Ball bearings. Versus skeletons.

How much detail is too much when trying to describe what the races are like in your setting, /5eg/?

>shadbase
Not this shit again.

Also, yes, I'll be making a similar document with what each of the nations are like. Because I am a crazy person.

Why is there a porn website in the OP? Please answer me kind SAGEs

Trapping a manticore with a mithrill net and slapping it on the ass to death while our barbarian halfling kept it prone.

On the last thread I asked for a character for an upcoming open world campaign that opens with mines of phandelver. I'm planning on playing a kobold. What kind of classes are fun with a kobold? I'm open to everything

Mounted is fun, on a dire weasel. That was their mount of choice I think. Like a less good, but faster dire badger
Samurai armour, literally made from the chitin of a giant insect.
Question, is your dm open to feats from ua? The official /not official beyond few d could let you get urd wings, which gives you super fun options.

On one hand, there's no such thing as too much detail.

On the other hand, your players actually taking the time to read all that detail is an entirely different matter.

Dnd beyond feats*
It's an expansion of the racial feats in xgte to include the bolo races
+1 dex and flight of 30 I think

Stop making duplicate threads you stupid autists, literally no other general on the board has this problem.
Either settle in one or fuck off to /trash/.

He says that he's ok with everything official. Page 74 of XGTE? What's on your mind? Cos mounting dire weasels as a kobold sounds pretty rad.

Wanting to make an Eldritch Knight that may actually make use of bonus action summoning their weapon.

My idea was dual wielding daggers and bonding both of them. Making lots of attacks and throwing daggers when I need to. I like the mental image of it.

Fighters get a fuck ton of ASIs, what would be some good ones for this character? I was thinking of being a dual wielding character from the start with v human for the bump in AC since he'd be dex based. But also probably grabbing war caster.

Any other ideas for feats though? Maybe more creative ones? I can't remember, does sharp shooter work with thrown weapons? Maybe magic initiate for a few more spells/cantrips.

And speaking of. What spells/cantrips do you think would be fun for this guy?

>7 pages
>for 14 races
Shit, son, I usually have at least 16 pages per race

The kobold and other monstrous races, their racial feats were released as a special document for people who bought a dnd beyond thing.
Some are op as fuck, some are meh, almost in line with the xgte feats. Kobolds got flight and +1 dex I believe. If you want to go beyond mounted.
A mounted kobold, like a ranger or cavalier could be fun. Pump con as high as you can, no one expects a small sized tank.

...

Alright sounds like a very fun concept. I'm behind this cavalier kobold mounting a dire weasel. Is this document on the trove or what, where can I find it. Lots of thanks for your idea mane.

>Because I am a crazy person.
Isn't that just called "being a DM"?

Uhhh. My DM says that a mounted kobold is edgy as fuck.

Giant weasel is the new dire, page 329 of monster manual.
Cavaliar is in xgte page 30
Kobold is in volos, page 119
Arrows for shooting, maybe grab sharp shooter, and a dex melee weapon.

My players are in a tower about to head up into a spaceship that is nestled in its apex, they'll encounter doppelgangers of lost relatives, xenomorph aliens and elder things and have to destroy a Dead Space marker.
Doing so will collapse the spaceship and tower, but they can flee through a portal (like the ones in Bioshock Infinite) to a cabaret in a variant Paris, there they'll encounter ghouls and eventually will have to end up in a destroyed Eiffel Tower and need to destroy a second Marker.
Wish them luck.

How's your campaign going?

You same person?
Either way, not more edgy than a lot of other options. Play him/it as an honourable little Knight. Loyal to his mount, coin, and a real survivor.

Yeah that's what I'm planning to

Hence the one-sentence blurb for each at the start, the idea being that if that sounds interesting they can then go read the main entry.

Oh thank God, I haven't gone full Rain Man yet.

Yes.

In what possible universe is a small lizard man riding a giant furry weasel edgy? That's, like, the anti-edge. That's fucking kawaii.

Your DM has no idea what that word actually means, does he?

Nice, I hope it goes well

I remember you from a few threads back. Do you still have your setting map?

He's certain that kobolds are edgy but drow and tiefling warlocks aren't. I've played with him a few times as a player and I DM for him in POTA. It kind of grind my gears.

He warned me about people reacting to me differently because I am a kobold. This is what scares me because he said to me that he has only read the PHB.

...

>DMing
>has only read the PHB

Wear a hood over your armour.
Pretend to be a halfling(never a gnome you wouldn't debase your honour that much).
Just FYI, cavaliers main marking ability functions off strength mod per long rest, along with the 15th level charging ability.
So you might want to pump str. Be a swobold

Yup. Since the races are done I'm now doing the nations in more detail. They'll get 3-4 paragraphs apiece, but like with the races will get little one- or two-sentence blurbs at the start so that players don't have to read the entire document.

The basic plots of several animated movies may or may not have happened as setting backstory, including Aladdin, genderswapped The Little Mermaid (the biggest one, actually), Frozen, and The Road to El Dorado. I plan to gradually phase these out/make them more distinct, but for the moment they provide useful touchstones.

Gnomes a shit. Kurtulmak uprising when?! Aight, dumping points on STR and CON

>shad
Reported and saged.

...

You could also send in the weasel to engage in melee, and get advantage on all arrow shots, along with melee if you wish to. Pack tactics along with a companion who can fight is super nice.
Dex and that tactic is less cavalier, and more optimal. But fuck it, swobold is fun too. I just hope you aren't using point buy, cos str of 13 is hard going for the first while, but getting advantage as much as possible will help. Easy to get stats of 13,14,14,10,11,10. Put asi into str, and get feats suitable to your fighting style

>Has your party ever done any weird, wacky or funky things to pass an obstacle without resorting to fighting?

I'm new to DMing and playing with a party that's new to playing. My first time as a DM was their first time as players. We're playing through Lost Mine of Phandalin.

They get to the part where the goblin shit demands they kill Klarg (the bugbear) or he will kill Sildar (the guy who gave them a quest). My players debate for a bit, huddle up and finally decide to....agree! Sure, we'd love to go do that. We want you to be in charge so that we have a friend and fearless leader like yourself running this cave.

They walk down the pathway and find a big, approximately head-shaped rock to place in a sack. They take a short rest (the fight before had really fucked 'em up) and return, telling the goblin that Klarg is dead.

I thought that was pretty damn clever for a first time party. It didn't work out for them in the end (blah blah, goblins wanted more money too) but smart thinking from a group of people whose closest DND experience before has been Final Fantasy.

is there a template for this?

I think the basic thing can be found in the pastebin under >Resources in the OP, but I've tweaked it a lot over the past year or so to refine it to my personal tastes.

I think I can do fine with the two of them. Quick question, If I'm mounted do I get the advantage from pack tactics from my weasel?

War Caster would be good. Dual Wielding is decent. The build itself isn't great because using your bonus action to recall a dagger sorta negates the entire point of two weapon fighting.

Sharpshooter only half works with thrown weapons. You can ignore cover and no penalty for long range but you don't get the damage bonus with melee weapons, only ranged weapons

Max str and con. Get mounted combatant, maybe not as good with a medium mount, but will protect the mounts hp.
Get a shield and melee weapon, if you are using str, keep dex at 12 and pump more into con or wis.

Also, as a follow-up to this...

They seem really into it. Which is great! Once we get through Phandelver* (not Phandalin), where should we go next?

Hoard of the Dragon Queen? Strahd?

What the fuck, that's insane.

Yeah I understand that when it comes to the two weapon fighting.
I suppose the idea isn't to always be throwing the daggers. It's more like something to do when not wanting to engage melee or someone is just a little too far.

Yeah that's what I figured for SS. Cheers for the clarification.

Yes you do, and look at this
For feats, depends on how long you go, but I'd recommend mounted combatant ASAP, then asi to bring stats up(13,12,15,10,13,8), str to 14 and con to 16. Then grab shield master and what ever you want.
But you need mounted combatant to keep your weasel alive.

Are the XGtE Barb paths any good?

Yeah "play what you want", I agree. But strictly from a min/max standpoint, are they any good?

Zealot is great, storm barbarian isn't as good as expected. That's my personal experience

Coolio. I'll be getting Mounted Combatant asap. I think mines has a lot of goblins and spiders iirc.

My party wants to "save" a friendly Nothic they found during their travels. I ruled that Nothics are what happens when someone's soul gets trapped in the Far Realm.
I'm debating whether or not returning the soul reverses the physical effects of Nothicism or only the mental ones, thoughts?

Your description reminds me of the feeling I used to get when reading His dark materials when I was younger and how intriguing and filled with the excitement of exploration going through portals and the way the world just felt so expansive and never-ending. You're doing God's work user. Is the setting all your own and you're just rolling with it?

Hoard of the Dragon Queen is...not regarded as good. A very good DM with an eye for storytelling can make it good, especially if he can invest personal sidequests into it, but otherwise it's very railroady.

Strahd is excellent, but is very much a thinking man's campaign. You won't get far if your first instinct is to kick in the door. As well, Strahd himself has to be played in a certain way that is very demanding on a DM. Your player characters MUST hate Strahd by its end and want to see him gone. If they consider him just an end-boss, then you're not running him right.

A better choice might be Out of the Abyss, Temple of Elemental Evil, or Storm King's Thunder. Of those, I recommend Storm King's Thunder...though I recommend changing the end boss from a blue dragon into some other powerful creature. Iymrith as written is kind of shallow and doesn't seem particularly invested in the plot beyond wanting phat l00t in the form of the Wyrmskull Throne. For my own DM'ing of it I'm instead going to have her be an Empyrean, a forgotten daughter of Annam who helped forge the Ordnung but who's tribe of giants, the Ash Giants, were given a lesser place in it when she thought they deserved the top. When she and they rebelled, she was struck down and the Ash Giants cast out, eventually becoming Death Giants. So Iymrith is tearing apart the Ordnung out of a desire to screw over her father and his favored creations.

Also the whole campaign is going to take the form of the PCs from it, 30 years later, telling the story to a rapt audience at an inn.

There will likely be singing.

>DM'd many IRL games over the last year
>Regularly asked for more games
>Own exactly 0 PHBs
>Have barely skimmed a PDF
>Duckduckgo'd a few moster stats
>Many happy players and memorable games
Also do roughly none of this, got an A5 notepad only I see instead;
Remain Disgruntled.

That's the way to do it. 5e is so poorly designed in some respects that knowledge of the rules will only get in the way of fun.

There isn't a single rule in my race write up. It's all fluff. If I had a mind to I could just as easily apply it to GURPS, the Storyteller System, FATE, Dungeon World, even Tails of Equestria.

I think the sea barb or whatever is p good compared to the others from that line.

Thanks heaps, bro! Yeah, pretty much rolling with it, dude. My friends are allegedly playing ToA but I want to insert things that they'll hopefully like and find fun and tied in to their backstories. They'll be able to find antimatter rifles and revolvers this session.

How is His Dark Materials by the way? Would you recommend it?

Cool, I wish you luck.
Don't forget to show how much of a good boy your weasel mount is.

It's not /5eg/ users it's shad shills.
>Report and sage

It's been so long since I've read it. There's a lot of appeal to younger readers when it comes to animal companions, young protagonists and that sort of thing which might not be as appealing for older readers. Also the not!catholic church and religion in general gets critiqued very hard in the books which I can imagine might come off a bit blunt today. But if you're looking for some solid fantasy-adventure stories for a younger audience akin to Narnia then I guess they're a solid pick.

I wanna be a kobold bard and be a clumsy, but eager servant of a group of adventurers... preferably in a text-based D&D campaign. How can I approach in order to make this happen?

playing a female character (fighter) for the first time
any tips on playing a female without being the group slut

You play the best archetype there is. Battle master No one will fuck with you.

>any tips on playing a female without being the group slut

Don't fuck any of the other party members.

play an older woman, preferably a spellcaster

Roll up a kobold bard, approach the player with the wealthiest backstory and ask if they mind writing you in as a family minstrel / bequest from a mad uncle or such. Simper and bow, jobs a good'un

No worries, dude. Sounds pretty cool though. I've read the synopsis and it sounds pretty interesting. Will try to check it out.

Stop posting in a shadman shill thread.

Stop being an overly sensitive, autistic little shit.

Fuck off shadman, go pedo, pardon, peddle your wares elsewhere.

>just rolled 18, 18, 15, 15, 12, 6 for stats
>going to play a Barb
>6 INT
How do I play a 6 INT character without being obnoxious as shit.

I have no fucking idea who the fuck this Shad is, if you want to do something, make a new thread. Otherwise you sound like a petulant prattling autistic little shit. Calm your massive mantits.

Be the kind of stupid that just stands around not entirely certain what to do unless there's an immediate and obvious danger in the area (such as attacking bandits or a volcanic explosion).

The key to playing a dumb but NOT obnoxious character is to not do anything that sabotages the party through your own stupidity.

ANYONE WATCHING THE NEW CRITICAL ROLE CAMPAIGN RIGHT NOW???

I am, once the old one is on page 10. In the meantime, I am reporting and saging this one.

I was wondering if I could get some help.
I am creating a character for 5e, a level 10 Half-Elf (Half-Drow) Warlock (Pact of the Blade) L5 + Rogue (Thief) L5
Background: Criminal / Spy Background
Age: 150

Im having trouble fleshing out his backstory. I know I want him to be a master thief, whose criminal career spans 1 decade, He is a Half-Elf whose Elf half is Drow. A Bag of Holding was his first major score. And he is a gambler.

Alright, i'll probably have him be really smart about ONE thing too (probably combat strategy, that kind of shit). But just fucking clueless otherwise.

Work on misusing and mispronouncing words too.

>any tips on playing a female without being the group slut

Play how you would play a male fighter, just as a female

Keep being amazingly autistic. Calm your massive man boobs.

...

>i'll probably have him be really smart about ONE thing too
no, it cant be anything useful like combat strategy, it has to be something unexpecting like cooking

I mean he's lived a life of combat, having him be stupid in combat doesn't make a lot of sense.

he doesnt have to be stupid in combat, he could know how to fight well, but if he is gunna be "smart" in something, catch the party off guard like maybe he is an incredible art critic

Shadman seriously, fuck off.

Don't make him smart at anything, he's not autistic. Just make him creative, like he's good at art or music or cooking or w/e

I mean he has a 16 WIS (took Observant as my DM uses passive perception a fuck ton), so he's got that going for him.

Are you fucking serious? You're fucking literally autistic.
Don't blame me for something an autistic piece of shit started. Next time start the thread earlier. You all have fucking issues.

youtube.com/watch?v=3H7IUbwFG40

Damn. That sounds boss as hell.

Thanks for the insight man. I'll skip on Dragon Queen and maybe see how Strahd looks by giving it a read through. Sounds like for the second campaign it may be above the players (and me as the DM), but we'll see!

Stop shilling your paedophiliac content on a blue board.

Aside from being a flat out better Champion and having no utility how is the Brute?

Does good damage, is fun in a fight, is incredibly boring otherwise. And to be honest, it'll probably get boring in a fight after awhile too, just haven't played it long enough to know for sure.

Actual thread:

Would it eclipse any of the non-Champion Fighter archetypes?

>keep thinking up new characters
>they're all fighters
>most are battlemaster

am I doing something wrong or is Fighter just the best class at low levels?

The person doing it is obviously a troll or a /pfg/er. Sounds like you.

Aww, poor baby. Cease your sniffling.

If he has a solid decade of being a master thief, I would think the following questions would need to be answered:
-What has he stolen, and from who?
-Did he work with a team of people?
-Any botched heists?
-How has his gambling affected his thievery?
-When did his warlock abilities come into play? Were they needed for a heist?
-What did he do with his stolen gains?

I've never thought up a fighter character, I think it has more to do with what you personally like.

Shadman, please. Discontinue your efforts.

I appreciate this breakdown. I'm in the same situation and my rogue - "nah it's okay I'm going to leap over everyone and slay Klarg myself WHAT DO YOU MEAN I GOT HIT" - suggested he would buy me Tomb of Annihilation for xmas and I haven't seen spine nor page of it. I read through some of it already but you're making SKT sound pretty interesting.

Good luck, hope it goes well! One thing I learned from running LMOP, at least in my experience, is that the book you read and the game you play are probably going to be notably different. Stay on your toes and keep them on theirs, I say to myself.

How about you actually contribute something? I'm not op but find you excruciatingly and laughably autistic.
