I’m working on my custodes bigboi, but I’m not sure how to paint all the details on him. Big thing is the Aquila- usually I do silver wings (see vexilla) with a darker shading, should I do this on his chest? I’m leaning towards it though not yet sure.

Also, ideas for laurels? I’m thinking maybe gold or white for the one on his head and green for the one on his pauldron. Also how should I paint the blade of his spear?

Also shot of finished (hopefully) gold on the lower leg, does it look alright? I wanted something a little brighter for the scary melee monster (not to mention honored ancient), though it might be a bit too gaudy. Either way I’m a terrible judge, your thoughts?

I bounce in beetween krieg rules and regular IG regiments mixed up. Like for the mechanized stormtroopers i play tallarn+catachan artillery and for the infantry blobs i go pure catachan, should try some cadian sometime.

I really like the bigboi so far and i always go for nice green laurels, the spearhead i would go for a bit of freehand lightning on it

I’m thinking the same thing with the spear, do the darker blue of guardian spears (not like this watchmaster, I wanted bright GK blue) with white or NL type highlights. I’m glad to hear the gold doesn’t look terrible, bananas have a very fine line between sexy and gaudy and I’m careful to try not to cross it

I'm not that read-up on the lore so I have no idea what they do between constantly polishing their weapons and then using those weapons

Well if they bring over their forgeworld stuff then I'm sure they'll give them the melta they could attach to the spears, also the ven land raider has 3 twin lascannons and is BS 2+.I think the axe will be a power fist equivalent weapon.

they train, look after their equipment, eat, maybe sleep a little, but their day is always packed with stuff so their free time comes down to maybe a few hours a day if they're not in a warzone

They train to kill the Emperors enemies. Then they eat a hearty meal. Then train some more to kill the Emperors enemies with extreme prejudice. 4 hours of sleep. Rinse and repeat.

That’s still a pitiful showing, you’re getting a handful of heavy shots at most. Right now it looks like the only really solid anti-vehicle custodes Stuff is;

I doubt paragon spears and similar will make it to 40k, but the jist is most units should be able to deal with both chaff and heavier stuff decently or the whole army is going to flop very quickly. They’re okay now, don’t get me wrong- basic Bros do like 7 wounds Mathammer to T7 and above- but they’ll need a little more to be really dependable agaisnt the really monster and vehicle intense lists

Part of the purpose of Space Marines was that they would be able to co-exist with normal humans during peace time in a way that Thunder Warriors couldn't. Though it's probably more difficult given that there is "only war". That said Dark Imperium mentions Guilliman sending Primaris marines out to equerry for other chapters and imperial institutions so I guess he's trying to resurrect the idea

Blackshields may be a free upgrade but you should reconsider your application of them, they are forced to move towards units that charge and that will really mess with your heavy weapons and dudes you want to keep out of melee like those frag-cannons and heavy-bolters
