Remember folks - Blue can counter your shit all day long but the second you do it back you're not a real deck.
Logan Butler
What's the dumbest winmoar overkill situation you can think of? I'll start with natural ordering out Craterhoof, soul bonding with Deadeye Navigator, and blinking it for as many times as you can, so your creatures get pumped each time you blink it. Preferably from something like soul bonding a hornet queen and blinking that for a few turns.
Nolan White
The best part about this is that REB is "tiered." It's a 1 mana hard counter/destruction to the most powerful color in the format. Infinite combos are needed to prevent games from dragging out. As long as all of the pieces make sense in your deck to accomplish other goals then it's fine, but the purpose of your deck being to assemble your 2 card infinite isn't casual.
Parker Campbell
OK, stupid question, I'm working on building a Simic deck and I've heard all the memeing that UG support spells are cancer, but I've never actually built UGx before, so if folks would kindly spare me comparing and contrasting the dreck on EDHred and suggest UG staples (Both what you need to make decks go and what should be avoided below maximum degeneracy), I'd appreciate it.
Thomas Green
If its not one of those turn one or two combos im completely fine with it, if a deck has a way to combo out halfway through the game and no one at the table can stop it, its their own fault for not protecting themselves or expecting stuff like it Games have to end sometimes anyway and the person built that into their deck, who are we to prevent them from playing cards they like/find cool
Nicholas Powell
Guys I want to have one deck that's try hard shit because one guy in our group has a try hard deck and whenever he's there he wins every game because we're not try hard folks, but I don't want to gay up my cool decks so I want to build a new one. I was thinking Silas Renn with Kydele could be cool, eggs + card draw & counters + infinite mana through Kydele or other means to either mill him or lab man myself or exsanguinate etc.
Kydele+Tymna would likely be better, as Tymna provides consistent card draw and another color.
Dominic Sanders
>forgetting Mystic Snake If I have to deal with that piece of shit getting recurred one more time I'm gonna fucking shit blood.

>How do you HONESTY feel about infinite combos in a casual format? They're a viable strategy, but I feel like it's legitimate to ask the table to not use them. EDH started as a 'house rules' format, and even the banlist was like 'go ahead if no one complains'. I don't like using them unless I know at least one other person has them.
Normally when I Tooth and Nail, I'll grab Palinchron and Eternal Witness, which will grab back Tooth and Nail. Second T&N grabs Deadeye and Riku of Two Reflections. Make infinite mana, infinite Palinchron tokens, have infinite recursion(third T&N normally grabs Woodfall Primus and Phyrexian Ingester, destroys all their stuff).
Brody Brooks
>How do you HONESTY feel about infinite combos in a casual format? Totally legit, but the jankier the better. EDH is about doing weird, cool things and a lot of infinites fit that (though some don't), while a lot of NON infinite tryhard wins don't (though some do).
Ayden Foster
you need to post your commander first
this. you eventually need something to invest your resources in once the game has gone on long enough.

But Tymna requires I hit multiple people per turn for maximum efficiency and I don't plan on having that many creatures to do that
Jaxson Lewis
If you hit even one guy she's phyrexian arena which is a fine magic card. She gets nuts if you can hit 2 guys. Forget hitting 3 or more.

user could you post your Varolz deck? I currently run Meren as my Golgari commander but frankly I just dont find her super fun, just BG goodstuff. Shes also very expensive to upgrade because of this. Your Varolz seems much more interesting at least.
Thomas James
I love janky combos, but I'm cool with non-janky combos too. My issue is with people who turbo into the same couple combos every game. Basically cEDH autism. cEDH decks are pretty shit in more casual groups anyway. They really only function against either super casuals and Timmies (where interaction is lacking) or against other cEDH decks where no one is putting on constant pressure.

I honestly hate infinite combos because most people have that as their game plan and they will solely pursue it to win every game. Oh wow you Isocroned Dramatic Reversal with Paradox Engine so you can ETI and labman. Oh wow you did it for the millionth fucking time. So many infinite combos I see are the same old boring shit, like abusing Inalla. And thats all they ever fucking pursue.
I run Neheb. I also run Aggravated Assault. Yes it's an infinite, but Ive reached the point where I told myself: "Man its really fucking boring to just go "I go infinite and win". So I only ever use it as a "Oh shit" button and I wish more people used infinites this way. OR at least make your infinite really stupid and janky and shit so we can all have a good laugh or all go fucking nuts when you pull it off on that off chance. That Im fine with that.
Brandon Morris
I understand what you mean, and I even agree in a way, but the problem with having them as "oh shit" buttons is that not using them when you can is like gimping yourself unnecessarily. You're making strictly worse plays which isn't good for you as a player. That's why I removed most of the tutors from my decks. I'd rather stumble into my handful of combos than be able to grab them when I want. If I can grab them whenever, but don't, it's like you're taking pity on the people you play against.
Parker Wright
>Hurr durr tier decks There's no such thing, 1v1 is open season right now. People need to stop looking at goldfish for metagaming because WotC has been doctoring results since last summer.
Dominic Clark
>Thread Question I don't mind if someone is doing an infinite combo that takes a decent amount of preparation to do so. (ex. Necrotic Ooze, Phyrexian Devourer, Triskelion, Mimeoplasm combo) Or is using a deck that takes a decent amount of skill to navigate. (ex. Doomsday Zur) I have problems with people who just use the same infinite combo literally every game. Even in cases where they should have lost because of their board state, they just insta-win because they tutor one, maybe two cards. Sure sometimes its on us when nobody is playing blue and had no spot removal at hand, but it really grinds my gears.
Carson Carter
>using goldfish >ever >ends up building decks that are irrelevant to local meta that's where people are going wrong

I wanna make a discard/rack focused deck, who do you guys think would be the best commander for that? As far as colors I’m thinking either Grixis or rakdos. Front runner right now is Gwendlyn, but she seems kinda underwhelming. Maybe if I could include a bunch of “untap target creature” type effects.
Jaxon Gutierrez
Good list. The only thing that really surprises me is Baral yet I doubt I'd have gotten several others off the top of my head
And here I thought the point of UG was to not have to care. After all, if it's all the same cancer, there should be a fairly broad universal package. It's Kumena. That bastard with Merrow Commerce/Awakening/Intruder Alarm is my kind of greedy
Juan Williams
Nath. Gwen is a fairly distant second. She's still viable but if you just want to rack people to hell, Nath is your man.

> You're making strictly worse plays which isn't good for you as a player I dont wholly agree with this simply because Im the kind of guy that'd have an interesting game and lose than just drop Aggravated Assault and just go "I win." Maybe it's because I have so many other wincons in my deck I frankly just dont care about AA. Thats what I mean when I say I hate people who build their decks SOLELY around doing an infinite, specifically when people just cram their decks full of tutors to whip them out as soon as possible. Also kinda dumb when you gimp these kind of players through wheel or discard and they get all uppity that "they cant win anymore."
Jacob Gonzalez

Charles Wright
This is why I love playing Mana Tithe.

This, since the tutors got banned and Edgar, Nazan, Inalla and Kess became legal the format has been total war. But "competitive practice" faggots still claim you can't play anything TymnaKraum or ThrasiosKraum because it's the deck with most wins according to Goldfish.
Anyone know any places that print out good fake cards? Like chinaman proxies but with altered art or whatever?

Just out of curiosity, how many playmats do you guys have? >Avacyn (SoI) >Basandra >Force of Will mats x2 (Athena, Ancient Nights prerelease, both likely to never see the light of day ever) >Godless Shrine >Jin-Gitaxias >Lili Gameday mat >Sacred Foundry >Unstable Swamp on preorder >waiting on confirmation for a Cynthia pokemon mat I'm not even trying to collect them, I just know that nobody ever reprints anything and there might be a time later down when I want to have it. After missing the first Avacyn I declared never again.
Alexander Robinson
Thanks for the listing. Do any creatures come off the top of your head for siphoning life? I know Kalistria Highborn is one, but was wondering if any other people had stuff like that.
You could use makeplayingcard, the reddit bootleg place has a post or two on printing with that site.
I have 2. One is of a worgen druid from the WoW TCG because I play one ingame and I talked the ebay seller down to like 6 dollars shipped which was great for my first playmat. Second is of "Avacyn" drawn by the artist RK Post, met him at a GP and got it signed.

>How do you HONESTY feel about infinite combos in a casual format?
Casual means nothing in regard to power level. You can play vintage singleton in a pub with beer and chips among friends while cracking jokes. You can play wurm tribal against grizzly bears and still be a friendless loser because you take the game too seriously.
So I have no problem with infinite combos in a casual format, so long as everyone is on the same page power level wise. Personally I find that the least casual players are often the ones who make the biggest stink about the spirit of the format. Just look at sheldon.
Xavier Murphy
Good taste

If that's someone's name then I am not the one you seek.
Ryan Lee
Infinite combos are fine if everyone understands they can and will be played. If there are new players in the game and everyone else is trying to win before the new player can cast their new Huatli, that's where the line gets drawn.
Then again, I just play UW control so I let people play forever and never have a chance. So maybe I'm the bad guy.
Cameron Phillips
>How do you HONESTY feel about infinite combos in a casual format? Making a deck where the entire deck is built around one or two infinite combos (or instant-win) combos and runs every single tutor in order to play that same combo every game is really boring and that sort of cedh reddit shit makes me cringe.
Running a few infinite combos that aren't the backbone of a deck and aren't tutored out every single game are OK. Sometimes games of EDH go long or stall out, so if someone pulls a Fiend Hunter/Sun Titan/Goblin Bobardment combo out of their ass on the 15th turn or something, I'm totally satisfied in ending the game in that way.
tl;dr: infinite combos are OK in moderation

>How do you HONESTY feel about infinite combos in a casual format? We have some of the most obnoxious tryhard netdecking schoolkids who also constantly flick their cards during play and never engage in banter, so I would naturally be annoyed if they did it.
Also we have the johnniest person in our group who always brews everything himself even if people say it's shit and would never work (it does). For some reason he'd grown attached to infinite combos and breaking shit in EDH and wouldn't take them out even if people gang up on him. He always plays one deck he constantly tweaks which is in no way stax, but is infuriatingly uninteractive (no matter what you break, it either gets protected, reccured or replaced so the ride never ends). On the other hand this guy is the other person beside me interested in promoting the format and the game in general, always chill and great to hang around with.
As for me, when I'm playing infinites sometimes its fun and sometimes it isn't, but it's never as unfun as when you are busting your ass storming out and people start scooping before you are done.
Any sudden victory with no buildup (Expropriate, Craterhoof, Mass Mutiny etc.) feels just as bad as infinites to me, so I guess there is no evading that.
Benjamin Wilson
how do i break this guy izzet colors? lightning greaves?
