Various worlds and multiverses have become connected together via the mysterious Overcity, a sprawling landscape inhabited by monsters and magical beings. Girls and boys endowed with their new supernatural powers can work together solving conflicts that arise!
>This is NOT a greentext adventure style CYOA with one GM and thread posting to dictate the adventure, but rather a hub thread for multiple storycrafters to use.
This thread houses three systems: First, QuasarBlack's CYOA PDFs which may be used as writing prompts. Second, AMGC which expands on the CYOA character creation and provides rules for combat. Finally, the SCS is an alternative to AMGC with a similar purpose. IRC uses mostly AMGC and Discord uses mostly SCS.

This PDF is for AMGC 1.15.1, one of the two usable PNP systems for playing as a magical girl. It features 10 additional powers and 20 extra perks, as well as combat actions, point buy, and more. Note that this is NOT the same as the CYOA, and uses its own methods of character generation.
>Spec Trees (spells for all 19 normal Specializations, and all recorded Oddball trees. Updated often): mgcyoa.sync.in/Spells >Magic overhaul by Drakon in progress. Teaser located here: pastebin.com/jCStZAqq
The SCS was made as an addon to the CYOA to cover the combat side of roleplaying. It allows players to easily take characters made in the CYOA v1.5 and use them in Quests and long-running campaigns alike. Note that this system DOES require you to have a character made in the CYOA in the OP first.
This PDF covers the core rules of gameplay, as well as the methods of improvement and various spells and items magical girls use.
>Expansions to the SCS can be found in this link pastebin.com/kVJmwcj3 These expansions include >Order & Chaos; Friend & Foe (OC&FF): Details on the mechanical workings of Patrons, Dark Magical Girls, Monster Girls (both natural and corrupted), and also includes a bestiary >Worlds & Wishes (W&W): Details various GM tools and a few player tools, including the function of Mundane weapons, Alternate/Optional Rules, Various tips and tricks for GMing and Roleplaying, as well as Augments for players looking for a little extra power after CharGen. It also includes the conversion process for AMGC characters into the SCS.

Well they keep the thread bumped so whatever.
Also here's a fun resource. Unlike most campaigns you can make a character using this software and it'll actually fit. Great for people who can't draw for shit but want to customize their character.
Sorry, didn’t complete my thought, we’re off to a great start, so why isn’t this in the /cyoag/ thread?
Kayden Hill
Because this can't really be called a CYOA anymore because of how complex its gotten, despite the name. Its more a fully fledged tabletop system with working stats that a campaign can easily be written around. Its no different than any other general based on a system around here at this point.
Landon Cooper
That’s what I thought, hopefully threads still around when I get home so can make a character
Chase Brown
Its surprisingly fun, I totally recommend giving it a spin.
Ethan Harris
One of my characters is a NEET, so you can imagine what she does in her day to day. Actually, that makes me wonder if there are any other NEET Mahous. Though, can they really be called a NEET? Mahouing is kinda like a job.
Easton Mitchell
She lives in the Big Apple, and when she's not out fighting the good fight, she loves to indulge in conspicuous consumption.
Julian Howard
That's why the pink PDF is the first post. That's the actual CYOA -- the blue and purple PDFs below are addons sort of bolted on top.
Pic related. She's got Interdimensional Home, so she actually does live in the Overcity.
She can't really go home again, so her routine consists of working in the Wand & Circlet and conducting patrols of the stable zone around the W&C with scouting patrols into the rest of the Overcity. With Interdimensional Home, she doesn't have to worry about getting lost in the sprawl, so it doesn't concern her.
Samuel Nguyen
Mine lives on a tropical island with her waifu
Jaxson Brown
My mahou is basically a NEET. They've given up on being productive in any way besides their role as a magical girl, because they figure they might as well since nothing they do will ever overshadow their new duties, so why bother?
Noah Lewis
but is the troll wrong
she works part-time, like any responsible young lass
Levi Torres
You have to actually make a point to be wrong
She doesn't have papers cause of being transformed, so she's got an under the table gig at a newspaper. It's a Clark Kent deal, where she uses it to keep an ear to the ground.
Dylan Thompson
Let's have a quick discussion. Why do you think these threads are so slow? What do you think could be done to speed them up? Any fun ideas you can think of to liven things up?
Daniel Cooper
Threads are slow because nobody likes how clunky and easily broken the system is and how hard it is for anybody new to take interest
Owen Lopez

What sort of suggestions do you think could help improve the system?
Henry Kelly
Our group actually wants to try this setting. We are just wondering which system would be best.
AMGC? SCS? Or some generic system? I guess OVA was made for this type of game, but I can also imagine FATE and maybe Genesys.
Jackson Lewis
>AMGC I prefer this one. Its just more streamlined and easier to manage imo.
Landon Perez
AMGC is trash. SCS looks much more put together. Half the problem is updates take forever and half the time people don't want to make a change until it becomes inconvenient to their planned event or story
Oliver Hall
>AMGC is trash. How? >SCS looks much more put together. I've found it to be more put together but all the concepts tend to have a poor time getting along and don't balance well. AMGC gives you less options but is more balanced.

That's just my opinion after playing the two. I might be wrong, I dunno. I've also found AMGC to be especially good for PVP and battles with npc mahous of questionable intent.
Kayden Adams
>is "Like the great birds who rule the skies, I shall hunt my prey!" too cheesy of a henshin line
It's cheesy but that's the point. I love it, personally.
Matthew Morgan
Thanks, user I've always adored either Air or Ice magic, so I'm glad I got Air, especially with the wings and a pet birb Idk, maybe Kimono isn't quite what I'm after, but definitely some simpler flowy dress then EG Seibah
Logan Rivera

Thanks user.
I didn't think a regular text post was appropriate. Have this nightmare fuel.
Kayden Cooper
No problem.
I guess to stay on topic, I always wanted to create a magical girl theme of The Darkest Dungeon. As soon I'm done study this system, I'll try to make something similar to it.
Logan Nelson
Air magic is pretty fun. My girl, see is also Air/Melee/Sword. She's got 14 Agility, so I flavor her as a fluid battler, almost like she's dancing.
I sometimes wish I had gone for Wings, but between Enhanced Transformation/Outfit, Money, Interdimensional Home, Eternal Style and Fortunate (She's AMGC, hence why six), I'm not too fussed with what I put together. If I had it to do over again, I likely would have gone Wings over Money, as I overestimated the Money perk.
Julian Walker
>Darkest Dungeon I just realized that you mean the video game. A magical girl party in this setting would be SO cool.
My first thought was Dark Dungeons from Jack Chick. Just imagine Marcie and Debbie as the magical girls named Black Leaf and Elfstar.
Adam Collins
Dungeons in this setting would look like something off of Madoka Magika. The magical girls can detect the distortion effect cause by these dungeons and it's their duty to go in it to stop monsters from coming out of it.
But these dungeons won't go away until you deal with the boss deep inside the dungeon. Low level magical girls job is just to deal with the monsters coming out and only allow to go a few levels down. High level magical girls go ball deep to deal with the dungeon, but it might take several days depending on how powerful the boss is.
William Gomez
Monstergirls need more love!
I've always liked the idea of a newly minted monstergirl suddenly finding herself on the run from a group of mahous that really to kill her for no apparent reason while balancing basic survival with her new urges.
What are some interesting situations/goals/encounters you guys can think up of?
Adam Ross
part time job, encountering one of her pursuers as a costumer / kouhai/ senpai in her baito (or in school if you think about it)
starting up new life as monstergirl in case returning to old life isn't aplicable. this includes finding a place to stay and means to pay the bills.
getting mingled with tough crowd due to being on the boundery of sociaty.
having double life where there is yuri relationship in one of them. maybe even with one of the magical girls.
getting her identity blown up.
working against evil organization that seeks to use monster girls as weapons. got cought up cuz a fellow monstergirl who is also her best friend got kidnapped by them, ended up joining some magical girls for the greater good.
Landon Morgan
do you guys draw your characters, use some program, google a fitting image or just let it remain as text and simply use your imagination to visualize from point 0?
Brayden Butler
I got a feeling if I made a dark magicial girl with a horror patron, my introducing might look a lot like this...

Benjamin Foster
times are filled with apathey and despair due to the works of a dark organization that wish to keep humanity as easy to manage cattle. despite the fact i was immune to their plans due to my bloodline, i was overlooked by the poochus due to my natural laziness being mistaken as apathy. one day, on the way home from shopping i took a different route than usual because i show a cute loli going home that way. despite knowing my town like the back of my hand, i got lost as i enetered the other side- it is there i met the poochu, who was delighted to have found me. and thats how my adventures as a magical girls begun.
im now 13, so i guess i'm a loli? sure feel weird. this appearance isn't too bad, i'd do myself if not for my constant smirking, totally ruin my cute face. i hate when little girls try to be 'mature', as it completly ruin their cuteness! but now im one, and that smirk totally ruins my fun mirror time. oh well. spent silver to change age from 9 to 13.
it seems i gained the power of empathy. its nice. its the best power i could get for bringing hope back to the world. but i hope i won't have too much trouble in actual combat... i need to actually go out to where other people are to refill my magical energy? ummm.... ok? bloodline perk. i ignored the ice outcome.
so one of the other MGs set her eyes on me. scary... eh? she wants to help me? this cute little girl? ally perk... creating one seems like ahassle, maybe one of you guys could be my senpai?
well, i still have more cards up my sleeve, but enough for now. ill use my magical brooch to transform and im off to fight the baddies; 'kira kira kirararin, kiririn hikarin!' (how emberessing) final stats STR and AGI at 4, VIT and LCK at 6, MAG is 22.

the girl who aproached me calls herself Sahar and she has a twin named Razz. together they are 'shadow of midnight' and it seems they want to keep an eye on me so my noobness won't get in their way. well, i won;t complain, as both are quite the delice. the look younger than me but areactually older, what gives? it seems razz is byproduct of the magical girl thing and sahar parents don't know about her. they have a disguise artifact to make things managable but it seems pretty hard. id offer my interdimensional house i got on my end, but since they both know who i am origanlly ill refrain for now, even tough i realy want to help. ooh, i forgot to mention- their spec is dark. kinda weird. im with the good guys right? afterall, i myself am not a paragon of virtue... its just kinda suspicious, but ill still use this opurtunity to try and make the world a better place.

Joshua Stewart

Some Magical Girls don't need to sleep but do it just to give their mind a rest. Nocturnal girls don't have nightmares they have daymares
Cooper Lopez
Friendly reminder that we shouldn't care about that and should just have fun flinging magic around destroying things that need destroying (and some things that don't)
Chase Martinez
Really? I didn't see any of that when I joined. I think its just a matter of not being shy and diving right in. Just find a public channel and start posting. Someone's bound to answer. Worked for me.
Tyler Sanchez
The problem isn't that it's "hostile". The problem is that it's circlejerky, and there's a difference. People come in expecting a game, but instead, what they get is endless regurgitated memes, fluffy pillow-fight/yuri-light pseudoroleplaying and long talks between people they don't know about characters who've long since ceased being interesting. People are too attached to their characters, which ends up in the most roleplaying being simply flirting and interludes, and no character has flaws that aren't played for cuteness or exaggerated to the point where they're barely anything but that trait anymore. The people who're shat on are the ones who threaten the status quo, because the regulars are creepily attached to their self-inserts. It's like Gaia back in the day.
Connor Rogers
Hi Gisela.
Juan Moore
See? I'm not even active on the IRC or Discord, I just lurk the threads. But still, I hit the nail on the head enough to be mistaken for one of the members of the inner circle - and it says a bit that someone who blames the IRC/Discord for being insular is hung out by name.
Nathaniel Scott
Who shove a stick up your ass? I'm help to help bump the thread and yuri-light roleplaying. :3
Logan King
I have no particular feelings toward one side of this argument or the other and even participate in both IRC and discord events but can we not namedrop please it just reeks of drama and namefaggotry and I hate it.
has a point, that sort of shit just isn't good behavior, especially on an anonymous image board.
Benjamin Evans
Maybe acknowledge that people have the right to expect roleplaying from something pitched as roleplaying, instead of just people's underage female self-inserts bumping uglies. Magical girls are all well and good, but when you get invested enough in diverting your lack of understanding of real women into your erotic roleplaying of caricatured perfect lolis that you shut yourself off to all feedback, you should expect to be shat on.
Aaron Garcia
Go have that. In a room. Made for it. Then let others roleplay with stakes, consequences and a reasonable semblance of maturity in another channel. It's that part that's infantile - assuming that everyone who doesn't want your content-less yuri flirting all the time and all over the characters they want to play seriously "just has a stick up their ass".
John Wilson
>Pssst! You'll let me devour your energy, right? I promise to be gentle.
Mason Turner
Nah I was just being a cheeky dick. I agree with you on mostly everything, except for newcomers getting shit on. I see newcomers get shit on when the newcomers are assholes, and that's mostly it. It's incredibly frustrating to not be able to be creative at all because people don't like that their characters could be put in danger and it makes everything fucking boring and I don't really bother RPing anymore myself.
Adrian Davis
Hell, let's gather the people who want to make throwaway characters and create a room for it. With loud, explicit disclaimers on it that forbid usage of characters who appear in other rooms, remind people that their characters will die if the rules say so, as well as informing in advance that anything like means removal. There'll still be drama. But at least there'll be roleplaying.
William Jackson
Is the Discord any better?
Ryan Reed
You know the answer already.
Henry Allen
Not really actually.
Connor Nguyen
The discord actually has players who like to see their characters be put in dangerous situations
Chase Johnson
Well excuse me princess if I try to roleplay a monster girl with the devourer perk.
Ryder Diaz
"Trying" and "succeeding" aren't the same thing. First of all, remember that the actual magical girl genre is far-removed from your little pocket universe where everything has to be an innuendo. And then when you succeed in roleplaying a character instead of a caricature, then and only then can you expect to not get shat on.
Cameron Morris
What would you define as a character with actual character? Not the guy you were talking to but I'm curious. I may not agree but I'm always seeking opportunities to refine my storytelling so its worthwhile to listen to the opinions of people.
Brayden Baker
Sorry. Next time I'll just get the clone perk and keep it all to myself. :3
Gabriel Collins
why not a monstergirl with both perks?
Blake Jenkins
It's pretty simple at the bottom of it, but of course it can be complicated in practice. A character with "human" priorities, interests, passions, fears, dislikes, you name it. A character whose personality, self-presentation and thoughts are defined by their upbringing, their experiences and their emotions, not by a meta goal or desire on the player's part. A character who is first and foremost a person in their own right, not a "vampire loli" or another niche like that. That's not to say you can't make a convincing character who's also a vampire and a loli, but if you approach character generation from the predetermined goal of "I want to make a character who is X and Y" or "I want to make a character who makes my naughty bits tingle", you're in all likelihood going to end up making a caricature with little depth, who ends up clashing with the setting more often than they mesh with it and who's unconvincing, shallow and even creepy in a most definitely undesirable way. Approach it from the person first - let's go with that vampire loli. Use your experiences and your empathy to find out what that little girl wants, why she wants it, what she spends her time on and what her flaws, dislikes and foibles are. Create a human being. Someone who could be living next to you. No matter who the character is supposed to be (unless they're literally an alien consciousness), they're still fundamentally based on the human psyche, and humans empathize and sympathize best with fundamentally human characters. After that, you add the deviations and the spice - and you consider how the character reacts to it. Imagine how that little girl would take to being turned into a vampire, and bring it completely down to earth. Forget the idea of that outfit you had in mind, or those cool lines - that comes later, because character generation is a process. (1/2)
David Lopez
The discord has had player sustainability issues but is making a new years effort to actually do shit after one of their better players left due to lack of content.
Andrew Gonzalez
>Extra dimensional home >Devourer >Clone perk
I like where this is going.
Gabriel Cox
If you flinch or get uneasy here, it's a good thing. It means you're empathizing with the character and reacting to the unfamiliar idea of them being a person rather than a narrative tool or construct. Think of how this little girl, with all her petty foibles, with all her annoying childish quirks, with all her personal fascinations and attachments, would deal with this and what she'd do with it. And if it turns out you're running wildly off track, rewind and change something to make it work - it's fiddly work at times. Remember that all characters, if you want people to empathize and sympathize with them, if you want them to do what famous authors say their characters do and "jump off the page" or "write themselves", you have to start with a person, as realistic and as detailed as you possibly can make them. And then you have to make your setting happen to them, exposing them to stimuli and events and letting them react to it in a sensible way. They might not seem "cool", "alluring" or "scary" at first glance. But they'll grow on you and other people, because they have depth and you can empathize with them. A character built as a person first and foremost, then exposed to the setting bit by bit and their reactions impacting their personality, is a lot more convincing, long-lasting and interesting than one who's made to sum up a single concept or gimmick - because they, unlike Edgemaster McKatana's demon swordsman with three demons sealed into his right hand and seven angels in his left, are a person who you can empathize with. You can imagine their emotions, you can possibly even feel them vicariously, and their failures become more frustrating and their victories more enjoyable by virtue of the fundament for the character being nothing more than a person. If you can't imagine the character before their adventure began as someone who could be living in your town or the next town over, I think you're hurrying.
Carson Long
Ok then we definitely agree on most of these points, especially setting up how a character should behave without taking into consideration their powers and gimmicks and what have you.
The only thing I might add would be that since this is a game based heavily in a japanese/anime setting, some degree of unrealistic behavior would be acceptable. For example, having a character greatly overreact to certain events, make anime noises no real people make, pose dramatically, or adhere to certain larger than life character archetypes present in the medium would obviously not fit a gritty low fantasy adventure but be completely acceptable in a magical girl campaign, and in my opinion should actually be encouraged, but not to the point that it distracts from the story or the seriousness of specific moments.
Hudson Reed

I'm pretty sure there was an anime where the main girl turned into a magical girl, but had a skimpy outfit. So I don't judge.
