previously on Modern General Questions of the now: Are constant bannings good for competitive development? Does it encourage innovation? Does it discourage dedication? What do you think? Let us know!
They encourage innovation when they take down OP decks
Daniel Morales
i think it forces many to stay 'safe' when choosing a deck rather than playing the best deck for fear of buying in and eating a ban for overperforming/overrepresentation.
Benjamin Martin
i mean we all know that spikes are just going to buy whatever they need to compete but i think it'll drive normies away or force them into medium decks like tron and gx company.
Jayden King
BAN
Levi Hall
I hate this card but I would never want to see it banned. The only thing I want are unbans.
Levi Thomas
what would you want to see unbanned?
i could go for bbe, pod, twin, glimpse, gsz or sfm. jace, too. that one's just for the price spike though. DRS can fuckin stay banned as well. fuck that card.
Eli Fisher
Twin and/or SFM The others I think should stay banned.
Andrew Mitchell
>WoTC bans twin because it was "overrepresented" in tournament play >Top8 shows that at it highest Twin had 11 % playrate >Meanwhile the clown fiesta that's DRS and Tron
Robert Hall
Reminder that the MUH GSZ LETS YOU RAMP TURN 1 argument is fucking retarded considering Birds of Paradise exists already.
Brandon Evans
Maybe now they are too afraid to actually ban shit. Or they just don't know what their doing.
Cooper James
>Or they just don't know what their doing. Name every card that's been unbanned in Modern without checking. Bet you can't.
Asher Ramirez
>Name every card that's been unbanned in Modern without checking. Bet you can't. Oh come on I just started playing I didn't knew there was going to be a pop quiz!
Well when you missed out a couple of cards my point was going to be that most of the shit they've unbanned has done nothing to Modern, showing that they've been completely wrong about how powerful cards really are. Stoneforge Mystic is a perfect example because of just how little the card would actually do in Modern. When you look at a card, ask yourself what it would do in the face of a T4 Scapeshift or a T4 Burn kill on the play.
Yes, but nobody has ever once considered Birds anywhere near banworthy, and that extra G you're paying for your creature is a big deal. Remember, Pod was only banned because if your combo didn't work out you could just grind people out by spamming Finks into standard's latest and greatest pushed midrange creature, Meme Rhino. Meanwhile Green Sun can't repeatedly spit out value or combo off, and you're playing behind curve to do it.
Bitterblossom, Wild Nacatl, Sword of the Meek. Remember these absolute Modern crushing staple cards?
Adrian Martinez
>Bitterblossom, Wild Nacatl, Sword of the Meek. Remember these absolute Modern crushing staple cards? holy shit i forgot those were even banned
Jose White
>playing against infect >turn two, I have one tapped swamp and nothing else >he swings before playing might of old Krosa How retarded are infect players?
James Smith
You have to be pretty retarded to still play infect after Push.
Jason Howard
>he followed it by Apostle's Blessing to try to save his shit from Smallpox
Camden Mitchell
I believe it would be interesting to create a rule where all planes walkers are restricted to only 1 of each per deck so a deck could play a liliana of the veil and liliana vess but not multiples of each.
This would be interesting for a number of reasons.
It would be more story like in that you dont have to kill liliana of the veil 4 times only once just as it would have to be done in the lore (we are after all planeswalkers)
this would fix many decks power level like tron and abzan and make it so bans wouldnt necessarily be needed.
would allow for a jace the mind sculptor unban.
More interesting play in that you dont throw planeswalkers around and you actually have to think and protect your walker.
idk what do you guys think?
Angel Evans
I think you should go back to where you came from.
Justin Hughes
>mfw i have vial on 3 and two mana open >double block ichorclaw myr >no blocks on elf >become immense on elf >tap vial >blossoming defense on elf >play flickerwisp >trigger target myr >trigger resolves >bd resolves >become immense resolves >cast blessed alliance target opponent sacs a creature they really are retarded
Oliver Gomez
your mums anus?
Jace Hall
Forgot to mention that he sacrificed Nexus instead of Pendlehaven to the Smallpox. I don't play Infect so I'm not 100% sure, but that seems pretty stupid.
Carter Turner
I would be sad, since that would kill my skred deck
Charles Long
No, that other site, where underage retards like you are allowed.
Jeremiah Green
how about instead of being a cuck you give a good reason as to why its a bad idea? or are you too busy guzzling your grand papis cum?
Thomas Hernandez
This site is 18+. Please leave.
Easton Perez
It's complicated and restricting a whole card type is unprecedented, plus I don't think it's a good way to fix Modern. Plus Wizards will never do something that ruins their pushed planeswalkers. But they should, planeswalkers are lame
Matthew Anderson
theres our answer boys just as i suspected.. too busy guzzling his grand papis cum.. its a shame really..
Nathaniel Morris
I agree. I dont really like planeswalkers though they have their place and have some utility and can be fair over all they are usually lame more often than not.
Joseph Ross
That sounds absolutely terrible.
Blake Wood
>sheath is curved >sword is straight What gives?
Luke Rogers
...
Carter Bailey
Why are scalding tarns so fucking expensive?
Jonathan Martin
Best two colors Actually I don't know
Austin Rogers
Birds no, but people have talked about Hierarch ban.
Austin Morales
>Why are scalding tarns so fucking expensive? price memory and hoarding. ktk fetches will hit $40 this year, cheapest zen will be 60.
Lucas Richardson
>ktk feaches will hit $40 thats a bunch of deep fried horseshit
Brayden White
Because Blue. It's the most played color in Legacy and Commander (and Vintage I guess, but paper Vintage barely matters) and blue fetches are always in high demand because of it.
Anthony Sanders
>ktk fetches won't spike to 40 this year where exactly do you think you are
and discard a card with cycling for example Street Wraith, does cycling trigger and i can draw a card, or do i have to pay the discard cost to trigger cycling?
Brandon Ross
have to pay the cost
Aiden Baker
i guess it is a question of why would they spike then.
Levi Perry
are there really people who are autistic enough to buy out a shitload of cardboard? why doesn't wotc just print more? god i fucking hate this game so much i want the golden age to end.
Kayden Hall
Cycling is an activated ability. To Cycle, you must : Effect. Discarding a card with Cycling to another effect does not interact in any way.
Kevin Mitchell
thanks so as Collective Brutality resolves, and as long as i pay 2 health, i can trigger the Street Wraith's cycling and draw a card?
Jackson Bell
oh ok thank you ignore
Jaxson Reyes
no, discarding is part of the cost. You can't draw a card at all if you discard it to brutality
Hudson Murphy
they'll spike because you NEED them to play competitive lists and groups have been low-key buying them with no intent to resell in any appreciable quantity. this fact coupled with the hot mess that was ktk standard being something wotc does not want to repeat virtually guarantees they'll never see another mass reprint. doubly so for zen fetches. the only way you're seeing any of them again in any amount is a master's set.
Carson Green
If you want cards that interact well with discard outlets, Madness is the way to go. I like to think there's a good Modern Madness deck out there, but maybe I'm just dreaming.
Hunter Ward
whatever ktk's problems were, i seriously doubt it was due to fetches. fuck off. good dual lands are loved by literally everyone.
Landon Campbell
Nah it's really just the hollow one deck. SoI had no good madness cards in it because wizards treated discarding the card and still casting it as the reward, rather than getting to cast a better version of the discarded card pic related
Anthony Scott
>ktk standard being shit im pretty shure it was shit due to seige rhino, fuck off
Adrian Diaz
i'm only relaying the official stance of the company to you. i don't have a hand in it. i'm not a policy-maker. defending jeskai black and four-color-rhino-rally is an intredasting position though. care to explain? i was an atarka red man, myself.
Luke Clark
Hey i was looking for some help with building a suicide deck, the end of which includes
Entire the infinite (to draw entire deck) Perilous Vault (to destroy all non land permimants / though id prefer another modern legal card to destroy ALL permanents) Tolmods Crypt and One with Nothing to clear the entire board
Problem is im not too sure the best way to ramp up the mana for this... especially if I have to use a card to destroy permanents and another to destroy all lands
any help would be much appreciated
Levi Rivera
worldfire is a card
Henry Brown
Yeah, everytime I hear the words magic and investment together I feel the urge to slit my wrists.
Matthew Rivera
People do buyouts all the time. Dump like $50,000 into cardboard in one go. Sad part is they actually make money so they keep doing it.
Isaiah Ortiz
Roughly what time is the banlist announced?
Gavin Cox
Fetches are not expensive enough. This is what's killing Magic ;_;
Owen Miller
8-10 hours from now roughly
Xavier Wilson
But for example you could cycle the card because it goes on the stack on top of Collective Brutality and discard a different card, right?
Aaron Lewis
No, you discard as part of casting the spell. Once Collective Brutality is on the stack the chosen cards are already discarded
Anthony Perez
Why doesn't stupid Wizards print rules booklets anymore? I had one but some piece of shit stole it.
How the fuck are people supposed to learn the rules nowadays?
I'm not gonna print that shit. I want a nice booklet I can carry with me. They should put booklets in starter packs or fat packs.
Brayden Long
rate my custom card?
might make more.
Logan Campbell
ShouldGoInTheCustomCardThread/10. Also too powerful and not remotely white.
Easton Richardson
where is that thread?
Grayson Rivera
It's got the same OP image every single time, it's easy to find.
Evan Thompson
Blood Moon banning when?
Cameron Murphy
Just play mono colored decks.
Jacob Watson
Just because you outplayed your opponent does not mean that your opponent is retarded, user.
Aaron Scott
What's your favorite flavor of D&T?
Joshua Harris
Never. Something from Tron banned when?
Jeremiah Rogers
E&T. The fun part of the deck was never the boring taxing, but the flickering spam. I just wish Seer wasn't so pushed of a card because it's not as interesting as Displacer, Sculler or Strangler's interactions.
Alexander Howard
Mono W, I just love my restoration angels. I can build E&T, but I like the flavor of mono W more.
Jace Green
Azusa best wifu she moves the land beneath my feet. I am smitten
Daniel Rivera
>believing anything MaRo says The problem wasn't printing fetches in standard. It was printing fetches back-to-back with Battle for Zendikar's fetchable two-color lands, coupled with power-pushed cards like Siege Rhino that led to a god awful 4colorgoodstuff meta.
Alexander Garcia
>I'm not gonna print that shit This is why local game stores have judges; walking rule encyclopedias. The rules you are asking for are advanced rules that does not belong in a new beginners entry pack. The rules are accessible in the PDF document the other user linked you. If you can't be bothered to learn the rules yourself, you can ask judges live at chat.magicjudges.org/mtgrules/
Ethan Garcia
I don't trust people, I trust books.
Jace Howard
>What I'm playing tomorrow night at my LGS Can't wait to be an ape.
Hunter Kelly
You have 10 seconds to explain why you are NOT hyped for Dominaria, aka the greatest set of this decade
>Richard Garfield PHD confirmed to be working on it >gentle reminder that his last two sets were Ravnica and Innistrad, no big deal >rumors that R&D is pushing for an old-school aesthetic >almost all artwork will be hand-painted or drawn; no more digital bullshit >many MTG artists from the 90’s contracted to work on this set >power will be focused on Sorceries and Instants, just like in the old days >masterpiece series will have old-school borders, focusing on foil reprints of alpha cards >Wizards finalizing contract for new printing facility; no need to worry about card stock or printing quality failures like in Amonkhet and Ixalan >essentially confirmed Serra Angel, Lightning Bolt, and a heap of all your old favorites back in standard >heavily rumored to have fetch lands and Tarmagoyf back in standard >playtesters leaking that this is the best draft environment since Innistrad >multiple draft archetypes for each color, all while remaining balanced and refreshing >no more Gatewatch bullshit, Karn and Urza confirmed to be back >epic storyline already penned that will errata the entire Gatewatch failure and focus from here on out on the stories of each individual plane >full art foil lands by Anthony S. Waters in every pack almost confirmed >god packs containing all foils pretty much confirmed >expected value on this set is through the roof, spoilers not even out yet and financial experts are predicting each box to be worth ~$180 out of the gate
Seriously, if you haven’t preordered at least a dozen boxes of Dominaria, you are making a fool of yourself. Enjoy literally losing money.
Hudson White
wtf is your problem
Kevin Martin
Should have a cmc of at least 4, should also be legendary, and should be red.
Gavin Wilson
glimpse of N
not asian
Robert Garcia
I don't have a problem
Chase Adams
can't wait to turn my G/B tron into karn tribal.
Tyler Moore
>Urza confirmed I wanted to believe the rest, but this is never happening
Juan Walker
>no more Gatewatch bullshit Maro literally said this is still focusing on the Gatewatch.
Wyatt Miller
lol wtf i doubt RG would come back to previous cards, he likes novelty. He's probably impatient to see the next set of Theros and is stimulating R&D before it.
Jaxson Allen
Source?
Leo Ortiz
I really hate this art. I spent a whole year thinking Thalia was facing away from the camera because her face is next to nonexistant until I looked closer one day thinking her pose looked weird.
I really don't get the logic here considering the darks in the rest of the picture are well defined, like on her clothes. Why is her face so fucking washed out?
Imagine how shitty a foil of this would look with the extra-washed out foiling process
Eli Gomez
there is already a card called Sworn Defender
say something nice about her
John Ward
>foreign cards that people can't read >net-deck tier shit
