Anthony Sullivan
They could barely keep 10k Custodes equipped during the GC, and the Siege of Terra might have killed some or all of them, then comes ten thousand years of knowledge loss that did affect Terra as well. I'd be surprised if the gun-clans are still rolling on without dying out or being assimilated into the Red Priesthood to at least some degree.
Caleb Phillips
I can’t tell if this is ironic or not
Bentley Wright
Then my job here is done.
Noah Perry
>influx of proxy army 40k players to the HH after calth/prospero boxes >OP Custodes get a carbon copy army into 40k wow the next year of this game looks promising
Gabriel Bennett
So how does force org work in this game
Gabriel Hughes
Have you considered using your brain?
Henry Harris
New Word Bearer player from the thread the other day here. Got my Betrayal at Calth, painting everything now. What should I grab next? The Mhara Gal or Gal Vorbak? Or some demons?
